As for the retarded "Oh, at least we don't put out crap" rant. Of course you do. Wolfmother's a good example. Very good. Because they're so bad.

As for other bands. Well, I can't tell you. Unlike "bad" bands we export, you've had like two notable acts in like the last decade. Both are panned for being uninspired ripoffs, one is totally fucking awful at the same time. I'd like to point out all the shit I'm sure your music scene has, but let's face it: Nobody gives a fuck.

I mean, your music scene must have a pretty low bar if these are the honored guys who get exported elsewhere.

Oh how stupid of me, I forgot. You know what, for a second there I actually forgot that the world doesn't revolve around America. Just because something isn't big in America, doesn't mean its not good.

ok, and fuck you! I don't care what the fuck you think about 9 out of the top 100 in the triple J hottest one-hundred, beause the fact is, YES, it is a big fucking deal! Hence whyI mentioned it.

As for my supposed "at least we don't put out crap" rant...wtf, when the hell did I ever say that?

WTF is the Triple J Hottest 100? And how does Wolfmother being 9th on that list make them any good?

No, just because it's Wolfmother means it's not good, you stupid little cunt.

"OH WAAAAAAH WHINE WHINE AMERICA!"

Come off it, bitch.

It's a big deal to you and...Oh...Ummm...Right. Australia. Don't care. If Wolfmother ranks, then you fuckers don't have many people who actually sing or play. Or, the poll's not worth a fuck. Probably the latter. Just because you put stock in it, doesn't make it valid. You're quick to bash America, but what makes this more valid than the stateside polls that like Panic and all those shitty bands (Who, while they suck, don't suck because they don't know how to play their instruments or sing like sloppy wannabes).

Sorry, you're still fucking stupid.

Since someone else pointed that one out already, I'll just call you on being a fucking retard.

By the way, it wasn't about what the US likes. It was about being big outside of Australia. Of course you're going to be proud of them, you stupid fuck, you've had 2 bands with any international exposure in the last decade or so.

Sorry, your continent seems to really suck musically. And that's not a "pro USA" thing. It's just when you can only export like 2 bands, and one of them sucks ass...

...Yeah, even emo does better than that.

OH SNAP, DAWG, ITZ TRL 4 AUSTRALIA!

Seriously. Teens voting? That's how Fallout Boy and Panic got to be so highly rated. I mean, since teens voting=quality!

MVP 01-29-2007 11:16 PM

Especially teens voting by text messaging.

yea i vote 4 wolfmuther woooo cuz there sooooo hott lolz

Kane Knight 01-29-2007 11:28 PM

Especially when you are allowed to vote multiple times. 20 total votes per teen? Yeah, this is a very meaningful poll.

In defence of Triple J's Hottest 100, you can only vote once for a particualr band. (if you want to sit there with 100 prepaid phones and spend all night opening hotmail accounts go for it) But Triple J is more than a teen radio station, infact most teens I know don't listen to it because it's too diverse. I would put the demographic at 18-25 possibly 30.

In defense of my mocking him, SMS voting and even e-mail still favor the youth vote drastically. It's about as accurate as those phone polls they did in America to determine the President--At a time where phones were a luxury item. The medium favors the young.

Now, I don't think I really need to say more than that, but all the hits I saw on Google more or less said the same thing.

Anyway, I ask you, 'Nunder, how important is this poll to your nation?

I've probably said it twice in this thread already but fuck it:

Coldplay
U2

The way these two manage to be so samey yet so successful is beyond me, but worthy of recognition I guess. They've both done half a dozen good songs and the rest is just boring and shite. Also I swear the Edge hasn't changed his guitar sound in like 30 years.

Not important at all apart from the people who care (but then isn't anything). The hottest 100 is played/counted down on Australia Day - Australias national day, similer to your Independace Day (but we haven't made a shitty movie....yet)

Triple J the station is a non commercial governtment funded national radio station, Australias only national radio station. And although it is funded by the government, it is always getting accused of being "left wing" (we have a right wing government at the moment).

It is the greatest radio station in the World.

Kane Knight 02-01-2007 10:18 AM

What do you expect from the nation that spawned Rupert Murdoch.

No, no. I actually find them quite offensive to look at as well. They seem like complete, self-involved douchebags. And Sabbath and Zeppelin would be rolling over in their long-overdue graves if they ever heard they were compared to a flash-in-the-pan rehash of '70s rock like Wolfmother.

Quite an honour? Do you even remember half the artists that made it to the Top 100 in recent memory? It's not like there's a hall of fame for them or something. And I guarantee you the majority of the population - who don't listen to Triple J, mind - probably couldn't name them either. The Top 100 is useful for background music on Australia Day and that's it. A lot of bands who've made the list in previous years like Machine Gun Fellatio, the Hilltop Hoods, and Jet, are all novelties that everybody circle-jerks over for a year and then drops it. The rest are all international artists anyways. Kelis' "Milkshake" made the list in 2003 for fuck's sake. It's like the one song she ever put out and she made it in. What an honour. I bet she's thrilled. Don't delude yourself mate. The list is fun, for sure. But an honour? The world's a big place, and as nice as it is to be appreciated in your own country, it's not like Wolfmother have spawned their own Beatlemania.

Anyway, don't go chiding other countries for their output of music by saying we don't have bands like Panic! At The Disco and My Chemical Romance. Take off your rose-coloured glasses and have a peek at artists like the aforementioned Jet, and others like Grinspoon (fuck I hate Grinspoon), End of Fashion, Eskimo Joe, Regurgitator, The Vines, Kisschasy (who played with Simple Plan, just for information's sake), In The Grey, etc etc etc. We're not exempt from putting out crap, so jump off your high horse.

Don't get me wrong, there are some sensational Australian bands who will never get the recognition they deserve - bands who are incredibly talented to the point that you can't fathom why they're not on the radio when every man and his dog seems to be able to put out a hit song - but we don't have this perfect music scene that you seem to have envisioned for yourself.

I actually like a few Vines songs. Wouldn't count them among the greats, but hey.

Anyway, thanks for the rant. It's refreshing to see someone not fellate these lists. I've seen a couple of 100 lists from them now, and if ranking above some of the shit on there is an accomplishment, the music scene must suck. Of course it doesn't, but I mean, it's no different than the US music scene or any other country.

On the other hand, American pop music is an easy target, so who can blame them for the shots?

Anyway....
