CSL 10-30-2008 12:58 AM

Official update is available. It's pretty sweet

DRBailey 10-30-2008 09:42 PM

Where do you get this update?

CSL 10-30-2008 11:06 PM

It's gone now. There was a problem with Nicklas Bendtner so they took it down. It'll be back up in the next few days apparently

XL 10-30-2008 11:56 PM

Do you need XBox Live for the update?

Or is it a XSATA / XPLORER job?

CSL 10-31-2008 12:03 AM

I don't think it came out for XBox at all. But it will be out when the new one is released. Not sure how it works with XBox though, it's a patch meant for everybody though so I assume you wouldn't have to have anything special for it

Confused 10-31-2008 04:02 AM

Will the patch automatically download to my PS3?

The Mackem 12-04-2008 11:37 AM

I'm thinking I will pick up Pro Evo, it seems to have a bit more about it than Fifa's mode. I enjoyed playing Fifa with a mate but Pro Evo sounds more challenging.

Mr. Monday Morning 12-04-2008 06:31 PM

Fucking hell.

Don't ever sign for Deportivo

XL 12-08-2008 04:36 PM

Got picked up by Chelsea! Broke into the starting line-up within about 6-7 games.

I've also been called into the England squad for the Euros and World Cup qualifiers and been named in the European and World Team of the Year. But i suspect that this might happen automatically.

The Mackem 12-09-2008 11:15 AM

Bought it last night but haven't played it yet. It's been on my mind all day haha

The Mackem 12-10-2008 04:27 AM

Think I started on too an easy a level as a striker. Got signed up to Bolton up front instead of Newcastle and West Ham. Bolton only play one up front but I was coming on as a sub at half time in the first five games as a right winger, scored a goal. Then they tried me up front as a sub against Pompey, didn't score but they kept faith in me. Started the next game against Stoke, scored a hat-trick before coming off cos I was knackered, the team went on to win 5-0. Biggest clue that I need to up the level is when we beat Liverpool 3-0 the next game, scored two and set one up.

I'll start again tonight. Enjoying it though.

Mr. Monday Morning 12-10-2008 07:39 AM

Got the fuck out of Depor after 10 goals in the first half of the season, another couple for England in the World Cup qualifiers (6 goals in 10 games  ) and signed for Villareal :D

Going to be hard to knock Nihat or Rossi out of the team but once I do this should be fucking golden.

The Mackem 12-10-2008 08:58 AM

Sadly, I don't think the Champions League is in the PS2 version.

If I can knock Elmander out of the Bolton team, you can knock out Nihat or Rossi MMM. What difficulty level are you playing at?

Mr. Monday Morning 12-10-2008 12:08 PM

Can't remember, I think it's the next one up from Normal.

I'm good enough that when I signed for Spurs right after they'd signed Rooney he got shunted out onto the left wing :D

The Mackem 12-11-2008 05:04 AM

:D

Restarted my game last night on a higher level. Went to Bolton again as a Striker/Second Striker/Winger. First substitute apearance was as a defensive midfielder for the injured Gavin McCann. Next two games were as left and right wingers, scored my first goal by rounding Tony Warner against Hull. After that they started me against Liverpool, on my own up front. Hard game that, they took me off on 70 minutes with the score at 0-0 - Kevin Nolan went on to win Bolton the game. Got dropped against Man Utd (we got beat 4-0 and I got straight back into the team), then had a run of a few games from the start. Best was against Wigan where I scored two. Been dropped another two games against Arsenal (after being up front against Chelsea by myself) and Spurs.

It's hard at Bolton cos you are up front every game by yourself. I'm a quick and nippy striker but they still put up a few long balls for me to try and get to. Frustratingly, sometimes when they take me off as a sub, they change to a 4-4-2 system. Dunno, think I'll feed on the scarps at Bolton this season and then try to move on to a team where I'll at least have a strike partner.

Mr. Monday Morning 12-11-2008 07:28 AM

Yeah playing up front solo isn't that great, although for some reason England play 4-5-1, very attacking though so there's always good support.

Took a while to break into the team but now I'm firmly in the rotation, scored 4 in 5 including 2 against Villa in the away leg of the UEFA Cup :D

Impeccable 12-11-2008 01:38 PM

Sounds awesome...recently traded in FIFA 09...how does it compare to fifa?

Thinking about getting this

XL 12-11-2008 01:48 PM

I noticed that whilst I was at Newcastle they'd always play 1 upfront (I think Chelsea are playing the same way too) but they never keep the same striker from match to match. Martins scored a brace in one game then didn't feature for 4 games. Odd.

The Mackem 12-12-2008 05:13 AM

The frustrating thing is that I can go a whole game without getting anything decent maybe a half decent chance, get a rating under 6.0 and get dropped for the next game. The daft thing is that if they played more attacking I wouldn't get dropped. They then tend to get beat in the game I am not in the team, then I go back into the starting eleven.

Anyway, played about ten games last night scored 3 goals or so, 2 against an absolutely shocking Everton defensive display, 1 against Stoke. Also won my first penalty which Nolan blazed wide. Bolton keep on plugging away, think we are in 6th or 7th in the league.

Mr. Monday Morning 12-12-2008 07:52 AM

I've had about 5 penalties so far and missed them all :o

The Mackem 12-12-2008 09:00 AM

You have taken them personally? Wish I were taking ours, not likely while I play for Kevin Nolan Wanderers. To be honest he's probably one of our best players, he weighs in with a few goals. Some of the others are shockingly bad, horrible passers or just run in to opposition defenders. Was getting sick of Matty Taylor until he banged in a belter, Cohen gets frustrating as well.

Mr. Monday Morning 12-12-2008 12:06 PM

Yeah it seems a bit random as to who it selects to take them midgame. One or two were in penalty shootouts but bar one that I blazed over the bar the rest have been saved

Bloody annoying since it's normally me who wins them (and not by diving :p)

XL 12-12-2008 12:35 PM

After half a season at Chelsea (where I scored once from LWF) I had offers from Man Utd, AC Milan and Real Madrid.

Figured I'd stick with Chelsea for now rather than return to the training matches at a new club. Wish they'd play me in the centre or even upfront now my stats have improved.

The Mackem 12-17-2008 04:49 AM

Was tempted to move to PSG in January but I looked at the team and noticed that they were playing 4-5-1 as well so I thought I'd stick with Bolton. We don't lose many games but draw a lot against the good and not so good. Can draw one week against Liverpool and then the next against Hull. Thought we were going to draw 0-0 at home to Man Utd when I got subbed off. Kevin Nolan then proceeds to assault the Man Utd defence skipping passed about five of them and blasting an unstoppable shot into the top corner. I think we are about 8th or 9th in the league and I'm 5th top scorer in the league.

Really into the game, would play it loads more if I could. Try to keep it down to an hour at night at most though. Most satisfying performance last night was against Newcastle away. They took a two goal lead in the first half. In the second I pulled one back with a fine finish past a distraught Shay Given and the that crazy Argentinian with a perm scored an own goal to gift us a 2-2 draw.

Team selection is crazy at times. Walker tends to play more than Jaskelainen, Walker has this annoying habbit of playing the ball short to the nearest man in times of defensive danger. Cohen continues to be played even though when Muamba plays the odd time he is a much better and adds more to the attack. Get it sorted Megson!!

XL 12-17-2008 10:43 PM

FUCK this is pissing me off!

Before I used to get about 75 mins on the pitch per match, now I keep getting subbed on about 55 and not because I'm fatigued. It's also not that I'm playing poorly as I always have one of the highest ratings for the team.

I just scored in back to back games and now I don't start the next game. And all this whilst Chelsea can't get a win. We're like 11th-13th in the league!!

Go into the options and set "Manager AI" from "Retard" to "Intelligent". :shifty:

The Mackem 12-18-2008 03:25 AM

I tend to get subbed at around 70-80 minutes, then they tend to change to a 4-4-2 formation. Unbelievable.

Last night I put us in the lead against Arsenal in the cup, subbed me off on about 75 minutes. Arsenal then equalise and I have to sit through extra time and penalties which Arsenal won :(

Eight games left until the end of the season, might possibly get into Europe but I'm seriously considering leaving at the end of the season if any decent offers come in.

I'm at about 13 Goals in 22 games or something like that, still in the running for top goalscorer. Need to up my game a bit and by that I mean bolton need to attack more

Mr. Monday Morning 12-18-2008 02:33 PM

What's your average rating Mackem? With that kind of ratio you should get some decent teams come in for you.

Won the UEFA Cup with Villarreal :D

Lost the first leg of the semis at home to Fiorentina 3-1 :o but won the away leg 4-1  and then beat Milan in the final 3-0. Scored in each of those games, finished top scorer for the competition :)

Signed for Real in the summer. Not going that great, defence is still shipping goals as usual and I've not quite broken the rotation yet so I can still end up on the bench game to game. Scored a few though.

The Mackem 12-19-2008 03:15 AM

Finished the season - 30 appearances 16 goals. Needed to get the hell out of Bolton because for every good game I had there would be about three or four which were almost write offs because the team barely attacked.

Had a few offers from teams like Bologna, Napoli, Deportivo, St Etienne, Hull but the one that stuck out was Roda JC from the Netherlands. They play an adventurous 4-3-3 formation. I came on half way through the second half in the first match against Feyenoord a goal down. After a few minutes, the coach changed to 4-2-4. Makes a big difference from always playing in a 4-5-1 formation at Bolton. Scored my first goal in my second appearance as a half time sub. Hope to break the top three in Holland with this team.

I would have went ot the other teams but I think Hull might have been frustrating in respect to creating goals, Bologna and Napoli didn't have as good a midfield as Roda JC. Deportivo play 4-5-1 which I had no interest in, the choice was between St Etienne and Roda JC really.

I'm not sure what my average rating was last year. Funny thing was at a point I saved the game and simmed the last eight games to see what happpened at the end of the season and I eneded up in the league eleven. When i actually went back and played the games, I didn't. Was getting too many 5.5 ratings at Bolton when they weren't creating much, the better games I could easily get 7.0 - 8.0, they just weren't very regular.

By the end of the first season, all my stats had improved by four points from the first game.

XL 12-19-2008 04:12 AM

Season 6 = Best season for me yet.

CHELSEA
  • Scored 12 goals in all competitions from Centre Mid (and LWF sometimes).
  • We won the "FA Cup" beating Everton 1 - 0 in final (taking my personal record in finals against Everton to 2 wins, 1 loss).
  • Beat Man Utd 4 times (including Cup Semi Final) with me scoring in two games.
  • Drew too many league games finishing 8th overall - although one more win would have put is in Euro Qualification spots.
  • Knocked out of "Champions League" in Group Stages (proper not qualification ones).
  • Knocked out of "UEFA Cup" by Lyon (who were also in my CL group!?) in first match.
My average rating was around 6.50 with 12 Man of the Match performances. I didn't get in the Euro or World teams even though I was Chelsea's top scorer for the season. Think this was my second highest average rating - the highest one coming when I won the award for Top Assister and got into both Euro and World teams.

ENGLAND
  • Got my first International start against Turkey on the opening group game of the "World Cup".
  • Should have bagged a hat trick in 2nd game against South Africa but missed oppurtunity to get 1st goal for England.
  • Debut goal for England in 1 - 0 win over Peru to top the group.
  • Beat Hungary 2 - 0 in first KO stage.
  • Beat France 4 -1 in Quarters.
  • Beat Spain 2 -1 in Semi having gone 1 down on 32mins we scored in stoppage time at the end of the 90 then a goal on 95 in Extra Time holding out for win and a place in Final.
  • Beat Italy 5 - 3 on penalties after 0 - 0 draw. Of course I was subbed so didn't have a penalty to take.

TRANSFERS

Received offers from West Brom, Man Utd, Lyon, AC Milan and ASTON VILLA. I was very tempted to go to Villa as I'm a Villa fan IRL and they did finish above us. Decided to stick with Chelsea as I've only been there a season and a half.

I hope to move abroad in a few years and then return to England with Villa (or vice versa). Proviging I'm still doing well I guess.
My average rating for the season was around 6.50. Oddly enough though I wasn't selected for the Euro/World teams as I was when I was top assister a few seasons ago.

XL 12-19-2008 04:13 AM

In case you were wondering.

The Mackem 12-19-2008 06:27 AM

You better believe if I get an offer from Sunderland, I'm going :D

Do many other transfers occur around you in the game? Say if you are at a club for a few seasons and are doing well, for instance take a crap team the the league title, europwe etc, do they bring in quality players?

I remember Bolton brought in one or two people at the start of last season but nobody really noteworthy.

XL 12-19-2008 06:46 AM

Transfers are ludicrous tbh.

There are so many players that have switched between the "Big Four" that just wouldn't happen. Reina and Fabregas to Utd are prime examples. Beckham plays for Fulham, Gerrard has gone to somewhere like Torino, Everton have Mountinho.

Chelsea had Owen when I arrived and have signed Vicente (who I must be keeping out of the team) and Nani just joined in the last window - as well as other less well known faces over the years.

Basically there are loads of transfers that just wouldn't realistically take place.

XL 12-19-2008 06:47 AM

Also, I've had offers from Sunderland since the first season - even when I was playing for their biggest rival.

The Mackem 12-19-2008 07:13 AM

My first three offers were from Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham. Shame that 'Newcastle were not 'Sunderland' instead :(

Cactus Sid 12-19-2008 08:05 AM

Anyone know what features aren't on the PS2 version? I've read that the Champions League stuff isn't included, but this career mode sounds pretty sweet, was wondering if it was on the PS2.

The Mackem 12-19-2008 09:01 AM

Yeah the Champions League isn't on it apart from that I wouldn't know except the obvious better graphics. I've read some people commenting on that PS2 has better gameplay but I haven't played it on any of the next gen consoles.

I had 2008 on PS2 and just this BAL mode alone makes it a massive improvement on last year's.

Mr. Monday Morning 12-20-2008 09:33 AM

Hit a really good vein of form. Seems I'm a bit like Rooney in that sense :o

Knocked Barca out of the Spanish Cup, put together a decent run in the league to climb to 5th (including walloping Santander 7-1 - scored 4, assisted 2, still only got an 8 :|) and scraped through to the champions league 1/4 finals after coming back from 2-0 down to beat Osasuna 3-2. Got Fiorentina up next, they should be scared after what I did to them last time :D

Getting a bit sick of some of my team-mates though. Drenthe can run fast and that's about it. Raul only passes to certain players. Robinho would rather try to dribble past 5 players than lay a pass square. And Sergio Ramos, when he's not giving the guy he's marking 10 yards to work in, 70% or more of the time when he tries to tackle gives away a penalty or a free kick on the edge of the box. Unreal.

Still, am up to 15 goals and 4 assists at the halfway point. Did think about signing for Valencia but World Cup 2014 will be at the end of the season and I don't want to be fighting David Villa to get into the team.

The Mackem 12-23-2008 04:13 AM

Don't get me started on team mates, some of them are the thickest idiots ever

Anyway still going with Roda JC, might have made a mistake joining them as they aren't too good. However we are into January and sitting in 9th or 10th which is about the same place Bolton finished last season. If we can improve by a few places I'll be happy. Strangely, it's not really Ajax, PSV, and Feyenoord that are the difficult teams in this league it's Heereven, FC Twente NEC etc who are hard to play against. I think the rest of the team raise their game against the bigger clubs.

Got high hopes for the cup, through to the second round - I think we have a chance.

Not really scoring many goals this year, I think I have about 7, but my all round game has improved

Mr. Monday Morning 12-23-2008 07:39 AM

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure european games count as 'bigger' games and so you get more experience bonus if you play well in them. Try and finish top 6 and you'll get into the champions league qualifying round :y:
