Um, last year's series had almost 23 million viewers.
And the 2004 ALCS, had 31.5 million viewers 2008 drew lower numbers due to Tampa being in it. |
a goldberg return for a short run maybe against batista or orton would be cool.. but they bring back goldberg for HOF and a goldberg dvd would be the shit
|
the only fond memory i have of goldberg is the rock concert 2 where the rock brought out gillberg and made fun of goldberg for 20 minutes

Goldberg deserves the nod for the HOF. In terms of being brought back for a short program, or even limited schedule for another year, it's a crapshoot whether or not he would draw. The landscape has changed ten fold over Goldberg's 6 year absence. Many of the kid-heavy audiences may not give Goldberg the reception that he would've gotten some years back.

Hope he makes the next Smackdown vs Raw because I'm tired of creating him every year.
|
I'm trying not to imagine an older Goldberg wrestling with years of ring rust getting back into the ring. Having said that if he squashes people, it wouldn't take much effort, I guess.

Only hardcore, smark wrestling fans are going to go out of their way to find out factual information. Casual fans and marks are only going to know and believe what WWE presents to them. |

Like everything else, it's more niche oriented. In the old days, when there were like 5 channels on the television, more people were tuning into/paying attention to the same things. Nowadays, people can tune out of the world series to watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians or some shit. The same goes for movies, and television programs. There were less options, so everyone was into the same stuff more or less. Now the sports world is massive. There are entire channels dedicated not only to sports, but each sport. Since then, the major leagues of football, basketball and hockey have gotten on the map. Neither of the three were huge nationally like baseball was. Also, his figures are misleading. The trend graphs show growth for nascar, and decline for baseball, sure. It's irrelevant though. If you actually read the graphs and look at the viewers in millions you will see that they are scaled differently, and Nascar isn't exceeding the World Series by much, or at all, in all of those years presented. |
Also, there are some sports that will never catch on on the other side of their respective "pond". Cricket and baseball.

Goldberg Return?
Does anyone give a fuck about Goldberg still? I know I don't.
|
Glacier probably doesn't.
|
Yeah, I hear Glacier is cold on the idea.

At this stage in the game, I don't think he'd be anywhere near as over as he was when he left. Maybe in the Impact Zone where they'll pop for the hot dog vendor.
But a return to WWE wouldn't cause a big splash like it originally did. The crowd has turned over a bit. I think they could easily get him back over though, with the wonders of their promotion/video packages, and a push. I don't think it's that exciting either way though. I couldn't really care less. I think it would be kind of a waste since he's not that great and you'd have to put him over a lot of people to make it work. Anything more than 3-6 months of him would get stale quickly as well. |
