One thing I haven't noticed anyone mentioning is how you can just take your time with each case (so you never feel rushed to solve any of them) and free roam to unlock new vehicles, find golden film reels and discover landmarks. Granted, that's not a lot of "misc." activity, but '47 L.A. in the game is fucking massive. :y:

#BROKEN Hasney 05-22-2011 02:40 PM

Hated the last case, but it was all worth it. Amazing ending that I never seen coming.

Oh, and as a heads up, there's a pretty substantial scene after the credits.

Purgatory 05-22-2011 06:59 PM

Yeah, I just finished the Silk Stockings case and then drove about trying to find a few Badges...I managed to find one, so far. lol

Very awesome game so far. My last case I got an "Unbecoming"...I think it's my 2nd one...What happens when you get 3? anyone know?

I don't think anything happens. However, rack up $47k in city damage in a single case and you do unlock an achievement/trophy.

LoDownM 05-22-2011 08:41 PM

Hmm, kinda disappointed with the ending.

SPOILER: show
What with the dirty vice cop not being busted and some of the others in the conspiracy not being busted either

Just got to disc 3. 2nd Vice Case.

That's why I loved it. The bad guys don't always have to get their comeuppance, some people get away with things. The fact that they good guys didn't win made it something I loved all the more.

I know that good guys don't always have to win, but it would've been nice to see Roy get a little payback after pretty much ruining Cole's life/career.

I loved this game when I was first playing it, but lately it's almost daring me to like it. The biggest, most glaring flaw in this game comes with the interrogations. The logic used is so convoluted, it's more wondering how the game is going to connect the dots rather than reading a lie.

In one question, I asked a guy if anyone had any reason to kill his wife. He said no. Seemed pretty straight, so I chose Truth. I was wrong. Okay, I didn't read him right. So I try it again and go with Doubt, since I have no proof that his wife wasn't cool. And again I'm wrong. So finally I pick lie, and in my accusation I bring up how she was strangled with rope I had found in his house. How could I guess the questioning would go from whether or not she was a cool chick to "I found rope"? This is just one example; this kind of thing happens alot.

I still play it, though. I'm trying really hard to like it, despite the glaring flaws.

The Mask 05-24-2011 06:33 AM

the rope isn't a reason why though, that's just a reason to suspect that he did it.

that said i did get really pissed off at times when i was all YOURE A LYING LIAR, YOU LIAR and backed it up with evidence which seemed to make perfect sense only for it to be all "nah u should have said doubt lad"

The Mask 05-24-2011 06:33 AM

oh yeah i bought it saturday night and completed it last night :$ gutted that you can't play on after the ending, i didn't know that. now i'm gonna have to run through the bastard game again.

Lara Emily 05-24-2011 06:47 AM

Each desk (at least I think each desk) has a free roam mode. Just load that

Disturbed316 05-24-2011 01:31 PM

Working my way though Vice at the moment and loving it. Just done the Naked City case that came as an extra and it was pretty decent, although some of the in car conversations are obviously done by other actors and just sounded wrong.

If you haven't yet, you should always start each case at the scene finding every scrap of evidence you can. If you accuse someone of lying and don't have the right evidence to back it up that will end your interrogation of them short, making it more difficult to crack the case.

Also, on an ep. of AOTS last week they had a game break segment with Adam Sessler from X-Play...one thing he suggested was to always go back and replay each case. If you did well the first time, and got let's say, 4 or 5 stars, see what happens when you choose the wrong option or miss a key piece of evidence or cause massive amounts of damage to the city (which affects your duty fitness rating at the end of each case). Those are the kind of things where you'll have to look if you want replay value.

Take-Two (Rockstar's parent company) views L.A. Noire as worthy of franchise or series status. They didn't say how high of a status the series would be but its assumed to be lower than their premiere franchise of GTA but did mention it being equal to Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar has already said in the past they want to expand the game with more cases as DLC and mentioned they loved working on the game due to it being a bit different than most Rockstar games.

Quote:

"We certainly don't want to be subject to [comparing] all of our new releases of new franchises against the extraordiany success of Red Dead Redemption," said Zelnick. "Every title stands alone. We have every reason to believe L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company."

He would not, however, elaborate on sales specifics.

"No matter how you slice it," he said, "Ii's a very successful release. To be able to say that again is extraordinary. This management team is just immensely grateful to Rockstar for delivering another superb title and 2K [Games] for all the franchises they've been delivering as of late. One can never take that for granted. The hit ration of this group is extraordinary."

Yeah I'm already thinking about the sequel. If not a direct sequel then maybe one set in New York. Or modern times?

Drakul 05-25-2011 05:22 AM

Got this from ASDA last night for £30 on my brother-in-laws recommendation.

I've only played the tutorial cases so far but I like what I see. I can see myself enjoying it a lot.

The one thing I'm not so sure about is the clue hunting. The pad rumbling and the sound effect takes some of the searching out of it. Maybe the music getting louder the closer you got to a clue would work better.
I've not used it enough to form a definite opinion, though.

I was pleased to see destructible enviroments when I
SPOILER: show
went to some guys apartment about the shooting in the alley. I grabbed him by his shirt and throw him towards his coffee table, which broke pretty convincingly.

You can turn off the chimes and rumbling while you're searching for clues if you want for a more realistic experience.

I've got it turned on for my first run through but when I repeat the cases I'll have it turned off.

Just finished the Homicide desk. Damn that last case was fun.

I wish the Playstation Store was up and running. I wanna play the Consul's Car and Naked City cases.

Drakul 05-25-2011 11:51 AM

Liking the game so far now that I've played beyond the training cases.

Got two odd glitches though. One of Phelps lines in a cutscene was missing. He moved his mouth and nothing came out.
The other was Phelps randomly dying when I was chasing a couple thugs and I was about to climb down a ladder.

G 05-25-2011 10:46 PM

Only 6 cases in, but this game is fantastic. The facial animation is stunning. Stupid PSN being down preventing me from downloading the dlc it came with.

CSL 05-25-2011 10:55 PM

Haven't really been too blown away with the story/got caught up with it but just finished the last Homicide is outstanding and everything's suddenly picked up.

Tried that crime again and Phelps died in the same spot. Tried a third time and realised there was a guy behind a crate shooting me. I'm an idiot:$.

You just start a case from a desk and roam about. Nothing actually called "free roam".

Evil Vito 05-26-2011 09:41 AM

Yes there is and it's explicitly called free roam too :p From the main Menu select Cases from there pick a desk that you've finished completely freroam called Streets of L.A. (Free Roam) will be ta the bottom. You can get it for sure after you beat the Traffic Desk and you have your Traffic Desk partner with you as you play (I imagine this means once you finish Homicide you can free roam from the homicide Desk with your Homicide Partner and the same with Vice and arson but I haven't gotten that far)

Any of you guys been crazy enough to go after the Public Menace achievement/trophy? That's looking like the last one I go for.

LoDownM 05-27-2011 05:52 PM

Shouldn't be too hard to do, just drive up and down sidewalks and run into other cars for 45 minutes.

Yep and you can replay street crimes or do ones you may have missed.
