Trying not to ride the hype train because anyone who would live up to the hype just isn't gonna be the reveal.....

Evil Vito 03-05-2021 09:08 AM

Maybe drave is the signing

drave 03-05-2021 09:16 AM

Damnit :(

drave 03-05-2021 09:22 AM

I am just stumped, really. Trying to think of someone who I would mark out for in the world of wrasslin and outside of the names mentioned, cannot think of anyone else.

rez 03-05-2021 10:12 AM

Surfer Sting

weather vane 03-05-2021 11:56 AM

100p Kurt Angle.

#1-norm-fan 03-05-2021 01:12 PM

Didn’t Angle and Cody wrestle somewhere after Cody left WWE and did his tour of the indies?

Also, he just started a podcast with Conrad Thompson.

Yeah. It’s gotta be Angle.

Damn... Conrad podcast? Yeah it's gotta be Angle

Evil Vito 03-05-2021 01:43 PM

Angle popped in my head but mehhhhhh if it’s really him

Had nothing left in the tank if his last run was any indication, and while it’s cool enough to bring him in as an onscreen character/backstage staffer or whatever, he could’ve just turned up. No need to hype up the hiring of a non wrestler as some earth shattering thing.

weather vane 03-05-2021 01:53 PM

Well it’s him. I don’t love it but I don’t exactly hate it. He didn’t like the way he went out at WWE. He was pretty brutal at the end there.

xrodmuc316 03-05-2021 01:59 PM

Yeah, it's definitely Kurt Angle...

https://www.wrestlinginc.com/news/20...iddle-in-2019/

Evil Vito 03-05-2021 02:10 PM

Angle showing up unannounced and doing something would be a "neat, wasn't expecting that"

Angle showing up as a hyped up mystery, not so much

weather vane 03-05-2021 02:24 PM

Might be Christian too... or RVD. Prob Angle though.

Damian Rey 2.0 03-05-2021 02:50 PM

RVD and Angle would be huge disappointments. RVD is ok but past his prime and doesn't really bring anything interesting to the table, imo.

Angle was less than a shell of his old self and I have 0 interest in seeing him wrestle again. On top of that, to hype this as the biggest scoop ever and for Khan to hype thus signing up as a "major star" and "huge huge star", only for it to be washed up has beens who've already peaked and are running on empty would be a massive fucking letdown.

This could be their Road Warrior Animal in WCW circa 2001 as being a massive wet fart of a reveal if I'm remembering it correctly.

Jordan 03-05-2021 03:19 PM

Angle has been looking jacked as F In recent months... If he's on some really good performance enhancing drugs then I could see him having some good matches in AEW. Obviously Kenny being the leading contender for that.

Triple A 03-05-2021 03:48 PM

It really seems bad for them to hype it up this much if it's anyone other than CM Punk or Lesnar tbh... If it's not one of them, will hurt AEW's credibility imo...

Lesnar would be weird in AEW if it's him...

Bad News Gertner 03-05-2021 04:12 PM

Tony said it was one of his favourite wrestlers and his Mount Rushmore was Jericho, Sting Austin, and Bret

Not being facetious at all, but I would include Ryback in that. I would not consider him a letdown at all. Despite how WWE booked him, he was over as hell at certain points in his career. He also still has his post WWE mystique as a guy who choose to leave, and more importantly, did not show up on another wrestling show since then.

Then it's Bret. He already has Jericho and Sting, and Austin sure as hell isn't leaving WWE and his reality shows on USA.

Evil Vito 03-05-2021 05:24 PM

Bret was on AEW's inaugural show and I don't really understand what he would be doing on a multi-year contract. Suppose we'll see.

rez 03-05-2021 05:28 PM

David Arquette

drave 03-05-2021 05:29 PM

drave 03-05-2021 05:29 PM

Fuck it, throw Bret in with that. He is old, crotchety and annoying.

rez 03-05-2021 05:38 PM

The Ghost of Owen Hart. He'd be in the HoF by now...

I was just thinking that earlier. Not quite on the same level but it's who's Cartman's mom, who killed JR, who shot Mr. Burns, is Sting in the NWO?!

Triple A 03-05-2021 07:53 PM

Tony Khan:

Quote:

I'm fired up. I’ll say one thing, it’s one of my all-time favorite wrestlers. I tipped this on AEW Unrestricted, I said the gender is a male. He’s coming, he’s going to do great things for us, he’s committed, he’s going to sign a contract on Sunday at Revolution on pay-per-view. We’re going to have all these great matches, and also we’ll have this big news coming out of the show.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">&quot;It's one of my favorite wrestlers of all time...he's gonna do great things for us.&quot;<a href="https://twitter.com/TonyKhan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TonyKhan</a> discusses with <a href="https://twitter.com/davidlagreca1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@davidlagreca1</a> &amp; <a href="https://twitter.com/TheMarkHenry?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@TheMarkHenry</a> the surprise <a href="https://twitter.com/AEW?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@AEW</a> signing that will show up on <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/AEWRevolution?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#AEWRevolution</a> this Sunday <a href="https://t.co/24t0PnEsbc">pic.twitter.com/24t0PnEsbc</a></p>&mdash; SiriusXM Busted Open (@BustedOpenRadio) <a href="https://twitter.com/BustedOpenRadio/status/1367908502732214277?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 5, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Maybe it's Stone Cold??? 🤔 Is he under some sort of WWE "legends" contract? Feel like Bret Hart wouldn't be that big of a deal...

Damian Rey 2.0 03-05-2021 08:05 PM

Bret can't really do anything to help the company. He was a never a good talker and. now even less so. He can't wrestle or even bump. Outside of doing one offs like he did presenting the belt, he's virtually useless as an on screen character.

I love Austin, but I can't see him going for 2 reasons. 1, he's got his broken skull podcast, which I'm assuming is popular and heavily backed by Vince. 2, he too can't go anymore. Sure seeing a stunner would be fun here and there, and he's undeniably entertaining, but what does he bring? They already have tons of former wrestlers getting on screen roles. Yes, Austin is bigger then all of them. But does he really bring anything if they can't get a match out of him? Would he really take a match after all theseyears when you know Vince has probably asked him countless times since 03? Would Vince let one of his biggest stars of all time walk?

It won't be the Rock. It's not as unlikely but I don't think it'll be Cena. Styles and Daniel Bryan are locked into deals. Maybe it's Lesnar but that would be a lot of money for a guy who doesn't work much, even when you consider how well AEW does keeping guys from wrestling every single show.

Punk is the biggest and most realistic name. But i have my doubts. I'm honestly stumped.

But hey, we're buzzing so they got that going for them.

Triple A 03-05-2021 08:11 PM

CM Punk is still my top guess

Evil Vito 03-05-2021 08:13 PM

If it’s Punk, he looks a bit daft for his Twitter comments. Not him denying it was him, I’d expect that. But when asked about what he thinks AEW should do he just said “they should just focus on who they already have”.

Would be stunned if it was him.

Triple A 03-05-2021 08:15 PM

Big Show's "it's not who you think it is" line also kinda puts some doubt on Punk I guess

Evil Vito 03-05-2021 08:17 PM

Mark Henry’s reaction to Khan saying it’s one of his all time favorite wrestlers almost made it seem like an “aw shucks”

Lmao if it’s Henry

erickman 03-05-2021 08:21 PM

hope they do a fake out and someone like moose walks out.

Emperor Smeat 03-05-2021 08:47 PM

Hope they do something similar to how Brodie Lee's debut was done with the voice masking and mysterious video that played leading to him walking out of the entrance way.

Hearing the voice of Brodie becoming clearer as the promo went on just made his debut moment feel more hyped and special when it actually happened.

#1-norm-fan 03-05-2021 09:00 PM

Seriously, starting a podcast with Conrad Thompson is the first step to AEW now. If Angle isn’t the surprise, then he’s definitely gonna show up eventually anyway. And he seems like someone they would consider worth the hype even if we don’t.

slik 03-05-2021 09:04 PM

WHAT IF IT IS TUGBOAT

Maluco 03-05-2021 09:17 PM

No chance - Rock and Cena

Genuinely great surprise - Lesnar, Punk, Stone Cold, Batista

OK, but you overhyped it - Christian, RVD

Disappointment - Anyone else available

Probably could have seen a peak higher than what they did for their debut show had the match been in the main event or AEW announced beforehand it was opening the show via how the early minutes went for numbers.

He can do the one thing that is important to AEW better than anybody, and that's bury WWE at every chance.

xrodmuc316 03-05-2021 10:54 PM

I think it would make Punk look like an idiot if it was him. He could have debuted in his home town at All Out, instead he shows up 18 months later in front of a limited crowd as Big Show's friend?

Austin could be the GM of Raw on Monday if he wanted to, and still sells a good amount of merch with WWE, has a TV show on NBC owned channel, and broken skull sessions on the Network. No way it is him.

Batista, I said earlier how he was talking about retiring for 3 years before his retirement match even happened. He has a very good Hollywood career, and at 52 im pretty sure I believe him when he says he is done.

Cena is too loyal, its his life mantra. He is also pretty much full Hollywood at this point as well.

Christian would be very interesting. I'm not sure if he has a legends contract or not, but considering WWE has done nothing with him since the Rumble, him not inking a new deal may be why.

Mark Henry is a realistic option, he said he is training for a match, and how incredible would it be watching him and Big Show be a tag team and no selling all the Young Bucks shitty spots?

Lesnar would be the perfect option as a big signing, but then what? He murders the whole roster for a year and a half? You think he is gonna want to do business with Mox or Jericho now just because it's a new company?

Angle is certainly jumping to the front of the line. Podcast with Conrad, check. Bashing WWE booking, check. Acting like Vince overlooked him instead of pushing him to the moon, check.

Ryback because he has been talking about joining AEW for like 2 years.

Maybe Cody will convince Ted Jr to come out of retirement. Unlike every other option, he is still under 40. Bonus if they can get pops to be his manager.

RVD talked a lot of shit about AEW during his last Impact run, he could be a good heel option.

Not really sure who else it realistically could be unless they are pulling somebody from New Japan.

Can probably scratch these two off that list since Ted DiBiase Jr. is currently dealing with some serious legal issues over fraud allegations involving Mississippi's state welfare system.
