And Darby so good at getting beat up lol
|
Crowd super hot for Sting
|
Damn at Coffin Drop on the apron.... great end to the match, great match in general....
|
AEW very good at always giving something to "look forward to".... Miro defending the title next week...
|
Sarah Logan should debut to help Ruby take out Britt's lackeys....
|
oh no at Baker with the middle finger to the camera....
|
Vintage JR calling Britt's cronies jezebelles
|
And the match ends with Lock Jaw in Ruby's mouth
|
Decent little match.... was kinda burned out by the end a bit....
Really good show... |
This weeks show was good imo. Not as good as some of the recent episodes though.
Bryan/Omega was an incredible match. But I hate that it ended in the time limit draw. I know it was the right call but damnit it's a non title match and Bryans first match and I really wish he would have won. Have The Elite interference end up distracting Kenny too much and Bryan to get a quick pin. Something. Feud continues either way. Like I said I know the draw was the right call (I went in dreading that it was gonna be a DQ ending, especially when it went on first) but man I really wanted a good finish. Disclaimer: I was never a huge CM Punk fan back in the day. His mic work was excellent but his matches kinda bored me. Since he's been back his one match was a really good one imo, especially for a guy who hasn't gone in 7 years. His mic work is still great. BUT. I am over him getting an interview every week. They are starting to get that samey feel to them. When I looked at tonights line up and saw the CM Punk promo segment listed I kinda was like uhg. Do something different with him. Please. Do a promo segment with the people he is feuding with. SOMETHING. It was still a good promo and his delivery was fine, but I've just heard it before. This was the low part of the show for me. Don't have much to say about MJF/Pillman. It was what I expected. Pillman is still a little green but he's improving fast and has a bright future. MJF still the best heel in the business. I enjoyed this segment. FTR vs Sting/Darby was good shit. I've mentioned before that Darby got a horrible reaction early on in AEW when I went to the original fyter fest. It has been amazing watching him turn that reaction into being one of the most over guys out there in 2 years. He is on fire. I think r/n I probably enjoy his matches more than anyone else. Also amazing seeing Sting still go. Wouldn't have believed he could perform at this level at his age unless I had seen it myself. FTR is a good team. Always put on the good matches and tonight was no different. Kinda wish they had won though but Darby needs to keep on winning after the loss to Punk. Codys back. Uhg. Why does he still have that tattoo? Awful. Was a good match though. lol @ Brandi going wild. Awkward stuff with Arn, glad he didn't get hurt there. He's getting up there, gotta be more careful. Mallacop Blart is the shit. Loved him when he was in NXT, still loved him when WWE ruined him, still love him now. One of my favorites over the last few years. I'm also a fan of all the macabre/occult gimmicks which make me love him even more. Stoked he went over. Wish the finish was him kicking stardust in the head so hard that his tattoo flew off his neck though. The Dr. and Ruby. Loved Rubys look tonight. Probably the best gear she has ever had tbh. She has so much energy and charisma; shame WWE never let her really show it. Knew there was no way Britt was losing the title tonight (she should never lose it ever), so I figured her jezebels interfering was coming. Glad it didn't end with the DQ though, would have been very WWE to end the 2 biggest matches in one show with non-finishes. AEW has been better about not using the non-finish too much so far, and I hope they never lean into it. I imagine Lock Jaw is super stoked to end the night in Britts mouth. Overall a good show. The non-finish in the opener kinda bummed me a bit, as did the CM Punk promo. Cody being there brought it down a little bit too. These reasons, mostly Punk and Cody, are why I didn't like this weeks ep as much as some of the recent ones. Just felt like a step back; a very very small step though. |
Would like for Cody to say something smart to heel Punk in the future and just have Punk turn around and be like "Shut up Stardust" and walk off. Maybe give him the finger as he walks away without looking back.
|
Back home... almost def got COVID-19... could feel every1's hot breath on me...
Show was sweet, esp the Omega vs. Danielson match during which the crowd was freaking insane... My main "criticism" is I wish there were more talking and storyline segments instead of it being like a PPV where it's just match after match... didn't even let MJF talk to shit on Queens and get more heat |

They were quietest during the Jericho/Hager vs. Men of the Year match definitely... but feel like some of that is because they didn't put any of the match up on the big screens... feel like that always happens at wrestling shows... they always just forget to put the match up on the screen at some point during the show |
what did you eat at the stadium @ people who attended the show
|
Had a pretzel with mustard ($7) and cup of water ($7)
They didn't have any fancy food like oysters... |
|
One of my favorite moments of the night was just how well worked out that Sting & Darby Allin v FTR match was. It felts like classic tag tropes but they worked so naturally. The build up was so f'n good.
Rewatching the show on tv now. If you guys could have seen the congestion and lines at merch and food stands. Insane. 40 minute was minimum from what I could tell. Pretty brutal. |
I didn't eat because the lines were ridiculous and the halls were sometimes at a stand still there were so many people.

Yeah someone left to get beer after the Omega/Danielson match and returned near the end of Malakai/Cody. Missed Punk’s promo and basically 2 whole matches.
Cool venue but Arthur Ashe is in no way equipped for a crowd of that size. Also most sports venues have 2 mens rooms for every women’s room. Not for a tennis stadium though. |
It was by far the loudest crowd I've ever heard in my life. Especially when Adam Cole gets his entrance, holy shit.
|
@Triple A
Did you get to see Tay Conti or Anna Jay? |
The vast majority of the crowd stayed, which was good to see. Did have a few people eventually split with 2 matches left to go though because they had trains to catch.
I went the 7 line which as it turns out wasn’t going to Manhattan like it usually would, so I transferred over to the F and ended up just getting off at whatever stop got me closest to the hotel and walked. Think I walked like 20 miles today, calves are barking |
Overall I'd much rather AEW try to run Barclays because it's a lot better of a venue. Sure it's not as big of a venue but it's sick and it's the perfect venue for wrestling in nearly every seat.
My seats were in the middle of the tip tier and we really felt quite far so next time if they go to Arthur Ashe and I go I will splurge for closer tickets. But also to be honest I prefer watching at home. There was a lot of retards and burn victims and I saw some shit I never saw before in the attendees of this show. I saw those that evolved from the sewers of NYC. Ponytails Replica Belts Neck Beard Pasty Girlfriend Retards Burn Victims Lesbians Some Looney Toons looking people |
Did the Taz segment air on Dynamite?
He came out to a version of his ECW theme... an instrumental of War Machine... was cool... <iframe width="1280" height="1147" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/lXJ5r7tbVz4" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I saw a guy who looked like an early day Snapchat filter ... looney toons I swear to God.

The crowd really hated Cody, very much like John Cena or Roman in their babyface days. He came out looking like Homelander from The Boys. That's gotta be where they go with him, find some way to make him more like Homelander and he will be a great heel for AEW for a long time.
|
Also I thought that a lot of the moves I see on AEW that look like shit looked really good live.
I thought that Ruby Soho looked like a baby when she ran and worked really light. Same for Pillman he's working too light at times and still doesn't have a real personality. |
I noticed that Suzuki was also "working really light" it seemed... Like hitting Moxley really softly...
|
This won’t air on TV so I’ll post it...
So “out of the loop” with a lot of modern music but especially rap. Numerous people around me were like “what the fuck!” “holy shit” etc over Lil Uzi Vert being Tony Khan’s second in a rap battle against The Acclaimed Genuinely have never heard of him. |

I'm watching the show on TV now... though it sounds really loud and amazing, feel like it felt way louder in person... esp during the opening match. Could really barely hear the entrance music over the crowd noise, was "deafening"
|
God damn this match ruled
|
Hyped for heel Cody tbh… fans are shitting on him, elaborate over the top ring gear and entourage while being an EVP… screams heel!
Could even run an angle down the track with him trying to chase the title he promised he would never challenge for. |

Was just seeing some complain that AEW didn't do time cues on the PA during Omega/Bryan. They did actually I think it was 15/5/1 but the PA system wasn't great and the crowd was so loud that most people didn't know what he was saying unless they watched WCW back in the day.
|
The sound was kind of unlike anything I've ever experienced. I was in the top tier in the area the hard cam was facing. By the time sound would get to us (which sounded very jet like) we would already be making our own sound or chant and they would meet up in this symphony of exuberance.
You're at an arena that was designed for a sport that is as quiet as 90's NJPW shows. Designed for everyone to hear the mach of a tennis ball. Very amphitheater like. Also I really wanted more bass slaps from the Young Bucks theme, hope they add a heavy bass track one day. GOTTA SLAP |
Also the taping started at 7:15 so we saw 3 TV tapings in one setting. Nearly 5 hours of wrestling is just too fucking much. They gotta stop doing that shit right away.
|
Yeah, the challenge they keep having is Rampage only being an hour most weeks makes it hard to do as a stand-alone show unless the circumstances are right (Britt being mega over in Pittsburgh, Punk’s Chicago return etc), but on those nights they can always do a 2 hour Elevation taping or something
I dunno. I get why they did a 2 hour Rampage this week to maximize their return on the venue but yeah way too long of a show. Crowd was hot the whole time at least but it was clear on the way out everyone was wiped.....one guy tried starting a chant on the way to the subway and nobody a having any of it lol |
The guy next to me (who ended up buying my spare ticket for 3 hundo) went for food at like 6:40 and missed the entire Elevation taping.
Not that missing squashes is a big deal but yeah, lines were wild |
I remember watching some Wrestle Kingdoms that were so amazing I was stunned when it hit hour #4 because it flew by. I sorta felt that way here, I was so amped in-show that the length didn’t bother me but it was a collective crash leaving the arena. I usually sleep like shit the first night in a hotel and I was out cold lol
|
I’m glad you guys had a great time. It certainly translated to tv. That crowd was hot as fuck.
Glad to hear the crowd held its energy for Rampage. Also lemme say one more time, Sting is fucking incredible. Dude is in his 60s, wrestled in 5 different decades, and is working great matches with guys half his age, hitting cross bodies off the top fucking rope like it ain’t shit. How the fuck did they not run Sting v Taker? What a missed opportunity. Sting was more than good enough to go. |

is it me or does Christian seem way out of place in AEW? I kind of wish someone else was in that role he's currently in. Maybe because he's a babyface and he's a much better heel
|
Christian's response live was better than what I had expected and better than what I've heard before for him but it wasn't anything special at all. He absolutely needs to turn heel. He will be much more valuable to the undercard babyfaces as a heel against them.
|
I really enjoyed this show. Even with the draw ending, Omega vs bryan was one of the best matches I've seen on Free TV. THIS is the Kenny omega I've wanted to see since aew began, and it's the first instance I can think of, where his performance matched the quality of his njpw run.
I also want to point out a moment that shows what an amazing commentator Tony Schiavone is. When Bryan kicked out of the avalanche dragon suplex, Tony explained he was able to do so because he flipped and landed on his stomach. NO ONE ELSE DOES THIS. Any other commentator would have just freaked out and talked about Bryan's resilience despite the fact that it's pretty unbelievable that anyone could kick out of that no matter how resilient they are. Tony's analysis of the kickoff is a small touch but stuff like that adds so much to an already great match. Cornette is right that wrestling is at its best when it makes sense, and Tony helped them have a huge moment while still keeping it grounded in reality. |

Like if he's meant to be the hardest worker in the ring, there are others in AEW who could take that crown instead. Same for promos. |
yeah Christian is still great in the ring. no problems there. like you guys are saying, the character doesn't feel right, especialy hanging around the jungle people lol. I can't stand them by the way. not my cup of tea. I'd rather another team have that spot feuding with The Elite
|

Christian should definitely turn heel, citing all these other people debuting and stealing his thunder....
He should then steal The Elite from under Kenny's nose, they become his new lackeys, and Christian uses them to become champion and go on a reign of terror. |

A la Kurt Angle stealing the Christian Coalition in TNA!
|
I think Christian has been fantastic so far and I’ve been surprised to learn that’s the minority opinion here. He has not had a bad match and he’s put out more than a couple bangers.
The Jungle Boy stuff has felt a little out of place. That’s been my only criticism so far. Otherwise he’s been great. |
That backstage promo on Adam Cole was kinda neat.

jurassic express is out of place in-general. large dude that is a dinosaur, does lucha things, but hasn't been part of any singles programs yet, much to be seen and not sure if that's good or bad long term. marko... stunt, is there. jb is going to be big no matter what i would say i am more into christian than i have been in years, he looks fucking great, and he brings legitimacy in everything he's done |
