Cliff Lee had one great year. Before that, nothing. Even this year he's been subpar. Guy was demoted to the minors in 2007. (i think it was 07)

Lee does not = Halladay. Thank the Lord Halladay is still a Jay (for now :'( )

ClockShot 07-29-2009 10:20 PM

Yankees aquire Jason Hirsh from the Rockies. No idea who we sent to the Rockies at the moment.

We also release Brett Tomko.

Triple Naitch 07-29-2009 10:22 PM

More than just one good year. He won 18 games in 2005. He had a strained abdomen in '07 which caused him to fall off.

Triple Naitch 07-29-2009 10:23 PM

Not to mention he has a 3.14 era for an awful team this year.

YOUR Hero 07-29-2009 10:28 PM

Actually yeah, I looked up a bit of him after that post and he done a few better things than I recalled.

OssMan 07-29-2009 11:43 PM

How would the team you are playing for affect your ERA

Triple Naitch 07-29-2009 11:46 PM

I have an explanation for this.

Triple Naitch 07-29-2009 11:47 PM

If your team is not hitting, then you are spending less time on the bench resting between innings. Your recovery time is delayed, causing you to go back out to throw when you are not ready.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-30-2009 12:58 AM

Red Sox 3.5 back now, wonder if they gonna pull the trigger on Halladay? I just can't see the Jays trading him within the division even for the "right price"

YOUR Hero 07-30-2009 01:51 AM

Trade Halladay AND Wells. Get back Ellsbury, Pedroia, Bucholz, 90 prospects and a billion dollars.

BALTIMORE (AP)—The Kansas City Royals played an entire game without an assist, a rarity in the big leagues.
Far more commonplace is Royals ace Zach Greinke pitching well and not having a win to show for it, which is exactly what occurred for the fifth time this month in Baltimore’s 7-3 victory Wednesday night.
The last team to go a game without an assist was Tampa Bay on May 17, 2003, also in a loss—eight innings in the field—to Baltimore, according to STATS LLC. Only five teams in major league history have done it for at least nine innings in the field.
The Orioles hit only two grounders, both of which were handled by first baseman Billy Butler(notes) before he touched the bag himself.
The sad thing is I didnt even notice that such a rare event happened, as it was a terribly boring game.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-30-2009 04:36 AM

Who keeps track of this shit? Wow? And how do you get a job there?........

Nervous Ferret 07-30-2009 05:09 AM

SammyG 07-30-2009 05:41 AM

Jesus fucking Christ, 4 game losing streak.

SammyG 07-30-2009 05:42 AM

We can never beat the fucking Cardinals.

And if your team is hitting a lot, then you are spending too much time on the bench and have to find ways to stay loose. Sorry, I don't think they have anything to do with each other

RP 07-30-2009 09:13 AM

I cant believe the Phillies got Lee without giving any of there top prospects. If they really want to go for the killshot, do the deal with Toronto for Drebek and a few other good ones. They wont be beat.

One things for sure. If the Red Sox step in and steal Halladay, no one is beating them this year. Not with Beckett and Halladay opening games 1 and 2. Then totally getting mindfucked by a Wakefield start after facing those guys.

And you know the Sox are trying to swing a deal.

I wouldn't if I were you. Pitching doesn't really seem to be your problem. The Red Sox pitching is kinda like the Yankees pitching it's got some problems, but it's not the reason for this. Your problem is offense. So Instead of Halladay you should try to consider getting V-Mart or Adrian Gonzales instead. They are really gonna help you more if you ask me, because pitching is not the Red Sox problem.

Triple Naitch 07-30-2009 10:44 AM

Pitching has been a problem for the Sox. Penny and Smoltz have been awful. Wakefield is hurt, Dice-K is hurt and being a whiny bitch. Beckett and Lester have been the only consistent pitchers.

Still, though, I'd rather them use the prospects to get Gonzalez or Martinez due to them being able to control them for a longer period of time than Halladay.

If your Outfield is 3 slow old fuckers, they dont get to as many balls, therefore more hits and runs.

Now if your team has 3 gold glovers out there, you are going to give up far less runs. Its a Sabremetric stat. its legit.

Triple Naitch 07-30-2009 12:53 PM

Yeah, that too.

Good luck beating them or the Phillies in the playoffs

The Pope 07-30-2009 01:30 PM

Dodgers need Halladay i hope they don't get him.
Phillies will repeat unless one of their starters goes down

Pitching really wasn't a problem a week ago though. The staff has been good, and deep. Up until this week many considered it the best staff in baseball.

I agree that it's shaky right now though. Everything has been a problem in the past 2 weeks.
Red Sox need a kick in the ass right now, because they're a better team than this.

The next 2 weeks are huge. Series against the Yanks, Rays, and Rangers, who are all compettitors for a playoff berth.
Series with the Tigers too, which isn't a playoff rival but a damn good team.

I disagree. I think they'll make the NLCS. I think the Cardinals have a shot at beating the Phillies. They might be a better team.

Either way, I don't think the Phillies will repeat since I don't see them beating the AL Champions again.

Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz are the latest two names to test positive in 2003. Just release the fucking list already.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

The Miz 07-30-2009 02:31 PM

Are you trying to tell me that David "Big Clutchi" Ortiz is/was a steroid user? NO WAY.

The Miz 07-30-2009 02:31 PM

;)

Jeritron 07-30-2009 02:31 PM

It upsets me a lot, but I find it funny that the yankees fans would have shit to say considering the heart of their lineup was Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez, Gary Sheffield and their ace was Roger Clemens

Yeah but it knocks the all mighty Red Sox down a couple pegs

Jeritron 07-30-2009 02:36 PM

Well, I'm not gonna get in an argument about Sox vs Yanks with you. It just saddens me, and not just as a Red Sox fan but as a baseball fan.
I even admitted as much when A Rod's name came out. It's just sad for the game. I wouldn't expect Yankees fans to be that reasonable though. They're loudmouths who don't even like the game that much (not directed at you Inno)

Innovator 07-30-2009 02:38 PM

Every team has those fans, not just Yankee fans. Hell, Mets fans are worse.

Torii Hunter didn't know? REALLY?

Innovator 07-30-2009 02:42 PM

Since Red Sox fans gave A-Rod the steroid chant, I hope Ortiz receives nothing less next week

Loose Cannon 07-30-2009 02:53 PM

wow.

Loose Cannon 07-30-2009 02:56 PM

Tori Hunter? What are you referring to Inno? was his name on the list too?
