Not sure what that'd translate into in GTAO.

Apparently, you're the goddamn Batman.

the primary reason, as covered, not being a technical one.

Kane Knight 08-16-2013 10:41 AM

Also...Is this the first 360 game with a mandatory install, or have there been others?

Drakul 08-16-2013 10:46 AM

Forza 3 had a mandatory install. One discx was the game, another had the cars on it.

Savio 08-16-2013 10:51 AM

Oh fuck yeah I need to buy a backup harddrive to make space :/

Drakul 08-16-2013 10:54 AM

I need to buy a transfer cable to move stuff from my 60GB to my 120GB. Don't fancy spending £15 on something I'll use once.

Savio 08-16-2013 11:11 AM

You think I could just buy a 32GB flash drive to back things up on? I am running out of outlets

Drakul 08-16-2013 11:36 AM

CVG interviewed Leslie Benzies (R* North president) about GTAO

Quote:

CVG: What scope have you got for expanding beyond the locations we're seeing already?

Leslie Benzies: Well, one thing we've toyed with - and we've talked about this before so it isn't a spoiler - is the ambition to grow the world until it's the world. We're going to just add on new things to it, new places all the time.
We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limition is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got. We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, diffrent countries, whatever.
Whether we do that or not...but we've got a bunch of old stuff that we're toying with using.

Drakul 08-16-2013 11:38 AM

Maybe a series of DLC cities? San Fierro, Las Venturas, Vice City etc?

Nah, you could play it without installing Disc 2. Just missed out on a little bit of content.

Drakul 08-16-2013 11:51 AM

A little bit? I was under the impression it was the vast majority of the content.

Disc 1 will contain the main game, around 300 cars, and most of the tracks. Disc 2 will have the other 104 cars and 29 tracks

I see.

Does Miami have anything that could make Vice City interesting? The hook for VC on the PS2 was that it was the 80's.
I remember Stephen Fry traveling through all the US states on TV and saying Miami was bland and dull. What was shown did seem to back that claim up. So, is there anything to Miami?

Ah. Yeah, I don't follow Forza, so I wouldn't know. I have Elements or Essentials or whatever it's called, still in shrink wrap, from my replacement 360.

The one problem I've found with PS+ is that my HDD is full.

Of course, the "problem" only exists in that I have too many games I like to/want to play for free on my HDD, so it's one I can live with. But I seriously need to upgrade my HDD.

No. None of my friends have a 360. Maybe 3 of them have a Wii. Not a Wii U, just a Wii. I the only one with a real interest in gaming.

Yeah, it was the only thing I could think of this side of the 80s that involved Miami. Not counting remakes.

It's also the only way I could see Miami being interesting.

Plus, BDC and I had talked at length about a GTA-style Burn Notice game in the past. I think he even posted about it.

Going to buy a used one from CEX for £6, use it and sell it along with my 60gb hard drive for a profit.

So that's a yes to Miami being dull?

Being my hometown, I can't sell something I grew up in as some magical town or anything, but in the context of GTA I could propose a few things:

- Like Vice City, I imagine a GTA5-era Miami would again focus on South Beach, Little Havana, and parts of Downtown. Taking these areas into account, and with obvious expansion, I95, Downtown Miami proper, Hialeah, Miami International Airport, and Bayside (where the Heat's AAA stadium resides).

- Miami is already like LA without the hills and rich people, but modern Miami's Downtown has grown a lot since the Vice City 80s rendition. Our skyline has grown and you may remember parts of that in Driv3r's Miami stage. While not the steel and cement metropolis of Liberty City, the tropical/exotic urban mix may be cool in the new engine. This would be the most familiar of GTA-type locals.

http://www.condo-southflorida.com/im...own-ATNITE.jpg

- Just a little South of Downtown is Bayside, where the AAA stadium is. Think of Bayside as a mix of Coney Island, Cuba, and Madison Square Garden. A lot of our postcards with boats and such are of this place (the rest almost surely South Beach). Bayside offers your port-side fun with docks of boats and lots of little markets to make chaos in. If you'd be able to enter the arena, it would make for an interesting deathmatch map - or perhaps basketball minigames.

http://www.watertaximiami.com/images...ines-arena.jpg

- Miami International Airport looks like every airport ever, and would be accessed via taking I95 north. So let's just take a look at I95. It was used as the main highway in Driv3r and would connect all the major areas. The big chase in Bad Boys 2 was on I95.

http://www.interstate-guide.com/imag...-095_st_17.jpg

- Also, the first scenes on Scarface where the Cuban refugee camp was, as well as the basketball fight scene in Only The Strong, took place under the same I95 overpass downtown. This would make for cool meetings and shootouts. It's also to this day a pretty fucked up area.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...wn_under02.jpg

- South Beach is almost exactly how it seemed in Vice City. Further expansion could add a more realistic connection to I95 (it just sort of blended into Downtown in Vice City) as well as a functional Star Island, home of Miami's super rich, ready for you to buy and live in.

http://s.freshnewtracks.com/wp-conte...ch-Sunrise.jpg

http://listings.theagencyfl.com/idx/...mi_Florida.jpg

- Along with MIA, Hialeah is more westward vs the all the East Coast areas I described. It also rounds things out with it being the residential 'commoner' part of the area. A key attraction is the horse race track that may be good for lulz.

http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/culti...leah-obama.jpg
Best picture I could find.

- I almost forgot, there's a monorail that cycles between Bayside and Downtown that could be functional and offer a track to run around recklessly on.

http://us.123rf.com/400wm/400/400/ve...n-the-back.jpg

I would love to see all of this rendered in GTA5 visuals and detail. It would certainly be my main city and has more than enough diversions for possible minigames and general messing around.

Drakul 08-16-2013 02:56 PM

The one thing I want in as far as new areas is the one place I know wont ever be in.

A Scottish map would be great. We have mountains, forests, large cities, small towns, cliffs, caves, beaches, lochs, huge rivers etc.

It would be fun to be able to have a shoot out on top of Edinburgh castle, maybe even using the cannons.
Sniping from the Law Hill in the GTA equivilent to Dundee (Discovery City?), maybe stealing the actual Discovery ship.

Probably tons more stuff too.

If it's not American or London it has zero chance.

whiteyford 08-16-2013 03:03 PM

Running over neds would be fantastic.

Drakul 08-16-2013 03:28 PM

Every GTA has so much Scottish humour and so many references, they may as well just set one here.

Remember being surprised when I played San Andreas and saw the Forth rail and road bridges. Or seeing the "Visit Dundee" poster in GTA III (or was it Vice City)? Tons of them.

It's also fun watching videos of professional American games journalists, acting all serious, and they say "BAWSAQ" and are completely oblivious to what they just said.

whiteyford 08-16-2013 03:35 PM

If there's a mission to destroy Weegie land I'd preorder GTA Scotland now.

I want Edinburgh so I can shoot down an enemy helicopter with a cannon. It would be really cool to have a shoot out under the city in all the old chambers and stuff. You know what I mean, right?

Other cities have other attributes towards them too. A game with Edinburgh (Castle City?) as the "main city" and Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen as smaller cities with countryside, mountains etc in between would be fun. Just like SA on the PS2 with LS, SF and LV but on a much much bigger scale.

Liked Project Gotham for driving around Princes street, be nice to have identifiable landmarks to kill people at. Running over students at the Fringe. etc. Pity Arthurs seat isn't bigger.

Even though Rockstar is treating GTA V Online as if it was a separate game, they have no plans to ever release it as a stand-alone game.

Quote:

Grand Theft Auto Online was revealed to the world yesterday, when it was confirmed that it would ship with all retail copies of Grand Theft Auto V on September 17, but would not go live until October 1.

“We don’t have any plans to sell GTA Online separately,” a Rockstar rep told Polygon. ”It will come free with every copy of GTA V and doesn’t require a code, online pass, or anything like that.”
