Supreme Olajuwon 10-20-2008 01:20 PM

Ohio State vs. Penn State at the Shoe this Saturday. And it's a night game. This is going to be fucking awesome.

In addition we have Oklahoma State vs Texas and LSU vs Georgia. GOD I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Supreme Olajuwon 10-20-2008 04:18 PM

Also first BCS rankings are out:

<table class="tablehead" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tbody><tr class="stathead"><td>BCS Standings</td></tr><tr class="oddrow"><td> 1. Texas 7-0</td></tr><tr class="evenrow"><td> 2. Supreme Olajuwon 10-20-2008 04:22 PM

If you're keeping track at home, the ACC and Big East each have 2 teams in that list. The Mountain West has 3.

BCWWF 10-20-2008 04:30 PM

Looks like it's going to be another crazy year in terms of BCS. I like that.

Right now Texas, Bama and Penn State are obviously top dogs, but at least Texas and Alabama will probably drop a game. I'm pretty sure Penn State still plays Ohio State too, right? So it could be a remake of last year, when the top teams kept swapping near the end of the season.

Just as long as it doesn't jump around and end up being a USC-Ohio State championship I'll be fine. I'd just really like to see some other teams this year. Seeing Alabama and/or Penn State in the championship game would be cool.

Kris P Lettus 10-20-2008 04:31 PM

LSU should be higher than 13..

USC should not be in the top 5 at all..

I really think USC could have a losing season and then still be in the top 10 coming into the next season..

Supreme Olajuwon 10-21-2008 01:48 PM

Why should LSU be higher than 13? They're the most recent one loss team to lose and they lost bad. Besides its just the first week. You know if LSU runs the table they'll be back in the title game.

Kris P Lettus 10-21-2008 01:51 PM

I realize that Florida beat LSU, but they were still ranked at the time, while getting beat by an unranked team the week before (Ole Miss)..

Florida is still in the top ten after losing to an unranked team, then beating a top ten team, while LSU gets booted from the top ten after losing to a top ten team (Florida)..

Just doesn't make sense to me..

Kris P Lettus 10-21-2008 01:53 PM

In other words, the loss to Ole Miss should have impacted them more, even though it was a close game, than LSU's loss to a ranked team, no matter how one sided the victory..

Specially considering that USC got beaten by an unranked team a few weeks ago, yet is still in the top five..

BCS is gay and this is why I can't get into college football full force..

Supreme Olajuwon 10-21-2008 05:13 PM

So are you saying that LSU should be ranked ahead of Florida?

Kris P Lettus 10-21-2008 05:25 PM

No, but they also should not be out of the top ten..

BCWWF 10-22-2008 04:58 PM

Rankings are a very imperfect science. For example, the No. 2 team could lose to No. 1 by three points and some people would still move it down because of a loss. What it really comes down to though, is not losing late in the season. USC lost early but if they win out and Texas and Alabama lose their last game USC probably jumps them.

Kris P Lettus 10-23-2008 10:55 PM

Thing is, if it is a top 5 or 10 ranked team that beats Texas or Bama, that is ridiculous..

I hate the BCS..

Boomer 10-27-2008 12:32 AM

I agree with most of the inaccuracies of the BCS, but I have at least been pleased (somewhat) with UGA's placement in it over the AP, since the computer obviously factors in Georgia's loss to #2 Alabama. I would complain about Florida's placement in the AP, but the Bulldogs have the perfect chance this week to make the Gator's ranking a moot point.

And all this stuff in the media about Urban Meyer calling for a gag order on Georgia's "Gator Stomp" last year is just stupid. Like that one celebration somehow made this rivalry "serious" when this rivalry is already one of the biggest in the NCAA.

It will be quite an interesting game to watch for sure. I think Florida has an edge on UGA mainly because of Georgia's beaten up lines, but emotions will be high for sure, so who knows.

Supreme Olajuwon 10-27-2008 01:34 PM

I'll admit that I significantly underestimated how good Penn State's defense is. They were unbelievable on Saturday. Pryor's been really struggling with underthrown passes and that hurt more than a couple drives but Penn State was just dominating the whole game.

ClockShot 10-27-2008 03:49 PM

Ty Willingham stepping down as Washington head coach at season end.

The Outlaw 11-03-2008 09:30 PM

Phillip Fulmer is out. Tommy possibly could be next at Auburn. Some of my inside people are starting to talk about it. They were "talking" about Fulmer about a month ago. They also told me about Saban coming here when he was still coaching in the NFL. Add in the fact that not only has Lowder been wanting TT out for a while, but TT lobbied for the job at Arkansas. Pretty crazy year so far.

PS #1.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-05-2008 01:15 PM

Tuberville needs to get out of the SEC. I really think he'd be a great coach in any other conference. He'd be a great fit at Clemson.

The Outlaw 11-05-2008 05:00 PM

Yeah. I want him to stay so we can absolutely drill him the next few years, but he's a good coach. He's a business-like CEO type coach. He hires great assistant coaches (for the most part, lol Tony Franklin though...) and lets them do their thing while he oversees it.

He has his clueless moments though. I could see him succeeding at Clemson.

Kris P Lettus 11-08-2008 03:24 PM

Kentucky is about to beat UGA..

Supreme Olajuwon 11-08-2008 03:53 PM

Wow Georgia got lucky. I felt really bad for that Kentucky QB. He played his ass off and just made one dumb decision at the end. Only a freshman though so WATCH OUT.

Buckeyes dominated Northwestern today. Always love playing Northwestern on the road because the OSU fans usually fill up half the stadium. Pryor looked much better today.

Supreme Olajuwon 11-08-2008 03:54 PM

Krispy I'm surprised you're not in Baton Rouge today.

Kris P Lettus 11-08-2008 05:21 PM

Why does everyone think I'm an LSU fan??

I pretty much hate LSU, just that I pull for any good SEC team outside of the conference.. I am an Ole Miss fan..

Kris P Lettus 11-08-2008 05:21 PM

I do hate Bama though..

BCWWF 11-08-2008 06:06 PM

FUCK. I was supposed to get a new cable box and thus the sports package on Thursday but I called on Friday and apparently the lady forgot to send it. Now I don't have FSN Midwest and can't watch Mizzou-KSU. Going to be a shitty game, at least.

Also, DirecTV is pretty lame. You have to pay extra for local channels, and since I don't have the new box yet they won't let me get those channels yet. So today I missed out on LSU-Bama, OU-A&M, Penn St.-Iowa, Florida State-Clemson, and most importantly Texas Tech-OSU. UGH!!!!

The Genius 11-08-2008 09:09 PM

yes!!!!!!! PSU lost to iowa. and wisconsin hung 55 on indiana.

BCWWF 11-08-2008 10:03 PM

TTU looks like they are going to take OSU.

Texas Tech-Mizzou Big 12 Championship would be a helluva crazy game. Especially if Mizzou won and Texas and Oklahoma missed out on the BCS :D

Dreaming.

mrslackalack 11-08-2008 10:30 PM

Man UK is gonna be LOADED at QB next yr. Cobb is a true fresh and you have 2 top 10 QBs in the nation coming in that have been in Morgan Newton who has been featured on ESPN and Ryan Mossakowski. Not to mention Hartline but he struggled bad this yr and I think he will transfer unless 1 of the incoming fresh will decommit

mrslackalack 11-08-2008 10:35 PM

I look for Clemson to get Tuberville and Auburn to go after an offensive guy like a Leach, Pinkel, or Gundy or maybe their former DC Will Muscamp who is now at Texas who is the #1 big coordinator name going around for head coaching positions

BCWWF 11-13-2008 08:24 PM

I would really be shocked if Gary Pinkel leaves Missouri anytime soon. He'll get a big raise after this year, to add to things.

Kris P Lettus 11-16-2008 01:39 AM

Anyone see the D-back from Florida State tear his ACL while celebrating an INT??

Bill Gramatica stylesssssss..

:(

KingofOldSchool 12-05-2008 11:19 PM

Thank god Ball State lost, now I don't have to hear these morons trying to claim that Ball State is a better team than teams like Oklahoma, Texas, USC, etc.

*breaks out the air trombone*

Sepholio 12-06-2008 04:00 PM

Game of the year about to start. Florida is gonna do this.

UmbrellaCorporation 12-06-2008 07:45 PM

I like Florida. Always have. So I am psyched that they won.

But Tim Tebow is a gigantic faggot.

Vastardikai 12-06-2008 11:53 PM

Damn, Florida put 31 points on what was the best Defense in the SEC (and top 5 in the country).

I feel sorry for ANY team that has to play them.

The Genius 12-07-2008 12:12 AM

cant wait for tomorrows bowl selection show. hopefully wisconsin goes to the alamo bowl or the insight bowl.

RoXer 12-08-2008 02:34 PM

Arizona made it but against BYU? This will be their 3rd time playing them in 3 years.

BCWWF 12-09-2008 12:55 PM

I would just like to post my annual list of what the playoffs would look like in the only format that I deem fair. It's quite obvious why this would never happen, but this is the only system that gives everybody a fair shot. It should also be noted that the list of teams "screwed" out of the shot for the national championship would be Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, BYU and Oregon. Can't say that I would complain.

I should also note that I am not a proponent of playoffs. This is just the only one that I think is fair.

1. Oklahoma (Big 12)
16. Troy (Sun Belt)

8. Penn State (Big Ten)
9. Boise State (Western Athletic)

5. Southern California (Pacific-10)
12 Cincinnati (Big East)

4. Alabama (Wildcard)
13. Virginia Tech (Atlantic Coast)

6. Utah (Mountain West)
11. Texas Christian (Wildcard)

3. Texas (Wildcard)
14. Buffalo (MAC)

7. Texas Tech (Wildcard)
10 Ohio State (Wildcard)

2. Florida (Southeastern)
15. Tulsa (C-USA)

Vastardikai 12-09-2008 11:15 PM

I had a playoffs/plus one idea similar to that...

Minor bowls can be selected however the fuck they feel like selecting them.

Top 8 teams face each other, #1 vs. #8, #2 vs. #7, etc. etc.

Anyway, rotate four major bowls, like say, Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Cotton (no idea for the 4th one.)

Each year, the winners of the four games face each other in two bowls. the losers face each other in the other bowl games.

Then the winner of the two winner bowls face each other for the National Championship.

We get our playoffs, the sponsors get their bowl games. everyone wins.

BCWWF 12-10-2008 11:21 PM

VEL, you have a lot of flaws in there. I'm not sure if you just forgot or never knew, but:

1. Technically the four biggest bowls are: Rose, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange. After that, probably the Cotton and Capitol One are the biggest.

2. The biggest flaw is probably in the affiliations. Would you arbitrarily seed the four big bowls, 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7 etc? Or would you still use the current format, Big Ten vs. Pac-10 in the Rose Bowl, for example?

Either way would not fly. If you ranked the teams, you break the bowl affiliations, which we have seen is a pretty big deal -- especially the Rose Bowl, and to some extent the Sugar and Fiesta.

If you used the regular affiliations, you run the risk of the top two teams being in the Big Ten and Pac-10, thus making the rest of the playoffs unnecessary.

The "popular" theory spread by ESPN and the like is the Plus-1 method, but I think there are as many flaws in that as anything.

1. You don't need an added game every year. If there are two undefeated teams, why do they have to beat the "best" of the one-loss teams before playing each other?
2. Would you have the four BCS bowls as usual, and the 1-2 teams after BCS week play each other? OR would you add two additional semifinal bowls and keep the BCS national championship? Method one wouldn't really make sense. Method two would dilute the four remaining BCS bowls to the point where they aren't even significant.

I could go on. I understand these aren't well stated; I wrote this all out on a different thread and just kind of threw it together here.
