No. I just give my opinions based on results from SquaredCircle and YouTube clips.

My gimmick is I base judgement on a wrestler's bad assery on their character portrayal, unless there happens to be video evidence of the guy being so inept that he could not even defend himself from getting tickled, then I have a hard time believing he is a bad ass and the best at fighting. SILLY!

No more will we see a bunch of wrestlers putting their hands in their pockets at the wrong times during their matches!

All of the more ridiculous moves are supposed to be approved by a coach. So, they run to Fire Ant, who will rubber stamp whatever stupid shit they want to do.

I bet the Billy Gunn shoot promo will be fun.

I’m sure Kenny Omega has worked a match that featured tickling in Japan.

Mr. Nerfect 07-24-2023 05:21 PM

AEW makes Orange Cassidy an agent, turns back Bret as one. Classic AEW.

Even funnier was that they wanted him to be a manager like Arn, Tully, and Jake...cuz any of those examples worked out so well.

I love Bret but he is AWFUL on camera nowadays. And part of that is because he obviously doesn't want to be on camera unless he can wrestle. He'd serve far better as a road agent or coach.

Ol Dirty Dastard 07-25-2023 07:54 AM

anyways, just posting this because I know a few people here will have temper tantrums about it:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">AEW needs just over 10,000 tickets sold to break the record for highest paid attendance in pro wrestling history. Incredible. <a href="https://t.co/6V59U2TQ45">pic.twitter.com/6V59U2TQ45</a></p>&mdash; Wrestling News (@WrestlingNewsCo) <a href="https://twitter.com/WrestlingNewsCo/status/1683570794016788480?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 24, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

xrodmuc316 07-25-2023 08:59 PM

Didn't Wrestlemania 39 just sell like 135,000 tickets?

Quote:

“The gate was $21.6 million, which would be $10.8 million per night, up from $8.5 million per night last year. The single event record remains $17.3 million at AT&T Stadium in 2016.”
- Dave Meltzer, who surely would estimate down for WWE before estimating up.

I wouldn't say that pointing out a spinjob is the same thing as throwing a tantrum, but I know a few people hate anything but fresh roses for AEW, be so be it.

GD 07-25-2023 10:36 PM

I hope they step up their graphics and set design output. They're both incredibly busy.

Never mind the goal of wrestling and which venues were targeted, unless your argument is that wrestling is more popular than ever, or even just that AEW is more popular than WWE now, you know this sort of trivia is just mental gymnastics.

It’s like Dave Meltzer’s old talking point of AEW doing better on PPV than anyone since WCW. It was only true if you compared AEW’s international buys across all media platforms against ECW’s US terrestrial PPV buys.

Call this a tantrum all you want.

Not sure what you’re trying to say here. You’ve mentioned 135,000 tickets then quoted stuff about the gate. Aren’t the figures for WM39 combined for both nights?

Please clarify.

The line from the Tweet "the highest paid attendance".

1. The highest paid attendance implies money, not number of tickets.
2. Wrestlemania 32 made $17.6 million
3. Nowhere do they make the claim that the same event has to be a single day.
4. Wrestlemania 39 sold an average of 67,500 on consecutive days.
5. Wrestlemania 39 made an average of $10.8 million on consecutive days.

Skewing and framing numbers to focus on a limited interpretation in order to self celebrate is always going to come off lame to me, not "incredible".

I always liked that brag!

"This is the highest non WWE wrestling PPV since WCW!"

NO SHIT.

Oof

Sepholio 07-28-2023 04:28 AM

Yeah, that's a wrong take. Highest paid attendance clearly refers to the most tickets paid for for a single event. Highest grossing would be the most money, right?

XL 07-28-2023 01:13 PM

Yep.

1. Doesn’t imply that at all. See what Seph said.
2. They haven’t claimed highest gross
3. Surely it’s implicit? Why woud you compare a multi-day event to a single event? AEW could just run a week long festival with shows on each night and add all the attendances together. This shouldn’t need clearing up.
4. Well this seems completely irrelevant as it’s not even the Mania that sold the most tickets for a single show. But this goes back to your misunderstanding. See point 1.
5. Again, irrelevant to the claim.

Gonna give the benefit of the doubt that you’ve just misunderstood what the terms mean rather than another example of you tripping over yourself to be negative about AEW.

Enjoy that Cumdorx was so easily triggered when I basically said, "I'm doing this to trigger Cumdorx."

I love how you can just share a stupid "fact", and then just say "well I told you that you are just triggered." What exactly do you think the point of a discussion board is anyways? Post something on a discussion board, but then you don't want anybody to discuss it? My fault, clearly misunderstood the purpose of this place

This shit is wicked annoying though. We’ll really still leaning on them being a new company? You look at that poster and see a bunch of names in wrestling that have been around for basically the entire 21st century. Also, “nobody” thought they would make it 6 months? You had them claiming they would “change the world.” Dave Meltzer has always championed them as the “winners,” whatever happens. Fanboys talking about how they’re going to kick WWE’s ass. Hell, most critics have said that the Khans have enough money to keep even a disaster running for as long as they want. A very liberal use of the word “shattered” too.

It’s this whole changing of history. As I said earlier, unless your claim is that the business is healthier — or that AEW could possibly challenge WWE head-to-head — then this “achievement” is basically trivia. I put achievement in quotation marks because everyone knows they struck a starved market with a stunt show. It’s sold largely because it’s wrestling in Wembley Stadium. Does anyone doubt that WWF or WCW could have hit something there that did better? Of course not. But wrestling is so hollow right now that doing this to basically put spin on how effective your company isn’t becomes a prerogative and everyone loses their minds exaggerating its significance.

Mr. Nerfect 07-31-2023 12:36 PM

There’s something to be said for wanting to turn people away at the door, so you can hit markets again and again, reliably. Being an actual ongoing hot ticket. There have been cases, historically, where running a stadium to prove you can has been called out as a weird business decision (Rumble ‘97 comes to mind). And what do you think those Collision in Korea shows were?

Also, lol at “New Japan shows in North Korea.”

xrodmuc316 07-31-2023 01:34 PM

Old Dirty went to the AEW Show and smelled like a piece of shit.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The body odor in this arena tonight is putrid.</p>&mdash; Alicia Atout (@AliciaAtout) <a href="https://twitter.com/AliciaAtout/status/1685443420859568128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 30, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

He also cannot deny this claim, defend himself, or even respond because this is just to trigger him, because he is a smelly ass shithead. I cant wait for this to trigger him, then I can say he is a triggered bitch. Also if he can't type because he is unable to contain his seething, he will be silently in shambles. SO GOOD!!!
