Strasburg to throw no-hitter in his MLB debut.

OssMan 06-01-2010 01:12 AM

It's all a ploy by Nationals ownership, they're gonna say he couldn't start on the 8th, then move it to the 9th and do the same thing, until the fans finally figure out that they're just trying to get a ton of people into the stadium, then he'll debut once the 10 people who give a shit about baseball in DC boycott.

Droford 06-01-2010 01:56 AM

If he makes the scheduled start on the 8th, barring any rain outs or anything he'd be set to pitch at Camden Yards at the end of the month.

Peter Angelos must be thrilled.

How about a backup catcher swap with Jose Molina for Jason Varitek?

Not that Tek's been that bad or anything this year, but having Molina's cannon arm certainly couldn't hurt.

Yeah throwing out runners has been a major problem for Red Sox catching this season. I chose to keep Tek cause his bat has been pretty good off the bench and his ability to call a game, protecting the pitcher, and locker room leadership I think are invaluable to the team.

I do miss Jose Molina, switching from Posada to him last couple years was great

<font color=goldenrod>Pretty sure Oliver Perez is the most selfish player in baseball right now.

He STILL refuses to go to Triple A to sort his shit. He seems to think he'll magically come back to form when he gets into a game, even though Jerry Manuel has more or less said he's unusable out of the bullpen. Furthermore, several members of the team are furious at him and have implored management to give Perez an ultimatum - either go to Triple A or get out.

If this gets any worse, they may actually so something very un-Mets-like and eat $20M to DFA him. Would be amazing to get him the fuck out. Funny thing is, I bet even if he is DFA'ed, he'd get claimed instantly since the claiming team would only have to pay him league minimum.</font>

Supreme Olajuwon 06-01-2010 12:34 PM

In Perez' defense though, the Mets didn't have to give him a right to refuse a demotion in his contract. What's the point of putting it in the contract if you're not supposed to use it when the time comes? What other situation exists where Perez would want to use that right besides this exact scenario?

It's just horrible foresight by Mets management.

Splaya 06-01-2010 12:54 PM

Oh yeah I meant to do that trade within the division thing

Splaya 06-01-2010 12:57 PM

Detroit Tigers fantasy swap

From the Twins: Joe Mauer for Gerald Laird
From the Royals: Alberto Callapso for Brandon Inge
From the White Sox: Sergio Santos for Ryan Perry
From the Cleveland Indians: Shin Soo Choo for Ryan Rayburn

<font color=goldenrod>It has nothing to do with Perez' contract. Being able to refuse demotion has to do with service time. I don't know what the exact time frame is, but once you reach a certain number of years in the bigs, you can refuse demotion to the minor leagues. It's one of MLB's quality control policies to try and keep teams from sending down veterans, but in situations like this it looks really retarded.</font>

Supreme Olajuwon 06-01-2010 02:35 PM

Oh really? Hmm. I retract.

Evil Vito 06-01-2010 06:13 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, I don't get why Perez is so against it. He'll still be getting paid and he may be able to save SOME face by going down. Steve Trachsel agreed to let the Mets send him down in 2001 after he became the only pitcher in team history to give up 4 HRs in one inning, and he wound up reinventing himself and having a solid career with the team.

Hell, even Jerry has jabbed him in the media:

Reporter: "Do you feel that keeping Ollie in long relief is a hindrance to the team?"
Jerry: "Only when we need a long reliever."</font>

Hanso Amore 06-01-2010 07:35 PM

Maybe he doesnt want to risk get nabbed on waivers?

McLegend 06-01-2010 07:37 PM

Phils are down 3-0 in the bottom of the first and it's currently in a rain delay.

And I have 0 confidence that they can come back.

Big Fat Mike 06-01-2010 08:32 PM

I hope tex is out for a month and Juan Miranda ends up being ROTY

ClockShot 06-01-2010 09:21 PM

Didn't take long for Dontrelle Willis to find a new home.

Tigers trade D-Train and some cash to the Diamondbacks for Billy Buckner. The Tigers will also pay the rest of Willis' contract, which is about $8 mil.

RoXer 06-02-2010 12:05 AM

Great deal

Emperor Smeat 06-02-2010 12:13 AM

At least this Buckner guy doesn't play 1st base. :shifty:

Evil Vito 06-02-2010 12:34 AM

<font color=goldenrod>The more I see Mike Pelfrey, the more I'm convinced he's for real.

If you would have told me before the season started that Mike Pelfrey would not only be really good, but actually look like a very safe bet for the All Star Team, I'd have asked you to pass over what you were smoking.</font>

DaveWadding 06-02-2010 12:43 AM

Kind of split about this weekend's D'Backs games.

Saturday is Chacin/Willis and Sunday is Rodrigo Lopez/UbaldOH! Don't really think I can pass up on Ubaldo can I?

Skippord 06-02-2010 01:13 AM

I'd go see Ubaldo

although Chacin is fun to watch too

wow..Rodrigo Lopez is still pitching..wish he was back in baltimore lol

God, the Orioles are just pathetic.

OssMan 06-02-2010 02:04 AM

Yeah I was watching the Dbacks yesterday and couldn't believe I saw Rodrigo Lopez. He looks so much older. Remember when the O's "young guns" were Lopez, Bruce Chen and Daniel Cabrera. What happened there

Skippord 06-02-2010 02:08 AM

BARMESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

DaveWadding 06-02-2010 02:10 AM

SkippyG

McLegend 06-02-2010 06:06 PM

Good job, Phillies

ClockShot 06-02-2010 08:09 PM

Ken Griffey Jr. is/has retired.

M's manager Don Wakamatsu says it's effective immediately, but I heard from Mike Kay during the Yanks game just now that he's done at the halfway point of the season.

RP 06-02-2010 08:33 PM

another perfect game about to be pitched.

ClockShot 06-02-2010 08:35 PM

Yeah, Tigers pitcher Armando Gallarraga. Splaya is probably glued to his TV right now.

RP 06-02-2010 08:36 PM

that or jacking off to Gay porn.

Evil Vito 06-02-2010 08:39 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Gonna be insane if it happens.

3 in a year, all in the past month, with 2 in the past week...holy shit</font>

ClockShot 06-02-2010 08:46 PM

Holy shit, AJax just covered mad ground just to get that.

RP 06-02-2010 08:48 PM

Solid job by ESPN not covering this.

RP 06-02-2010 08:48 PM

Dont show it live...its only a perfect game...

ClockShot 06-02-2010 08:48 PM

They got it live right now. Unless your market sucks.
