Interesting. If they do DR2 they need to make the in game text readable

I started trying to play this but the font was too small for my non HD tv.. Pretty shitty that they didn't add an option for non HD tv's..

The zombie game was originally released on Xbox in September 2006 but, according to Capcom, the Wii version wil provide a more intuitive and interactive experience as players use the Remote to aim and fire guns, swing and throw weapons and shake off zombie attacks. It also has an improved save function for more seamless gameplay.

Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, a freelance journalist looking for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a goood lead, he journeys to the small suburban town of Willamette only to find that it has become overrun by zombies.

Frank then escapes to the local shopping mall but he's not safe from the zombies for long. What follows is a struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies. Playing as Frank, you'll have use the goods of the the shopping centre's stores to your advantage. You can fight off the zombies with makeshift weapons such as golf clubs, lawnmowers and frying pans. Also, if you're running low on health you can restore energy by grabbing something to eat in a restaurant or cafe.

The game is split into a series of individual cases, all of which Frank must complete in order to gain vital information that will allow him to piece together the truth behind the horrendous epidemic. In addition to the cases, you'll also have to decide the rescue priority of the residents of Wilamette who also sought sanctuary in the mall.

If you're not skilled enough some residents might not survive as each rescue needs to be undertaken in a set time period, meaning you'll need to choose to save a fellow human and put off the completion of a case.

Dead Rising was one of the reasons I wanted a 360 but with it coming to Wii, I can scratch it off my list of reasons for a 360.

Extreme Angle 07-22-2008 07:19 AM

I want to get dead rising.

CSL 07-22-2008 03:30 PM

Dead Rising is the only 360 game I wish was on PS3

DS 07-22-2008 03:37 PM

Wow, that Wii version looks pretty bad. Not sure how anyone will be able to escape the mall with those dozens of zombies scattered about.

D Mac 07-23-2008 04:39 AM

Yeah compared to the 360 version that looks like shit.

Drakul 07-23-2008 10:06 AM

If it's using the RE4 engine then why doesn't it have RE4s quality of graphics?

If it's not due out for a while, it could still be spruced up.

Fryza 07-25-2008 12:36 PM

Wow, Wii Rising looks like shit.

Hopefully they at least fixed some of the bugs from the 360 version to make up for it...

#BROKEN Hasney 07-25-2008 01:27 PM

It's not using RE4s gfx quality to get more zombies on screen.

I read that they're taking out the photo taking though :(

D Mac 07-25-2008 01:55 PM

All the more reason to buy a 360! :D

Boomer 07-25-2008 01:56 PM

Saying it might work because Resident Evil 4 worked on the Wii is a pretty poor reason. We'll see.

I bought the latest issue of ONM on Friday and, as well as getting a full pack of Mario themed playing cards  there was a few pages on Dead Rising.

Some useful info:
-There will, apparantly, be "over 100 zombies on screen at any one time" or at least, thats the goal Capcom are gong for with the Wii version.
-There will be a new save feature that allows you to have multiple saves instead of the originals single save.
-The game will be split into episodes to make distinguishing between main missions and sub-missions easier.
- New enemies
- Overtime mode, an unlockable in the original, will be "packaged as standard" which I assume means it's unlocked from the start.

Obviously, there are a few Wii exclusive controls. ONM only detail 5 of them in the preview saying there are others but Capcoms keeping them under wraps. The motion controls are based on the ones found in RE4 on the Wii and the 5 shown in the magazine are:
- Shooting your gun works the same as it did in RE4:Wii Edition. Press the B trigger to aim and press A to fire.
- You swing the remote to use the baseball bat and you can charge it to have a maximum effect on crowds of zombies.
- You dodge attacks like in RE4:Wii by quickly moving the remote when the on-screen prompt appears.
- Shake the remote to knock zombies off of you.
- Make a downward slash motion to use the swords.

I don't know if things like the sword can only be swung downwards but it's the impression the magazine is giving. Although they could just be giving example of some of the remote controls because I wouldn't imagin you would be that restricted with a weapon. Surely we would get to swing the sword to the side like the bat.

That's pretty much all the Wii exclusive stuff mentioned in the preview. The rest was just the games backstory and so on.

Just found out that you, supposedly, wont be able to take photos in the Wii version.
The game is said to be played with a camera like Re4:Wii (even though the screens above, clearly aren't) and for some reason, that made them decide not to put in the photography.I've read it in various places.
Why would they take that out when it was a big part of the game? I hope it isn't out because I was looking forward to taking snaps of whatever cool things I come across. I'm betting it'll be a web forum rumour or a mis-traslated/out of context quote from Capcom.

BTW, it's said to be released Q1 2009 in the US.

Kapoutman 08-09-2008 04:56 PM

There won't be photography in the Wii version. Confirmed by Nintendo Power during an interview with game producer.

Drakul 08-09-2008 06:27 PM

If it has been taken out because of the in-game camera position, why can we still use the sniper rifle?
The only thing I can think of is the way the 360 version can tell what's in the photo and maybe the Wii can't do that. The news of this being cut has really brought down my anticipation for the game. I may end up getting a 360 for this after all.

Edit - Turns out the camera was cut to make the game "easier" and "more casual friendly".

Disturbed316 08-10-2008 07:17 AM

No camera? But thats one of the biggest parts of the game!

Destor 08-10-2008 07:19 AM

seriously

Gonna port GTA and take driving out next

Drakul 08-10-2008 07:55 AM

I still think/hope it's just a bad translation of the interview.

I've asked the producer anyway on Capcoms Europe site. You can post questions in the Dead Rising forum and they will pick the best ones and answer them. I asked two questions based on stories and rumours I've heard online.

- In terms of freedom, will the Wii version be as open as the Xbox360 version? I've heard that certain shops will have barriers stopping the player entering.

Like I said before, I can't imagin them taking it out because the reason was something to do with the new RE4 style camera but we still have the sniper rifle as a weapon. So if we can switch cameras for the sniper rifle then why not the camera?

Disturbed316 08-15-2008 04:01 PM

Got an HDTV the other day, so can now play this with no textual problems at all :D

Nakai-san: Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop has been specifically tailored for the Wii and we think it will be just as fun, if not better. The new camera angle and control mechanic mean that the player will feel closer to the action and therefore even closer to the zombies! We have also made some changes to elements such as the save system and progression through the game that we feel we enhance the Dead Rising experience.

Drakul: Is it true that the ability to photograph things has been removed? If so, why and how will this affect the game’s story and missions?
Nakai-san: Yes it’s true that the camera function as been removed. This was due to the fact that the concept of taking photos didn’t go down too well with the new RE4 engine and the new camera view. However even without the actual snapshot function Frank is still very much of a journalist who fully intends to find out the truth behind this zombie outbreak.

Megaman: What is different in everything you could imagine from the 360 version?
Nakai-san: I couldn’t possibly tell you all about it in a go. From the moment you start playing you will know that it is DEADRISING but then again you will also notice something is very different. Foremost of all, the view system that uses the RE4 engine will be more focused on firearms and aiming using the Wii remote will sure to bring more sense of interactivity and involve you into the game rather than sitting back playing on the normal control pad. You will also see that everything has been brushed up, more sophisticated if you like, so you will enjoy the game even more at ease with improved over all systems.

Edit: First video http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/20852 so glad I'm getting the 360 for Dead Rising.
