Gematsu might have accidentally leaked out the next set of surprise characters since one of their sources supposedly leaked to them a list of all the new characters.

They've been careful to state the list is unconfirmed but half of the list has already been confirmed (Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Mega Man).

SPOILER: show
At least two from the other half supposedly include Namco's contribution and something teased from the debut trailer.
SPOILER: show
Last week, Gematsu was tipped off about Nintendo’s E3 character reveals for Super Smash Bros. But since we were unable to confirm the validity of our source, we refrained from posting the information. Of the six characters we were told would be revealed, three have been confirmed: Mega Man, Animal Crossing Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer. The three left remaining are Little Mac, Pac-Man, and your Mii.

Kept the link in the spoiler for those who don't want to be spoiled but also don't want to be tempted to click on the link if it was outside the tags.

Fignuts 06-13-2013 04:34 AM

Pac-Man is a given. Love Punchout, but I would have liked King Hippo or Piston Honda over Little Mac. Mac is kinda boring.

Curious to see what the Mii character entails.

I'm actually more pumped about new stages. That's what makes Smash Brothers fun. Having all the creative stages, with unique enviornmental hazards. Not to mention sweet ass old school stuff like the nes donkey kong and Mario levels.

Poit 06-13-2013 12:04 PM

Fignuts, maybe that should be in spoiler tags.

SPOILER: show
Miis fight in Find Mii using a sword and various magics, so that could be a good start for a moveset, perhaps.

Also, I want Geno!

Big Vic 06-13-2013 12:16 PM

speculation:
SPOILER: show
King hippo can still be in Although I'd rather see Bald Bull. Would kinda lol if Mike Tyson was an assist trophy and had the Tattoo on his face

IGN's E3 interview with Masahiro Sakurai revealed a few interesting tidbits.

Currently no plans for DLC characters, 3DS development has been facing several serious problems, and very likely both versions are launching at different dates.

The official name for both versions is "Super Smash Bros for 3DS" and "Super Smash Bros for Wii U"

Also following Brawl with not including any touch/waggle-based controls for the game.

Sakurai also confirmed to me that tripping, a significant and frustrating element from Super Smash Bros. Brawl had been removed. The series creator described the gameplay direction of Super Smash Bros. Wii U and Super Smash Bros. 3DS as being somewhere between the faster, more competitive style of Melee and the slower, more casual design of Brawl. No doubt that will be good news for those wanting a better compromise.
THANK YOU!

Joystiq's interview with Sakurai revealed even more details mainly in regards to the compatibility between both versions:

Quote:

- each version of the game has completely different stages
- cross-platform play wouldn't work
- each version will interact with one another
- take characters you've customized and transfer them to the Wii U version
- customizatios won't be costumes and they won't be something that players have to unlock
- different costumes would take away from what makes each character unique
- wants to avoid boring, repetitive tasks
- "stress free, easy connectivity" between the two versions
- no comment on level editor

When The Villager nets Mario and the camera gets a close up to his face I want the splash screen to say "you gon' get raped"

Kalyx triaD 06-13-2013 08:50 PM

Yeah he's pretty creepy, and I know Nintendo's aware of this.

Villager look pretty badass tbh, non-chalant about fucking shit up and just grabbing peoples shots.

Emperor Smeat 06-14-2013 08:57 PM

Masahiro Sakurai had a 3rd interview at E3 this time with Polygon with the only new details being the single player campaign will return and no longer need to have to play the mode to unlock all the character intro movies.

Quote:

There will be a single player [campaign], but it won't be like the [Subspace Emissary] mode in Brawl. One thing we can do with the Smash Bros. series that's unique to us — because we have all these different disparate characters brought together — is we can create that sort of fan-movie experience as a special gift. But now those things are posted on the internet, it doesn't really become a gift for people who played the game.
Quote:

What we decided this time around, we're just going to have [those movies unlocked] from the beginning. We're going to have a movie for Wii Fit Trainer, The Villager and Mega Man and they'll be viewable right at the beginning, you can watch those right away.

Emperor Smeat 06-26-2013 05:12 PM

According to Sakurai, the original plans for the Villager was to be as a playable character for Brawl but ended up being removed due to them having problems making him work well as a fighter.

Also revealed the decision behind Mega Man's NES-like appearance was due to the choice of his move set being based off of classic Mega Man bosses. Had they just wanted to use a normal moveset, he would have been given a different look.

Patches are being considered for the game in order to allow balancing updates to be done but only when actual balance issues occur and not because a lot of people online complain or hate a certain character(s).

Quote:

That said, I think the patches are an important tool to maintain the balance of a game, once this last released. As you surely already know, the reputation of some characters, who are considered weak or powerful, is something to which players are very interested on the internet.

And sometimes, you have to ask if these perceptions are correct, or if people simply to join a popular opinion and to follow the movement. We really want to make our characters each have their specificities, with statistics that compensate their strengths.

We want to highlight these individual characteristics, but at the same time, players must also be asked whether they accept the reputation of a character on the internet. This is something that we will also have to take into account when creating patches.

I'd like to see the composite of the different look for MM

Drakul 07-12-2013 04:34 AM

Returning character

Drakul 07-25-2013 02:53 PM

Sakurai said the game has no story mode and no FMV cutscenes. His reason was that people uploaded Brawls cutscenes to YouTube.

Kalyx triaD 07-25-2013 03:05 PM

I was just discussing that with my buds a while back. Makes sense.

Drakul 07-25-2013 03:23 PM

I would have liked some kind of story, especially as the logo is clearly the Smash logo hitting a planet as if it were a flaming comet, causing the planet to crack.

http://www.smashbros.com/en-uk/image...ogo-sb-3ds.png

I was thinking we'd get some kind of story about the world of Nintendo shattering and some kind of back story as to what the Smash logo is or what Smash balls are or something.

I hope we get some kind of adventure mode, at least.

Kalyx triaD 07-25-2013 03:36 PM

Just a logo. I imagine there will be some single-player mode, just not a far reaching cutscene filled adventure.

Drakul 07-25-2013 04:22 PM

For a series that has always had a basic logo, it's pretty unusual and specific. It's not just a bunch of shapes that looks a little like something. It's clearly a planet being wrecked by the Smash logo. That's why I thought it might be something to do with a story mode.

Now that there is no story, it's a strange logo choice.

Kalyx triaD 07-25-2013 04:28 PM

Why strange? It's just a logo.

Drakul 07-25-2013 04:31 PM

Every other Smash game logo has just been

SUPER SMASH BROS
(subtitle)

This Smash logo is a picture, which is unusual for SB. I'm not saying it means anything now that I know it has no story.

Why did that piss him off so much?

Savio 07-25-2013 04:49 PM

I still wish they put a subtitle on this one or at least a "4"

Think it was something about the long amount of time spent making those videos and wanted people not to be spoiled before they got their chance to play the game. Either that or the general reaction of nobody really caring about it after the 1st viewing.

Ultra Mantis 07-25-2013 06:17 PM

He sounds like an emotional guy. I wonder what his polygon count is.

Drakul 07-26-2013 06:25 AM

I've read a few people saying they think it was probably Nintendos call and not his due to this whole YouTube thing Nintendo are going through.

Kalyx triaD 07-26-2013 07:01 AM

That makes no sense. Nintendo had issues with Let's Play vids not cutscenes which were not affected by their spazz out a few weeks ago. Sakurai hinted at this move long ago so I'm not surprised by it.

Savio 07-26-2013 03:06 PM

I will say creating a story for all these characters must be pretty hard but they did it once so it must be a bit easier now, I hope Tabuu comes back.

Drakul 08-06-2013 05:56 AM

This image was posted on the official Smash Bros site. Could be a hint to the next character or maybe just a stage.

SPOILER: show

Kalyx triaD 08-06-2013 01:41 PM

Anybody remember that layout? Seems SNES era to me. Mode 7-ish.

Drakul 08-06-2013 01:53 PM

It was mode 7. People have manged to match it to an exact level already.

This being the first screenshot to show something we didn't see in the trailers combined with the fact we have a Nintendo Direct tomorrow makes me think we'll be seeing a character reveal. Assuming it's related to a character.

SPOILER: show
If I had to guess it would be just the stage and maybe an assist trophy being revealed. Maybe even a special "Mode 7" feature for the stage during fights.

Don't think the series has any real memorable or well known characters to get an actual fighter be revealed.

Kalyx triaD 08-06-2013 05:50 PM

The first Pilot Wings had some guy...

Drakul 08-06-2013 05:57 PM

The 3DS Pilotwings had a character. Mii.
