Got it at Midnight at Wal Mart and played for 3 hours. Pretty awesome. The graphics are just jaw dropping. There was an actor that I recognized standing outside of a bar drunk, couldn't tell you his name but I LOL'd. It truly feels like a interactive Hollywood film. You get into the case and you don't wanna quit till it's done, truly immersing.

GOTY right now, but Elder Scrolls Skyrim might be a contender for it too if it is as awesome as it is looking so far.

D Mac 05-17-2011 04:15 AM

Oh and Wal Mart purchases have a code for a traffic case called A Slip of the Tongue. Dunno if these "exclusive" cases will be DLC later or not.

D Mac 05-17-2011 08:36 PM

Hold down Y *triangle for ps3* next to a vehicle.

ClockShot 05-17-2011 09:04 PM

Grrrrrr. Wanna start playing this, but I want access to my cases and machine gun so I'm ready to go the minute I take control.

Stupid PlaystationStore not working.

It's an isolated case with no bearing on the overall story. It would be silly to wait.

Also, I've not died in a shoot-out using a pistol, you don't need the machine gun.

LoDownM 05-18-2011 03:33 AM

Loving the game so far, even tho I suck at reading people. Cars seem to handle worse then the ones in Mafia 2, really the only complaint so far.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-18-2011 03:41 AM

The handling model is GTA4, but with much older, worse cars. The handling's fine if you remember to brake before turning like a real car.

Other drivers when you have the siren blaring, suck cock however.

Extreme Angle 05-18-2011 04:15 AM

My missus is really looking forward to this, considering she only plays The Sims and the Layton series... Hasney, how'd you get it the UK so early?

That's been pretty consistent in the GTA series. Usually when traffic hears a signal, their first reaction is to either slam on the brakes or swerve in front of you. But it seems to work better in this game, I feel.

Evil Vito 05-18-2011 11:45 AM

Yeahhhhh I think I need to get this ASAP.

Evil Vito 05-18-2011 02:38 PM

Right, just picked this up as a graduation gift to myself during lunch. Can't wait to play.

LoDownM 05-18-2011 03:06 PM

This game needs a replay feature or something. Was on a high speed chase, partner shot the guys tire out and his car flew straight up in the air flipping like it was a Warthog from Halo 1.

Razzamajazz 05-18-2011 03:16 PM

who wants to give me the money so i can buy this?

#BROKEN Hasney 05-18-2011 05:20 PM

Something's happened that's take the shine off it the teeniest bit. It's at the last case of the homicide desk, so don't look until you've played it.

SPOILER: show
First off is the gameplay change. Now I have to work out puzzles and have pointless balancing mini-games. Ugh.

Secondly, if this dude killed all these women, what's the deal with all the evidence in the guys houses? Bloody tire irons, shirts and all size 8 shoe? Come on...

D Mac 05-19-2011 01:01 AM

I'm on Case 3 in homicide.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-19-2011 02:31 AM

Sony cannot catch a break right now.

If you have a 60/80gb PS3 with the latest firmware, don't play this. It's overheating the console.

CSL 05-19-2011 02:49 AM

what about 250GB?

Emperor Smeat 05-19-2011 02:52 AM

Some people are saying its due to how the older models have a different type of soldering on the circuit or motherboard similar to what was causing the YROD/YLOD issue. Firmware might be part of the reason but it also could be more of the fans working a lot more than usual with the newest update on older models.

Xbox 360 has been having some problems as well but mainly with older models.

Evil Vito 05-19-2011 11:04 AM

I have an older 360. Better not give me any issues.

Loving the game so far. Hella addicting. I'm pretty bad at reading people but it hasn't affected the outcomes to this point. Different paths can be taken in each case so there's a ton of replayability.

Purgatory 05-19-2011 03:39 PM

Mines a 2008 and I'm about an hour and a half into it. Awesome so far

D Mac 05-19-2011 03:42 PM

Don't trust Ask the Community when it comes to interrigations. They've made me pick the wrong one every time.

I got a first batch 60gb and played mine for about an hour and a half today. Didn't skip a beat or start humming/blowing loudly.

Emperor Smeat 05-19-2011 07:06 PM

Rockstar takes back their statement of blaming or co-blaming the newest PSN update after numerous complaints involving the Xbox 360 version sort of hurt the claim of the game not causing the problem.

Some reports are saying Sony might have forced Rockstar to re-issue their statement due to Sony not wanting more bad publicity and once it was found out Xbox 360 were also suffering the same issue at around the same rate.

They are currently working on solving the problem with an update but it still has been shown to be more of a problem with older PS3/Xbox 360 models than the Slims or Elites. Current solution for Xbox 360 owners is to clear the cache to see if it helps to solve thr problem until the patch is ready.

Holy shit, didn't expect Disc 1 to be finished that quickly. Makes me feel like I'm already 1/3 of the way through the game. :(

ClockShot 05-19-2011 08:32 PM

Stupid question.

Is there some sort of clock in this game? If so, how do I know what time it is? Going back to do a few street cases and they're time sensitive.

Evil Vito 05-20-2011 12:28 AM

So uhhhhhh (in the Homicide section now).

SPOILER: show
Are you supposed to get the Golden Butterfly case wrong? I convicted the husband and got reamed at for fucking up by the boss.

So I went to the Dashboard and tried re-playing the interrogations to see what would happen. Got more questions right on the second go-around obv, but still was only able to convict the husband.

Guessing this is just one of those moments where you are supposed to hit a speed bump for the sake of the game - just wanted to clarify.

Disc 2 is much longer, seemingly.

If it's the case I'm thinking of, then when you investigate the bar, make sure to go out the back entrance after questioning.

LoDownM 05-20-2011 03:23 AM

Bah, had my first lock up with this tonight, don't know if it was a heating problem or not since I had only been playing for an hour and was playing for 4 straight the other day with no problems.

SPOILER: show
Nah, no bar in this case. But I think my problem was something similar. Guessing I missed a piece of evidence that would have allowed me to ask another question and ultimately charge the pervert guy.

Certainly adds to the replayability. Already looking forward to giving that case another try to see what I missed.

CSL 05-20-2011 12:31 PM

Just picked it up. Had no idea the pre-order Badge Pursuit challenge schtick meant getting some film negatives in a little pouch with some locations on. Pretty swish. PS Store needs to get back online already for the bonus cases though. See you in a week or so.

Drakul 05-20-2011 03:08 PM

Starting to feel compelled to buy the game with all the positive reaction surrounding it but I've DNF out soon so I'll have to wait.

CSL 05-20-2011 03:52 PM

only about half hour in but not a fan of how 'linear' it seems, seems like there's only one right way/one right answer etc, no chance to work around mistakes you make in interviews, interrogations etc. Could be wrong, only just about to start what I assume will be my first 'proper' case

The Mask 05-20-2011 05:34 PM

so is it any good? cba reading the first page.

Emperor Smeat 05-20-2011 06:44 PM

 The Creative Director for Far Cry 2 tried to trash the game on Twitter even though he only played 1 hour of the game.

Quote:

"1 [hour in to L.A. Noire]. Moriarty was right re games as kitsch. Derivative, uninspired, narcissistic. Nothing original to say, & said badly."
Kitsch basically means something that is worthless or a crappy copy of something else.

So far just him and the creator or producer for Heavy Rain have trashed the game. Heavy Rain creator/producer tried to trash it saying the facial and gameplay style was inferior to Heavy Rain even though Rockstar's uses a better engine.

There are multiple ways to do some cases, just not all.

I like that it's linear though, there's no way in hell they could have done motile endings for everything and have this brilliant a narrative unless it came on 2 blu-rays and made 360 owners cry.

And yes Jon lad, it's fantastic.

So does this game have online multiplayer mode or what?
