ffs

Super V 07-08-2009 11:31 PM

I don't really mind either way. But I'll get in the matches that I can.

Blitz 07-09-2009 01:43 AM

Think I should pull out of this, on account of being terrible at actually doing tournaments and stuff like this.

RoXer 07-09-2009 04:44 AM

Just come practice with us this weekend.

G 07-09-2009 08:48 AM

lol my BP is now 0.

Not a matter of being bad. Matter of being lazy. I always do this shit then get bored and not actually want to do it.

Still better than me though. Probably Kalyx too.

This I gotta fucking see. Not being pompous, I'm just excited at the prospect of a new challenger. Gotta get Gold Ranger this weekend and check you out.

Don't really shop online.

G 07-09-2009 07:44 PM

Then you are paying too much.

Kalyx triaD 07-09-2009 07:53 PM

I'll look into it.

G 07-09-2009 08:12 PM

Everything is cheaper online, Kalyx. It's just a matter of finding it.

Kalyx triaD 07-09-2009 08:28 PM

Aye.

I don't know... I always had this fear about buying stuff online. Guess it's something worth getting over.

Funky Fly 07-09-2009 08:38 PM

1. Super V - Chiszmo
2. Gaylx - Kalyx triaD 360
5. Hasney - Hasney
7. Boomer - jtboomer2
9. Blitz - Luneknight
10. Drakul - Drakulbites
11. G - sgand
12. Ant - TonyRomoASL

Ok you lot, I have either never played you or have not played you in ages. Let's make it happen soon. I'm kinda free most of the rest of this week and the weekend (except Satuday night). No excuses, lads.

I take it Super V is the man to beat. I still wanna see how I stack up against Kalyx because I played him the same day I first played RoXer and that was disaster city.

Kalyx triaD 07-09-2009 08:47 PM

lol

I cannot wait to see Super V's gameplay. I'm awestruck. On one hand, RoXer has some legitimacy regarding skill evaluation, on the other hand - I'M FUCKING GOOD.

This battle must happen.

By my guesstimations, it's half price. You're not going to beat that.

Also, I bought 4000 MS points from himand had no trouble.

If you want something more reputeable buy.com should even be cheaper than most retail.

G 07-09-2009 10:07 PM

I seriously should be ranked 12. So terrible

RoXer 07-09-2009 10:07 PM

Also, everyone should be battling for that fourth spot since the top four are going to have it kinda easy.

Boomer 07-09-2009 10:58 PM

I bought the 13 months from that guy...and same as everybody else I've seen, I got my code in one minute.

I'll be on tonight playing SFIV or The Bigs 2. Just let me know if you want to play.

Khuntry 07-10-2009 12:16 AM

Kalyx triaD 07-10-2009 12:29 AM

Bored as shit so I'm gonna discuss myself for a bit.

I'm what most observational people would call a defensive player. The first thing I do in most matches is see what you do first. You do something (not necessarily offensive) and I gauge your reasoning, aggression levels, play style, 'combat IQ', etc. After your move I react, and we make what I call a 'turn'. A turn is basically action-reaction events from a neutral stance. After the 4th or 5th turn I'm conclusive about how to treat the fight and maintain from there.

Some of you have experienced me acting in ways that seem aggressive and bulldog-ish. Even then I'm merely being defensive. I understand if this seems subject to... subjectivity (am I attacking you in offense or hitting you before you hit me? Hmm...). In any case I will play the clock and look at you the entire time if it keeps me in a safe place (that is: a position that yields the least surprises). Me playing another defensive player is hilarious.

Know that fighting me, everything that happens is your fault.

I'm actually shit when my anger gets into the mix, so if I'm beating you it means I'm calm. If I'm calm I'm not scared. If I'm not scared you're playing my game and not yours. I take impulse and expectations into account, and I feel I do well against my direct opposites. More importantly, I know my characters well - yours, too. I know the EX immunities and the ranges. This of course is stuff you need to know just to play at a certain level, but combined with my patience I think it helps me greatly.

That's it for now.

Khuntry 07-10-2009 12:48 AM

Interesting.....

Kalyx triaD 07-10-2009 12:57 AM

Hardly a code to my gameplay but if it helps let it swim in your head for a bit.

Also, my Cammy is probably the 'purest' translation of my fighting style - of all fighting games, I mean. And for trivia, I'd say my Nightmare (SC4) is closest to me playing in an aggressive, 'mean' way.

Super V 07-10-2009 01:00 AM

I've never thought I played any sort of style. I just go to it.

Super V 07-10-2009 01:02 AM

RoXer's Akuma's and Fei Long's Kung-Fu are quite good, he was narrowly defeated.

Kalyx triaD 07-10-2009 01:05 AM

His HDRemix Akuma is far more difficult. Fei Long... I don't know... I go into FL matches with gleeful confidence.

RoXer 07-10-2009 01:05 AM

I have a feeling Super V was going easy on me and come tourney time he's going all out.

Khuntry 07-10-2009 01:06 AM

I've learned a great deal from Kalyx in the last recent months and its always a pleasure facing him in battle (not only in SFIV). I used solely rely on offense to win games but after going against Kalyx my defense and metagame shot up.

Just had a session with him last month btw. Although I felt that he wasn't at his best (I've face a more punishing Kalyx earlier) his sakura is something to look out for in the future.

Need to get back in the groove.

Khuntry 07-10-2009 01:10 AM

BLAZBLUE + DRAGONFORCE = ECSTASY
just had to put that out there

Super V 07-10-2009 01:12 AM

Where is everyone anywayz?

Kalyx triaD 07-10-2009 01:15 AM

I still think it's funny how my Sakura just... came out of nowhere and stepped into Cammy and Vega's circle. Equally funny is me dropping Ken just as fast (fucking hippie).

I can say Khuntri's Ryu taught me to watch out for that gay-ass DP juggle. RoXy's Akuma taught me to consider projectile speed at greater priority. Can't tell you how many times I jump into a fireball. The slow ones, too.

Am I the only one that thinks Guile looks hardcore racist?

Super V 07-10-2009 02:01 AM

Boomer's pretty damn ruthless. I'd say our session was inconclusive. Needed more matches.

Kalyx triaD 07-10-2009 02:01 AM

My friend's sister said Guile reminded her of John Cena.

Super V 07-10-2009 02:03 AM

I dunno man I could see him sittin in a bar with his army buddies talkin about "darkies" and all that.

"Darky tried to use some kickboxing max out crap. I sonic boomed his ass."

Boomer 07-10-2009 02:09 AM

I had fun Super V. Sorry about the constant Bison, but he's currently my only credible tourney character. The practice was well needed, and helped me work on switching up my game, albeit in small bits. Dan was the only character you pulled that I felt like I was lost against.

I would prefer to get a few simple combos into my game, but I feel pretty good about not making many rookie mistakes. I really really really want to cut all those stupid early Ultras out of my game completely. Hate it when its an obvious block situation. Want to work in the focus and pressuring attacks too.

Kalyx triaD 07-10-2009 02:48 AM

Some Audacious Tips:
  • 'Toe games', or the concept of rapid crouch weak kicks (or punches), pushes your opponent away until mid kicks are needed and so on. On defense, after you block three (sometimes four) toe kicks, absorb the ensuing mid-kick with a quick FA and dash out into defense. A quick FA will not stun your enemy, but they will be freaked out into doing a bigger move out of retaliation. This is why you dash out from FA recovery into neutral position, so you can defend their response (usually some anti-air attack). Practice this against Guiles: wait for their toe game to lead to the inevitable 2x Sweep. Block the first sweep and FA the second, dash out into defense to block their Flash Kick (90% swear to God). Make them pay on their recovery.
  • Stop jumping. Develop new ways to transport yourself safely across the stage. Dash more often and use moves that travel just for movement and not attacking (though landing a hit isn't so bad). Jumping is fucking dangerous in this game, so the meta-game is staying grounded. I promise you will see players for what they are after you lessen your dependency of jumping like a blind rabbit and half their strategy fades away.
  • So when do you jump? I'm still trying to crack that code myself! But I like to think of jumping as a counter move rather than a mode of travel. Jump in such a way that somebody wishes they seen it coming, and no - jumping forward over projectiles does not count (people prey on that reaction). Jumping forward is great if there's enough space between you and your opponent that you can land safely and defend. Ryus, Akumas, and Sagats (more like Fagats, amirite?) try to abuse their fireball (non)recovery all the time. You jump over their fireball and they're already good for an attack. Play against this. Let them throw fireballs and just jump over them. Don't retaliate. Only retaliate attacks, not baiting. Believe me, those fireballs are baiting.
  • This leads me to Cross-Ups. I don't like Cross-Ups, personally. I find them to be a long standing bug tournyfags would kill themselves if Capcom ever 'fixed' it. But it's here, and this is how I deal with them (trivia: it just so happens my top characters have poor cross-up moves, so I play against them more often than use them). Cross-ups work at a certain range that you can train yourself to see before they jump. It's just inside sweep range, or optimum fierce range if you will. You can fix this by using a traveling move as they jump over, taking you to safety (Fierce Hurricane Kick, Abel's roll). You can also merely be mindful of this range and stay close or far depending on your current strategy.
  • Also: If your opponent is in the corner and he Cross-ups you, shame on you. If they're in the corner, let them breathe more often than not. Punish their attempts to leave the corner.

That's all for now.
