Londoner 10-08-2005 11:04 AM

Why does the england game kick off so late?

Londoner 10-08-2005 11:12 AM

Northern Ireland 2-2 Wales. :D Come on Ireland.

yianni 10-08-2005 11:18 AM

LOL Wales.

Mr. Monday Morning 10-08-2005 12:59 PM

I demand Kenny Miller be benched for the next Scotland game so that he is fresh for our forthcoming demolition of Sheffield United.

Yes, 2-3. Our first competitive win for like 2 and a half years. :D

Cool King 10-08-2005 04:46 PM

Damn.:(

But England were really lucky to get that penalty.

I actually think they didn't deserve it, and I'm not saying that because I'm Scottish, but because all that Owen did was stumble to his knees.

There was no need for a penalty.

But I'm happy that Scotland got as far as they did. Walter Smith has done some great things to the team.:D:y:

Now all he needs to do is get rid of the crab that is Barry Ferguson. I really hope Quashie was injured, because if he wasn't then it's an absolute disgrace that he wasn't in the team.

Wengerland 10-08-2005 05:44 PM

Well Holland have beaten the Czech's so England have qualified.

But of course Sven will still have to go. Still, the football today was quite terrible, too many high balls up to Crouch and he didn't win as many as he probably should.

Ogen 10-09-2005 01:57 AM

Well just how shit do you have to be for your keeper to be Man Of The Match against Cyprus ffs. Terrible. We don't deserve to go through at all but heres hoping anyway

yianni 10-09-2005 02:01 AM

:( @ our result. Ah well, let's hope Australia can pull something out of their arses and make the World Cup, lol

As in, what?

It was a foul. It was inside the penalty area. If a foul is committed inside the penalty area, it is a penalty.

Unless it's Robert Pires, then it doesn't matter ;) :nono: (RBF :'( )

Hey, it was in the area :shifty:

Wengerland 10-09-2005 10:37 AM

The penalty was soft in the sense that that kind of thing usually happens and if penalties are awarded for that then they'd be like 5 given each game. Depends which way you look at it though, if refs are clamping down on that then it should have been given and players would cut it out, but it's making it less physical, so i can see it both ways.

The one which wasn't given was clear-cut though.

toxic rooster 10-09-2005 11:05 AM

Find me a ref that wouldn't give that though. In my league we've had some absolutely terrible refs and I'm confident that every last one of them would have given a penalty for that

yianni 10-09-2005 11:41 AM

Well slap me on a hook and call me bait. Australia actually played fucking well in one of their international games. :| Granted we were only playing Jamaica and it was a friendly, but for once we actually played quite well and we well deserved the 5-0 scoreline. :| It pisses me off big time that Farina was not sacked earlier so Hiddick would have more time to work with the players, cos at the moment he is doing a fantastic job.

Gentlemen, the last round of South American qualifiers are on Wednesday. As it stands atm:

The dirty Uruguayan cunts are in 5th place at the moment, but Colombia and Chile still have a chance to finish 5th and ensure a play-off against Australia in November. Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Ecuador have all qualified already.

These are the games remaining in the qualifiers

I think Chile will beat Ecuador, Columbia will get a draw against Paraguay and Uruguay will draw with Argentina, meaning we'll be playing Chile, but fuck knows what will happen, cos all three teams gunning for 5th place are playing teams that have already qualified.

toxic rooster 10-09-2005 12:23 PM

Who are we hoping for? I remember you said there was a decent Chilean community here, so here's to hoping we don't get them.

Would be nice though to get Colombia then win thanks to an own goal and see whatshisface get executed though [/blatant ripoff of posts from another forum]

yianni 10-09-2005 12:35 PM

Mark Viduka, Marco Bresciano and Jason Culina were excellent against Jamaica.

Well I dunno who I want. Let's look at the 3 opponents we might get

Uruguay

Pros: We've played them before and we will know their stengths and weaknesses a bit better than the other two countries. We have also beaten them before (1-0 in Melbourne) so we know we can beat them.

Cons: They'll also know our strengths and weaknesses, plus they beat us overall last time to qualify, with the 3-0 in Montevideo (:'( ) so they could have a mental advantage over us.

Chile

Pros: Would be more suited to us

Cons: A very tricky team that can go awol if it wants to. Plus, a large Chilian population in Australia. We don't want a farcical situation like we had when Turkey visited here, with nearly half the ground supporting Turkey. :| Having said that, I think only 500 or so tickets will be allocated for away fans in Sydney, so we shouldn't have that problem.

Columbia

Pros: 'Easier' opponent (although they're all difficult), we probably have a very good chance to put a few past them in Sydney.

Cons: High altitude...will be an absolute cunt to have to travel there for the away leg.

They're all gonna be difficult - especially the away legs - but I think overall it will be better to play Chile. I'm just fucking rapt we have the away leg first so we can go there, hopefully steal a draw, then get the fuck out of there, come home and just gun it for a result.

Let's see what happens Wednesday

From this site: http://www.webindia123.com/sports/football/fouls.htm

When a player of the defending side intentionally commit one of the offences below, within the penalty area he is penalized by a penalty kick.

1. kicking or attempting to kick an opponent

2. tripping an opponents, i.e. throwing or attempting to throw him by using legs or by stopping in front or behind him

3. jumping at an opponent

4. charging an opponent in a violent or dangerous manner

5. charging an opponent from behind unless the latter obstructing him

6. striking or attempting to strike an opponent

7. holding an opponent

8. pushing an opponent

9. handling the ball, i.e. carrying, striking or propelling the ball with his hand or arm; are penalized by the award of an indirect free kick. It is to be taken by the opposing side from the place where the offence is committed.

Do you see "When the player stumbles to his knees"?

toxic rooster 10-09-2005 01:01 PM

Take a good look at #7.

Mr. Monday Morning 10-09-2005 01:20 PM

tbh Colombia are probably Australia's best bet, they've looked pretty average whenever I've seen them the last couple years. I dunno about Chile they used to be good but the star players I knew of (i.e. Salas) are pretty much done now, I don't know what the new generation is like. Uruguay are always unpredictable and still have guys like Recoba and Forlan, so you can never count them out.

I'll try and find a video of it.

Here's the video.

Go to 00:26 on the video and you'll see that Owen just stumbles to his knees.

You guys call that a foul!?

It looks like Owen was trying to keep him away but he got his arm tangled, so it's his own fault.

I still think England we lucky to have gotten that penalty.

Plus it didn't help with that other guy running in front, ruining the view.
