Damn forgot about Freel's imaginary friend, Farney.
RIP Farney. |
Indians sign Nick Swisher. 4-years, $56 mil. with a $14 mil. 5th year vesting option at the end of it.
That's a fucking steal. |
It's sad that we live in a world where $56 million for Nick Swisher can be considered a steal.
|
He probably could have gotten more somewhere else.
I was sure somebody was gonna overpay. |
If you consider he wanted a "Werth"-like contract ($126 million, 7 year), then its a huge steal. Also a few million per year lower than he was demanding. Doubt the 5th year ever gets picked up since he'd be around 37-38 by then.
Now him going from $10 million a year to $14 million a year probably not worth the increase considering his habit to struggle at really bad times. |
I don't think its a bad deal but I don't think its a steal just because he wanted a Werth-like contract and didn't get it. He obviously knew he wasn't getting a Werth type deal.
I'm sure every player that hits FA wants a Werth-like massive overpay type contract. When people don't get it I don't consider them a steal because of it. And the 5th year of the deal is an easy vesting option based on plate appearances in 2016 so as long as he's healthy the deal is 5 years/$70M. |
Swisher wanted a Werth contract? That's nuts.
|
Werth getting a Werth like contract was pretty nuts at the time.
|
probably going to end up like the Jason Bay/Mets thing. Everyone thought his contract was a steal at the time.
|
Nick Swisher Similar Players
Similar Batters 1. Jason Bay (946) |
I think Swish will do well for the first two years of the contract. He has really good plate discipline, and I don't expect that to deteriorate much. His power will likely be the first thing to go, but I'm guessing not till year three. I think he's either at first base full time by then our splitting time between first and DH

Jay Bay has become such a parody that I feel sorry that anyone is compared to him in any capacity. Loved him in PBurgh though.

Andruw Jones spends X MAs in jail for Domestic assault
|
Cannot fucking believe he played in the 1996 World Series and is only 35.
Andrew Jones, who is a 16 year MLB player is only 6 years older than me. I watched him when I was a fucking Kid in middle school. |
I remember being in like 7th grade, talking about this awesome rookie for Atlanta. Damn he was young then.
And seems like a lifetime since he hit 50 homeruns for Atlanta and he was only 28 when he did that! |
Kinda wondering if this is gonna cancel is his deal with Rakuten.
|
man this thread died down quick

After 10 years in Major League Baseball, Hideki Matsui is going to call it a career.
As a Yankee fan, I thank you for your service, sir. You will be missed. |
He was a hell of a hitter and seemed like a good guy. I always feared his glove, however. The outfield of Matsui, Damon and Sheffield was frightening.
|
And I say that as a Yankee fan that cringed when the ball was hit out there.

Unfortunately, there is a media uproar over the Atlanta Braves bringing back their "screaming savage" logo for spring training. Funny thing is that I don't believe the Braves ever refered to it as that, but the media used it to make it seem more egregious than it really is. Personally, I think he looks more cheerful, like he's laughing, than a blood thirsty redskin of America's past.

I dunno, it's kinda racist. I dunno if it's more racist than the Indians logo. Dunno why the Braves would even want to bring the logo back and have this conversation. |
Looks like the final boss in a Sega game.

Brewers sign Mike Gonzalez. 1-year, $2.25 mil. + incentives.
Takashi Saito goes home to Japan. Signed a 1-year, $350k deal with the Rakuten Golden Eagles. |
