Damn forgot about Freel's imaginary friend, Farney.

RIP Farney.

ClockShot 12-23-2012 01:32 PM

Indians sign Nick Swisher. 4-years, $56 mil. with a $14 mil. 5th year vesting option at the end of it.

That's a fucking steal.

Evil Vito 12-23-2012 02:59 PM

It's sad that we live in a world where $56 million for Nick Swisher can be considered a steal.

ClockShot 12-23-2012 03:48 PM

He probably could have gotten more somewhere else.

I was sure somebody was gonna overpay.

Emperor Smeat 12-23-2012 04:09 PM

If you consider he wanted a "Werth"-like contract ($126 million, 7 year), then its a huge steal. Also a few million per year lower than he was demanding. Doubt the 5th year ever gets picked up since he'd be around 37-38 by then.

Now him going from $10 million a year to $14 million a year probably not worth the increase considering his habit to struggle at really bad times.

Dragon 12-23-2012 04:19 PM

I don't think its a bad deal but I don't think its a steal just because he wanted a Werth-like contract and didn't get it. He obviously knew he wasn't getting a Werth type deal.

I'm sure every player that hits FA wants a Werth-like massive overpay type contract. When people don't get it I don't consider them a steal because of it.

And the 5th year of the deal is an easy vesting option based on plate appearances in 2016 so as long as he's healthy the deal is 5 years/$70M.

RP 12-24-2012 12:56 PM

Swisher wanted a Werth contract? That's nuts.

Damian Rey 12-24-2012 01:13 PM

Werth getting a Werth like contract was pretty nuts at the time.

DaveWadding 12-24-2012 02:15 PM

probably going to end up like the Jason Bay/Mets thing. Everyone thought his contract was a steal at the time.

DaveWadding 12-24-2012 02:21 PM

Nick Swisher Similar Players

Similar Batters

1. Jason Bay (946)

Damian Rey 12-24-2012 03:02 PM

I think Swish will do well for the first two years of the contract. He has really good plate discipline, and I don't expect that to deteriorate much. His power will likely be the first thing to go, but I'm guessing not till year three. I think he's either at first base full time by then our splitting time between first and DH

Havent checked the stats, but i think i can say for sure that i witnessed Jason Bays only homerun in like 5 years, last year a Reds/Mets game. Me and my buddy were stunned. I think we talked about it for the rest of the game. It was like witnessing a white whale.

The Condor 12-24-2012 03:53 PM

Jay Bay has become such a parody that I feel sorry that anyone is compared to him in any capacity. Loved him in PBurgh though.

Hanso Amore 12-26-2012 12:54 PM

Andruw Jones spends X MAs in jail for Domestic assault

Hanso Amore 12-26-2012 12:56 PM

Cannot fucking believe he played in the 1996 World Series and is only 35.

Andrew Jones, who is a 16 year MLB player is only 6 years older than me. I watched him when I was a fucking Kid in middle school.

Hanso Amore 12-26-2012 12:58 PM

I remember being in like 7th grade, talking about this awesome rookie for Atlanta. Damn he was young then.

And seems like a lifetime since he hit 50 homeruns for Atlanta and he was only 28 when he did that!

ClockShot 12-26-2012 04:10 PM

Kinda wondering if this is gonna cancel is his deal with Rakuten.

Supreme Olajuwon 12-26-2012 04:28 PM

man this thread died down quick

Do you want a third baseman?

ClockShot 12-27-2012 04:34 PM

After 10 years in Major League Baseball, Hideki Matsui is going to call it a career.

As a Yankee fan, I thank you for your service, sir. You will be missed.

The Condor 12-27-2012 05:09 PM

He was a hell of a hitter and seemed like a good guy. I always feared his glove, however. The outfield of Matsui, Damon and Sheffield was frightening.

The Condor 12-27-2012 05:10 PM

And I say that as a Yankee fan that cringed when the ball was hit out there.

Adam Laroche would be nice

Unfortunately, there is a media uproar over the Atlanta Braves bringing back their "screaming savage" logo for spring training. Funny thing is that I don't believe the Braves ever refered to it as that, but the media used it to make it seem more egregious than it really is. Personally, I think he looks more cheerful, like he's laughing, than a blood thirsty redskin of America's past.

I dunno, it's kinda racist. I dunno if it's more racist than the Indians logo.

Dunno why the Braves would even want to bring the logo back and have this conversation.

screech 12-28-2012 07:10 PM

Looks like the final boss in a Sega game.

ClockShot 12-28-2012 07:12 PM

Brewers sign Mike Gonzalez. 1-year, $2.25 mil. + incentives.

Takashi Saito goes home to Japan. Signed a 1-year, $350k deal with the Rakuten Golden Eagles.
