ROFL

serious business

I could see Os scouts going undercover as scouts for the Astros or something..with big cowboy hats and fake texan accents..

They predict the future!

Droford 03-29-2012 05:35 PM

shoulda photoshopped "players" over scouts.

Mike Mussina is going into the Os Hall of Fame. Should be an interesting reaction for the traitor, I personally would rather see him rot in hell first, but I understand most people dont share the same feelings. At least he never won a WS with the Yankees.

Dragon 03-29-2012 05:41 PM

So I take it you aren't a big Mussina fan?

Dragon 03-29-2012 05:57 PM

I do wish Mussina would have stuck around another year and got a ring though.

Gertner 03-29-2012 09:24 PM

Love my Jays blowing their load in the pre-season. 20-4 record.

Droford 03-29-2012 11:22 PM

You dont think they can win 135 games this season? lol

RP 03-30-2012 07:14 AM

Jeff Samardzija is in the rotation
Ian Stewart and his sub .200 average is at Third base
Brian Lahair at First base
David Dejesus is batting lead-off
And Alfonso is still watering the left field with dropped fly balls

I'm gunna go ahead and make the 2012-2013 offseason thread.

See you next season gang!

Skippord 03-30-2012 07:20 AM

yeah you Cubs fans can enjoy Ian Stewart

was my favorite player for awhile, but he is infuriating

Triple Naitch 03-30-2012 08:49 AM

Yo Skip, I picked up Jordan Pacheco for my fantasy squad. Is he gonna hold down 3B for the first couple of months?

Damian Rey 03-30-2012 01:49 PM

Just read that the new Fox Sports San Diego channel is unlikely to be picked up by my cable provider, Ti Time Warner Cable. God damnit. Now I have to hassle through uninstalling TWC and installing Direct TV.

he'll probably split time with Chris Nelson for the first few months while catching and filling in at 1st base every so often. I would imagine he'll get a lot of at bats.

Emperor Smeat 03-30-2012 08:15 PM

Red Sox could be reopening the Theo compensation issue with the Cubs due to Chris Carpenter needing elbow surgery and being out for the early part of this season.

Its not really the team itself but Lucchino who might want a new swap done even though the Cubs won't agree and both teams doctors cleared Carpenter's physical.

Evil Vito 03-31-2012 12:20 PM

If both team's cleared the physical, it's a dead issue. Tough shit Sox.

Evil Vito 03-31-2012 12:24 PM

49 year old Jamie Moyer has made the Rockies rotation. Simply amazing. Gonna root so hard for him to do well enough that he can get into a game at 50 next year.

Droford 03-31-2012 12:41 PM

LOL..wanna put Moyer into some perspective..

Moyer started pitching for the Orioles in 1993, the 2nd year that Oriole Park at Camden Yards was open.

Camden Yards is now 20 years old.

All of this makes me feel ridiculously old.

Evil Vito 03-31-2012 12:47 PM

Moyer beat out Tyler Chatwood for a rotation spot. Moyer had completed his 4th big league season by the time Chatwood was born.

Droford 03-31-2012 12:56 PM

I dont think Tyler Chatwood can be feeling too good about himself right now, being beat out by a guy thats 49 years old.

Droford 03-31-2012 12:59 PM

49 things to know about Jamie Moyer
5 Moyer missed last season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, the only summer he hasn't played baseball at some level (including Little League) in 40 years. "The coolest thing was I was able to be at home and cook on the grill and be a part of our family home life a little more,'' he said. "I greatly enjoyed that and at some point I look forward to doing that on a full-time basis. But not now.''
6 Tommy John was still a major league pitcher, and not just a surgical procedure, when Moyer started in the big leagues.
42If pitching doesn't work anymore, perhaps Moyer can come back as a hitter. He has 34 walks in 485 career plate appearances, a better walk rate than Robinson Cano or Adrian Beltre had last year.
43 Or maybe not. Moyer has never hit a home run. He has allowed a record 511, however.

lol

Pineda is likely going to the DL for the Yankees with a sore shoulder. That trade could end up being terrible for the Yankees.

DAMN iNATOR 03-31-2012 02:45 PM

So, 20 years ago Magic goes out and gets HIV, and now he buys part ownership in the L.A. Dodgers? Yeah, neither of those were terrible decisions...

Evil Vito 03-31-2012 03:51 PM

Speaking of old guys making it back to the Major Leagues, 41 year old Miguel Batista was informed that he had made the Mets bullpen. I'm actually okay with that - he was good in his brief stint with the team last year. If he sucks, they'll have Pedro Beato and other guys to turn to.

Mike Baxter won the spot for the lefty outfielder off the bench, beating out Adam Loewen. I definitely saw Loewen getting the spot heading into camp, but Baxter definitely earned it. Plus he's a hometown kid and grew up a Mets fan so I can't help but want to root for him.

Sounds like the Mets roster is just about set. The only guys still fighting for a spot are Vinny Rottino and Daniel Herrera, but their status is entirely dependent on whether or not Andres Torres and Tim Byrdak respectively have to start on the DL.

Yeah its just another case of Lucchino trying to cause a potential problem which he's done a lot of that ever since arriving as part of the ownership group. In terms of management, a lot more people hate him than they ever did with Theo, Francona, or the actual owner Henry.

He'll only be out 10-15 days. I wouldn't worry.

Yankees 2012 starting rotation:

CC Sabathia
Hiroki Kuroda
Phil Hughes
Ivan Nova
Freddy Garcia

Opening day can't come soon enough.

Tell that to the fans on the Yankees message board. Just some insane overreactions over there. The trade has already been deemed a failure by most and that "even if Pineda were healthy, he deserves to go to AAA". They're also calling for Cashman's head. They're coming across as spoiled brats.

ClockShot 03-31-2012 06:07 PM

I ain't concerned. When we aquired Pineda and Andy came back, everyone was saying "OH MY GOD, WE GOT EXCESS PITCHERS! WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO WITH STEADY FREDDY? LET'S TRADE ONE AND GET A BAT!"

Well, good thing we didn't because I would have been in panic mode right now.

My major concern is if Ibanez wakes the fuck up and starts mashing the damn ball.

Triple Naitch 03-31-2012 06:16 PM

Isn't Pineda throwing like -5 mph than he usually does?

Kuroda's gonna get shelled in the AL East...

I cant say too much about pitching though. The Os rotation is a mess..
Jake Arrieta
Wei-Yin Chen
Tommy Hunter
Jason Hammel
Brian Matusz/Tsuyoshi Wada

There isn't a solid #2 in that group, barely a bunch of 3-5's.

Dragon 03-31-2012 06:33 PM

I don't see why Kuroda would get shelled in the AL East. Its not like he's a junk baller. He's got a good fastball. Obviously he won't be putting up a low 3 ERA but I think he'll be solid.

Jose "Jumbo" Diaz, hes with the Pirates now (who the Os played a ST game today) he was with the Os. He's a pitcher..and he weighed 320 lbs..

I don't even think Ibanez is capable of mashing the ball right now, even at his top form. He just doesn't have the bat speed anymore.

Still don't see what Cashman saw in Ibanez that he thought he'd be the best option at DH.

He's lucky with the ground balls playing out in the NL west vs weak offensive teams. That 49% ground ball rate will come down.

road doggy dogg 04-01-2012 03:58 PM

If MLB 12 is anything to go by, Cabrera is gonna get like 180 RBIs this year. That sounds like a totally reasonable estimate. Go Tigers!

But really... pretty pumped for opening day.

You and me both Irving

ClockShot 04-01-2012 06:25 PM

Yankees played in the Marlins new stadium today. Top view, place looks like it's filled with water. Deep blue colored seat cushions, green barriers around the field. And that ugly home run statue thingy out in centerfield. Looks like it's straight out of little mermaid.

Don't like it.

Meta are close to locking up Jon Niese to a 5 year deal with options for 2017 and 2018.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-02-2012 12:36 PM

That's so Meta

Reds, Joey Votto Nearing Extension

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [April 2, 2012 at 11:40am CST]
Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols won't be the only first basemen to cash in with historic contracts this offseason. Joey Votto and the Reds are nearing an extension that will keep the first baseman in Cincinnati for a long time, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes and Ben Nicholson-Smith have learned. Dan Lozano of Icon Sports Group represents Votto.
Terms of the deal are not known, but it wouldn't be surprising if the total contract value surpasses $200MM. Votto will earn a total of $26.5MM through 2013 on the extension he signed last winter. I suggested in January that an additional $161MM could be enough to keep Votto in place long-term. Though not directly related, the Dodgers' sale price of $2.15 billion can't have hurt Votto's leverage.
Votto, the 2010 NL MVP, has evolved into one of the game's elite players since debuting in 2007. He followed up his MVP season with a .309/.416/.531 line, 29 homers and 40 doubles. The 28-year-old has been a seven win player each of the past two seasons, according to FanGraphs' version of wins above replacement.
Just four deals in MLB history have surpassed the $200MM mark. Prince Fielder, Alex Rodriguez (twice) and fellow Lozano client Albert Pujols make up the select group.
