From a "legacy" standpoint you have the Seahawks looking to be the first team to repeat in a decade, and Brady/Belichick chasing their seemingly elusive 4th ring. If the Pats win though the general public is still going to say that there's an asterisk over their entire "regime" since 2001 which is a bit daft as they're clearly a very good team and would be even without unnecessary cheating and the like.

Maybe to the die hard sport fans that will be true. But in the ESPN/NFL/Regular fan world it will not tarnish it anymore than Ray Rice killing people or Big Ben raping women. It will be BARELY be mentioned, if even at all, the entire week after the Patriots (Assuming they win) the Superbowl. The entire Deflategate will be forgotten, partially due to the Colts getting their ass handed to them during the game, and Spygate is rarely, if ever, mentioned as it is.

poopfromweiner dude 01-30-2015 06:05 PM

If the pats lose thank god they got busted #spygate 2007 otherwise they would have won st least 3 or 4 more super bowls since then

road doggy dogg 01-30-2015 07:05 PM

what

Ruien 01-30-2015 08:11 PM

Think he means if they would have never been busted for spying on the Jets defense they would have won 3 to 4 more super bowls.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-30-2015 09:09 PM

Bullshit. They almost went perfect the year they got busted for Spygate as a fuck you to the league.

OssMan 01-30-2015 10:50 PM

Ya but they lost to the N.Y. Giants

Nark Order 01-31-2015 12:32 AM

And Eli Manning might be a legitimately retarded person. Well. Savant is probably more accurate.

Emperor Smeat 01-31-2015 12:48 AM

Not sure if this one has an official "-gate" status but going to call this one Ticketgate for now.

Hundreds of people who thought they bought Super Bowl tickets found out recently they were likely scammed or lost out on the tickets due to several scalper-like sites reneging on the deals done.

Quote:

Hundreds of fans won't be going to Super Bowl XLIX after brokers and resale sites reneged on tickets that they already sold.

In most cases, those selling tickets never had them to begin with. The practice, called short selling, has become common for big games over the years. Brokers sell tickets and buy them cheaper closer to the event to make their profits. But the idea of selling before having anything in hand became more commonplace as the returns consistently came in for previous Super Bowls.

That was until this year, when too many brokers sold tickets they didn't have and for lower prices than in previous years, making it impossible to get the real ticket for a price that was affordable when it came time to pull the trigger. By last Sunday, brokers were buying the worst seats for $5,000 just to save their company. Five days later, finding a ticket even for $10,000 was a challenge.

Heyman 01-31-2015 04:14 AM

I agree with RDD.

If the Pats get that 4th Super Bowl ring, I don't think there will be any *asterisk* whatsoever.

Having said that, this is a golden opportunity for both the Seahawks and Russell Wilson. After having gone up against Peyton Manning last year, they now go up against Tom Brady; two living legends.

Playing against both Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in a Super Bowl is an achievement and an honor in itself.

If I'm Russell Wilson, I'm thinking that there is no greater honor in having won back-to-back Super Bowl's, with both Peyton Manning and Tom Brady passing you that torch.

Ruien 01-31-2015 08:47 AM

I don't look at it as Wilson beating them as much as it's the defense winning the games. Just like how Eli's first Super Bowl win is looked at.

Triple A 01-31-2015 09:36 AM

I hate to agree, but I agree. Gronk seems like someone I could hang out with and play video games.

Evil Vito 01-31-2015 01:25 PM

Yeah Gronk is almost impossible to dislike. He's a complete meathead who was pretty much born to play football and make a shitload of money doing it. I can't see him doing anything after his career is over except partying and fucking strippers. There are certainly worse ways to live.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-31-2015 01:26 PM

Just got Madden for 24 bucks for XBone online. Gonna play the shit out of it until the Superbowl once it downloads. Whoooooo!

Corndad 01-31-2015 08:19 PM

Jerome Bettis into the Hall!

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-31-2015 08:23 PM

HONK HONK! ALL ABOARD THE BUS!

Evil Vito 01-31-2015 10:30 PM

Good HOF class. I thought Kurt Warner or Orlando Pace might have gotten in on their first ballot but Tim Brown and Jerome Bettis were definitely due from the offensive side.

Pace will probably go in next year. Warner will need to wait until 2017 as Favre is a lock for next year and they generally try to diversify positions.

screech 01-31-2015 11:53 PM

I was all excited to post "Holy Mosley!" in celebration, but CJ Mosley didn't win Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Guess I have to wait til next year to make Holy Mosley a thing. Dammit.

Nark Order 02-01-2015 02:53 AM

Big fan of Aaron Rodgers. Feel like Watt deserved MVP, but Aaron is a solid choice as as well.

Mosley will have a better career than Rogers and Mack

road doggy dogg 02-01-2015 02:19 PM

Someone explain to me how Bobby Wagner got an MVP vote lol

Requiem 02-01-2015 02:33 PM

Marvin Harrison should have been first-ballot. Totally snubbed for a guy who wasn't as good. It was totally a "He's been waiting a long time so let's put him in" instead of who actually deserved it more.

road doggy dogg 02-01-2015 02:40 PM

I kinda asked this elsewhere, but would that whole weird thing with Harrison's gun and all that shit have anything to do with it? What ever happened to that story?

Evil Vito 02-01-2015 04:12 PM

Harrison was never charged with anything IIRC. The gun that was confiscated from him was determined to not be a match in the shooting he was accused of.

I honestly don't think the accusations have anything to do with him not going in immediately. If accusations are enough to lose votes, then Ray Lewis shouldn't go in right away but I think we all know he will be headlining the class of 2018.

WR just seems to be a logjam and since they only allow 7 or 8 entrants per year, they try to not let in two from the same position. Carter, Reed, and Brown had been waiting for longer and we haven't had a first-ballot WR since Rice.

My best guess is Harrison gets in either 2016 or 2017, with T.O. going in whatever year Harrison doesn't. Moss in 2018.

road doggy dogg 02-01-2015 04:53 PM

Why wouldn't he vote for him as DPoY as well then?

Evil Vito 02-01-2015 05:19 PM

Cousin Sal's Annual Gary Russell Memorial Super Bowl Prop: Michael Hoomanawanui over 6.5 yards.

Not a bad choice really. He'd be like the 5th option on a 2 TE set play and probably the only one uncovered. Could see that happen a couple of times for 4-5 yards a pop.

It comes down to the whole "MVP is for the guy most valuable to his team and PoY is for the best player" thing. He might think JJ Watt was the best defensive player but you can't make a good case for his value to his team when he didn't help them make the playoffs.

I still think Bobby Wagner is kind of a ridiculous choice but Dungy just takes the "MVP" incredibly literal so he chose the guy who he thought was the most important player on a Super Bowl team.

RP 02-01-2015 05:50 PM

Edleman is one of the douchiest looking douches I've ever seen. I think I want Seattle to win more.

Wait Richard Sherman just talked again. Now I want New England.

RP 02-01-2015 06:05 PM

Rodney Harrison just changed his superbowl pick because he " saw Bill Belichek walking across the field and he looked serious " .

Now I'm rooting for the Seabirds again.

SlickyTrickyDamon 02-01-2015 10:10 PM

Greedy Wilson wanted to score it himself. You fucked up. You're a clock management QB.

Innovator 02-01-2015 10:12 PM

False flag, Seahawks collapse is an inside job

#1-norm-fan 02-01-2015 10:14 PM

For all the great things Pete Carroll has done... That was, without exaggeration, one of the worst play calls of all time. Holy shit. You hand it off to Lynch and trust him to gain a yard on 3 plays, you probably win the game. So let's let Russel Wilson throw it.

Evil Vito 02-01-2015 10:15 PM

The Seahawks better rip off the contract Seattle offered him and double it. Lynch has every right to feel insulted with that play call.

RP 02-01-2015 10:15 PM

Andy Reid snuck onto the field and called that play.

owenbrown 02-01-2015 10:19 PM

Wilson should have done a QB Sneak or something.... shitty call... but congrats to the Patriots.... now tell the media to collectively shove this win straight up their asses

The biggest play of the game was probably the late hit. 15 yards on a key drive.

#1-norm-fan 02-01-2015 11:05 PM

The biggest play of the game was when Pete Carroll went full retard.

Evil Vito 02-01-2015 11:13 PM

Can't even imagine what Seattle fans are going through right now. The Giants were on the goal line against the Pats three years ago and Belichick let them score. If they had gotten picked off on a dumb call like Wilson did tonight I probably wouldn't have slept that night.

Although them having won it last year probably takes away some of the pain.

#1-norm-fan 02-01-2015 11:14 PM

Congrats to Clerk though for his team winning the big one. He's a true fan.

Evil Vito 02-01-2015 11:27 PM

Good news for fans of other NFC teams: Lynch could still walk, Quinn will almost certainly leave for Atlanta as the job has been held open for him, and Wilson is probably going to get like a $20M per year extension eating up a ton of cap space.

I won't say Seattle's SB window is closed, but it will be a LOT harder for them to get back next year.

Evil Vito 02-01-2015 11:36 PM

Patriots 2015 home schedule: Buffalo, Miami, NY Jets, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Philadelphia, Washington, Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh for the 2015 Thursday Night opener seems like a decent bet. I don't think they'd do AFC vs. NFC to start the season and not totally sure they'll go all in on Rex Ryan's Bills in a season opener.
