Um, last year's series had almost 23 million viewers.

And the 2004 ALCS, had 31.5 million viewers

2008 drew lower numbers due to Tampa being in it.

XIII 03-17-2010 05:27 PM

a goldberg return for a short run maybe against batista or orton would be cool.. but they bring back goldberg for HOF and a goldberg dvd would be the shit

SOCCER LEGS 03-17-2010 05:28 PM

the only fond memory i have of goldberg is the rock concert 2 where the rock brought out gillberg and made fun of goldberg for 20 minutes

Koko B. Ware is in, OK? Anybody can be in.

Koko B. Ware was a wrestler. That's why he was inducted to the Wrestling hall of fame. So Pete Rose was banned. The UFC should induct him into the hall of fame as a nice gesture. That balding fat fuck has no business in the WWE HOF.

Goldberg deserves the nod for the HOF. In terms of being brought back for a short program, or even limited schedule for another year, it's a crapshoot whether or not he would draw. The landscape has changed ten fold over Goldberg's 6 year absence. Many of the kid-heavy audiences may not give Goldberg the reception that he would've gotten some years back.

Yet Hart gets huge pops. For one, this is the lamest excuse that everybody uses. WWE went PG like a bunch of pussies, but their majority audience are not kids. And for two, give wrestling fans more credit. Many of us were too young to remember the first Wrestlemania, or Wrestlemania III with Andre vs Hogan. Some weren't even born. But we all know about historical events because once you become a fan of wrestling, you tend to research the history of wrestling. Besides it's 2010, they have this thing called "The Internet" and "youtube".

The thing is, a large percentage of WWE fans now a days are marks, not smarks.

D Mac 03-19-2010 06:04 AM

Hope he makes the next Smackdown vs Raw because I'm tired of creating him every year.

The Mackem 03-19-2010 06:57 AM

I'm trying not to imagine an older Goldberg wrestling with years of ring rust getting back into the ring. Having said that if he squashes people, it wouldn't take much effort, I guess.

Ok, so I have proved the falling popularity of baseball. But how does that prove that Nascar is more popular? Ah, lookie here. I found another picture.

http://tvbythenumbers.com/wp-content...09-590x411.gif

Now I myself don't watch either of these sports because I'm not a complete lame-ass or a redneck who took my cousin to prom. I just wanted to prove you wrong. Don't ever question me again.

ummm apparently you cant read pictures because if you look at the y-axis (the vertical part of the graphs) you will see that baseball's graph goes up to 45 million where as nascars goes up to 25 million with the only time baseball diped noticeably under nascar was 2008 because tampa bay was in the seiries.

you proved no one wrong. you proved that you are ignorant.

Reavant 03-19-2010 06:10 PM

and goldberg fucking rocks

Hart does not get huge pops. If anything, his pops equate to a warm reception. Have you bothered to watch or attend a live event over the last two years? Crowds are packed with nothing but kids. I went to Raw this past Monday and I was surrounded by kids. The prepubescent girls behind me thought Montreal was all staged and claim Bret's never been as good as Cena.

Only hardcore, smark wrestling fans are going to go out of their way to find out factual information. Casual fans and marks are only going to know and believe what WWE presents to them.

Quit saying smark and mark. It makes it seem like we're all a bunch of fucking wrestling forum nerds when these words are used. Seriously think about it.

Too easy. Even for you. I put out the cake and the fat kid ate it, though. Should not be surprised. This thread should be about making fun of stukkband, anyway.

Mr. Nerfect 03-22-2010 02:25 AM

And, I suppose, for discussing Goldberg's hypothetical return to the WWE.

As a Brit, I've never understood the appeal of baseball as a sport. But wasn't it popular for the experience? A day out at a classic stadium, hot dogs etc. Are the declining viewing figures relative to the tearing down of the classic and vintage baseball grounds? And the introduction of evening/night games?

The Jayman 03-22-2010 12:03 PM

I'm convinced this stukkband is a sock. Anyone want to fess up? Noid?

They probably have more to do with the growth of other sports, and the expansion of entertainment in general.
Like everything else, it's more niche oriented. In the old days, when there were like 5 channels on the television, more people were tuning into/paying attention to the same things.
Nowadays, people can tune out of the world series to watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians or some shit.
The same goes for movies, and television programs. There were less options, so everyone was into the same stuff more or less.

Now the sports world is massive. There are entire channels dedicated not only to sports, but each sport. Since then, the major leagues of football, basketball and hockey have gotten on the map. Neither of the three were huge nationally like baseball was.

Also, his figures are misleading. The trend graphs show growth for nascar, and decline for baseball, sure. It's irrelevant though.
If you actually read the graphs and look at the viewers in millions you will see that they are scaled differently, and Nascar isn't exceeding the World Series by much, or at all, in all of those years presented.

Triple Naitch 03-22-2010 09:33 PM

Also, there are some sports that will never catch on on the other side of their respective "pond". Cricket and baseball.

The Pope 03-25-2010 12:29 AM

Goldberg Return?

Does anyone give a fuck about Goldberg still? I know I don't.

McLegend 03-25-2010 12:31 AM

Glacier probably doesn't.

Lock Jaw 03-25-2010 12:38 AM

Yeah, I hear Glacier is cold on the idea.

Jeritron 03-25-2010 12:38 AM

At this stage in the game, I don't think he'd be anywhere near as over as he was when he left. Maybe in the Impact Zone where they'll pop for the hot dog vendor.

But a return to WWE wouldn't cause a big splash like it originally did. The crowd has turned over a bit. I think they could easily get him back over though, with the wonders of their promotion/video packages, and a push.
I don't think it's that exciting either way though. I couldn't really care less. I think it would be kind of a waste since he's not that great and you'd have to put him over a lot of people to make it work.
Anything more than 3-6 months of him would get stale quickly as well.
