Cal Ripken Jr. stated he'd be interested in being the manager for the Nationals if given the chance. Nationals teasing they want someone with actual MLB level experience as a manager though.

Damian Rey 10-10-2015 05:06 PM

Ripken has no business managing. What credentials other than playing career would he bring?

I think Bud Black is going to get the nod. No reason other than he's considered a "good baseball man", and is much more player friendly than hard ass Williams.

I'm going the Padres hire someone who understands and embraces analytics. Which means no thanks to arm assassin Dusty Baker or Ron Washington.

Chase Utley with one of the dirtiest plays I've ever seen. Fucking horseshit to not get an interference call there.

Evil Vito 10-10-2015 11:57 PM

holy hell the umpiring in this game is atrocious. they just single-handedly changed the complexion of this entire game and possibly even the series. ridiculous.

Evil Vito 10-11-2015 12:44 AM

Ruben Tejada broken fibula thanks to massive cunt Chase Utley.

I'm not going to lie...I've had nothing but resentment towards Tejada ever since he replaced Reyes. He's been one of my least favorite Mets over the last 4 years and it has baffled me how he has wound up getting the lion's share of the playing time at SS every year when his fielding his overrated, his bat is weak, and his speed is non-existent.

And yet I'm not sure there's been a Met injury that I've felt worse about. He didn't deserve to have his leg shattered by a guy who decided to go 7 feet out of the baseline just to take him out.

Evil Vito 10-11-2015 12:58 AM

Oh well. Realistically most Mets fans went into this series not thinking going 2-0 vs. Kershaw and Greinke was possible and that 1-1 was the most likely outcome, and that's what they got.

Frustrating to know that they could and possibly even SHOULD be 2-0 right now, but that's the hand they were dealt with that Utley crap. Hope they can rebound with a win on Monday. It's put up or shut up time for Harvey.

The dirtiest "slide", if that's what you want to call it, I've ever seen. How in God's name Utley wasn't ejected and subsequently suspended for purposely seeking to harm or maim another player whose absolutely defenseless is beyond me.

I know Collins is known for otherwise, Vito, and I'm not for plunking guys, but I'd be stunned of Harvey didn't pump one into Utley's ribs Monday, or someone purposely creams him on the base paths.

Jesus Christ at Tejada taking that. Just brutal.

Ted Williams (273-364)
Paul Molitor(83-79 with twins this year)
Ryan Sandberg (119-159 with phillies)

Frank Robinson started coaching as a player/manager before in a HOF so won't count him.

Those were the only 3 ever hired as managers after they were in the Hall of Fame as players so...the bar is set pretty low..

I have my doubts about the Mets retaliating on Monday, given that Utley typically doesn't pinch hit until late in the game. Allowing a baserunner in a playoff game just doesn't seem like something Collins will do unless it was a blowout.

They might get some retribution in 2016 though. Utley would be well advised to not sign with a team that is not scheduled to play the Mets next year.

screech 10-11-2015 11:34 AM

Mind boggling that Utley started his slide AT the bag. I get that you want to break up the double play, but holy shit at least make it look like you aren't trying to kill the poor guy at short.

Glad for the Jays. They deserved to win one. Hope that series goes 5, it could be quite fun.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-12-2015 12:48 AM

Texas doesn't seem like they are fond of the off speed stuff, which could mean good things for Dickey. The Jays taking 3 in a row from Texas is not out of the realm of possibility with such a great team... it's just so hard in such a high pressure situation with how good the Rangers are playing. Hopefully Odor makes 7 errors and gets caught stealing 3 times.

Utley has appealed and apparently MLB isn't going to review the appeal today, so that means he will play tonight.

Dodgers dropped Utley and Corey Seager as possible starters for today. Utley probably because they know he'd get plunked or a possible revenge slide against him first chance given. Seager's out probably in case Mets still wanted a revenge slide done.

Collins has already said there will be no retaliation in any form. The game is too important to give away outs. I agree with him, as much as I'd love to see Utley get drilled.

At least there was a massive UTLEY SUCKS chant as the Dodgers lined up along the third base line. And as they were going down the line introducing each player they kept the camera on him for like 10 seconds just to allow the boos to sink in.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-12-2015 08:44 PM

I can't stand Toronto fans. The amount of whinging and belly aching 0-2 down and the amount of excuses cued up was just pathetic. "The Blue Jays packed it up as soon as they clinched, the umpires are cheating, this series is over wah wah wah" and then this retarded nonsense about Harold Reynolds "insulting" Canadians with like the least offensive comment ever. Seriously, they are so dumb.

Only beef I have in the series is the terrible start times, and I will never understand how Odor was safe on the VIDEO REVIEW where you clearly see his foot off the bag. That will never make sense to me. But the Jays got out duked in that game, and had plenty of chances to win. But that call will forever piss me off, particularly if the Jays go on to lose on Wednesday.

Evil Vito 10-13-2015 12:39 AM

lol jesus, Erik Goeddel probably pitched his way off the NLCS roster if the Mets advance. 9 run lead in the 9th, they bring in Goeddel (their "low man on the totem pole" in the bullpen) and he gives up 3 runs without getting an out. Mets don't fuck around and end up using Familia to close it out rather than getting him a night off.

Oh well. If that's the only thing that went wrong you know it was a really good night. 2-1

McLegend 10-13-2015 05:37 AM

I didn't see anything after the 4th inning, and I'm still unsure if Chase was suspended or not last night. However if he wasn't suspended and Don Mattingly didn't play him that is a bitch move. It just shows that The Dodgers are scared should have played Utley the first chance they got.

Evil Vito 10-13-2015 07:18 AM

Utley is appealing so per league rules he's allowed to play while the appeal process is going on.

I imagine the league will try to hear the appeal today. Funny thing is if the suspension is upheld and the Mets win tonight, Utley would probably then need to sit out Opening Day next year for whatever team he signs with in the offseason.

Royals/Astros and Jays/Rangers are essentially down to a one game play-in, where anything can happen. Mets have to face Kershaw tonight (his playoff history aside, he's clearly going to be better than Brett Anderson) and I can never rule out the damn Cardinals no matter what.

Cubs one step closer to fulfilling the Back to the Future prophecy. Marlins just bidding their time to strike with a well timed run-in attack on some team before the World Series.

Damian Rey 10-13-2015 08:18 PM

The Marlins are going to do a run in on the deciding Dodgers Mets game, with Stanton pulling an HBK and super kicking Cespedes or Utley before signing the NLCS contract.

It's a tough call on who would be a tougher matchup for the Cubs. The Mets have a more complete, potent lineup than the Dodgers but many of their hitters are also ridiculously streaky.

They also have 4 strong in the rotation whereas the Dodgers have the 1-2 punch of Kershaw and Greinke and nothing behind them. But seeing how good Kershaw looked on 3 day's rest I'd say it's now likely that a potential NLCS would involve seeing Kershaw 3 times and Greinke twice. But if you just win the 2 Brett Anderson starts all you need to do is take 2 of the remaining 5. Overall it might be a wash.

And the bullpens for both teams are pretty bad, too.

While the Mets and Cubs have sucked over the last couple of years Wadding and I would joke about the feasibility of merging the Mets' young pitching with the Cubs' young hitting to form a super team. Would be so cool to see a NLCS between those two teams after that.

Evil Vito 10-14-2015 08:41 AM

I don't feel that bummed about last night's loss, really. Kershaw is the best pitcher in baseball for a reason. Beating him twice in less than a week is a tall order for any team.

Of course, going into LA to try to beat arguably the 2nd best pitcher in baseball is a big ask, too. But at least the Mets have deGrom going. Hopefully 2015 Mets baseball will continue into the weekend but a one-game playoff is basically a coin flip. No matter what happens it won't damper the kind of year it's been. I know people on here give me shit for being negative but the reality is I've had more fun watching this Mets team than I have in ages. It's been worth the wait.
