What Would Kevin Do? 01-23-2007 02:58 AM

Both are huge names in their respective company, and are pretty damn popular in both the Japanese and American wrestling scene.

Essentially, NOAH and DG management would probably never decide on who would win.

You MIGHT see it if there were other matches before or after it, either a rematch between the two, or other matches on the same card, ala Marufuji Vs Dragon Kid, or something of that sort. However, the fact that NOAH and Dragongate don't really work together much as it is, the chances of this match happening are really slim.

Fignuts 01-23-2007 03:02 AM

Exactly why we need a new super J-cup.

Last one was beyond horrible.

Fignuts 01-23-2007 03:05 AM

They had KENTA, Lyger, CIMA, Heat, delfin, Taka, Jinsei, and billy ken kid on the show, but none of them were in the tournament. Instead you had a bunch of sub-par up and comers, and Marufuji.

The logic is mind-boggling.

Either would be great, I just prefer Doi a bit more.

Plus, I mark for the bakatare sliding kick ;)

Heh, I get the feeling that someone would really enjoy that match.

Mr. Monday Morning 01-25-2007 02:58 PM

FYI Kev

Dragon's Gate announced today in Japan that they would be sending CIMA, Masaaki Mochizuki, Susumu Yokosuka, Dragon Kid, Ryo Saito, Genki Horiguchi, and Shingo Takagi to the Ring of Honor events in Detroit, Michigan on 3/30 and 3/31 during Wrestlemania 23 weekend.

Dragon's Gate sent many of the same talents to last year's ROH events in Chicago the weekend of Wrestlemania 22. That led to one of the best matches of 2006, a six man tag featuring Blood Generation of CIMA & Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino vs. Do Fixer of Ryo Saito & Genki Horiguchi & Dragon Kid during ROH's "Supercard of Honor" event.

Blitz 01-25-2007 03:31 PM

Time for ROH to Man Up

Fignuts 02-02-2007 09:44 AM

On the subject of TNA making Joe leave ROH, I'm not sure if I disagree with this dicesion. TNA has always had a good working relationship with ROH, so for them to pull Joe out they must have some big plans for him in the future. And pulling a wrestler that you have big plans for, from his indy work, so there is less chance of getting overworked or injured, is a smart move.

Now if they are doing it for any other reason, then fuck TNA.

I'd bet they went up to him and basically said (not in so many words) "You need to choose ROH or TNA" (as they did with Punk I believe). TNA would have been hit pretty hard if he chose ROH.

Briscoes are going to win those titles on 2/24. And if they don't I'm going to be PISSED. Okay, not pissed, but it's about time that they finally manned up and got the straps.

I heard a rumor that NOAH begged TNA to steal Joe from ROH because Misawa was afraid that Joe was going to kill and eat him.

Is it wrong that I'm mostly hyped for the Briscoes vs Shingo/Doi match and seeing Sara Del Ray? :o

What Would Kevin Do? 02-02-2007 01:53 PM

I may have missed something here, but shouldn't Doi and Shingo not really like each other, since there stables have been feuding over in Dragon Gate (Muscle Outlawz and Blood Generation)

What Would Kevin Do? 02-02-2007 01:53 PM

Seven Dragon Gate Stars Coming To Detroit
Wednesday, February 07, 2007

Ring Of Honor and Dragon Gate are thrilled to announce that seven Dragon Gate stars have been signed to compete on ROH's double shot in Detroit on March 30th & 31st. Last year Dragon Gate brought six top talents to ROH for the triple shot during The Milestone Series. The result was several excellent bouts including The Wrestling Observer match of the year. Tickets are now on sale for both 3/30 & 31 at www.ROHwrestling.com or by calling 215-781-2500.

Complete match details will be released after the Fifth Year Festival. You can expect one night to feature several ROH vs. Dragon Gate matches. ROH officials are hoping to put together a six man tag that can rival the match of the year from "Supercard Of Honor" for the other night. These plans are subject to change. One thing you are guaranteed is that these exceptional athletes will be put in the best matches possible to give you the most bang for your buck. The official list that is signed for 3/30 & 31 in Detroit include:

-CIMA
-Naruki Doi
-Ryo Saito
-Dragon Kid
-Shingo
-Masaaki Mochizuki
-Susumu Yokosuka

This will mark the ROH debuts of Mochizuki and Yokosuka. CIMA, Doi, Saito and Dragon Kid were all part of last year's huge shows. When you add other Dragon Gate veterans like Matt Sydal, Jack Evans, Roderick Strong, Austin Aries and Jimmy Rave to the mix the match possibilities are endless. It is also possible that the Dragon Gate stars will be placed in first time ever dream matches against other regulars on the ROH roster.

The addition of these seven unique talents insure that both the Detroit events will be well rounded, can't miss shows. Keep checking ROHwrestling.com for more big announcements for this weekend.

Ring of Honor Presents: Home of the Rave
February 16, 2007

Bell Time: 8:15

- ROH announces that tickets for tonight's event have sold out.

1) Takeshi Morishima defeats Pelle Primaeu. Pelle came out to begin the show, issuing an open challenge. Samoa Joe's music hit, but Morishima came out. Morishima destroyed Pelle in seconds, getting the victory. Nigel McGuinness then comes out to calm Morishima down.

2) Delirious defeats Adam Pearce. Pearce had a foreign object, went to hit Delirious with it, but hit Shane instead. In the confusion, Delirious picked up the object, and put it in his mask. He then hit a headbutt on Pearce, knocking Pearce out.

3) Sara Del Ray & Allison Danger defeat Alexa Fisher & Daizee Haze. Del Ray pinned Fisher after a double underhook suplex.

4) Four Way Fray: Xavier vs Jack Evans vs Jimmy Jacobs vs SHINGO
- Jack Evans eliminated Xavier after reverse hurricanrana.
- SHINGO eliminates Jimmy Jacobs
- Jack Evans pins SHINGO after a 630 splash from the top turnbuckle.

- Samoa Joe came to the ring to thank the New York ROH fans. He called out Morishima, but Nigel came out instead. Nigel and Joe exchange words, then brawl. Refs and students break it up.

5) Tables Match: B.J. Whitmer defeats Brent Albright. BJ Whitmer took a Razor's Edge through two doublestacked tables...and kicked out! Match is still going, said to be brutal and intense. BJ Whitmer wins the match after an exploder from the top turnbuckle through two tables.

- So far, ROHPhilly has said "great match" after both the Four Way and the Tables match.

6) ROH World Tag Team Championship Match: Matt Sydal & Christopher Daniels defeat Austin Aries & Roderick Strong. Roderick has a widely visable black eye, stemming from his PWG action last weekend. Midway through the match, Austin Aries suffers an ankle injury. Aries apparently went for a top rope springboard, missed the rope and landed badly. He can barely stand. Sydal hits the Shooting Star Press on Aries, following by Daniels hitting the Best Moonsault Ever.

- After the match, Roderick Strong attacks Austin Aries, hitting a backbreaker. Davey Richards comes to the ring. Davey and Roderick are now a team known as the No Remorse Core. Jack Evans made the save for Aries, who was hurting badly.

- Well, so much for the dominating Briscoes theory...

7) Nigel McGuinness & Colt Cabana defeat Jay & Mark Briscoe. Nigel pinned Jay after a lariat.

8) Samoa Joe defeats Takeshi Morishima. Joe choked Takeshi out. Morishima was locked in the choke, and his arm dropped three times for the defeat.

9) ROH World Championship: Homicide defeats Jimmy Rave. Homicide won via pinfall after a copkilla.

6) FIP Championship: Roderick Strong vs Delirious. Aries tried to attack Strong before the match, but never got to him. Match is ongoing now. During the match, Delirious was knocked out cold. The ref made the 'x' sign, as Roderick dragged Delirious out of the ring. Strong gave Delirious a powerbomb on the outside and went back to the ring. Ref made the 20 count. Delirious looked badly injured. Aries tried to attack Roderick again after the match but doesn't get to him again.

7) ROH World Tag Team Titles: Sydal & Daniels defeat SHINGO & Evans. Sydal gets the victory over Jack after a top rope doubleteam Angel's Wings on Jack. Fun match.

- After the match, Austin Aries comes out demanding that Jack Evans picks which side he will be on. Jack refuses. Aries says that he's going to find the next generation of stars and begin his own group. Evans vows to do the same, thus making this weekend the weekend of factions.

8) ROH World Championship: Takeshi Morishima defeats Homicide.

Hagadorn won by forcing Alex to submit. Briscoes get the win after hitting a combo Shooting Star Press-Guillotine Leg Drop combo on Kevin Steen. "Unfu Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new ROH World Champion! Very hot finish. Morishima hit Homicide with two T-Bone suplexes, but Homicide kicked out. Morishima hit a lariat, then finished Homicide off with the suplex for the victory. A very pro-Homicide crowd was stunned at the finish. Homicide was visibly crying, losing the belt he worked four years to win.

What Would Kevin Do? 02-18-2007 02:09 AM

We'll see how it plays out. The NOAH ROH deal must be very strong and trusting. I think Morishima could be a great champ really. He comes off as more of a thread than Homicide (no DQ style battles not counted)(

Mr. Monday Morning 02-18-2007 07:50 AM

Pretty sure Mori is wrestling for NOAH on the Liverpool weekend, so no Nigel switch there. Dunno, unpredictability can be good, ROH has started to veer towards formulaic stuff in some ways so it's good to shake things up. ESPECIALLY if all this faction stuff means the return of Alex Shelley.

Oh, and the possibility of a Generico/Steen vs Briscoes feud makes me giddy.

I wonder if this is possibly connected to the rumors of TNA forcing their talent to pick between them and working indies.

Destor 02-18-2007 12:42 PM

This has more to do with the fact Cide isn't a world champion.

Destor 02-18-2007 12:42 PM

Morishima as World Champ

Roderick turning on Aries, No Remorse Corps with Davey

Aries and Evans making their own factions

Joe's farewell tour

Delirious

ROH getting even more interesting right now

What Would Kevin Do? 02-18-2007 05:27 PM

I'm trying to figure out who Aries and Evans will get....

and No Remorse Corps... I'm assuming Albright will end up with NRC as a hired gun. Or Romero

Aries will probably take Matt Cross. (M-Dog 20)

Innovator 02-18-2007 06:12 PM

Aries and Delirious should join up, after Roderick beat down Delirious last night

Mr. Monday Morning 02-19-2007 03:16 PM

Aries should join up with Akiyama and form TEAM STERN FACIAL HAIR

Oh and it's all but confirmed Morishima will defend against KENTA on 3/4 at the Budokan (unless he jobs to Whitmer :| ) and then won't be seen again until after Wrestlemania weekend. Which leads me to believe Nigel will be the one to beat him, since it would take a mammoth booking job to get any of the smaller guys in a position to be able to realistically beat him, plus there's an easy angle with Nigel getting angry with Mori for not respecting ROH/the title and for making him look bad when he was standing up for NOAH.

Innovator 02-19-2007 03:21 PM

Yeah I see Nigel as the guy.....or perhaps Mori holds it until we hear the Final Countdown again

Mr. Monday Morning 02-19-2007 03:31 PM

Innovator 02-19-2007 03:35 PM

There're a lot of guys who could take the title. Nigel, Aries, Colt, Cide again, Dragon, Davey.

As long as it's not Jimmy Rave

ron the dial 02-19-2007 03:38 PM

I'm definitely looking for Nigel to take the title from Morishima, but wouldn't be too bothered by any of those listed above. Except Davey. DO NOT want the belt on him.

Morishima made Homicide his bitch. Seeing him live was amazing. He is a big, big boy.

The factions should be interesting but the NRC needs someone who can work the mic. Jack Evans has charisma but it seemed like everything he said Saturday night was scripted. It was like a bad episode of Saved by the Bell.

Also, Steen/Generico v. the Briscoes absolutely stole the show. It was one of the best tag team matches I've ever seen.

ron the dial 02-24-2007 11:50 AM

I'm going to see Samoa Joe in his final US match as an ROH regular tonight, and the whole thing is just surreal to me. I didn't start watching ROH until about a year ago. Shit, I hadn't watched wrestling in a few years until about a year ago. Then I got bored, started checking this site out again, and saw a few people talking about this place called Ring of Honor. I'd heard hype elsewhere as well, so I figured it would be worth illegally downloading a few matches to see what it was all about.

The first match that I downloaded was Joe vs. Punk II, because these were the guys I was most interested in after reading about them, and this was the match that was getting all of the hype. Plus, it was in Chicago and that's where I'm from. I was fucking blown away. I've been to every ROH in Chi-Town since last June, and don't plan on stopping any time soon.

My point is this: Joe was a major factor in me getting back into professional wrestling. I thought that I'd grown beyond it (and sometimes still feel that way watching WWE), but ROH, and more specifically Joe and Punk, got me back into it. ROH owes a lot to both of those guys (as well as many others), and I'm glad that Chicago got to say goodbye to both of them.

Hopefully we'll see Joe back in Ring of Honor some day, but for now I understand why he's got to go do his thing. I'm just happy that I got to see the man in some sick matches before he left.

Mr. Monday Morning 02-25-2007 08:56 AM

3) Albright defeated Claudio with help from Sweeney

4) Rave beat Whitmer with a cradle with his feet on the ropes. I was told this was bad

5) Jay and Mark Briscoe over Matt Sydal and Christopher Daniels after Daniels eats a cutthroat Burning Hammer, Sydal takes one of his own, a Jay toprope legdrop, and a Mark shooting star press to win the ROH World Tag Team Titles.

6) Austin Aries and Matt Cross over Davey Richards and Roderick Strong via Aries 450, Cross f-d himself up on an Asai moonsault onto the barrier. NRC attack after, Cross gets Tiger Drivered on the rail. Rematch next Chicago show Saturday April 28th.

7) Colt Cabana over Jimmy Jacobs after Colt 45ing Lacey and Jimmy. Lots of blood. Jimmy hits splash from top of in-ring ladder to Colt on a table on the floor. Whitmer and Albright also involved.

8) Takeshi Morishima and Nigel McGuinness over Samoa Joe and Homicide when Nigel pinned Joe with a lariat

-----

I'd assume that means Joe gets his win back over Nigel next Saturday

Fucking amazing show. That's all I'll say.

Gulak 02-25-2007 09:23 PM

Davey Richards is ruined now that he's Roderick Strong's bitch.

PS - No Remorse Corps is the gayest sounding shit I've ever heard.

Air Devils....nuff said

Well, if Roderick is ever going to improve behind the mic, he needs a chance to try. Ring of Honor is somewhere where he can do that. While I agree that he sucks behind the mic, he hasn't been heel in a long time, and that usually helps anybody grow more. I'm actually slightly intrigued by this No Remorse Corps. I definately can't wait for Hero to come back, and see who is in his stable. I would keep him and Claudio together for the time being, and bring in Quackenbush and Albright to round out the stable.

blake639raw 02-26-2007 01:03 AM

Also, it's time for Ring of Honor to MAN UP!

Mr. Monday Morning 02-26-2007 04:40 AM

Quack as a heel? :-\

blake639raw 02-26-2007 07:07 AM

I don't see why not. All he would have to do is be with Hero & Sweeney and that's enough to be honest. He wouldn't even need to talk hardly any at all. I mean, he's with Hero & Sweeney.

Mr. Monday Morning 02-26-2007 09:20 AM

That'd kind of be a waste though, as he is a very good talker. I dunno he just seems to have natural face charisma IMO

Joe's final opponent as a regular will be against.............................Homicide

Which is pretty fucking lame, if you ask me

Nah I like it. It makes the most sense given their history in ROH.

I mean it wasn't like we'd get Low Ki vs. Joe II.....dammit

Mr. Monday Morning 02-26-2007 11:58 AM

Yes it does in that sense. But it's also a match that has been done to death, and I can't help but be anything but skeptical that it won't be a glorified exhibition.

Gulak 02-26-2007 01:12 PM

Expect it to be everything that Colt Cabana vs CM Punk was.

Mr. Monday Morning 02-26-2007 01:19 PM

A glorified exhibition, then

This won't be the last time we see Joe in ROH

Cmon, would Gabe just have Mori lose to Joe the night before Mori won the title for nothing?

What if come August or September Mori is still undefeated, challenges anyone to come get him, out comes Joe, place erupts and Final Battle 2007 is set.

blake639raw 03-01-2007 01:54 PM

Go to rohvideos.com for the new video wire. It's got clips of Morishima, the Briscoes winning the tag titles, Cabana/Jacobs, and Joe's ring entrance from his final ROH match in the United States. Truly a touching moment. :'(
