Shit, yeah. Forgot about the lack of whammy bar. Can live with the frets, but that's kinda lame if someone else wants a go.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-07-2010 03:25 PM

Getting the Mustang for Christmas confirmed. Did have to repeatedly tell my mum that I didn't want Kinnect no matter how fun it looks, though. Good Job I said what I wanted.

Kane Knight 11-07-2010 03:34 PM

I'm waiting for someone I know to get Kinect so I can try it in my apartment.

The Mustang is something I'd rather have too.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-07-2010 03:44 PM

Worst thing is, she was gonna get one for my little brother too and he only has a PS3. She thought at £160, it had to be it's own console.

lol old people

Have had the same thing happen a bunch of times.

Kane Knight 11-08-2010 12:55 PM

To be fair, it's almost the price of a Wii.

Not that they shouldn't do their research first and shit, but still.

The thing that pisses me off about that is that they cut technology out of it and are selling it at a profit. I'm fine with trying to make a profit, but there's a reason non-Nintendo consoles are sold at a loss. You want market saturation so you make money on licensing. As a result, it's comparable in price to a full console (Wii, 360 Arcade or whatever it's called now).

Matt Gingarac 11-08-2010 05:33 PM

What's the crack with missing dlc/RB1/RB2 songs? I'm missing bout 20 songs overall.

Kane Knight 11-08-2010 06:26 PM

Do you know which songs?

I was told Orange Crush didn't transfer, but I have it in my DLC list.

D Mac 11-09-2010 02:36 PM

So they sent my Mustang to the wrong address.

Gonna have it held at a Fed Ex location and will have to drive 50 miles Friday to pick it up. It had better be fucking worth it.

That is bullshit. How are they not re-sending it to your house on their error?

D Mac 11-09-2010 02:48 PM

I tried to email them before and after they shipped it with no response. They don't have a phone number.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-09-2010 03:36 PM

Only DLC tracks from Week 96 should be missing. If anything else is, redownload.

Been trying to get a complete list, but I know some Tenacious D tracks were released that week. They are coming back, they apparently just have some issues.

Yes. You will have it earlier than someone who might never buy it.

Kane Knight 11-11-2010 03:55 PM

Poor sales of this game have led to MTV selling Harmonix. No idea how this is gonna play out, but this sucks.

Disturbed316 11-11-2010 03:57 PM

I would expect DLC to slow waaaay down.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2010 04:03 PM

Harmonix are saying that there's lots in the pipeline that can't be stopped at least. Scariest thing reading the reports is that they've never turned a profit since Viacom bought them.

Only 3 companies that can really afford and be willing to take the gamble: EA, MS and Activision and if Harmonix have a say, it won't be Activision.

Rockstar and Ubi dark horses. My money is on MS, but I'd worry what would happen to other consoles DLC.

Kane Knight 11-11-2010 04:13 PM

Apple's been said to have expressed interest. Also, I seriously doubt Harmonix has never turned a profit, considering the reports of value off DLC.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2010 04:22 PM

The Bloomberg article made it sound like they had never turned a profit, but reading links on NeoGAF (while ignoring the rhetoric, natch) makes it seem like they haven't since Beatles came out.

But MTV Games took in all the instrument manufacture and distribution for that game onwards which EA were handling before that (at least in Europe).

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2010 04:33 PM

Here we go http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118027323

Lost $65 million this quarter. Ouch.

Apple would be... Interesting. Probably be bought to make iPhone mini-games though.

Funky Fly 11-11-2010 04:36 PM

It ain't my fault they released it on the same day as Fable 3 and TFU2 (and to a lesser extent, SVR2011). I could only afford a few at a time. Plus, I think Guitar Hero has done everything in its power to kill the popularity and reduce it to fad status.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2010 04:45 PM

It's not just that (and lol at picking TFU2 over this... Ouch), but I think they gave up on it after thinking Beatles would sell millions. I love the Beatles, but there isn't a massive crossover between massive Beatles fans who would spend hundreds on the kit and video game players. I've not seen a single ad for RB3 over here at all.

Funky Fly 11-11-2010 04:51 PM

I picked up F3 and SVR2011 and didn't actually get TFU2, though I would have over this. It's not to do with the game, it's just that my current place is small and not conducive to having a rock band party, despite having an entire kit. Add my crazy work schedule to that, the people I played most with living in other cities now and my other friends being all over different parts of town and it gets difficult to make happen.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2010 04:53 PM

Then by all means, continue hurting Harmonix.

But seriously, I see your dilemma. I've got this guitar coming and have no fucking clue where it'll live.

Funky Fly 11-11-2010 05:17 PM

I have 4 guitars, 3 microphones and a drum kit. Keyboard coming soon.

As announced this morning, Viacom plans to sell Harmonix and have reclassified Harmonix to a discontinued operation. However, this announcement does not affect the ongoing work at the studio as they continue to support Rock Band and Dance Central. Viacom's decision to exit this business reflects our strategy of focusing entirely on what they do best: make great branded entertainment content and deliver it through a variety of platforms. Harmonix has and will continue to create terrific video games. But for us, it is about focus. Viacom is in discussions with several potential buyers and will continue to fully support the business until a sale is completed.

Yeah, they haven't been doing well of late. It's a little odd.

That much I can believe, I just don't know entirely why. I suppose part of it hinges on the lack of titles.

Plus, how did Green Day do?

Funky Fly 11-11-2010 10:43 PM

Much rather would have had Queen than Green Day, tbh. When did negotiations fall apart? Also, the DLC choices have been pretty gay for most of the year.

D Mac 11-12-2010 01:00 AM

This is scary. And right after I buy the pro guitar. Hope they bring some more good pro DLC.

Many of you have asked about DLC. To be clear, our earlier statement that we will continue to support our existing franchises holds true and work at the studio is not affected by this announcement. RB DLC will continue unabated. We’re excited to confirm that The BeeGees are our next DLC pack.

Some of you have been chiming in about our different partners and what this announcement means for [the Fender Squier/Mad Catz Hardware/EA Distribution]. Those partnerships are unaffected by this announcement with regards to existing titles.

Most importantly, the Rock Band and Dance Central will continue to be worked on at Harmonix for the foreseeable future. We’re not leaving them behind.
Bee Gees. Oh great. :(

Yeah, I haven't bought much DLC.

I doubt negotiations fell through. Brian May said they would like to do it, but I don't think there was ever anything concrete. Plus, they're obviously still are willing to provide tracks.

Plus, how did Green Day do?

All sales figures here are liftime to date.

Beatles Rock Band

360 1.06m
PS3 0.81m
Wii 1.33m

Total 3.2m

Green Day Rock Band

360 0.18m
PS3 0.15m
Wii 0.16m

Total 0.49m

Just as a comparison:

Rock Band 2 Sales

360 2.15m
PS3 0.99m
Wii 0.96m

Total 4.1m

Ouch, Green Day was a stinker. Beatles was respectable, but not amazing, especially when you consider how much they probably spent in licensing and manufacturing.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-12-2010 07:00 AM

Just looked into the figures further, and the RB2 sales don't include Europe whereas Beatles and Green Day do.

Funky Fly 11-12-2010 01:20 PM

I guess a lot of people don't like that horrid pop punk vocal style they introduced us to. That and their general shitness.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-12-2010 01:39 PM

I love Green Day until Minority on, but even then select tracks. If they went back older, would have been all over it, but unlocking old tracks is a pain.

D Mac 11-12-2010 02:39 PM

I figured Guitar Hero would be in trouble before Rock Band would. :(

Maybe Activision will buy it and all GH and RB DLC will be compatible with each other! lol

D Mac 11-12-2010 02:43 PM

Available on Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3 system (Nov. 16):

Bee Gees – “Jive Talkin’”
Bee Gees – “Night Fever”
Bee Gees – “Stayin’ Alive” X
Bee Gees – “Nights on Broadway”
Bee Gees – “Tragedy”
Bee Gees – “You Should Be Dancing”
B.B. King – “The Thrill Is Gone” X
Procol Harum – “A Whiter Shade of Pale”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

(These tracks will be available in Europe on PlayStation 3 system Nov. 17)

These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks, as well as “The Bee Gees Pack 01” on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 system and Wii. Tracks marked with “X” will include Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for $0.99 per song.

Activision is still milking the shit out of this. Doubt they're doing as well as RB was.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-12-2010 03:02 PM

I honestly don't think Activision care that much, thinking that even a franchise run into the ground can come back.

See: Tony Hawk. Hell, even with a peripheral that barely works, they push the hell out of the new ones.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-12-2010 03:11 PM

GH6 all formats and including Europe: 0.6m

Rock Band 3 all formats including Europe: 0.31m (Wii version only has 0.03m sales...)

Obviously, RB3 has only had 2 weeks, but it's pretty safe to say that the genre has shit the bed.

D Mac 11-12-2010 05:30 PM

Got my Mustang! 3 hour round trip to pick it up. Now to try it out...

And the BB King song.

Yeah, the major difference is support. Activision is more likely to continue their support because they will milk iterative products to death. Which is pretty much now.

After the last couple years, I'm not that surprised. The big problem here is with compatability ending for RB1 and 2, they need to move 3 to support future DLC.

Rock Band's model doesn't need iteritive games as bad as GH or other titles.

D Mac 11-12-2010 08:05 PM

The Mustang plays pretty good. But holy shit it will take some getting used too. Beat a few songs on easy. It will take a while even to step up to medium. Pretty fun learning it tho.

Kane Knight 11-12-2010 09:42 PM

Do you already play an instrument?

Just wondering how someone who can already play an electric guitar will take to this.

Granted, I mostly play power chords, but still, I'm not fresh off the turnip truck.

Beat a couple of the harder songs on easy before I went to bed last night. I couldn't find some of the higher notes right away but I eventually found them without looking at my hand. And this is after only 1 day.

The keys tutorial had me moving my hands in under two days, so I know what you mean.

I've never been able to do that before. I always have to look at the keys on my keyboard to position my fingers for chord changes.

Holy fuck balls B.B. King. Definitely getting that.

Need some Muddy Waters.

Also, I fondly remember the days when I would get at least a couple songs every week. Last thing I got was Bob Marley, and before that, I can't even remember what I got, it was so long ago.

Anyone else annoyed by the "Random '10" and custom setlists?

Since I only have like four songs from 2010....

I've done all the road challenges already, but my friends haven't.

Kane Knight 11-22-2010 02:01 PM

Quick question: The pro add-on is for bass and geetar only, right? As in, I don't have to pay for pro keys?

Or drums for that matter?

I just want to know what I'm getting into.

Disturbed316 11-22-2010 02:43 PM

I thought if you brough a pro track, you got all the pro bits that are available for that song. Could be wrong, would be pretty stupid though if you had to buy each bit.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-22-2010 02:50 PM

If a song supports keyboards or pro drums, they're included in the standard price songs. Only guitar/bass have a premium.

If you select a song with a pro guitar/bass part, it'll have an entry to buy the pro guitars expansion.

You don't have to buy each bit, but there is a "99 cent" expansion them.

I just wanted to make sure I didn't have to buy it for access to the keys tracks.

I'm not even sure why we have to pay to add pro guitars (Harmonix may have explained this, but I've never cared enough to look), but you certainly do.

Good to know, anyway.

On a side note, since pro drums only seems to change the cymbal/pad paradigm, I'd be pissed if they charged extra.

Keys I could see, but drums:? Fuck that.

Kane Knight 11-22-2010 10:04 PM

Did they lower the Gold Star threshold again?

You have to play Expert. The other thing is the threshold may be unchanged, but since you can now get a 50% OD bonus in SP from the "Band Unison" phrases, it could be that I'm getting GSes earlier because there's more overdrive to go around.

A lot of my friends only play on Medium, so I don't get band Gold Stars often. I do like the fact I can get a Gold Star rating when playing with others, though, even if they don't max out their score or play on Expert.

There's also an artificial demand since they came out like three weeks later.

However, I saw on the escapist an analyst report that the October market was "dismal." Once I saw it wasn't Patcher, I looked at it, and despite a couple of games doing really well, it seemed there was a sharp drop-off in sales.

The problem probably isn't the fake instrument genre. I'm pretty sure the oversaturation of the market, and Green Day: Cocksucker didn't help HMX any, but there's clearly more afoot here.

Also, I am waiting to see what's reported in NPD. I've never been a big fan og VGChartz, where I'm assuming Hasney got the numbers. Even with NPD, I'm skeptical, but I'll take them over VGChartz.

NPD leaves out certain major retailers (I believe Wal-Mart is one) and VGChartz periodically pulls figures out of its ass. It's probably 6:1, half dozen to the other, but still.

I don't remember there being as many awesome games coming out on, or around the same week as Rockband 1 & 2. That, combined with the current economy could definitely be reasons why it did poorer than it's predecessors.

True, if you compare games that are close there, it's pretty stupid, but you can usually tell if a game has bombed or been a massive success.

When's NPD stopping releasing sales numbers? I think that's pretty soon.

Nah, he has a point about there being too many games released at the same time. When Rock Band 2 dropped, I didn't give a shit about anything else that came out around the same time. RB1 was out before I had my box, so I dunno. RB3 had a bunch of other games come out same day.

As well as games a week before, and the games coming out in early november.

And we all run by your definition of what is desirable.

I know Figgy tries to be ridiculous, but you don't have to come along for the ride.

Are you some sort of invalid?

You don't have to personally desire a game, to tell that a lot of other people are going to want it. We are saying that a lot of highly anticipated games came out around that time, that forced people to make the decision not to get rockband 3.

And there are still a lot people out there who havn't recovered from the state of the economy and can't buy games whenever they want.

Don't know what is so "ridiculous" about all that.

Why can't they have the studio version of Sweet Home?

Fignuts 11-24-2010 03:47 PM

Because the Live version is better?

D Mac 11-25-2010 01:28 AM

No, it's not.

Fignuts 11-25-2010 01:39 AM

Yep.
