How are the Fifa world rankings compiled? They are always mentioned here like they are very telling, but the US obviously isn't the eighth best nation in the world. It seems like whenever we play out of Concacaf we lose.

They give teams points for results and take into account stuff like goals scored, whether you were home or away or whatever. They're interesting to look at, if only to laugh at some of the backwater countries that are higher ranked than Scotland ;) But they don't really mean anything at all. With the teams like USA being ahead of the likes of Italy.</font> |
