"Stefan Struve has recently been diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve and an enlarged heart and was hospitalized for a week to undergo testing to determine the best course of treatment. The doctors found that Stefan has a bicuspid aortic valve, wich means that his aortic valve only has two leaflets, instead of three. The aortic valve regulates blood flow from the heart into the aorta, the major blood vessel that brings blood to the body. In combination with the enlarged heart it causes his heart to only pump 70 percent of the blood into the aorta and then the rest of his body, and the remaining 30 percent ends up back in the heart chamber. After consulting experts in both Holland and the United States, it was decided to treat the condition with medication for the next two months and asses the effectiveness of that treatment protocol. After those 2 months, the doctors will have an answer on what the best treatment options are.
At the direction of his doctors, Stefan has now been released from the hospital and has resumed light cardiovascular exercise. Stefan fully appreciates the significance of the condition he has been diagnosed with, however, he is optimistic about the eventual outcome and fully plans on living a long, healthy, active, happy life and eventually returning to competition in the octagon for his quest to become the UFC Heavyweight Champion.
Stefan loves the UFC and plans on being involved with company as a fighter and ambassador for years to come. Stefan wants to thank all the fans who have supported him thus far in his career as well as the UFC, Dana White, Lorenzo Fertita, Joe Silva, Dr. Jeff Davidson, the entire staff of the UFC, and his fellow fighters for affording him the opportunity to compete on the biggest stage of the sport of MMA, as well as a tremendous degree of support during this trying time. In particular Stefan wants to thank Dana White, Lorenzo Fertita, & Joe Silva for immediately getting engaged with this issue and providing Stefan access to the best possible medical care. Stefan will be sharing his experiences as he deals with this medical condition in the hopes that he can serve as a role model by helping to create awareness and inspire others to fight through adversity."

Kris P Lettus 08-23-2013 01:25 PM

the only good thing I can see coming out of this is now they have time to plan an Ireland card for his return, which will be huge

"You butt face" is my favourite line from that.

Kris P Lettus 08-24-2013 02:33 AM

I like that he calls a 5 round fight 30 minutes

Kris P Lettus 08-24-2013 02:57 AM

Oh yeah, belfort vs hendo

Love it

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 08-24-2013 03:14 AM

Gotta assume he included the 1 minute break between rounds, then rounded up.

I'll forgive him either way.

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 08-24-2013 03:14 AM

No idea who I'd support in that fight, though. I love both of them.

Someone said the same thing on another board but Wandy said "I want a full 30 minutes to punch you (sonnen) in the face"

UFC fighters arent allowed to punch each other in the face in between rounds

;)

Next Big Thing 08-24-2013 11:13 AM

We're arguing semantics. We all know the point he was trying to make.

I personally think Sonnen would not only beat Wandy, but submit him. Chael's a smart fighter who won't go out there and do what Stann did and if the Axe Murderer comes out swinging, Sonnen's power double will change that pace really quickly.

Kris P Lettus 08-24-2013 11:37 AM

Sonnen would destroy him

That might be his best chance to land anything in this match-up.

Kris P Lettus 08-25-2013 01:40 AM

nice

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 08-25-2013 01:48 AM

I enjoy seeing Wanderlei knock anybody out, but this fight seems way less winnable than most.

It sucks that he lost twice to Rich Franklin, and once to Chris Leben, since neither of those guys will ever be relevant again.

Kris P Lettus 08-25-2013 01:52 AM

Wamd used to be a beast in pride and I loved that bezerker shooto boxe shtyle, but I always pulled against him. This all steams from his first hendo fight and the first 2 rampage fights.

Sonne is gonna take him down and pound his face

BJ Penn returns to coach TUF against Frankie Edgar...and will fight the finale at Featherweight. Niiiiiice. Also Urijah Faber was originally supposed to be in against Edgar but they couldnt agree on a weightclass.

Impact! 09-12-2013 01:02 AM

Oh and Shogun Rua Vs Te Huna will co-main event the Brisbane card in december...hell yeah

Im pumped about BJ coming back but the whole weightclass issue with Faber is dumb. Faber vs Edgar should have happened at 145 because its both of their natural weightclass and the onlt reason Faber dropped down was to have more named fighters at 135.

BJ Penn is my favorite fighter of all time, but I don't see this drop working out for him. I feel like it will take a lot out of him. That second fight with Frankie kind of showed it. BJ is a natural 155er and was exhausted going into the fourth and fifth rounds.

I don't need to see these guys fight a third time. I know it ends with Edgar via decision. I hate seeing a legend like him go out like this.

Faber versus Edgar would have been money though.
