his match with Steamboat at WM 3 was truly amazing

pretty much stole the show from Hogan-Andre

Mercury Bullet 05-20-2011 09:22 PM

Wow totally in shock today. Just wow :(

MIZantine Empire 05-20-2011 10:05 PM

couldnt believe it either, this man was always one of my favorites. he was never boring. can you imagine him telling his story at the pearly gates? the wrestling world, and the IWC lost a legend. im gonna snap into a slim jim and remember the good ole times with the macho man!

DLVH84 05-20-2011 10:36 PM

I respect Randy Savage more than Hulk Hogan for these reasons...

1. He was always willing to put over talent. (examples: Ricky Steamboat, Ultimate Warrior, Diamond Dallas Page)
2. He shows his age gracefully, instead of hiding it.
3. He knew when to retire.

Me and my father grew up on Randy Savage. My dad watched him starting out in the early 1970s, especially when he was in the Georgia Championship Wrestling territory. When I started watching in the late 1980s (1988, to be exact), he was already in the WWF. And I saw his career from 1988, until he retired in 2005. I also have a rare VHS of a couple of his matches from the CWA in Memphis, which included a cage match with Jerry Lawler and a tag match, where he teamed up with his brother against The Rock & Roll Express (and it's the one where he piledrives Ricky Morton thru a table).

Loose Cannon 05-20-2011 10:42 PM

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, this gutted me today. didn't ever think Macho Man would EVER die. Hulk Hogan, Macho Man and Ultimate Warrior. Those are the three that I credit with hooking me on wrestling when I started watching. Savage will always go down as one of the best in every single category you can think of in your "best of" lists.

always will have his Mania 7 match with Warrior in my top 5 matches list, but he put on so many good one's.

we definately lost a Legend today

RIP :(

Loose Cannon 05-20-2011 10:53 PM

my brother just sent me this. don't know if you guys posted it. haven't read this thread yet

pretty funny, especially the Star Wars one

Savage was never my favorite, but he was always entertaining. He was a harder worker than most of the main event of his time, and actually carried the Warrior to an excellent match at Mania 8. Sure, he was pretty nuts, but at least it was a good kind of nuts that didn't seem to damage himself or those around him. A selfish part of me is kind of grateful that he didn't ever become a complete mockery or disgrace so that we can actually remember him fondly and warmly. Still, far too young. The world is a lot less Macho for having lost you, Randy.

Thunder Savage Go 05-20-2011 11:02 PM

Tragic. Lost one of the greats today.
Like he said in one of his interviews: "The Beat Goes On"

Damn. That sucks that he went out like that.

but....I can't help myself, and this is meant with no disrespect, but his catch phrase was "Ohhh Yeahhh", but his last words were probably "Ohhh Noooo"

Yeah for some reason I can never remember which was which.

I wonder how Stephanie McMahon is taking this. Savage made her a woman. It does suck though. Why did Buddha have to kill the macho king? Why couldn't he have had Santino Marella go away instead bc he is stupid.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-21-2011 12:12 AM

Shut up your face Santino is awesome. Cobra!!!!

First Jeritron and now the Macho Man? :( It is said that deaths usually come in threes. So, who is to follow?

Okay, for the record, once and for all, the Stephanie McMahon rumor is false. The real reason Randy left the WWF in 1994, was because he wanted to wrestle more, while Vince wanted him just as a color commentator.

Dorkchop 05-21-2011 01:22 AM

I'm super bummed. Savage was not only an awesome character, but a great wrestler. Although he became a little wacky, I respect that he stopped wrestling when the time was right. It sucks that we never got to see him back in WWE even if it was for a HOF appearance. Maybe Savage wanted to be off WWE tv. Who knows.

I wonder if the heart attack was caused by prior damage to his body. Still sad regardless.

Autobahn 05-21-2011 01:22 AM

I actually feel for Hogan - love him or hate him, he does looks genuinely gutted by all of this.

This is terrible news and a bad week for this website as a whole.

I also partially agree with Aguakate regarding Savage and the HOF. Whilst he should have been in there years ago (and should still be put in even now), there will always be that stigma that his death is what got him into the HOF when his career achievements alone should have been enough. But whats done is done...as long as he is put in there either way.

RIP Macho Man Randy Savage :'(

Randy Savage.

Despite whatever rumours have been circulated about him, if they are true or note, does not affect his legacy.

In my opinion Randy Savage deserves one of the biggest sendoffs/memorials in WWE history

If what he did to Stephanie McMahon is true, then, yes it is a scar on his legacy.

"At the end of the day" Randy Savage is one of the most influencial pop icons of the 1980's and 1990's. If Vince McMahon knows what is right for busienss (and I believe he does) there will be a Randy Savage package shown at the Over the Limit pay per view, and followed by a RAW tribute.

You cannot deny the fact that Randy Savage is an absolute icon.

Wishbone 05-21-2011 03:57 AM

Damn this..... this really sucks R.I.P. Macho Man :'(

Gertner 05-21-2011 09:21 AM

Savage was definitely juicing late in his WCW run so I'm sure that played a role. Plus, we all know wrestlers from the 80's weren't exactly the most healthy bunch.

In honor of Savage dying, Steph probably shoved a Macho Man Action Figure up her twat.

Asmo 05-21-2011 03:13 PM

Damn. Just came home and logged on to read Gertner's post about the NWO. Couldn't believe he led with Savage and then found this thread...

RIP. You will be missed!

Shisen Kopf 05-21-2011 03:15 PM

Is that darkie Randy Savage imposter gonna die now too?!

Was just e-mailed about what happened. He will be sorely missed.Like others said here, whether you liked him or not,he was an icon in professional wrestling. The WWE had better do the right thing(and I think they will)in having a tribute on RAW AND ON SMACKDOWN!,and also put him in the HOF.If the WWE just gloss over his death and not give it the send off he deserves then shame on them and they will lose fans, firends, and respect.R.I.P Macho Man,may you be with Miss Elizabeth giving the big elbow on the angels n devils.

While i agree with point 1 its hard to agree with the other 2, he techncially didn't retire at all and judging by the vids on which he talked about 2011 being his year it would seem he would possibly have made an appearence in WWE sometime this year (maybe in a type of match, who knows?). Also much like Hogan he was dying his hair and beard for a long time, its only since his wedding pics surfaced a year or so back he was grey.
