Shit, yeah. Forgot about the lack of whammy bar. Can live with the frets, but that's kinda lame if someone else wants a go.
|
Getting the Mustang for Christmas confirmed. Did have to repeatedly tell my mum that I didn't want Kinnect no matter how fun it looks, though. Good Job I said what I wanted.
|
I'm waiting for someone I know to get Kinect so I can try it in my apartment.
The Mustang is something I'd rather have too. |
Worst thing is, she was gonna get one for my little brother too and he only has a PS3. She thought at £160, it had to be it's own console.

Have had the same thing happen a bunch of times. |
To be fair, it's almost the price of a Wii.
Not that they shouldn't do their research first and shit, but still. The thing that pisses me off about that is that they cut technology out of it and are selling it at a profit. I'm fine with trying to make a profit, but there's a reason non-Nintendo consoles are sold at a loss. You want market saturation so you make money on licensing. As a result, it's comparable in price to a full console (Wii, 360 Arcade or whatever it's called now). |
What's the crack with missing dlc/RB1/RB2 songs? I'm missing bout 20 songs overall.
|
Do you know which songs?
I was told Orange Crush didn't transfer, but I have it in my DLC list. |
So they sent my Mustang to the wrong address.
Gonna have it held at a Fed Ex location and will have to drive 50 miles Friday to pick it up. It had better be fucking worth it. |

I tried to email them before and after they shipped it with no response. They don't have a phone number.
|
Only DLC tracks from Week 96 should be missing. If anything else is, redownload.

Been trying to get a complete list, but I know some Tenacious D tracks were released that week. They are coming back, they apparently just have some issues.

Poor sales of this game have led to MTV selling Harmonix. No idea how this is gonna play out, but this sucks.
|
I would expect DLC to slow waaaay down.
|
Harmonix are saying that there's lots in the pipeline that can't be stopped at least. Scariest thing reading the reports is that they've never turned a profit since Viacom bought them.
Only 3 companies that can really afford and be willing to take the gamble: EA, MS and Activision and if Harmonix have a say, it won't be Activision. Rockstar and Ubi dark horses. My money is on MS, but I'd worry what would happen to other consoles DLC. |
Apple's been said to have expressed interest. Also, I seriously doubt Harmonix has never turned a profit, considering the reports of value off DLC.
|
The Bloomberg article made it sound like they had never turned a profit, but reading links on NeoGAF (while ignoring the rhetoric, natch) makes it seem like they haven't since Beatles came out.
But MTV Games took in all the instrument manufacture and distribution for that game onwards which EA were handling before that (at least in Europe). |
Here we go http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118027323
Lost $65 million this quarter. Ouch. Apple would be... Interesting. Probably be bought to make iPhone mini-games though. |
It ain't my fault they released it on the same day as Fable 3 and TFU2 (and to a lesser extent, SVR2011). I could only afford a few at a time. Plus, I think Guitar Hero has done everything in its power to kill the popularity and reduce it to fad status.
|
It's not just that (and lol at picking TFU2 over this... Ouch), but I think they gave up on it after thinking Beatles would sell millions. I love the Beatles, but there isn't a massive crossover between massive Beatles fans who would spend hundreds on the kit and video game players. I've not seen a single ad for RB3 over here at all.
|
I picked up F3 and SVR2011 and didn't actually get TFU2, though I would have over this. It's not to do with the game, it's just that my current place is small and not conducive to having a rock band party, despite having an entire kit. Add my crazy work schedule to that, the people I played most with living in other cities now and my other friends being all over different parts of town and it gets difficult to make happen.
|
Then by all means, continue hurting Harmonix.
But seriously, I see your dilemma. I've got this guitar coming and have no fucking clue where it'll live. |
I have 4 guitars, 3 microphones and a drum kit. Keyboard coming soon.

That much I can believe, I just don't know entirely why. I suppose part of it hinges on the lack of titles. Plus, how did Green Day do? |
Much rather would have had Queen than Green Day, tbh. When did negotiations fall apart? Also, the DLC choices have been pretty gay for most of the year.
|
This is scary. And right after I buy the pro guitar. Hope they bring some more good pro DLC.

I doubt negotiations fell through. Brian May said they would like to do it, but I don't think there was ever anything concrete. Plus, they're obviously still are willing to provide tracks. Quote:
I doubt Harmonix is dead, one way or another. |

Beatles was respectable, but not amazing, especially when you consider how much they probably spent in licensing and manufacturing. |
Just looked into the figures further, and the RB2 sales don't include Europe whereas Beatles and Green Day do.
|
I guess a lot of people don't like that horrid pop punk vocal style they introduced us to. That and their general shitness.
|
I love Green Day until Minority on, but even then select tracks. If they went back older, would have been all over it, but unlocking old tracks is a pain.
|
I figured Guitar Hero would be in trouble before Rock Band would. :(
Maybe Activision will buy it and all GH and RB DLC will be compatible with each other! lol |

I honestly don't think Activision care that much, thinking that even a franchise run into the ground can come back.
See: Tony Hawk. Hell, even with a peripheral that barely works, they push the hell out of the new ones. |
GH6 all formats and including Europe: 0.6m
Rock Band 3 all formats including Europe: 0.31m (Wii version only has 0.03m sales...) Obviously, RB3 has only had 2 weeks, but it's pretty safe to say that the genre has shit the bed. |
Got my Mustang! 3 hour round trip to pick it up. Now to try it out...

The Mustang plays pretty good. But holy shit it will take some getting used too. Beat a few songs on easy. It will take a while even to step up to medium. Pretty fun learning it tho.
|
Do you already play an instrument?
Just wondering how someone who can already play an electric guitar will take to this. Granted, I mostly play power chords, but still, I'm not fresh off the turnip truck. |

Beat a couple of the harder songs on easy before I went to bed last night. I couldn't find some of the higher notes right away but I eventually found them without looking at my hand. And this is after only 1 day.

omg that Bon Jovi DLC. Gonna need the hairspray and headband out for that. If I ever actually get round to buying it.

I've never been able to do that before. I always have to look at the keys on my keyboard to position my fingers for chord changes. |
Holy fuck balls B.B. King. Definitely getting that.
Need some Muddy Waters. Also, I fondly remember the days when I would get at least a couple songs every week. Last thing I got was Bob Marley, and before that, I can't even remember what I got, it was so long ago. |

Ok, so this is old news since it's been out so long, but if you havn't downloade The Complexity of Light by Children of Nova, off of RBN, then get off your fucking ass. Best song there.

Anyone else annoyed by the "Random '10" and custom setlists?
Since I only have like four songs from 2010.... I've done all the road challenges already, but my friends haven't. |
Quick question: The pro add-on is for bass and geetar only, right? As in, I don't have to pay for pro keys?
Or drums for that matter? I just want to know what I'm getting into. |
I thought if you brough a pro track, you got all the pro bits that are available for that song. Could be wrong, would be pretty stupid though if you had to buy each bit.
|
If a song supports keyboards or pro drums, they're included in the standard price songs. Only guitar/bass have a premium.

Quote:
You don't have to buy each bit, but there is a "99 cent" expansion them. I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to buy it for access to the keys tracks. I'm not even sure why we have to pay to add pro guitars (Harmonix may have explained this, but I've never cared enough to look), but you certainly do. Good to know, anyway. |
Quote:
On a side note, since pro drums only seems to change the cymbal/pad paradigm, I'd be pissed if they charged extra. Keys I could see, but drums:? Fuck that. |
Did they lower the Gold Star threshold again?
|
Yeah I got a 100% on hard vocals and still didn't get gold.
|
Glad I got the pro guitar when I did. They seem to be sold out everywhere. Even on the net.
|
Maybe this will make them rethink selling Harmonix.
|
Not really. The guitars are manufactured in limited numbers by Mad Katz.
Sales of the game are still at 0.35m worldwide. |

A lot of my friends only play on Medium, so I don't get band Gold Stars often. I do like the fact I can get a Gold Star rating when playing with others, though, even if they don't max out their score or play on Expert. Quote:

However, I saw on the escapist an analyst report that the October market was "dismal." Once I saw it wasn't Patcher, I looked at it, and despite a couple of games doing really well, it seemed there was a sharp drop-off in sales. The problem probably isn't the fake instrument genre. I'm pretty sure the oversaturation of the market, and Green Day: Cocksucker didn't help HMX any, but there's clearly more afoot here. |
Also, I am waiting to see what's reported in NPD. I've never been a big fan og VGChartz, where I'm assuming Hasney got the numbers. Even with NPD, I'm skeptical, but I'll take them over VGChartz.
NPD leaves out certain major retailers (I believe Wal-Mart is one) and VGChartz periodically pulls figures out of its ass. It's probably 6:1, half dozen to the other, but still. |
I don't remember there being as many awesome games coming out on, or around the same week as Rockband 1 & 2. That, combined with the current economy could definitely be reasons why it did poorer than it's predecessors.

You don't have to personally desire a game, to tell that a lot of other people are going to want it. We are saying that a lot of highly anticipated games came out around that time, that forced people to make the decision not to get rockband 3. And there are still a lot people out there who havn't recovered from the state of the economy and can't buy games whenever they want. Don't know what is so "ridiculous" about all that. |
Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 30):
.38 Special – “Hold On Loosely” X Bad Company – “Can’t Get Enough” X Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Saturday Night Special” X Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Sweet Home Alabama (Live)” X Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Tuesday’s Gone” Lynyrd Skynyrd – “What’s Your Name?” X (All tracks are original master recordings) Why can't they have the studio version of Sweet Home? |
Because the Live version is better?

No, it's not.
