tl;dr version: Only buy if you're a fan of terrible writing, running down corridors and occasionaly pushing buttons.

In fact, since you have a PS3, why not re-buy all the PS1 FF's. Start with Tactics then play any order you like.

I still see value in FF13, but in a way I see value in ODST even though it's not like regular Halo. A lot of people got sideswiped s'all. All the stuff I hear about the writing and lack of gameplay is overblown (and I like Destructoid's Jim Stirling). I've also read glowing reviews on the same game, so all I got is my own thoughts on it when the reactions seem so polarized.

I will say this, I wouldn't go into FF13 expecting traditional JRPG conventions - having gathered so much intel before the fact. I'd still play it for the general experience, and there's some concepts I'm personally interested in creatively speaking. Also:

BTW, im almost done with this game, played every FF with the exception of 12, and my opinion is that it is a good game.

ill go as far as saying the story doesnt draw you into the characters the way others have in the past, but most of you seem to be shitting on this one as the worst final fantasy EVAH. So they tried to blend in elements of RPGs from the states and JRPG, and?

well, you put your list out there like its something to live by, when it was just more of the same...your opinion.

Everyone has opinions, i suppose the best way to find out if the game is good is count the good opinions and the bad ones, and see who has more.

Played this at a friends earlier tonight, and have to say I was quite impressed. Was weary like everyone about the game featuring no towns, and limited exploring, but what I got to play of it was extremely fun. Gonna have to rent this and give it a go through.

Sonic Heroes wasn't bad because it was different Sonic Heroes was just plain fucking bad, it's not like the attempts to recapture Sonic Adventure in Sonic The Hedgehog were any better.

I've also heard people complain that FF12 was too different and bad as well, I personally liked FF12 for trying to be different but I disliked the story and characters to it.

I don't really see what is that hugely different about FF13 anyway, ok we have a new battle system that happens with every FF game no big deal, but we also have the linearity but I ask but FFX was also remarkably linear up to a certain point, just as this game is.

It's definitely not the worst FF ever (That will forever belong to FF11) but it's not the best one ever, it probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Kojima's either a genius or a madman. He's the only guy who could take an action game of MGS caliber, make a J-pop music video - complete with soldiers sharing screen time with the chick, and not hurt the series image.

Honestly, without comparing it to every other FF, this game did an amazing job and I'm really glad I got it. Can't wait for FFXV

It is "on". I am still playing and haven't givne up yet.

The gameplay adds stuff later on, like most games, I didn'st say id din't think it was fun i thought the first 4 hours were cool, but not as good as after the tripple threat battles and paradigms come into play.

yeah, my only issue is that the game picks up its strategy and gameplay kinda late into the game.

Late? what? it's like 4-5 hours in, that's like 1/5th of the way through

chapter 11 is when you really need to work your paradigms. There are only 13 chapters in the game.

Finished this last night and really enjoyed it. Was the first FF game i've completed so I'm pleased with that at least.
