I'm playing SD Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes the Pain again, as they have the best season modes ever.

Disturbed316 09-11-2008 03:54 AM

Wow RTW looks terrible, only a short number of people to choose and from the looks of things, facing the same people as well.

Terrible.

That's it for playable characters in Road to WrestleMania mode......granted, each has a totally different story with possible different endings. But christ, of that list I'd probably only be Jericho or Punk.

Also, the rosters for it are pre-WM obviously...which probably means you can't be a heel in story mode yet again

Also, those 7 guys will represent the next 7 days of the Countdown, along with a vid of each character's story

There goes Jef Hardy's only chance of ever winning the world title.

For a moment, forget all the monikers and catch phrases. Overlook the seemingly countless championships and tournaments he has won. Ignore the fact that he has spearheaded two of the most important factions in WWE history, and overcome what the pundits considered career-ending injuries. You need only two words to properly sum up Triple H: The Game

Strong words, especially when one considers the King of Kings was once a 135-pound "beanpole" from Nashua, N.H. But when he received a free one-week membership for a small local gym one summer day, the 14-year-old "gangly" teen's life changed forever. For the next three years, he spent nearly every day in that gym, developing every muscle in his body and transforming himself into a six-foot-four, 210-pound powerhouse. He entered -- and won -- numerous regional bodybuilding competitions, including the prestigious Teen Mr. New Hampshire title at the age of 19. Yet The Game himself admits, "I never seriously considered becoming a pro bodybuilder... My dream was World Wrestling Entertainment."

Enrolling in Walter "Killer" Kowalski's Pro Wrestling School in Malden, Mass., the future Cerebral Assassin trained four days a week under Kowalski's "tough love" tutelage, then divided his weekends between wrestling in the independent circuit and managing a Gold's Gym in Nashua. Almost inconceivably, he would have to fly himself down to Atlanta in 1993, to convince then-new VP Eric Bischoff that he was "good enough" to join the World Championship Wrestling roster. Fortunately, the unlimited potential he showed at World Championship Wrestling quickly got him noticed at World Wrestling Entertainment; by May 1995, "Hunter Hearst-Helmsley" (a name which soon became more identifiable as Triple H) would make his WWE debut. And the rest, as they say, is history.

More than 20 years after entering that small Nashua gym, Triple H maintains the strictest of training regimens, incorporating techniques from world-renowned fitness trainers like Charles Glass. Such dedication has provided him with the fortitude to become a Grand Slam champion; the wisdom to shepherd the "Evolution" of then-newcomers Randy Orton and Batista to WWE Superstardom; the charisma to star in feature films, television shows, and commercials; and the stamina to pull countless sophomoric pranks on Mr. McMahon as a founder of D-Generation X. And it's precisely what makes him "that damn good." Source: WWE.com

Theyre missing that little "pan around the schnozz" camera angle he's had for about a good 6-8 months now when he gets to the end of the rampway.

<font color=goldenrod>A couple more people have been confirmed via GameSpot video...in a loading screen it showed stats for how many wins, losses, etc. people on the roster have in your game. Listed among them were:

Candice (obvious)
Mickie James (obvious)
Cody Rhodes (obvious)
Jimmy Wang Yang (YEEEEEEEEE HAW)
Chuck Palumbo (I'd have to guess Jamie Noble got in too since he and Palumbo had a big feud)</font>

Dark-Slicer Diago 09-12-2008 08:17 AM

I'm shocked that Palumbo and Yang made it in, I'm glad they did though.

Lord-Of-Darkness 09-12-2008 09:46 AM

Seeing as Rhodes got in, I'd like to see Dibiase get in as well. And maybe we'd get Dibiase Sr as a legend?

KingofOldSchool 09-12-2008 09:50 AM

Apparently also from Gamingring there is a couple of screenshots confirming alternate attires for at least Jericho and Punk.

Plus confirmed 60+ wrestlers on the roster with no sign of legends.

TerranRich 09-12-2008 10:27 AM

No legends? Is that confirmed?

That wouldn't bother me ONE BIT. As long as it made room for more deserving current-day wrestlers. Hell, even Divas. I wouldn't mind seeing Natalya, Layla, and Maryse in 3D. :naughty:

Evil Vito 09-12-2008 11:02 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, as I've said...unless they are giving us tag legends or something, almost all the legends they normally use will be in Legends of WM. If any legend is in the game, it'll prolly be Flair.

Apparently if they continue to only do one Countdown guy per weekday, the roster will only be 52...but I'm guessing they'll double up towards the end, maybe doubling on tag teams. I mean, if Jesse is announced one day, not only would most people not care but it would spoil Festus' inclusion.

Come to think, I wonder if they have a cutscene of Festus flipping out when the bell rings...and when the match ends his postmatch thing should be him going docile.</font>

Unless want to screw with us and include Jesse but not Festus. And then include Deuce, but not Domino and have the team of Jesse and Deuce. :shifty:

<font color=goldenrod>I'd mark out if Deuce 'n Domino got in. :o With the focus on tag teams and apparently no legends, you never know...them, Londrick, and Cade/Murdoch all should have been in last year, and THQ likes to put people in a year later than they should, so it's possible.

If Londrick are in...I bet they give Kendrick his updated music and tron while he still has his old attire (ala La Res). It'd be hilarious if Deuce re-debuts before the game goes gold and so they give him Snuka's music or something while he's still a greaser.</font> :o

From the moment his signature gong fills the air, The Undertaker captivates WWE fans by his mere presence. The Deadman from Death Valley is usually a man of few words, but he can intimidate even the toughest WWE Superstars with just one glance. His somber persona has been a terrifying trademark of WWE for nearly two decades and no list of WWE all-time greats can be considered complete without Undertaker.

First seen at the 1990 Survivor Series, Undertaker was introduced as the final member of Ted DiBiase's "Million Dollar Team." Since then he has come to be a multiple time WWE and World Heavyweight Champion, and maintained a WrestleMania undefeated streak that stands at an impressive 16-0. The Deadman has defeated such Superstars as Randy Orton, Triple H, "Sycho" Sid, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Bret "Hitman" Hart and Jake "The Snake" Roberts to earn his many titles and keep his WrestleMania streak intact. In October 2007, The Deadman also became the first man to break free from The Great Khali's Vise Grip to defeat the 7-foot-3, 420-pound colossus as well.

Throughout his time in WWE, Undertaker has notoriously disappeared for months at a time; often thought dead and "resting in peace," The Phenom always mysteriously returns to the ring to seek vengeance against those who have sent him away. From Yokozuna to Kane to Edge, Undertaker always finds a way to claim the souls of those who have wronged him.

In addition to his solo success, Undertaker has been quite the team player throughout his career. From his lengthy relationship with manager Paul Bearer to spearheading the Ministry of Darkness (which included the recruitment of Superstars such as the Acolytes, The Brood, Mideon & Viscera), The Phenom has been successful in every venture. He has even earned multiple World Tag Team Championships, standing alongside the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold, Big Show and his own brother, Kane. Source: WWE.com

SVR 09: THQ&A (09.12.08)
Cory Ledesma is here to answer all your questions about the next WWE game.

September 12, 2008 - Fall's a pretty great time of year. Yeah, yeah -- there are all those leaves changing colors, the return of football, and pumpkins or whatever -- but what the fall really means is that it's wrestling game season.

This year's no different at IGN. The SmackDown Countdown (where we debut the SVR roster one character at a time) is in full effect, we've already got our first Friday Fight (a full SVR match fans choose) in the books, and now it's time for the first THQ&A. THQ Senior Creative Manager Cory Ledesma has selected a number of IGN reader questions about SVR 09 and answered them in full.

Want to get in on the action? Want to vote on the new match we feature on Friday Fights? Want to ask Cory a question? You'll need to start checking the IGN SmackDown board then, brutha.

Until then, enjoy this fan-driven interview, but keep in mind reader questions have not been edited so that they may serve as catalyst to scare kids back into the classroom.

TwistedSwanton: Now in this latest video of create a finisher a few seconds before it goes to it we see the create menu. Now is there no create a stable in this years game or is it somewhere else?

Cory Ledesma: Create-A-Stable is indeed still in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. However, it is no longer under the Create Menu, and we have changed the name of it to "Team Management." We will still have all the great features that were found in Create-A-Stable from past iterations of the game.

fl305: Is GM mode in?

Cory Ledesma: The GM mode is not in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. We decided to go in a brand new and exciting direction. Although the GM mode has been in the game for the last three years, we wanted to offer a new and exciting mode that we believe offers more of what our WWE fans are looking for. This new mode, however, does offer some of the same features found in GM mode, but we are presenting everything in a whole new way.

fl305: Are there more than 8 divas this year?

Cory Ledesma: I don't want to spoil the Superstar Countdown, so I would rather not reveal it just now. But I can tell you that we have a huge roster this year. Please check daily to see who is announced next.

fl305: Are there Classic arenas as unlockables?

Cory Ledesma: Yes, we do have a special unlockable arena this year, but I don't want to give out spoilers. You are going to have to wait until someone else spoils it for you or to pick up WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 and check it for yourself.

TwistedSwanton: Will there be alternate attires in this years game?

Cory Ledesma: Yes, indeed. We have about eight alternate attires in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009. All of these are unlockables in our Road To WrestleMania mode.

Phoenixxx73: Do researchers from THQ/Yukes visit these boards as part of their research into what to add or remove for the next game?

Cory Ledesma: We absolutely do! I can say with full honesty that all of our designers are frequent visitors to the IGN message boards. This is one of our best resources and the best way to hear directly from the fans. I occasionally read posts from people who doubt we are looking, but we definitely are. I see your posts about us!

619rko: Will the PS2 version have online? Will the PS2 version include everything that the next gen consoles have (besides the graphics)?

Cory Ledesma: Unfortunately, we are not supporting online play for the PlayStation 2 this year. The PS2 version does include almost every single feature from the next gen consoles. As we continue to roll out the rest of our features, we will let you know which consoles each feature will be supported on.

LeonJuggaloWHF: At the end of the CAF video, when Punk pinned Batista, he didn't just stand up and be motionless while the video went off. Does this mean we will have any control post match in the non-Wii versions?

Cory Ledesma: The interactive victory scenes are an exclusive feature for the Wii version of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009.

dave_150177: We've been told that Caw mode has ridden itself of the "painted on" look, although we were told this in 07 I think... What else has changed with CAW mode, or have they left it the same?

Cory Ledesma: We focused mostly on the quality of the Create-A-Superstar parts. They are all 3-D parts and look fantastic this year. Fans will definitely notice the difference. We have also added some new customization options that give you a little more freedom. More details to come later.

blackcyborg: Has manual targetting been put back into the game?

Cory Ledesma: There is no manual targeting in the game. However, we have put in an awesome system which I like to call a semi-auto target system. This system is auto, but can be also controlled in-game to target whoever you want. We have redesigned this brand new targeting system from the ground up. I think it is near flawless because it is extremely accurate and super easy to use.

ChristianSpikez: Why should I buy this game , I'm not 100 % Convinced that it might not live up to it's hype. Give me some reasons why I should buy this year's game. I'm a big fan of the season mode but it's only three months it makes me wonder , if I should buy this game or not.

Cory Ledesma: Fans of the game know that I have been working on the game for a long time (eight years, to be exact). I have seen some of the best WWE SmackDown vs. Raw features/games and some of the ones that did not deliver on fans' expectations. I can say without any hesitation that this is by far the best WWE SmackDown vs. Raw game I have ever worked on. Now, I'm sure some of the readers are sitting there and thinking, "Yeah, like he's really not going to say this is a great game," or "He's going to say whatever to put the game over." I'm saying as a true wrestling game fan that this is truly the best wrestling game I've ever seen to date. Here are the reasons why:

. Gameplay is solid! I haven't felt this good about WWE SmackDown vs. Raw gameplay in a while. The game feels very well tuned and polished. A lot of that credit goes to Yuke's and our game designer Bryan Williams. We have also improved a lot of match types this year, including my favorite – the Tag Team match.

. Road To WrestleMania Mode is one of the best story modes we have ever delivered. Now, I know some people are complaining that there are only six stories. However, you will not complain at all when you play these storylines because they are fantastic and incorporate a lot of new gameplay elements into the stories. They also have multiple endings, choices and challenges that are all character specific. The mode itself is just a very satisfying experience. I've personally played all the stories multiple times because they are that much fun. As a creative team, we felt that we needed to vindicate ourselves based on the 24/7 mode we delivered last year, so we took the challenge to step up and deliver an amazing experience this year.

. Huge roster. Enough said.

. Mystery features that have not been announced. I know there is a lot of talk on the boards about what the mystery mode is, and rightfully so, because there are a lot of great features that we have not announced yet. These mystery features will definitely win your approval. We will be announcing them in the near future, so as you start to see these features revealed and you think of all the awesome features we've already announced, you'll definitely piece together why this is the best wrestling game ever.

. Create-A-Finisher. If you're a wrestling fan, then how could you not buy a game that has this feature? This is the pinnacle of wrestling game features. This is a feature that everyone wants, and it's finally here!

Pedrolovesdivas: Why can't divas participate in all matches?

Cory Ledesma: The WWE does not want their Divas to bleed or be put in extreme matches that you would not normally find them in when watching WWE programming. This is why we have put this restriction in our game. We apologize to our fans who are interested in this possibility. However, we feel it is important to keep the authenticity of the WWE brand in tact.

mysterio_619_king: CAF looks great and runs very smoothly. Are you even able to create a finisher that say goes into a sturggle submission hold?

Cory Ledesma: We did not incorporate struggle submission holds into the Create-A-Finisher mode. For our first effort of the mode, we decided to dedicate the majority of our effort creating as many animations as we could from the front grapple position. This way we ensure that our fans are very pleased with the amount of content out of the front grapple position, and then as we continue to improve the mode, we can make sure we are offering more and more quality positions and animations. You can say it is more of a quality versus quantity approach. Rather than have a lot of positions and only a few animations, we wanted to have the most frequent and popular position and tons of animations.

<font color=goldenrod>Didn't notice this in one of the vids, guess that answers the J&F question:

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/4936/festusxs7.png

For record's sake, here's a running total of the roster so far, using people with visual evidence/countdown/obviousness:

* = not confirmed anywhere but it's fucking obvious they'll be in either due to a partnership or being a big name

<b>Raw - 19</b>
Batista
Beth Phoenix
Candice
Chris Jericho
Chuck Palumbo
CM Punk
Cody Rhodes
Hardcore Holly*
JBL*
John Cena
Kane
Kelly Kelly
Kofi Kingston
Melina
Mickie James
Randy Orton
Rey Mysterio
Santino Marella
Shawn Michaels

<b>SmackDown! - 13</b>
Big Show*
Edge*
Festus
Great Khali*
Jeff Hardy
Jesse*
Jimmy Wang Yang
Mr. Kennedy
MVP
Shelton Benjamin
Triple H
Umaga*
Undertaker

<b>ECW - 6</b>
Chavo Guerrero*
Finlay
John Morrison
Mark Henry
Matt Hardy
Miz

---

Up to 38 so far then...if there are indeed over 60 in the game (a "huge" roster) and few if any legends, they might finally be able to top SYM/HCTP's rosters.</font>

KingofOldSchool 09-12-2008 11:35 PM

I have a feeling Shannon Moore will be in the game if Wang is.

That's just me though.

Plus add Michelle McCool and hopefully Victoria and Natalya.

Evil Vito 09-13-2008 12:45 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah I think Moore's got a pretty good chance too. Come to think, if the roster is as big as they make it out to be...there might be an assload of teams in the game, around WM time there was:

1. Rhodes and Holly
2. Miz and Morrison
3. Jesse and Festus
4. Hawkins & Ryder
5. Moore Wang
6. Londrick
7. Cade & Murdoch
8. Deuce 'n Domino
9. Cryme Tyme (returned the night after WM so there's a chance)

I highly doubt they all get in...but if the roster is around 65 or so and there aren't any legends it's not unreasonable, if only because I don't see singles guys who are also mega jobbers like Val Venis and DH Smith getting in.</font>

Evil Vito 09-13-2008 11:52 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Elijah Burke confirmed himself to be in the game on the message board of his official website.

I have a feeling he only made it to try and beef up ECW's roster total a bit...but like with Yang and Palumbo, I'm really glad to see he made it. He'll get more use in my game than he ever did on TV.</font> :o

Tommy Gunn 09-14-2008 07:40 AM

No GM mode, no created wrestlers in season mode... Those are the two modes I regularly play. This game sounds shit so far, they've given us a nice big roster and gutted out all the other features in return.

<font color=goldenrod>I'm withholding judgment until I see the mystery mode, which I fully expect to be an old-school style season mode where you can use anybody. Plus its meant to have some GM Mode elements in it so I'm expecting you'll be able to shift the rosters to your liking, get ratings, etc.</font>

Greg Miller posted this on the IGN board

Hey--

So, beyond the daily Countdown, we have some special stuff happening this week.

Monday
- I'm putting up a brief eyes-on of RTW.

Thursday
- You're getting an IGN video feature detailing me playing a real WWE Diva who will be announced today.
- Podcast Beyond -- the IGN PlayStation Team show -- will feature an interview with THQ Senior Creative Manager Cory Ledesma, Creative Manager Bryan Williams, and the Diva.

Friday
- Friday Fight. Polls should open Wednesday morning.

Hugs.
Greg

KingofOldSchool 09-15-2008 03:32 PM

So do they mean that Thursday will be the official announcement of said Diva in the game or that today's countdown will be the announcement of the Diva?

If it's today, then I'm calling Melina...if it's Thursday then Michelle McCool.

Dark-Slicer Diago 09-15-2008 04:21 PM

I'd assume it's Thursday for the Diva because Punk,Jericho,Rey, and Batista have yet to be on the countdown still. After all, he said that the RTW guys are the next 7 guys for the countdown.

There is one thing you can say about Chris Jericho: The guy sure knows how to make an entrance.

His WWE debut in 1999 as the man behind the mysterious Y2J millennium countdown was one of the most memorable moments in sports-entertainment history. But Jericho outdid himself in his "second coming" as the answer to a series of code-encrypted video eight years later. The man who will "Save_US" all is back after a two-year hiatus, and our fans couldn't be happier.

Whether he's been beloved or hated by WWE fans, Jericho has never been at a loss for words. And "Y2J" has backed up every single word he said in his storied career, winning a laundry list of championships and going down in history as the first ever Undisputed WWE Champion.

The son of former National Hockey League player Ted Irvine, Jericho was born in Manhasset, N.Y. but was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada. He trained in Stu Hart's famed dungeon and made his pro wrestling debut at age 19 in 1990. Jericho wrestled around the world and infused different styles he learned in Canada, Mexico and Japan into his own repertoire. He slowly built a following what would become loyal "Jerichoholics" before appearing in ECW (where he briefly held the ECW TV Championship) and then landing in WCW in 1996. Jericho would rise to new heights of stardom – when he entered World Wrestling Entertainment in the summer of 1999.

Jericho's rivalries with Chyna, The Rock, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Rob Van Dam and Christian were legendary for both their in-ring intensity and comic vignettes outside the ring. Hardly any titles were safe when he was around. Besides holding the European and Hardcore Championships, the self-proclaimed "Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla" won the Intercontinental Championship seven times and held the World Tag Team Championship three times with three different partners. But Jericho cemented his place in WWE history on December 9, 2001 at Vengeance, when he beat both The Rock for the WCW Championship and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin for the WWE Championship to unify both titles and become the first Undisputed WWE Champion. Jericho's WWE championship was brief – he lost the title to Triple H three months later at WrestleMania X8 – but no one could take away his accomplishment.

Y2J's WWE career appeared to end in August 2005 when he lost a You're Fired Match to then-WWE Champion John Cena on Raw. Jericho pursued an acting career, continued touring with Fozzy and appeared on VH1's Best Week Ever and I Love The '80s. He has also hosted his own show on XM Satellite Radio called The Rock of Jericho and released his biography, A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex.

Despite his numerous projects, the multitalented Jericho cannot get enough of the squared circle. Behold the second coming of Jericho. Who knows what the rebirth of his in-ring career will bring. One thing is certain, as Y2J would say, WWE fans are not likely to see anyone like him ever – evvvveerrrr – again! Source: WWE.com

Sick new theme.

I watched the last Raw and I swear he didn't use that theme and I can't remember him ever using it.

Wish he did though, pretty awesome.

<font color=goldenrod>I can't be bothered to get the timing down to pause it at the right time but apparently in Jericho's Wii vid, after his entrance...the brief shot of the loading screen confirms Holly as being in (as expected) as one half of the tag champs.

Also, Maria and Lance Cade are shown there too. Guessing Trevor Murdoch is in as well then.

Maria will be the diva featured on Thursday.</font>

Luck is for losers, at least according to CM Punk. Even though his arm is literally tattooed with good-luck charms, Punk believes you make your own good fortune through hard work and intense preparation.

Growing up in Chicago, the Raw Superstar's childhood consisted of watching the likes of "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka exchange words, then blows. Such heated rivalries helped Punk realize that sports-entertainment was where he belonged. Adopting the "straightedge" movement—in which one bases their life around personal development, and avoids drugs, alcohol and a dependency lifestyle — Punk has brought his own style to WWE.

Punk's in-ring repertoire is an assimilation of fighting styles he has learned from his travels around the world. In his WWE pay-per-view debut as a part of Team DX at Survivor Series 2006, Punk brought down the house in Philadelphia where fans showed their respect for his talents.

In 2007, the Straightedge Supertar obtained the ECW Championship by defeating John Morrison on ECW on Sci Fi. In his tenure in the Land of the Extreme, he was considered a top contender and constant threat for whoever was holding the ECW Title. Source: WWE.com

Dave Batista has been "The Animal" since childhood, in temper if not in name. Raised in a rough part of southeast Washington, D.C., he describes himself as being "a skinny kid with asthma and a bad size complex" — and a penchant for getting into trouble with authorities. He spent a few years in San Francisco after his parents separated, until his mother sent the troubled teen to live with his father in suburban Virginia. By the time he turned 17, he was estranged from both parents, living on his own, and still getting into trouble.

For the better part of 10 years, Batista spent his days training and competing as a bodybuilder, and his nights "bouncing in clubs, floating from here to there." (He's still amazed that one club he worked at is less than two blocks from Washington D.C.'s MCI Center, where he defended his World Heavyweight Championship against JBL at SummerSlam in 2005.) His drifting stopped the night he unleashed his explosive temper on two patrons who had attacked his fellow bouncers. "By the time I was finished with them," he relates, "they were lying on the ground with their eyes rolling in the back of their heads. I was very scared they were going to die." They didn't, but the incident did result in Batista's arrest, a year's probation, and his decision to make radical changes in his life.

Enrolling in Wild Samoan Afa's wrestling school in Allentown, Pa., Batista admits that at first he saw sports-entertainment simply as "a way to make a living"— until he was told at a WCW tryout that he didn't have the chops to make it as a wrestler. "That lit a fire under my a**. Wrestling became an obsession that I fell in love with. I completely redirected my training and philosophies, redesigned my body and mental outlook. I just really wanted to be an athlete and an entertainer."

Though his personal perseverance brought him to WWE in May 2002, Batista credits former Evolution colleagues Triple H and Ric Flair with developing "a muscleheaded goofball" into a World Heavyweight Champion, one who backs his composed words and demeanor with an explosive fury befitting his nickname. He considers himself neither a leader nor a follower in the locker room ("I'm just a loner, I keep to myself," he insists), but inside the ring, on the covers of muscle mags like FLEX, and even once against budding Superman Tom Welling on The CW Network series Smallville, "The Animal" is clearly a dominant species. A dominant species who, by the way, has collected more than 50 vintage tin lunchboxes. Our advice: respect this six-foot-six, 290-pound beast and his 1967 Green Hornet sandwich container (sporting Bruce Lee's face on the front), which he cherishes among his most prized possessions. You'll live longer. Source: WWE.com

Exploding onto the sports-entertainment scene in the mid 1990s, the colorfully masked Rey Mysterio quickly redefined the way the game was played in the ring. From his awe-inspiring West Coast Pop to his trademark 619, Mysterio is on the cutting edge of wrestling excellence. The definitive high-flying Superstar, Mysterio, despite his size, is an innovative underdog that fans of all ages have grown to respect and love.

Rey's impressive Championship resume ranks up there with the all-time greats. His World Championship reign complimented eight Cruiserweight Championships, four WWE Tag Team Championships and one Royal Rumble win.

Becoming a World Champion is something he aspired to do all his life. While growing up in San Diego, Rey Mysterio always wanted to be a wrestling Superstar. As a young teenager, he followed his dreams by training in the unpredictable and high-flying Mexican Lucha Libre style of wrestling. His training and early career in Tijuana, Mexico led him to an even bigger stage – first in ECW and then WCW where he revolutionized the fast, high-impact style you now associate with the master of the 619.Source: WWE.com

Gruesome Greggy laid down a challenge to THQ: he'd put his IGN Championship belt on the line in a SVR 09 match against any of the real WWE Superstars who have a championship in the game.

THQ accepted, and the company sent the game's greatest champ: WWE Diva Maria. In the game, Maria's the WWE Women's Champion, and in real life she's a sexy spitfire you probably know from her in-ring skills and Playboy cover.

Dark-Slicer Diago 09-18-2008 06:30 PM

If there's one thing two-time BYWF Champion and Current IGN Campion Gruesome Greggy (also know as IGN Editor Greg Miller) is good at, it's eating chicken wings. However, if there's a silver medal in his talent pool, it goes to the kid's WWE SmackDown vs. Raw abilities.

With a few weeks of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 -- THQ's latest wrestling game that's set for a November release -- under his belt, Gruesome Greggy laid down a challenge to THQ: he'd put his IGN Championship belt on the line in a SVR 09 match against any of the real WWE Superstars who have a championship in the game.

THQ accepted, and the company sent the game's greatest champ: WWE Diva Maria. In the game, Maria's the WWE Women's Champion, and in real life she's a sexy spitfire you probably know from her in-ring skills and Playboy cover.

Can Greggy's SVR fortitude survive the feminine wiles of this femme fatale? Who will be the first unified IGN/SVR 09 Women's Champion? There's only one way to find out, and it's called clicking the play button below…

If there's one thing Candice Michelle is determined to prove, it's that she's not just another pretty face. And she seemed to prove it by winning the WWE Women's Championship and holding on to it for almost three months.

A native of Milwaukee, Candice moved to Los Angeles at age 19 to pursue a career in acting, and after appearing in multiple movies, TV shows and magazines, she applied for the 2004 Diva Search. While she didn't win, Candice was quickly signed to the Raw roster.

Since becoming a WWE Diva, Candice has maintained her beautiful image while continuing to improve her grappling skills. She's worked with legendary Four Horsemen enforcer Arn Anderson to hone her in-ring skills, and her development is evident every time she steps into the ring. From physical battles to the vaunted Lingerie Pillow Fight, Candice is not afraid to mix it up in any way. Her training and her heart have paid off with the Women's Championship.

And of course, there's her impressive resume of external activities as well. Candice has been featured in numerous magazines, from DXL to Stuff, and she graced the cover of Playboy in 2006. In addition, she acts as a memorable spokeswoman for GoDaddy.com, starring in multiple controversial and nearly too hot for TV commercials that began airing during Super Bowls XXXIX and XL.

Candice embodies the spirit of a true WWE Diva, that being a woman who can kick ass and look good doing it. With her particularly striking combination of good looks, in-ring ability and bubbly personality, this the self-professed "Cheese Head" from Wisconsin could someday be considered one of the greatest WWE Divas ever.Source: WWE.com

Gonna be hilarious if the Rock isn't in despite the game being named after his saying...if they put him in they should bust his balls by naming him "The Dwayne"</font>

Evil Vito 09-19-2008 10:56 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Since I'm bored, I'm gonna try to guess all the new guys...based on the claim made in the Podcast that 30% of the roster has never been in a SD game before...30% of 60 is 18, so I guess I'll go with that, though it could be more since the roster is over 60.

Confirmed: Santino, Miz, Kofi, JWY, Cody, Beth, Maria (was in last year but not playable), Jesse & Festus

That's 9...so 9 more...wonder if I can even think of that many.

Brian Kendrick (London was in SVR06 so he doesn't qualify for the list)
Hawkins & Ryder
Jamie Noble
Shannon Moore
Deuce 'n Domino

Still need 2 more...I guess Natalya is possible since she debuted the week after WM. By that token Vladimir Kozlov would also be possible, but I think Colin Delaney would sooner get in as the token "comedy entry" of the year...I'd LOL if his stats were comparable to the divas.</font>

D Mac 09-19-2008 03:14 PM

Koslov?

Funky Fly 09-19-2008 03:17 PM

Kozlov would be bad ass, especially if they put in all of his funky sambo moves.

KingofOldSchool 09-19-2008 04:56 PM

I think the final roster will be something like this, assuming they are leaving the Legends out of this game.

1. John Cena
2. Batista
3. Triple H
4. HBK
5. The Undertaker
6. Chris Jericho
7. C.M. Punk
8. Rey Mysterio
9. Santino
10. Finlay
11. Shelton Benjamin

22. Trevor Murdoch
23. Hardcore Holly
24. Chuck Palumbo
25. Jimmy Wang Yang
26. Mr. Kennedy
27. Umaga
28. The Big Show
29. Randy Orton
30. Edge
31. Chavo Guerrero
32. Kane
33. JBL
34. Kofi Kingston

36. Jamie Noble

41. Paul London
42. Brian Kendrick
43. Deuce
44. Domino
45. Big Daddy V
46. Matt Striker
47. Shad
48. JTG
49. Stevie Richards
50. Tommy Dreamer

Divas

51. Mickie James
52. Maria
53. Michelle McCool
54. Beth Phoenix
55. Kelly Kelly
56. Melina
57. Victoria
58. Jillian Hall
59. Layla
60. Natalya
61. Cherry

That is 61 right there that could be a potential roster list. Then possible throw in the Burchills, Super Crazy, and a few others. And then I reckon guys like DiBiase Jr., Maryse, and Koslov could be DLC.

"The Samoan Bulldozer" is not just a clever moniker for Umaga – it's what he is. Perhaps no other Superstar in WWE lives up to his billing as completely as the 348 pounder.

Originally brought to WWE in 2006 by former ECW General Manager Armando Estrada, Umaga comes from a long line of Samoans with a rich history – and a brutal path of destruction – in sports-entertainment. Immediately upon his debut, it was clear that the Samoan Bulldozer would make a lasting impact, targeting and brutalizing the legendary "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Umaga was bloodthirsty and powerful. Three-minute warnings fell on deaf ears with him. He only knew one speed – full-speed ahead. Maybe he was too simple to comprehend – or maybe he was just fearless – but he wasn't intimidated by WWE heroes and legends. Flair and the rest of WWE knew at that moment that a new monster was on the loose.

Since then, Umaga has battled WWE's elite, from John Cena to Triple H and Jeff Hardy, among others. His epic battles with Cena and Hardy over the WWE Championship and Intercontinental Title are modern day WWE classics. And perhaps more than anyone, Umaga pushed Triple H to the limit. Many times The Game needed help walking back to the locker room after his battles with the Samoan Bulldozer.

Umaga is not a typical plodding big man; he is a heavyweight who is deceptively quick and can be as comfortable on the top rope as any cruiserweight. These traits, combined with his penchant for sadism, make Umaga very dangerous and perhaps that's why he has been used as a hired gun occasionally by Mr. McMahon. Source: WWE.com

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah that's pretty much what I think it'll be KOOS...except for Stevie, who I unfortunately just can't see making it unless they really wanted to make up ECW's numbers. I'd replace him with Elijah Burke (who confirmed himself on his website I think)

I also think Ric Flair will get in, either as the only Legend in the game or just thrown on the Smackdown roster. I could definitely see him in someone's RTW story as an unlockable or something.</font>

Dark-Slicer Diago 09-19-2008 10:05 PM

Greg Miller posted this on the IGN SmackDown board in reference to Mark Henry's theme playing in the past 3 vids or so.

Hey--

Many of you have been wondering what's up with Mark Henry's "WHOA!" being in every entrance. There are two schools of thought about it on my end: 1) The WWE is going to add a "WHOA!" to each entrance before SVR 09 ships and the game just put it in to be ahead of the curve or 2) Mark Henry is a ghost and is haunting the TitanTron.

In reality, it's an error on IGN's end. I capture the video and give it to the video team. The video team takes my videos and put them in a template for the Countdown. Apparently, they clipped the WWE logo part of the template from Mark Henry's entrance. When they put each day's footage in after the WWE logo, there's a dissolve where the WWE logo fades out -- the sound doesn't. So, the WWE logo clip is about one "WHOA!" too long on the audio end.

Sorry for the confusion, the game's entrances aren't broken, etc. The video team's already created an entered the clips through Wednesday, so enjoy your final three WHOAs. After that -- if not before -- we'll be back on track (see: Whoa-less).

Hugs.
Greg

EA have recently had a lot of success with FIFA online, which is free and comes with 2 Chinese teams. You have to pay to get more teams, stadiums and create a team/player parts. It's hardly an "MMO" even though it's billed as one, all you do is go to lobbies and challenge people.

I presume Smackdown will be very similar and will presumably also be Asia only.

Why are a few of the images here like almost black? End of a video?

Also, if the secret mode involved a general Season Mode for the rest of the roster and/or the CAWs, my faith in this game will be restored once more. No legends? A Season Mode for the rest of us? 60+ wrestlers (like always )? Tag team specialties? Hell yeah.

My thoughts exactly Terran. :y:

Evil Vito 09-23-2008 09:17 AM

<font color=goldenrod>If all the tag teams get in that I think will be in, I think they'll break up the Countdown with one Raw team and one SD/ECW team each week:

This week: Cryme Tyme and DnD
Next week: Cade/Murdoch and Jesse/Festus
Week after: Londrick and Hawkins/Ryder
Final week: Rhodes/Holly and Miz/Morrison (both sets of default tag champs)

Out of all those, DnD are certainly the least likely to get in...but if there are no legends I think they'll get in just because it adds another tag team to the roster for use in the new tag match.</font>

Or even like HCTP where you could go to the GM and demand title shots for the various titles.

As a side note, I've been playing with PCSX2 (PS2 emu for the PS2) and got HCTP to try different things with it and try to optimise the speed. Jesus, even playing at 40fps, it's a much better game than any Smackdown Vs. Raw.

At 7-feet tall and more than 300 pounds, the Big Red Monster has been tormenting opponents since his debut, and even that was huge.

Following months of speculation, Kane made his first appearance on Oct. 5, 1997, at Bad Blood. There, he ripped the cage door off during the first-ever Hell in a Cell Match between Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. Kane and Undertaker then stood toe to toe during a chilling stare-down. The Big Red Monster wore a mask, and he hid his body in attire designed to conceal hideous burns from a fire supposedly started by his half-brother Undertaker. Then, Kane kicked the Deadman in the stomach and Tombstoned him - allowing a bloody Michaels to pin Undertaker for the victory.

Despite the unprovoked attack, Undertaker vowed he would not wage war against his own flesh and blood in front of a national audience. But Kane's assaults continued, and when he set Undertaker ablaze inside a casket at the 1998 Royal Rumble, the Phenom was left with no choice. At WrestleMania XIV, the half-brothers met for the first time in singles competition, but it was only the beginning.

Now that he is back on Monday Night Raw, the Big Red Monster is intent on showing the entire WWE Universe that he is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with. Source: WWE.com

I know what the REAL secret mode is...

It's not some lame season where you can use CAW's and the whole roster, nope.

It's....

THE BRADEN WALKER EXPERIENCE!

Yes, follow the man, the myth, the legend known as Braden Walker as you guide him to great success in the WWE.

You start off with a Knock, Knock joke mini game.

Then you wrestle Armando Estrada.

Then you play an Introducing yourself mini game involving Matt Hardy. Say the right things and he'll call you a Wildcat, if you mess up...he won't know who you are!

Then you will wrestle James Curtis before getting future endeavored!

This action packed mode will feature voice overs of Teddy Long, Matt Hardy, Armando Estrada, and two fans who yell "WHO ARE YOU?!" Also for replay value, you can even introduce yourself to other guys in the locker room via free roam mode.

Now you can play the unaired footage of Braden Walker introducing himself to John Morrison, Mike The Miz, The Tazz, and Joey Styles!

Also for the first time ever on the PS3 and XBox 360, you can control Braden Walker's entrance. Yes! You can choose to either walk straight to the ring or stop and high five fans. The possibilities are endless!

Disturbed316 09-24-2008 01:17 PM

Sounds awesome.

I try not to shit on a game, but why is the animation still shitty in the Smackdown games? Kane hasn't been that ripped since maybe 2002. The pyro looks a lot better, but it does bug me that it kind of sounds like someone is tearing paper
