9.0 from IGN. They said it's more an action game then survival horror. Nothing to make you creep around a corner and be scared like past RE games.

Kalyx triaD 03-07-2009 04:35 AM

Me and my bro played some co-op and there will be some moments where you'll wonder where the Hell your partner is. I don't I've ever demanded ammunition so feverishly. And work together you must, the demo is a sign of things to come.

If I'm not mistaken, Sheva has a Flashkick as one of her melee attacks.

D Mac 03-07-2009 04:39 AM

So no lone wolves in this one huh.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-07-2009 11:37 AM

I was beginning to enjoy it when one of the devils QTEs appeared in the middle of a cutscene :(

UmbrellaCorporation 03-07-2009 12:24 PM

I am not so sure the racial issue with this game will be put to rest.

There are Majini with spears and warpaint later on in the game. I'm almost guaranteeing someone will bitch.

thought this was pretty lulz

Avon teams with Resident Evil's Umbrella Corp. for face cream?

OK, so this is a joke, right?

Avon isn't serious with the design of its Derma-full face cream, an exact replica of Resident Evil Apocalypse's T-virus. We were astounded recently when we caught the commercial for Avon's product on television, a "skin care breakthrough," delivering "fullness perfected, not injected" for aging skin.

The beauty in all of this is not only does Avon's bottle look like that of the T-virus, but, in the film, the Umbrella Corporation's Regenerate product was also originally intended as a similar skin-rejuvenation cream. We're thinking some young marketing guy at Avon got a big laugh when he got this passed. Enjoy comparing both commercials after the break.

Yeah I saw the video of this. Are all the enemys (Besides Wesker of course.) in the game black?

UmbrellaCorporation 03-07-2009 03:19 PM

There is an occasional person of another racial heritage thrown it. White person here, hispanic here, etc, etc., but the majority of the enemies are Africans.

Not counting Irving or the aforementioned, 99% of the enemies in this game are black.

It's funny to me though. When it was mostly Europeans and Spanish people, no one cared. I just wish people could understand that the enemies aren't exactly people, but more along the lines of zombie or infected. But I guess people will find a reason to cry over anything.

You can, but I imagine certain situations will be left up to AI when it really seems like a person should be there.

Extreme Angle 03-09-2009 06:38 AM

I've downloaded it, but just given my xbox to my mate to update to 1.51

#BROKEN Hasney 03-09-2009 06:56 AM

Yup, the partner AI is broken, QTEs are far too frequent, but the story is gripping. Finished it and I would say 7/10

RoXer 03-09-2009 11:18 AM

Your mom is hot.

Yeah!

G 03-09-2009 08:49 PM

Ugh, I have a feeling I'm going to play this. I love the first 4 so much, and do not want to miss out on the next chapter. I'm doing it for the story, not the shitty gameplay.

UmbrellaCorporation 03-09-2009 09:00 PM

Apparently regardless of what anyone's opinion is on the gameplay, the story is supposedly quite good.

So hopefully you won't be disappointed on that front.

I sent that right after Kalyx's reply.

Weird.

Kalyx triaD 03-10-2009 05:02 AM

Yeah.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-10-2009 05:53 AM

Also, the cover system is bullshit.

Just because virtually all other games have it doesn't mean you should do a half-assed attempt to fit in, Capcom.

Kalyx triaD 03-10-2009 05:56 AM

There's a cover system?

#BROKEN Hasney 03-10-2009 07:09 AM

SPOILER: show
Yeah, I think there are like two places prior to chapter 5 you can cover, and it's not bad. Then they overload you with cover points everywhere that you have to use to survive.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-10-2009 08:59 AM

Just watched someone play this through via youtube. Am glad I won't be paying for it. I'm not sure there's an original idea in the game. Cover system wasn't the only thing they took from Gears, let's say.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-10-2009 09:21 AM

That's true.

But coming out of cover for invetory management is crap. You have to briefly come out of cover to reload FFS

According to some sites, Resi is going to get a DLC that allows for online multiplayer

It's not exactly clear what these modes entail, but they appear to be competitive modes. "Team Survivors" gives us hope that Capcom is working on a co-operative mode inspired by Left 4 Dead.

Impeccable 03-11-2009 11:33 AM

Can't see them implmenting DLC for the Ps3 version without the 360.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-11-2009 12:21 PM

In it's current state, online multiplayer has issues. The netcode is fantastic. I was playing on a Japanese guys game with a rating of one bar speed wise and there wasn't a second of lag. So if you're playing with a friend who is at the same point in the game with you, it could be fun.

In an open game, that's where it seems a bit iffy. I'll regale you with a tale of my experience.

So I started it up at about the 3/4 of the way through the game mark. Someone attempted to join the game and it said it would let them join at the next checkpoint. So far so good. The game goes to the inventory screen and here's where the problem starts. This guy cannot borrow my equipment on this screen and it turns out he's not started the game yet, he's just jumped straight into multi-player. So this guy is starting the last stretch of the game with me and he has just a pistol....

Fine, maybe I can give him something once we're in the game for reals. Turns out I can! So I give him a fully upgraded unlimited ammo machine gun. We play for a bit and the guy just runs around doing his own thing and dies about twice, so I elect not to continue and the game ends. I HAVE LOST MY FUCKING MACHINE GUN FOR GOOD. That's his now and doesn't appear on my inventory at all.

At no point did I have the option to not let this guy join, or to kick him from the game, or even to quit. If you're set for an open XBox Live game, anyone can join, no questions asked and there is fuck all you can do about it.

With the Japanese guy, it was fine as he'd finished the game himself so the game was fun. The only niggle with that game I had was if someone died, only the host could choose to continue or not. You cannot leave the game without returning to the dashboard until someone dies and the host says no to continue. UGH.

Capcom really need to sort out proper Multi-Player lobbies and options, it's the same few probs as SF4 in places....

Kalyx triaD 03-11-2009 03:00 PM

Yuck. Probably be playing offline with my bro most of the time.

Pegasus Crawford 03-12-2009 04:41 AM

Ouch, that's a crappy experience there. Guess I should stick with playing wit people I actually know.

Resident Evil 5 'Versus' DLC confirmed, cheaper on PS3

by David Hinkle { 13 minutes ago } http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...reaking001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...001xbox001.png http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.jo...station001.png
We spotted it and now it's reality: Capcom will be adding several new online multiplayer modes to Resident Evil 5, for a price. The "Versus" pack will allow up to four players to compete across two different game types, including Slayer's Rule, a "point-based game that challenges players to kill Majinis," and Survivor's Rule, which focuses on player-vs-player combat, with the last person standing claiming victory. Each game mode will support one-on-one, or two-vs-two play.

Capcom says Versus mode will be available "a few weeks" after the game's release and will cost 400http://www.blogcdn.com/www.xbox360fa...slogosmall.gif and $3.99 on Xbox Live and PSN, respectively.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-12-2009 05:31 PM

The PSN price was a mistake, it will be 4.99

Kalyx triaD 03-12-2009 07:31 PM

Wow. RE Survivor redux in the works?

jcmoorehead 03-12-2009 08:09 PM

Definately more of an action game then horror so far but at the same time it's so fucking good I really don't care. Just got up to Chapter 2-2 and I really am enjoying it so far, the AI isn't as retarded as I thought it was going to be and the levels are set out really nicely.

G 03-13-2009 12:30 AM

Are there any scary parts in the game? Going by the demo, it is more of a survivor and no horror to it.

G 03-13-2009 12:41 AM

Kinda bummed I can't go to the midnight release to pick up my Elite. :(

Best review I've read but I don't agree with the Chris Redfield bit (I like him) or the cover bit (the cover system is bullshit)

D Mac 03-13-2009 06:36 PM

Rented it for the PS3. I like it. Hope they tell us what happened to Jill. Took me a while to figure out how to beat that "Oil Monster" or whatever it was in chapter 1-2, but I did.

stone cold 03-14-2009 05:38 PM

It's a real good game, i'm on level 3-2.

G 03-14-2009 05:50 PM

I heard there was a Jill zombie or something.

I wouldn't know... yet. Thanks for that though.

D Mac 03-15-2009 05:38 PM

Stuck on the Chainsaw guy.

.44 Magdalene 03-15-2009 05:57 PM

Beat it a couple days ago. Loved it.

Just wanted to toss that out there.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-15-2009 06:19 PM

The VS DLC will be less than half the price in Japan than it is for the rest of the world.

Utter bullshit.

.44 Magdalene 03-15-2009 06:54 PM

It's always bullshit when it comes to Japan and videogames

stone cold 03-17-2009 12:57 PM

Beat it yesterday, it's a really good game. Wesker is toughest by far in the game i died like 12 times trying to beat him.

Requiem 03-17-2009 01:25 PM

Ridiculously challenging game on the harder difficulties. Couple buddies beat it on normal on coop. They beat it without using the guide, and now they've got a guide and are going through and getting everything. There are so many things.. it's ridiculous. Hard as fuck game too.

#BROKEN Hasney 03-17-2009 01:36 PM

What? I walked through veteran like a piece of piss. Professional is one hit kill on everything virtually, though.

Requiem 03-17-2009 01:57 PM

The final mercenary bit was insane trying to get 88000 (or some 80k number) points. The next tier to get the highest is 150000 points.

Destor 03-17-2009 07:05 PM

Yeah Proffesional is actually challenging. Vetreran was pretty easy. And the Mercenary is pretty rough, but a blast. Just started it. Co-Op is the only way to play this btw.

Destor 03-17-2009 07:05 PM

Loved the game, truely, but 4 was better. Just throwing that out there.

I wish they had incorperated a little of RE Zero stuff as far as the two charecters thing goes though.

D Mac 03-18-2009 12:48 AM

This is probably another game I will give up on and never beat.

Kane86 03-22-2009 06:37 PM

This game is fucking awesome plain and simple as that. IF you disagree with me I will kick you in the balls adn if your a girl (like FourFifty). I will kick you in the vagina.

Kane86 03-30-2009 01:02 PM

I have beat Amatuer and Soldier on it so far going for the triple crown now by beating it on Veteran..

G 03-30-2009 01:04 PM

I still have it unopened. Probably going on eBay this week.

Requiem 03-30-2009 02:29 PM

Only like 3 levels to beat to unlock professional. Game is INTENSE.

Kane86 03-30-2009 02:32 PM

Professional is one hit and you get killed....

Requiem 03-30-2009 02:36 PM

so

Destor 03-30-2009 02:37 PM

Pro is the goods. Really makes the game fun.

Kane86 03-30-2009 02:40 PM

I have not got it yet but I would like to try it at least once....

Kalyx triaD 04-06-2009 12:10 PM

Versus Pack goes up in 24hrs.

#BROKEN Hasney 04-06-2009 12:19 PM

Not worth the points.

February 9, 2010 - The mystery surrounding those two final Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition Mercenaries Reunion characters has been solved courtesy of Japan's Weekly Famitsu magazine. In its latest issue, the magazine reports that Rebecca Chambers and Barry Burton will make it into the revamped Mercenaries mode as new playable characters.

This is the last bit of information before Gold Edition hits the Japanese PS3 next week under the name Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition. Worldwide, the game is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360. All the content, including the Mercenaries Reunion characters, will be made available to current RE5 owners via paid downloads.

In addition to the new character reveal, Famitsu also printed the first review of Gold Edition. The magazine's four reviewers awarded the game a high 10, 9, 9 and 9 (each score is out of 10). The new Lost in Nightmares episode earned praise for its strong puzzle element which hakens back to the classic Resident Evil. While the new episodes are short, they have "random elements" and score attack opportunities.

Sounds like a worthy update both for new buyers who go with the disc version and for current owners who go for the downloads.

Kalyx triaD 02-09-2010 10:56 PM

Love to see their new models, wonder if they deviated from the GCN models (some of the best VG models ever, IMO).

DaBrasko 02-22-2010 03:14 PM

Lost in Nightmares let me down :(

Kalyx triaD 02-22-2010 10:45 PM

It has a ton of new characters for multiplayer, that would satisfy me. Don't expect much from the new mansion area.

D Mac 02-23-2010 01:01 AM

Traditional Zombies are back in it aren't they?

Kalyx triaD 02-23-2010 01:08 AM

I don't think so.

Makes your question kinda silly then. :p

I was pumped for there to be like a whole mansion and lab to explore.... instead there are like 10 rooms and a dungeon, no classic zombies :(
