Supposedly Crisp's afro is only gonna be temporary. That's a shame. I'd love to see him keep it all season.

Evil Vito 04-15-2011 05:03 PM

Francesa said that today will be the last day he talks about the Mets unless they improve or something major happens. Direct quote: "They are awful and their season is over."

Good. Hope that fat fuck sticks to his promise since any discussion he has on the Mets turns into mindless drivel anyway. Shame that station didn't stick a Pro-Mets voice alongside him.

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-15-2011 05:25 PM

I'm actually thinking of starting Jair Jurgens in one of my fantasy teams vs. the Mets tomorrow since he's coming off the DL.

Go Red Sox

ClockShot 04-15-2011 07:02 PM

Yankees put Phil Hughes on the DL. Got a case of the dead arm.

Bartolo Colon will step in to take his place.

Damian Rey 04-15-2011 08:41 PM

Interesting. I wonder how Colon is going to fair. As a long/mop up reliever, he's serviceable. I have concerns for his stamina, and most importantly, his stuff. He's a fastball first type of pitcher, and sitting in the high 80s/low 90s, he's going to really have to command the zone. We shall see...

Droford 04-15-2011 09:04 PM

The Orioles are back to being complete sacks of garbage..oh well.

Evil Vito 04-15-2011 09:13 PM

Mets to play a double-header tomorrow despite playing one on Thursday and traveling to Atlanta 2 more times this season. What a bunch of crap.

Gertner 04-15-2011 10:57 PM

Jon Rauch to close for the Jays up 7-6 in the 9th.

Gertner 04-15-2011 11:00 PM

JAAAAAAAAAYS WIN!!!!! Blow me Boston!

Damian Rey 04-15-2011 11:29 PM

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!!!!! Padres beat the 'Stros 4 to 2. Aaron Harang goes 6 full to clinch his 3rd consequtive victory, as well as his 3rd straight start of allowing just one earned run.

Ryan Ludwick knocked in what ended up being the game winning runs with a 2 run single in the 7th. That has to feel good considering his struggles thus far. I'm hoping that wakes him up and gets him going.

Evil Vito 04-16-2011 12:43 AM

 I'm sure Crawford will be fine. I think he's feeling pressure to perform to lofty standards. Just needs to go out there and play his game. Things will turn up.

Emperor Smeat 04-16-2011 01:18 AM

It will take about a year for Crawford to figure out how to play balls off the Green Monster defensive-wise like how Manny became an expert at placement and predicting where the balls would hit and land.

He's struggling hitting wise but the bigger problem is half the lineup is struggling (bottom half barely is over .200 for most hitters) while the bullpen is wasting the slow improvement of the starters.

RP 04-16-2011 08:07 AM

Can the Cubs just pitch Zambrano every game until he blows up or his.arm blows up

Gertner 04-16-2011 02:09 PM

Jo Jo Reyes is so terrible. The sooner Morrow gets back the better.

Anybody Thrilla 04-16-2011 05:55 PM

How about those Cincinnati Redlegs?

ClockShot 04-16-2011 08:26 PM

Freddy Garcia chalks up his first win in pinstripes. Gardner must have been half asleep while on the basees today. Got picked off and gunned down.

Evil Vito 04-16-2011 09:42 PM

Down 3-0 with no outs, Daniel Murphy (not a fast runner) is thrown out trying to steal 3rd. What the fuck.

The dumbfuck baserunning mistakes are back. The terrible fielding is back. The inability to throw strikes is back. The uncertainty of injuries and failure to communicate them is back (Chris Young randomly gets his start pushed back by 2 days for a minor injury. Every Mets fan in the world says "watch he'll be on the DL soon". Well whaddya know, he's DL'ed within 24 hours).

Just awful. They are playing like a 100 loss team. And with the Wilpons at the helm ready to make rash decisions to appease the fan base now instead of allowing for a badly-needed rebuild, the worst is yet to come.

Damian Rey 04-16-2011 10:53 PM

Yea...the Mets ARE a 100 loss team. Well, maybe not 100. But pretty close. I feel for you, man. Chris Young was a huge injury risk. He's great wjhen he's not on the DL eating payroll.

Damian Rey 04-16-2011 10:58 PM

Also, Latos decided to unravel in the 7tth, giving up some walks after punching out Brett Wallace to start the inning. Game was tied at 3-3 to start the 7th, and the 'Stros put up two more in that same inning to take the lead and put the game away.

Chase Headley hit a hanging curve ball 430 plus feet to center, for a stand up, 2 run double.

I could get all riled up about this loss, but at least they're starting to score, squaring up on pitches, and getting some hits. The game could have looked completely different had Hunter Pence's goody self not made a spectacular catch to start the 9th. He robbed Nick Hundley of a for sure leadoff double, possibly a triple. Back to bakc hits ensued, which would have meant at least a 5-4 game with two on and no one out.

So yea, positives are, they are putting the bat on the ball and creating scoring chances. Just a matter of putting it all together. If the Padres score 4 runs a game, I guarentee you they will win no less than 60% of the time. Pitching staff is far too good to lose games with that sort of run support.

The Braves doing a squeeze play with the bases loaded is hilarious.

Emperor Smeat 04-17-2011 04:49 PM

It took a little over 2 weeks but the Red Sox finally managed to win 2 games in a row.

Tomorrow is going to be tough because its Dice-K vs Blue Jays #1 or #2 starter.

Evil Vito 04-17-2011 05:22 PM

Yeah Fredi managed the game pretty shittily today.

Feels good to finally win. Speaks volumes about the Mets' bullpen that rotation members Chris Capuano and R.A. Dickey were used in relief.

Homestand against the Astros and Diamondbacks next week, going to Wednesday's game. If they want any hope of climbing into relevance they need to win both of those series.

Damian Rey 04-18-2011 12:36 AM

Padres put some runs on the board, and actually kept coming up with big hits to beat the 'Stros 8 to 6 and split the series. I hope the offense carries over to Wrigley tomorrow.

Emperor Smeat 04-18-2011 02:21 PM

 Dice-K pitched great today. Just 1 hit allowed to the Blue Jays.

For some strange reason he only pitches great when its against the Blue Jays even though he struggles against teams who can hit HRs very well.

PHILADELPHIA -- PhillieBot, the one-armed, three-wheeled robot, designed by engineers at the University of Pennsylvania, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Wednesday's game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers.

The spectacle is part of Science Day festivities at Citizens Bank Park, said Evan Lerner, a spokesman for Penn's engineering school.

The pitching robot has been in the makings for a month and a half as Penn engineers Jordan Brindza and Jamie Gewirtz assembled parts and wrote software in their spare time, Lerner said.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6389703
The robot can be programmed to pitch like a MLB pitcher in both speeds and types of pitches but the Phillies made sure he only threw 30 mph or else people would want to do trades or put it in the Phillies rotation.

Futurama also said this is how the Robot Leagues started for baseball and then Blernsball.

Just came over the wire the MLB is taking over operations for the Dodgers. The McCourts can't coexist with each other and the team is strapped for cash. Frank McCourt took a $30 mil. loan from Fox to keep the team afloat.

Holy shit, and I thought the Mets had it bad with money.

Emperor Smeat 04-20-2011 05:42 PM

MLB set to take over daily operation and activities of the LA Dodgers after the current owners are currently in a financial mess due to the divorce.

Unlike the time the MLB took over the Expos, MLB is only taking over the day-to-day activities of the team and won't be spending their own money for potential trades or signings. When they owned the Expos, the MLB had to fight off owners complaining MLB was spending their money on another team and MLB didn't want to give the Expos special status.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-20-2011 06:20 PM

Os factoids of the night:

With a 2 run HR tonight with a runner at 2nd, Matt Wieters is 6 for 6 with RISP. I cant find any records dealing with RISP though.

Indians vs Royals had the Royals up 2-0 and a potential no hitter going until the 6th when a hit was given up. After that it was all down hill for the Royals pitcher with 2 balks and 4 runs given up in the 6th.

Evil Vito 04-20-2011 11:42 PM

I need to have my head examined for actually going to tonight's Mets game, especially since I've been sick as hell lately.

Was actually a fun game. But between Pagan getting thrown out at the plate and Thole popping up a crucial bunt on the first pitch causing a double play in the 9th, it really feels like they are inventing new ways to lose. Thole popped up a bunt. Dickey popped up a bunt. Willie Harris failed to bunt so he gave up and promptly struck out. 3 fucked up attempts at bunting in one game may be some kind of record. Last Thursday to tonight may legitimately have been the worst week of baseball ever played by a team.

They have found a way to lock up 100 losses in April. I'll always watch the games but at least with the 2009 Mets I didn't become basically apathetic about the results until like July. This year I'll be feeling that way on April 21st.

Big Fat Mike 04-21-2011 02:31 AM

Bartolo Colon has to have performed some kind of skill stealing voodoo, because he's pitching the way Phil Hughes should be and Hughes has thrown like an out of shape 37 year old man. Amazing.

Droford 04-21-2011 02:54 AM

As an Os fan the last week was brutal, 8 game losing streak was tough but the bats have come back alive and hopefully things have stabled out somewhat. With Boston in this weekend they could put together a decent little strech of games to get back on course even more.

You mean New York right? Because the Yankees are the team coming to Camden this weekend. The Red Sox are still gonna be on their west coast series.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-21-2011 07:37 PM

Nice, Big Vito's on suicide watch even earlier this year.

Gertner 04-21-2011 07:52 PM

Ugh, Brett Cecil sent to the minors. This mean probably that Scott Richmond or Brad Mills will start. The Jays seems to be fixated on keeping Jo Jo Reyes even though he sucks, always has and always will, but because Litsch and Cecil have options Reyes stays. Stewart, McGuire, Alvarez, Synngarrd and Sanchez can't develop soon enough. 3/5 of the Jays rotation has been garbage. Drabek has been amazing though.

YOUR Hero 04-21-2011 11:12 PM

Cecil will be alright

Gertner 04-21-2011 11:16 PM

I hope so, because he's been really off. Jays are in a good position where they aren't expected to compete so they can afford to send guys to AAA to work on stuff, but Vegas is such a friggen hitters park though.

Brewers give Ryan Braun a 5-year, $105 mil. extension.

Along with the 7-year deal he signed back in '08. He's now in Milwaukee until 2020 and gets a grand total of $145.5 mil.

That's crazy, imo.

That's what I figure and I truly believe the Cubs could get him or Puljos. I just hope they don't have to ship Colvin.

Jeritron 04-22-2011 02:28 PM

They definitely could, if the Brewers traded within the division. Normally that probably wouldn't happen but it might because it just happens that a lot of the big market teams are all set at the postion.

Same goes for Pujols. The Yankees having Texiera and the Red Sox having A-Gon shakes things up

Emperor Smeat 04-22-2011 03:04 PM

Dodgers owner wants to sue MLB for what he calls a "hostile takeover" of his team and to add to the , the guy MLB promoted to help take charge of the Dodgers after 2 days decided to side with the owner.

MLB got upset when it learned McCourt tried to take a $200 million loan from Fox out of the next tv contract and when that failed asked for $30 million to cover team costs.

Also revealed was the owner's family managed to spend $50 million in a few years on just themselves with loaned team money and another $20 million each year in "rent" from the team. Altogether the McCourts hid $145 million from MLB and the IRS due to not paying taxes.
