That is awesome.

Fuck, need to get a wii again.

Emperor Smeat 06-29-2011 07:04 PM

A bunch of info regarding the game's story was revealed in the recent Famitsu magazine with some of it being stuff already talked about while the rest being new.

SPOILER: show
Quote:

- In this game, Zelda starts out as a childhood friend of Link's -- and not royalty. "She's not a princess this time," Aonuma said, "which is something I'll pretty much have to put forth right now in order to talk about this title. She's a childhood friend, but she goes away in the midst of the game and it's Link's job to search for her."

- The starting plot unfolds quite a bit differently from other Zeldas. "This game's plot is something like a school drama, you could say," Aonuma noted with a laugh. "The flying sequence at the E3 demo is Link competing against his classmates. One of them looks kind of a like a bad guy, as you saw, and he shows up in other ways in the game too, since he has a major thing for Zelda."

- Despite this, though, the game progresses in a somewhat similar fashion to a previous Zelda title. "The game starts in Skyloft, this city that's floating in the air, and you'll come back to this town multiple times," Aonuma said. "Things are always proceeding along in town, and in that respect it's very much like Majora's Mask. Like with Majora, there are a lot of game events involving the townspeople that get intertwined with the main story. Link, Zelda and their other friends all go to the same boarding school, and you've got teachers and a principal as well. It's a bit of a different setting from previous Zeldas."

- Does everyone in Skyloft have their own personal avian transport? "It's the custom for each person to have one bird. Link has a red one, and it's actually a special and very rare breed of bird -- which is something that makes him get picked on, like 'Why do you get this fancy bird and we don't?!' But it turns out that you need that red bird in order to access the mainland. So the hand of fate gets involved here, like it always does in Zelda games sooner or later."

- Ghiraham, the enemy Link fought in the E3 demo's boss battle, is definitely going to be an important character in Skyward Sword. "The demo shows when you first meet him, and plainly he's looking down at Link, stopping his sword with his fingers and so forth," Aonuma noted. "In terms of story image he's kind of like Dark Link [from Ocarina of Time]; he sees right through Link's moves in battle. You can sort of swing your sword wildly and still hold your own against a lot of foes, but there's no way you can beat Ghiraham like that. You need to keep your distance and watch his moves, and it's something you'll need to change your strategy for. I think he's a pretty good change of pace as bosses go, and he'll change gradually throughout the game."

- Will Ganon show up? "This game talks about the birth of the Master Sword, and it touches on why Ganondorf showed up. If you play it, I think you'll get some understanding on that. It connects to Ocarina, so if you play Ocarina of Time 3D and move on to this game, I think you'll catch on to a lot of things."

More stuff is in the link but those were the major things revealed.

Kinda feel like I have lost complete interest towards this game in the last week. I think like I have heard about this game for so long and I am not feeling it anymore. Probably change my mind once is out.

Emperor Smeat 07-25-2011 05:05 PM

Eiji Aonuma in an interview with Nintendo Power reveals Ganondorf/Ganon will not have any role in the game nor any potential references to make it seem like he could pop up as a surprise boss at the end of the game (ex. Four Swords on the Gamecube).

Quote:

"Ganon typically appears in a Zelda game when the story is centered around the Triforce. This time around, the Triforce sort of takes on a different meaning and plays a different role in the story. So because of that, Ganon will not appear."

Also revealed was the design behind the new villain was meant to be an anti-Ganon in terms of appearance and fighting style.

Quote:

Lord Ghirahim, who was purposely designed to act as a contrast to Ganon's very masculine and powerful characteristics. The funny thing is that actually came up in the conversation when the interviewer asked if Ghirahim was based off of (David) Bowe. Aonmua agreed about the similarities between the wizard and the British rocker and went as far as to say that Ghirahim was given a "unisex-like, genderless feel."

And the final big announcement is Skyward Sword will replace Ocarina of Time as the start of the Zelda storyline but it wasn't revealed if the game will be the absolute first or if a new game will replace it in the future.

The release date has been announced as the 20th of November 2011.

Drakul 08-19-2011 05:32 AM

The UK, oddly, get's it on the 18th. Two days before the US.

Nintendo announces Skyward Swords will join the small list of Nintendo-made games to get its own collector's edition.

For $69.99, the collector's edition will include the game, a soundtrack CD containing music from the past 25 years of the series, and a golden Wiimote with built-in motion plus.

For those who want just the game at $49.99, Nintendo announces only the 1st run or shipment of the game will come with the soundtrack for free as a bonus.

I wanna live in that world. And have adventures.

Emperor Smeat 09-29-2011 07:08 PM

Nintendo released a lot more screens, trailers, and info mostly relating to the first 2 hours of the game.

Nintendo managed to tie in the 25th anniversary of the series into the story because the town of Skyloft is in the middle of celebrating a town tradition that started 25 years ago.

Also confirmed is a tutorial mode for the game occurs for most of the first hour of the game.

Quote:

1. Introduction: The new game’s storyline begins in Skyloft, an island town suspended high in the sky, on the day before young Link™ is to compete in a major bird-flying competition. The winner of the contest will earn the honor of taking part in a special ceremony with Zelda™.
2. Link and Zelda: Friends since childhood, Link and Zelda have always shared a special bond. Events in the new game will add even more depth to their relationship.
3. Groose: Link’s nemesis at school, Groose, plays a significant role in the early moments of the new game. This bully of a character not only threatens Link’s chances to win the bird-flying competition, but he also reveals a jealous streak toward Link and Zelda’s special bond.
4. Fi: Early on in Link’s new adventure, he encounters Fi, the spirit of the powerful Goddess Sword. Fi’s guidance proves to be crucial as Link goes forth on a challenging quest that will ultimately result in the creation of the Master Sword.
5. Zelda’s father: Gaepora, Zelda’s father, is the headmaster of Link’s school. As such, he has knowledge of the history and legends of Skyloft.
The game still is on track for its November 20th release date.

A bunch of new screens and info was revealed by Nintendo.

The whip from Spirit Tracks and the bug net from Link to the Past return but each have mutli-use purposes to go along with the theme of every weapon having more than one use possible.

Also shown off was a few more tribes/races in Skyward Sword and potion making has a lot more combos and types available in previous games.

SPOILER: show
The trailer had a lot of stuff in it from other games. Though thing's seem to be conflicting a bit. Or maybe I'm looking too hard.

0:13 The woman is a Sheikah, she has the symbol on her clothing and face.

0:21 Does anyone else think the huge emblem in background looks like that area of TP that has those ruins in the desert? Pre-ruin, obviously.

0:50 I'm not saying this is what it is but that rising wall with text on it reminded me of the Royal Tomb in OoT. There was something similar in appearance there.

0:52 That harp looks like the harp used by Sheik in OoT.

0:55 That boss looks a lot like a boss from WW.

1:02 Flooded forest (like Forest Haven in WW). I was started to think SS could be what happened between OoT and WW but other stuff makes me think otherwise.

1:11 Stuff like this. I know we don't know but, to me, that looks like a Zora but as if it's not evolved into it's humanoid shape yet. That would mean pre-OoT. Maybe it's some kind of Zora god or elder or something, who knows? Actually, it probably is some kind of god or elder. We saw a Zora in one of the first trailers.

1:18 Creation of the Master Sword.

1:30 That thing behind Zelda looks like another version of the Mirror of Twilight that Tp Spoilers:
SPOILER: show
let Midna return home.
Given how the villan I forget the name of warps around with Twili like effects (the squares and stuff), it might be connected.

1:35 Sheikah woman defending Zelda.

I think the game will be about the creation of the Master Sword, the beginning of the Sheikahs roll as Royal protectors, the coming togethor of all Hyrules races and Hyrule as it is in OoT.
I'm also thinking this bad guy that I can't remember the name of, is a Twili or whatever they were called before becoming the Twili. Ancestor of Zant, maybe.

Nintendo already stated SS is the earliest known game in the Zelda timeline and a prequel to OoT so the flooded forest is most likely the origins of the Kokiri Forest. The water could have eventually formed the Zora's place after it left the area since in OoT there are still streams of water in the forest.

Edge: 10/10
"A triumph."
"How apt that this ultimate tale of hero-making should see Nintendo’s hardware become the console it was always meant to be."

Official Nintendo Magazine gave it 98%, the highest for any Wii game and called it the best Zelda ever. I usually ignore "official" magazine reviews, but calling it the best Zelda ever is strong stuff.

Drakul 11-09-2011 11:38 AM

Good to hear. I'm hoping I get my copy. Cancelled my pre order and getting the LE from Nintendo to make up for not getting my concert tickets in time. Nintendo are great at making games but they suck at customer service so I'm not sure if it'll even turn up.

Looking forward to give the game a go. I just hope no one posts spoilers without warning.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-09-2011 12:59 PM

These are the scores so far. Online review embargo is up on 11/11

EDGE - 10/10
Game Informer - 10/10
ONM - 98%
4News.it - 97/100
Gamepro Germany - 93%
GamesTM - 9/10 - "Playing the Wii out in style"

Wasn't pumped after the last 2 E3's, but since the pre-TGS conference it's been building. Can't wait now, even if I do get Saint's Row 3 and Arkham City on the same day.

Also noted from some people saying that pointing is pure motion based, it doesn't use the sensor for those tasks at all.

Kalyx triaD 11-09-2011 01:48 PM

Gawd damn, Nintendo.

OssMan 11-09-2011 03:27 PM

I ordered the limited edition or whatever but I wonder how much a Wii in Peru costs :o

Emperor Smeat 11-09-2011 04:02 PM

A few places like Screwattack and I think Giant Bomb have said the story feels a bit darker like Majora's Mask than a normal Zelda game mainly due to the supposed main villain always talking about wanting to murder people than just find a treasure or gain power.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-09-2011 06:10 PM

Just been messing with a demo that was leaked. Not played too much to not spoil it, but mechanically, it's right as hell.

Lost the pointer once, that will need some getting used to, but it's exactly what I imagined the Wii version of Twilight Princess would be like. No waggle.

Kapoutman 11-09-2011 06:48 PM

Preordered the limited edition. Can't wait for this.

Nintendo and Penny Arcade collaborated on an official Skyward Sword comic series for the official Zelda website. The first piece in a 5-part series was released yesterday.

Quote:

"A few months ago Nintendo approached us about doing a project for them. I was interested, but my schedule was full at the time. Then they told us it was Zelda. The business guys were hesitant to put any more work on my plate but I told them I had to do it. Like a little kid offering to do chores I promised I would work late and come in on the weekends. I had to draw Zelda!"

Skyward Sword became the fastest selling Zelda game in the series history with about 535,000 copies sold just in the US alone since last week.

The record before was Twilight Princess which had the benefit of being a launch title for the Wii and also had a Gamecube version released at the same time.

Will definitely be getting this soon, fuck wwe 12.

Poit 11-29-2011 12:33 AM

I've been playing this. It's pretty fun, but the sword controls are a bit maddening.

Drakul 11-29-2011 02:21 AM

Yeah the sword controls are not great for combat.

When you have to do a specific swing, it sometimes reads it as another type of swing. This mostly happens during combat. Trying to move your sword to ready a specific swing is sometimes read as you trying to pull off another swing.
It doesn't really help when you're surround by 5 enemies and can't afford to mess up.

My only other problem is the lack of control we have over the camera. To look anywhere we have to turn around and hit Z. No control of the camera and no minimap to compensate, isn't a good thing.
Fighting bats, the game doesn't like to look at them when you lock on so it's hard to know when they are fluttering about and when they are going to dive bomb you until the last second.

Other than those two issues, I'm really liking the game.

Droford 12-01-2011 04:02 PM

Im kinda pissed that I gotta spend at least $100 to play this since I don't have the fucking motionplus shit which no other game I have will use. Really ticked off because I saw TRU had the Red Steel 2 that came with the motionplus on clearance a couple weeks ago for like $10 which would have at least saved me $20, now its either buy the new remote for $30, buy the WiiMotionplus game bundle for $50. The gold wiimote bundles are pretty much sold out.

Emperor Smeat 12-06-2011 06:17 PM

Game breaking glitch was discovered and it only occurs if the third dungeon area is the first area explored and the player learns the Thunder Dragon song before the other songs are attained.

SPOILER: show
1. At the beginning of the quest, go to Lanayru Desert to retrieve the song of the Thunder Dragon.

2. In the Lanayru Mine, speak with Golo the Goron.

3. Complete the Thunder Dragon’s event, and receive his song.

4. Before heading to the forest or volcano regions, speak with Golo in the mine again.

5. At this point, the forest and volcano events will no longer occur, making it impossible to continue.

As of now Nintendo is suggesting as a quick solution to not to visit Golo before having the first two songs learned in the game.

Are they going to fix that?

LuigiD 12-06-2011 06:38 PM

I don't think any Wii game has ever had a patch..so the answer is probably..no.

Londoner 12-06-2011 06:41 PM

Bloody useless wii yet again.

Emperor Smeat 12-06-2011 07:05 PM

Would have to wait for the next system update to see if Nintendo adds in a patch like they've done for a few games although that wouldn't arrive until early next year (or in the 2nd run production of the game).

I think only Black Ops has patches although that was done from Activision's network and not Nintendo's own servers.
