Sometimes I listen to Dave Meltzer clips like I enjoy popping a pimple. Meltzer and Alvarez were going after the MJF/Regal segment hard.
You can feel Chris Jericho’s machinations behind it. Meltzer shaking his head about how MJF needs to turn babyface. It didn’t make sense. You know — as opposed to literally anything else on that show that gets a pass on that. They really zeroed in on it being MJF’s fault and didn’t turn blame at, I dunno — Tony Khan? The booker? |
It’s eerie how much Bryan Danielson in AEW is reminding me of Bret Hart in WCW. It took WCW about 15 months to run a Nitro in Canada after Bret’s arrival. AEW are going to be running Seattle about 16 months after Danielson’s debut.

Punk COULD have lied about his dog losing its teeth, but that would have been pretty fucking stupid. He COULD lie about the cause of that. But if the guy thinks it stemmed from The Elite barging into his locker room thinking they’re hot shit (likely), then I’m sure it’s in the report. What’s amazing are the dirt sheets confused as to why it’s not out there. The Elite are the ones spreading gossip. Punk spoke to Hausman and that’s about it.
Punk is many things, but I don’t know if dishonest is something that has ever been associated with him too heavily. If anything, brutal honesty and an inability to keep his mouth shut with his opinions seems more on the button. It seems weird to me that he would lie about that and that he wouldn’t drop it in the report even if it were a lie. |

I'm really intrigued by the Regal story. I can't imagine him taking off early and somoene like Danielson sticking around, maybe I'm wrong.

Young guys who don’t improve because they aren’t prepared to listen to older guys. It’s literally how wrestling is passed on. It was always about respect for veterans and what they could teach you about working a crowd and making every movement mean something.
These guys will have the same match forever, because for some reason, they already seem to think they know it all. Really sub-par selling, reactions and psychology in their matches. If the rumors are true and someone as skilled at that side of the business as Regal has also found them immature, they have a serious problem. It’s their playpen and it will never grow. |
I sympathize that these guys need to have that cocky attitude or they wouldn't be where they are. But IMO that group of workers--while having done well to get where they are and make the money they're making--seems to have hit their ceilings. Listening to the Punks and the Regals, even if the advice felt condescending and dismissive of their accomplishments, would help. Still, in their shoes, I could see it being a tough pill to swallow...they think they're the veterans and this is their turf, so why are veterans coming in and telling them what to do?

AEW has all these awesome vets around and it's still a shitshow imo. Clearly theres a failure in management and clearly its Tony CoKhaine. Everyone should have seen the writing on the wall by the time Cody left to go back to Vince. WWE has been better the whole time, even at it's shittiest. AEW was just the new hotness. |
Regal should return to wwe by driving the same ambulance he was taken away in on dynamite.
