Too bad Yale choked it away, would have been a good day in the state.

Love that UConn/Notre Dame is the leading story on ESPN.com. It's not like there are any rivalry games this weekend or anything...

Supreme Olajuwon 11-21-2009 07:08 PM

That's not my Ohio State homerism talking either. Cal/Stanford is actually relevant this year. Should be hyping it, but they're not because the game's not on ESPN.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-21-2009 07:11 PM

Also LOL at Fox Sports' website. Check this out...

I still cant get past how horrible Tate Forcier is. He went to the bench and cried after every turnover too. That guy deserves to be gang beaten by the whole Michigan team, Full Metal Jacket, rocks in socks style.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-24-2009 08:57 AM

lol Jimmy Clausen got sucker punched by an angry Notre Dame fan outside a restaurant

come on now, if you're going to be mad at Notre Dame sucking, Clausen is one of the last people you should blame it on

Brady Quinn talking about how "horrible" it would be for Notre Dame to fire Charlie Weis.

this coming from the QB of the 1-9 Cleveland Browns

Droford 11-27-2009 03:04 PM

Alabamas getting it handed to them early by Auburn, 14-0.

So, Alabama loses and then its Florida/Texas 1-2 in the BCS. What happens if Florida loses to Alabama in the SEC Title Game? Texas would be #1 as long as they win their Title game, but then you've got 1 loss Alabama probably wanting a piece of the action but Undefeated TCU and Cincy possibly. The BCS certainly doesnt want Alabama to lose this game..

Emperor Smeat 11-28-2009 02:30 AM

Its probably already set in stone for SEC champion vs Texas because of how all those different polls and data is done. BCS won't allow TCU to be a #1 or #2 in the current format unless its the post-BCS poll for symbolic purposes like Utah last year.

owenbrown 11-28-2009 01:41 PM

ah the giant clusterfuck that is the BCS

RoXer 11-28-2009 07:02 PM

I'm glad U of A won but I just wanna give Kyle Williams a big hug.

Poor guy. :-(

redoneja 11-28-2009 11:27 PM

Two midlevel SEC teams beat the ACC championship contenders today.

And Toby Gerhart proved he should be a Heisman finalist. What a game for him.

Emperor Smeat 11-30-2009 02:15 PM

New York Daily News is reporting Weis fired from Notre Dame but won't announce it until after players meeting to see if ND should accept the offer to play in a low-tier bowl.

Weis expected to go back to the NFL as an offense coordinator with 6 teams interested.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-30-2009 03:42 PM

If Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer wanted the job, this would be the ideal time to take it for both. Stoops is having a crappy year and Meyer is going to have a way different team next year with Tebow gone. Doubt either will take it. Probably going to go with Brian Kelly.

ClockShot 11-30-2009 04:50 PM

What took Notre Dame so long to fire him?

You'd think the game against Uconn would do it.

Some NFL team with a lousy offense will pick him up. That is his calling.

Emperor Smeat 11-30-2009 11:13 PM

I don't think Notre Dame has ever fired anyone before the season ended (not including a bowl since that's post-season). Even Willingham got the chance to end the season, then got fired before a bowl.

Notre Dame needs to do what Miami U did for coaching and just give the new coach 3-4 years of development with no questions asked or else same thing is going to occur that occurred with the last 3 coaches. It might have hurt Miami U's reputation as a power for those few years but they got back to being really good this year.

ESPN terribly shaped this story to fit a more dramatic angle. The local reports made it pretty clear that Clausen was not attacked by a rabid football fan, but ESPN never changed their report by one of their own reporters.

I've been getting these texts and e-mails all day from ESPN, and I'm not even an FSU fan. WTF?

Oregon hasn't seen anything like Ohio State's defense this season. Should be a good game.

Nervous Ferret 12-05-2009 01:47 AM

Yeah really pumped for Oregon/Ohio St. Oregon is such a fun team to like. I do think they will beat Ohio State but it should be a great game. I totally expect Clemson to fall behind 2+ scores before halftime tomorrow. Whether they come out in the second half fist pumping like champs or if Ga Tech will just run all over them again is up to Dabo though

Would love to go to a Clemson/Cincy Orange Bowl. Cincinnati is pretty dirty though, would def blow them out. Otherwise Clemson is looking at another Chik fil-a bowl, or the Champ Sports Bowl ugh

Skippord 12-05-2009 04:01 AM

I wanted CJ Spiller to win the Heisman so badly

Supreme Olajuwon 12-05-2009 10:22 AM

Feel kinda grimy rooting for Bama but this is what it's come to. I would cream myself if the Sugar Bowl winds up being Florida/TCU.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-05-2009 03:16 PM

This Cincy/Pitt game is incredible. Pitt up 31-10 at one point and now it's tied at 38. Come on UC

redoneja 12-05-2009 03:25 PM

Yea, the Cincy/Pitt game is on par with the Oregon/Oregon St game Thursday night. Two incredible championship games. I hope the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 games deliver as well. Really nervous about Florida beating Bama. Really hoping the Gators can pull it out. I'd like to see Nebraska beat Texas in the Big 12 game. Don't really care about the Clemson/GaTech game, I'm just glad Virginia Tech isn't in the ACC title game with a chance to play at the Rose Bowl.

redoneja 12-05-2009 03:27 PM

Holy fuck, Pitt scored a TD but botched the PAT. Only a 6 point game with 1:36 left. That's a lifetime in college, with the clock stopping each time the offense gets a 1st down.

Nervous Ferret 12-05-2009 03:28 PM

oh shit @ missed PAT :o

I can't help but feel like Cincy is going to pull this out

Evil Vito 12-05-2009 03:33 PM

Yeah, Cincy scoring was especially obvious after the PAT fuckup, stuff like that will ultimately be what costs you the game 9 times out of 10.

Crazy Cincy-Pitt game, looked like Pitt would end up winning and be another BCS buster like they did with West Virginia a few years ago but Cincy came back huge.

Florida's rockin the white lids. Nice

Emperor Smeat 12-05-2009 07:08 PM

ESPN News literally did almost a 5 minute highlight of Alabama-Florida game and the 4th Quarter just started when it finished.

Longest non-title game highlight they have done for a regular season game in any sport I believe.

LOL part was how depressed the highlight sounded because Tebow and Florida was struggling.

redoneja 12-05-2009 07:09 PM

Wow Florida's gonna lose. Not "crushed" as I kinda expected this. Plus I've been more invested in Oregon this year. So whatever.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-05-2009 07:17 PM

The obligatory 736 Tebow shots per quarter aren't nearly as irritating when his team is getting stomped.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-05-2009 07:42 PM

lolllllllllllllll Tebow can barely speak

Let's go Huskers.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-05-2009 07:58 PM

No one seems to have noticed that Texas has had a cakewalk of a schedule this year because the Big 12 is terrible. Texas has beaten 1 team that's currently ranked. The computers actually have Cincinnati ranked ahead of Texas in the BCS because Cincy's played a tougher schedule.

Emperor Smeat 12-05-2009 07:58 PM

Not completely surprised that Florida could lose since they have been struggling against average to decent teams this year with a lot of lucky wins compared to last year's team.

Droford 12-05-2009 10:08 PM

Texas Losing = BCS CAMERA 6 WORST CASE SCENARIO !

I could honestly see the BCS breaking down and ending up with a Alabama/Florida rematch that would absolutely suck

Emperor Smeat 12-05-2009 11:06 PM

Supposedly the way the teams are ranked and even though Cincy is rated higher than Texas in the computer polls, it wouldn't be that hard for the human polls or the weight of the Alabama quality win to boost Florida to #2. Realistically it won't happen but theoretically its possible since the human polls can still influence the title game.

Would suck badly since BCS tried as hard as possible to ensure no repeat games a few years ago when Michigan-OSU was near top of the polls and the game itself was good enough to be considered a possible repeat but the other conferences and voters complained.

Droford 12-05-2009 11:17 PM

Nebraska is about to pull off the upset..

McLegend 12-05-2009 11:24 PM

Emperor Smeat 12-05-2009 11:27 PM

Jesus Shuttlesworth 12-06-2009 01:41 AM

Ending of the Texas game was weak as hell. Horse collar tackle than the replay with 1 second left, FUCK THAT

Supreme Olajuwon 12-06-2009 07:13 PM

If TCU gets matched up with Penn State or Iowa, they might win by 40.

Emperor Smeat 12-06-2009 08:11 PM

Bowl busters TCU and Boise State set to face each other in Fiesta Bowl and not anyone from the Big 4 (Big 10, Big 12, Pac-10, SEC).

Rose Bowl: Oregon vs Ohio State
Fiesta Bowl: Boise State vs TCU
Sugar Bowl: Cincinnati vs Florida
Orange Bowl: Iowa vs Georgia Tech
BCS Title: Texas vs Alabama

Supreme Olajuwon 12-06-2009 08:21 PM

Even in the BCS Selection Show, they have to talk about fucking Notre Dame. Let's not talk about the kids who played their asses off to be the best in the country. No let's talk about shitty ass 6-6 Notre Dame

Emperor Smeat 12-06-2009 08:25 PM

Normally I'd say its because Notre Dame has its own "contract" with the BCS along with the big 6 conferences but yes I agree. If Notre Dame refused to play a bowl, then they don't deserve to be talked about on the show. Leave that to ESPN with their 24/7 coverage.

Evil Vito 12-06-2009 08:28 PM

Alabama vs. Texas sounds boring as hell. This was the BCS' chance to give a "non-traditional" team a chance in the big game and they went with the usual suspects. As good as TCU were this year I can't see them ever coming this close to the title game again.

Also feel terrible for Boise State. A consistently good program yet they can't get any of the "top schools" to agree to play them despite them waiving the right to have to play at Boise State.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 12-06-2009 10:09 PM

Wish they would flip Iowa & Boise.

Boise State vs TCU is retarded, they just played recently in a bowl game. Wanted to see something different

Supreme Olajuwon 12-06-2009 11:56 PM

Computers had UC in the title game, voters had them fourth. Gotta love the unbiased system.

Evil Vito 12-07-2009 12:16 AM

Pains me that the BCS isn't going to change anytime soon.

RP 12-07-2009 03:59 AM

Smooth how the BCS put TCU vs Boise St against eachother so they can avoid and future justification that one of them should get a National Championship bid. Instead of TCU beating someone like Florida and staking a claim that the system is unfair, they'll get to beat Boise St and prove nothing.

owenbrown 12-07-2009 04:20 AM

fuck the BCS

BCWWF 12-07-2009 01:26 PM

Mizzou gets passed over for a better bowl for the third straight year.

In 2007, Mizzou was 11-2 after losing to Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game. Then the Orange Bowl took 11-1 Kansas, who Mizzou had beaten TWO weeks earlier.

In 2008, Mizzou was the Big 12 North Champion and had beaten Nebraska head-to-head, but was passed over for the better bowl (at least this one is justifiable).

Now in 2009, Mizzou was 8-4, beat Iowa State in Week 10, but for whatever reason the Insight Bowl took 6-6 Iowa State instead. Now Mizzou is in the Texas Bowl.

On one hand, who cares? The money is the same (except travel expenses) and the Insight Bowl is a joke anyway, but it just goes to show that the system is flawed.

Ermaximus 12-07-2009 01:39 PM

BCS needs to just go away for good. Why can't they adopt a system like the NCAA basketball does? Start with the 64 best teams, work down to 32, to 16, etc. etc. But no, some fat, overpaid dipshit who is part of some booster club at said well known school gets to decide who goes where. FUCK THAT NOISE. I'm a big Gator fan, but I honestly will say that TCU deserves a title shot over Texas. Texas got lucky as shit against Nebraska. Whatever though, it's all a flawed system anyways. Roll Tide Roll. Bring the SEC another title I guess.

Loose Cannon 12-07-2009 02:43 PM

Clausen and Tate are both gone from the Irish. They will be entering the NFL Draft. Not surprising

It's likely to do with the fact that there is no room for an additional six college football games, and the fact that a 64-team playoff would entirely ruin the significance of a regular season.

Four teams, aka plus-one, might work, unless there are five teams. Eight teams is too arbitrary.

The most logical and fair playoff, in my opinion, would be to take the 11 major conference champions and then five wildcards, with seeds based on BCS rankings. I've done this before on TPWW, so might as well do it again:

1. Alabama (SEC)
2. Texas (Big 12)
3. Cincinnati (Big East)
4. TCU (Mountain West)
5. Florida (Wildcard 1)
6. Boise State (WAC)
7. Oregon (Pacific-10)
8. Ohio State (Big Ten)
9. Georgia Tech (ACC)
10. Iowa (Wildcard 2)
11. Virginia Tech (Wildcard 3)
12. LSU (Wildcard 4)
13. Penn State (Wildcard 5)
14. Houston (C-USA)
15. Central Michigan (MAC)
16. Troy (Sun Belt)

Under this system, the biggest snub of 2009 would be No. 14 Brigham Young.

This also gives some significance to the smaller conferences. As it stands, there is no reason why the Sun Belt, MAC, C-USA, or WAC should be considered Division 1-A. Mountain West is at a severe disadvantage as well.

I personally think it would be a lot more fair to give every conference one entry than to arbitrarily pick the top eight teams and continue to reward the rich.

But again, this is obviously inconceivable due to time limits, which is why I think the Plus-One format would be the best (while also putting some significance back to the BCS bowl-ties)

Ermaximus 12-07-2009 03:52 PM

I could work with that BCWWF.

I like that idea BCWWF.

Emperor Smeat 12-09-2009 11:06 PM

House branch of Congress passes NCAA Football Playoff bill out of the comittees and should be debated/voted on soon by the rest of the House and Congress. If it becomes a law, BCS could either be in trouble for breaking anti-Trust laws if Justice Department investigates or make it illegal to promote a national title game without a playoff.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4727426

BCWWF 12-10-2009 12:29 PM

That's stupid and ridiculous. There is no reason why a league has to have a playoff to determine the winner.

Emperor Smeat 12-10-2009 04:24 PM

I don't believe the bill would state you can't declare a champion without a playoff but you can't be promoting a championship when its based on votes and not merit or on the idea of every game is important.

The bigger issue is how much a mess the BCS is since before being undefeated guaranteed a spot and now its 1 spot given automatically to the SEC and then the other is split between the Big 10, Big 12, or USC. If they didn't keep changing how the title game occurs, they probably don't have to worry about Congress getting involved if it passes and it probably won't unless the Justice Department gets involved.

How can you blame Brian Kelly? Cincinnati is never going to have another season this good, and even if they do they will still be snubbed for a national title spot by a Big Ten, Big 12, SEC team or USC.

I'm sure he is also getting a substantial raise. And it's not like Notre Dame can't compete. I mean, 06 and 07 they were in a BCS bowl. Even this year they had one of the best offenses in the nation. It is complete bullshit when people claim Notre Dame can't get the top recruits anymore for academic reasons.

I think it's a dick move because he's bailing on his team before the Sugar Bowl. Leaving for Notre Dame is one thing, but leaving before your team plays in its Bowl game is crap.

It might not even be his fault...but if Notre Dame said "Accept the offer now or you're out of the running," then shame on them.

BCWWF 12-11-2009 03:19 PM

I haven't seen the details (are they public yet?), but these type of things seem like they are often 50/50. Sometimes the coach stays on to finish what he started, sometimes he leaves so as to not be a distraction.

Personally, I guess I can see how it might be awkward for Cincinnati to have Notre Dame's coach during the Sugar Bowl.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-11-2009 03:44 PM

He left now so he could recruit. Honestly the only reason I'm angry about this is because of the media. Stuff like this happens all the time. In fact, Kelly did this to Central Michigan when he went to Cincy. But that doesn't make it less shitty.
