That’s a legit question btw I’m honestly not sure how this shiznit works.

Destor 06-07-2022 10:20 PM

maybe it is maybe it isnt but if party A can convince your holders it *is* party B is done. thats the isue. and yeah...you go to a bunch of suits and say "look at this comparable thing. theyre doing X. theyre making Y. we are refusing to do X so you are losing Y." well its not like the holders know shit about fuck about wrestling. they just see -$20mil/a.

Destor 06-07-2022 10:24 PM

id also like to say brand deals on gear and the like is a horrible idea in wrestling. youll make the roster bleed together in an age where standing out is far too difficult. you also have the issue of heels wearing brands and how their actions then reflect on the brand itself further diluting the products ability to be organic. there branding should be more like how theyve done it in puro. ads on the mat. on the buckle pads. hell guard rails. whatever. not the gear though.

Destor 06-07-2022 10:26 PM

and hypothetically if that was the proposal.. well id balk at it too

Destor 06-07-2022 10:26 PM

(thats speculative though)

Ring/ringside sponsorship was where my head went. Putting it on talent’s gear could open up a big can of worms; it’s on my gear, what do I get? If sponsors don’t want their shit on heels, does that create a reluctance to turn?

I’m imaging some really obvious product placement. Like a guy going under the apron for a ladder and pulling out a Snickers, turning to camera and taking a big bite.

It was bad enough in the UFC (at least for the fighters)

Yeah that was the problem—they weren’t allowed to get their own sponsors… they had to wear Reebok and lost out on tens of thousands of dollars.

I agree, it's also a huge risk on potentially losing sponsors and lots of money. For example, imagine JBL was wearing Nikes during that incident in Germany that caused so much controversy. It would instinctively force Nike to pull their sponsorship and others might follow suit and do the same thing because they don't want their brand associated with that

Crippla 06-08-2022 11:25 AM

I'm guessing that's what you meant by the heels actions...

Destor 06-08-2022 12:02 PM

as an example sure. it could be anything of course. snitsky punting a baby into the 10th row. whatever

Destor 06-08-2022 12:03 PM

or just a guy being a bastard in general.

#1-norm-fan 06-08-2022 12:16 PM

I long for the days where heels could be total racist, sexist, homophobic pieces of shit and people understood that they’re the bad guys and therefore SUPPOSED to be pieces of shit as opposed to being offended and calling for the show to be canceled simply because “words were said by a person”.

Granted, those racist, sexist, homophobic pieces of shit were faces much of the time in their day depending on the area, but still. Assholes aren’t allowed to actually be assholes even if the idea is to make you wanna see them get their ass kicked. Context is dead.

Where was I going with this?

Oh yeah… Check out the TPWW Classic Wrestling Watch-along every Thursday night starting at 8:30 EST!

Curt Hennig this week?

#1-norm-fan 06-08-2022 12:20 PM

Tomorrow night, baby!

We may even need to make it a two parter because trying to fit Hennig’s career into one night is a silly task. There are so many gems even in the relatively small bit of content that avoids WWE’s copyright.
