They would not have done anything with Pennington this year.

Clemens also hasn't been that great. Being a backup under Favre will help him "develop". They would have been like 5-11 I bet if Clemens started this year.

Also just the publicity factor. Everyone is talking about and watching the Jets now.

True, it will help with people following the Jets, how many Favre jerseys do you think get shipped to WI?

I just think they still wont make the playoffs with him and to give up a pick which is a young/potential player for a gun slinger who will now be in a "system" where before he was the "system" just didn't make a lot of sense to me... they'd have been better with chad and keeping the pick. but time will tell.

Bingo, so the Jets will be worse then before because next year they wont have a pick and they'll have no QB. Plus, had they played it right they could have gotten some type of conditional pick for Chad.

It's possible Manning might not play the opening game.

Hanso Amore 08-18-2008 10:33 AM

There were people in Buffalo calling for the Bills to go after farve.

Which I think is retarded. For a team like Chicago, that has an established playoff calibur team but sucks at QB, it would work, but for Buffalo and the Jets, 2 rebuilding teams, it is retarded, because even if he plays solid, you are still needing a Franchise QB. I dont think the Jets are that much better with Farve, because they need so much more.

Trading for Farve is something you do to win NOW, gambling the future for present success, which is exactly the opposite of what the Jets should have been doing.

that's another thing, Favre had said many times in GB when they had younger back ups it isn't his job to teach... so I'm not sure that would help Clemens, especially if he doesn't have Favre's arm and tries to play the same way.

Really? Even if he does I'm not worried, he had a bursa sack removed... he should be fine.

that was my point with the Jets, they weren't just a QB away from competing for a SB... Chicago it would have made sense, Tampa it would have made sense. NYJ it's silly, he doesn't win them a Division, he doesn't put them in a SB and they gave up a pick and a year where they could have been grooming Clemens (if that's their guy)

Mr. Monday Morning 08-18-2008 01:45 PM

Mangini could be a losing season away from being fired though.

Triple A 08-18-2008 09:58 PM

lol, 30-3 Giants after less than 16 mins of football.

They aren't really gambling anything though. At worst a second round pick, in return for a year (or maybe 2?) of Favre. I will take that. Like I said they weren't gonna do shit with Pennington or Clemens this year. IT would have been a terrible year regardless. I don't think Clemens is gonna be their franchise QB of the future so they don't have a QB regardless. It is not like they are trading away a ton of promising young players and three draft picks for Favre. It's one draft pick for a winning season and a trip to the playoffs (10-6 WATCH) and thousands of Favre jerseys sold, and a media circus around the Jets. They are on the front page of every paper in NY. Not the Super Bowl champ Giants.

The positives far outweigh the negatives. I would take this deal any day EASY

Yeah first team threw down. Domenik Hixon solidified himself a roster spot. Two receiving TD's and a return TD in the first quarter. Big ups to him. Nice to see him play that well with/against the first teams.

ANYWAYS, want to see more Kenny Phillips and Andre Woodson in the second half.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-18-2008 11:06 PM

Hixon had a nice grab in the back of the endzone

This guy Syndric Steptoe for the Browns has been real impressive too, too bad they already have an all star kick returner in Cribbs because he could be pretty dangerous in that role.

Gonzo 08-19-2008 12:10 AM

I like the way this Danny Ware guy runs. If he keeps this up, the Giants ought to keep him on and release Reuben Dreughns. (sp?)

Evil Vito 08-19-2008 12:45 AM

Didn't see any of the game...a little bummed to see Woodson only got to throw the ball once, but it makes sense because they wanna settle the #2 QB job asap.

Any questions about Hixon can go out the window now. Still gonna be a close battle for the other WR spots...interesting that Hall and London didn't catch anything.

Gonzo 08-19-2008 12:48 AM

I don't even think that Hall and London got in that much. I saw Hall in there, but no passes went his way I believe.

Hixon definitely locked a roster spot. If he didn't I'll shit myself.

Boomer 08-19-2008 01:06 AM

Danny Ware was pretty sick 3rd stringer for UGA. He was the only football player I ever knowingly had in one of my classes.

He hasn't been keeping his shit together though. But he has the talent.

Draft picks are worth so much more than money these days, especially to a NY team with deep pockets IMHO.

But yes, they are going to make mad money off this, good point.

I just dont see it panning out. Even with Farve I dont see the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets finishing any higher than 3rd in the AFC East, no way does that get them a playoff spot. Maybe next year, but Farve will be even another year older, so then in the end, they get 2 years of Farve, and are abck at square one.

BTW, does anyone see the Farve/Rodgers/Brohm thing playing out like Montana/Young/Bono? :) Does that mean the Jets can plan on getting Brohm in a few years?

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-19-2008 11:56 AM

No, I don't think Rodgers is going to be the good in the NFL just basing it off where he came from. Pretty sure every single first round QB from the Jeff Tedford system has come in and failed in the NFL

Kris P Lettus 08-19-2008 03:13 PM

Matt Ryan is gonna start the next Falcons preseason game.. Based on his performance and Herrington and Redman's, they'll decide on the opening day starter..

Kyle Orton was named the Bears regular season starter..

SammyG 08-19-2008 04:03 PM

K, starting to get really worried Jackson won't play this year.

Kris P Lettus 08-19-2008 04:03 PM

SammyG 08-19-2008 04:23 PM

No, no it would not.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-19-2008 06:18 PM

He'll play, he might not come back until the very end of camp but he'll play

ClockShot 08-19-2008 06:18 PM

Falcons cut Hollywood Joe Horn.

I wouldn't mind the Broncos picking him up. We could use a vet. Besides, Horn, Marshall, Jackson, Stokley, and Colbert wouldn't be a bad crew.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-19-2008 06:33 PM

Patriots cut Marcus Pollard today too, figured he'd stick around but the dude is pretty old

RP 08-19-2008 07:48 PM

And Eddie Royal too

Kris P Lettus 08-19-2008 11:28 PM

Horn wants too much money.. His last year with us, he was hurt and was hella outshined by Colston.. He went to ATL thinking they'd have Vick and that flopped in his face.. Now he's a past his prime superstar who wants too much money for what he's brought for the past couple of years..

Are you serious? He got picked up by a team? Stima, you've just made my day.

I was hoping the Cards would have taken him as a return guy because I don't see Breaston/Arrington panning out. It could really help us out now too since Boldin wants out (no one saw that coming though). He had so many good returns at UofA. I thought he was going to be in NFL europe forever or something.

GLORIOUS NEWS. Now maybe they can cut him so the Cards can pick him up.

RoXer 08-21-2008 08:30 AM

And as far Boldin leaving, if he wants to then let him. I really think money is the issue at hand but he claims it's something else. I'd wish he stick around for 1 more year and if the Cards do jack shit (which they will) then he should ask for the trade in the off season. But if he really wants out then the Cards should shop heavily.

Eagles had great looking offense against the Pats. Special teams were awsome as well.

Kris P Lettus 08-23-2008 12:48 PM

I've been hearing the Pats have looked like shit on both sides of the ball this preseason.. Not only because Brady is hurt, but I've heard their D has looked horrid against every team they've faced..

:-\

VonErichLives 08-23-2008 01:07 PM

Trips, I remember the Pats were 12.5 -110 each way.

not sure about the others, also remember not all casinos are the same and if a not of money comes in on one side they may adjust the line or payout.

:-\

Offense has been ok, the D-back field has been an issue, the Line has looked good, but I have a fear of Harrison and Lynch out there at the same time getting spun like tops...

the little I watched last night no one seemed to know how to tackle.

Mayo has looked good though.

that and I put little stock in pre-season for an established team, good teams with a core that has been together a few years just need to not get injured.

Heck, last year I don't think Moss even played in the pre-season.

RP 08-23-2008 05:36 PM

I dont think the Pats are making the playoffs this year tbh. Not with that defense. Not in the AFC.

I'd bet you money but I know you'd never pay.

By the way, (and this is a question, not a digg at the Colts)there is a rumor going around that Manning is in worse shape then thought and he had a 2nd surgery to clean out an infection and is still having swelling problems and when he tries to move the knee to rehab it causes more swelling.

the source is Michael Lombardi, current SI writer and former NFL exec that worked in player personel for a few teams and considered a reliable source...

I know the Colts have denied he had a 2nd surgery...

So, RP... what's the word in Indy? (people have fantasy drafts ya know!)

RP 08-23-2008 06:42 PM

Everyone thinks its a rumor. He said to of done a few walk thrus with the team. I'm worried sick. If i have to hear Jim Sorgi announced as our starting QB on Sunday Night Football in the first game of the new stadium, i might kill myself. I dunno. I almost say roll the dice with Fatboy Lorenzon. Atleast he can sling it. Sorgi is like a deer in headlights.

I'm hope its not true, but everyone in Indy thinks its not a credible source. But Indy has a history of being shadey with reporting the truth about there injured players. We heard all last year that Marvin could play if it was the playoffs, then he gets in the playoff game obviously injured, probably cost us that game with his fumble. We coulda been up 10 going into half time. I think Peyton will be back, but i'm worried.

Anyway, stalling out in the redzone still but that'll change next week (SHOCKEY).. I was disappointed that he didn't play but whatever.. Predator looked amazing.. Our pass rush was there tonight, which was nice.. Porter looked better than Toast.. It was funny seeing him (David) playing that late in a preseason game but I'm all for it.. PR Cruiser is a stud.. As is Stecker.. Devery and Green both looked subpar compared to Moore and Meach..

Good game..

Jets defense looked mad good.

Also Favre looks good and Ratliff again.

Thomas Jones is fucking terrible and I hate him and his 3 yard per carry average. It is like he doesn't even try to find a hole and just immediately falls forward as soon as he gets the ball.

SammyG 08-24-2008 06:08 AM

Gonzo 08-24-2008 05:27 PM

*crotch chop* to whoever was arguing that Ryan wouldn't start. Told you it would be close to week 1.

#1-norm-fan 08-24-2008 08:04 PM

I can really see the Giants surprising everyone for a couple weeks, just really going balls out to prove they can still win but then just falling apart after the first few games.

And as for Matt Ryan starting, Atlanta will be a playoff contender next year. Should be fun to watch him.

And watching Jets games is just weird now. Seeing a QB in a Jets uniform move around like that and throw bullets is just strange... not to mention when you see "FAVRE" over the number 4 on his jersey.

RP 08-24-2008 08:05 PM

Bobby and Dwight are back tonight.

Speaking of receivers, they weren't running any routes right last night, Plax better man up and get in the game

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer treated for broken nose

CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer broke his nose during Saturday night's pre-season game against the New Orleans Saints, but coach Marvin Lewis said he should be ready for the regular season opener.
Lewis said in a statement Sunday that Palmer had a small crack in one of his nose bones and it took doctors about 10 minutes to put it back in place.
Palmer is listed as questionable for Cincinnati's pre-season finale Thursday at Indianapolis, but is expected to start the opener Sept. 7 against Baltimore.
The team said fourth-year quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will make his first Bengals pre-season start if Palmer is unable to play.
Palmer was sacked three times by the Saints in the first half, the last on a safety blitz by Kevin Kaesviharn with two seconds left. The quarterback walked off the field with blood spilling down the front of his face, his nose already showing a prominent bump. He didn't return for the second half.
Palmer got knocked to the ground five times during a 27-10 loss to Detroit a week earlier.
He was 11-of-16 against the Saints for 105 yards, working without Pro Bowl receivers T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson due to injury. Two of their backups also were hurt in the week leading up to the game.

That speculation was going on when he was still 'considering' retirement. I don't think he is coming out of retirement. Who knows what his personal workout regiment is like? Theres two weeks until week one and he has been decidedly retired for a while now so I doubt he is keeping in 'football shape'. I think the Giants chances of getting Strahan back are slim to none. Believe me I would love for him to come on for another year but I just don't think its in the cards.

Whatever Eagles have a starting pro bowl defensive end and the Giants don't.

It's the Eagles year.

McLegend 08-25-2008 12:14 AM

New York is falling apart.

Yankees won't make the playoffs.
The Mets will somehow collaspe.
Osi get hurts.
Brett Favre will throw like 50 ints. That team probably willl be fun to watch though cause of Fave so that's not really that bad.
Then Mike and Mad Dog are done.

McNabb is having a party right now.

McLegend 08-25-2008 12:14 AM

Winston Justice is even gonna be invited.

Kris P Lettus 08-25-2008 12:19 AM

Actually, I bet McNabb is eating Campbell's Chunky Soup with his mom right now..

I guess he would consider that a "party"..

McLegend 08-25-2008 12:20 AM

I would want to go to that party.

OssMan 08-25-2008 12:21 AM

Remember how the Giants are defending super bowl champions lol

McLegend 08-25-2008 12:22 AM

Nah actually I don't. Since they are so not talked about by the Media.

I actually forgot they won.

OssMan 08-25-2008 12:25 AM

How about the Eagles win a superbowl or something, I am sure the MEDIA will talk about them a lot so people will remember their win!

Crimson 08-25-2008 12:29 AM

Tear 'em up Romo

McLegend 08-25-2008 12:32 AM

If they ever do I'm sure they will mention the fans booing or something.

And I wouldn't care at that point anyway.

Why did you not include 1960 when the Eagles did win the Championship?

But I have had to listen to all of you for the past 8 months from jubliation to the sudden ridicilous complaining about how the Giants aren't getting enough attention. Even though everyday I've had to hear about Giants are getting overlooked which would mean they are getting enough attention.

Then after the Super bowl everyone everywhere is a Giants fan.

Then Eli Manning is loved by everyone? WTF

Hanso Amore 08-25-2008 12:54 AM

LOL! In the face!

Gonzo 08-25-2008 08:28 AM

I have always loved Eli and never played the no respect card. I may have mentioned it in discussions but I don't bring it up habitually. Anyway, Giants > Eagles.

According to Schefter, Strahan was asked about it and he said he wouldn't rule out a comeback...so we'll see.

If he came back, I'd assume he'd have to get back into football shape first...so move Kiwi to the line while using Strahan as a situational pass rush guy until he's ready to start.

Then when Stra starts, you let Kiwi play primarily at LB, move him to the line for passing downs like they did with Tuck last year...all kinds of things you can do.

OssMan 08-25-2008 12:14 PM

Legend is still pissed that Osi Umenyiora sacked the Eagles 6 times in a game

Gonzo 08-25-2008 03:30 PM

I heard on the Van Pelt / Tirico show that Coughlin hinted or indicated at moving Kiwi back to DE. I'm not sure when this was supposed to happen, but I assume sometime today or last evening. I hadn't heard anything like this since yesterday, so this must be a new development. Bum bum bum.
