the Rockies struck out 12 times against Scott Baker today

incredible

Selig awards 2012 All-Star game to Kansas City which means Fenway lost out on celebrating its 100th anniversary with the All-Star game. I think another AL West team was the only other contenders.

 Selig said Boston had good reasons in their bid but decided Royals had a better bidding package.

I think a team should make a playoff appearance in the last 10 years to be able to host the All-Star Game, or at least post a winning record.

McLegend 06-16-2010 11:12 PM

 Boston didn't get something for once

Good for Kansas City

Or not have an owner who is a penny pincher.

One reason KC had a new stadium built was the owner/group made a promise to bring an all-star game to the city since Selig has been known to give out all-star games to teams with new stadiums as an "econimic boost" to owners/cities.

83-79 in '03.

DaveWadding 06-17-2010 12:06 AM

seems to me that Hunter Wendelstedt had it out for the Reds tonight.

Jeritron 06-17-2010 01:58 AM

Good for KC. I haven't been there, but my brother has and he say it's a great park.

As a Boston fan, obviously I'd like to see it in Fenway, but whatever. It will be back eventually.

I would contend that it would have been nice to have the 100th Anniversary gimmick, and then Kansas City could host it any other AL year...
Then again, Boston did host it in 1999, and as a baseball market we have plenty to be happy about, so I am happy for the KC fans.

Skippord 06-17-2010 02:09 AM

I would love to go to KC for that game

might have to get money before 2013 so I can

Jeritron 06-17-2010 02:15 AM

I am currently wearing a throwback Orioles shirt. I just thought Droford would like to know that.

ClockShot 06-17-2010 07:50 AM

Kaufman Stadium is a pretty ballpark. Good for them.

Looking at Wikipedia, Boston had it last in '99, the Royals in '73. The team going the longest without hosting, the Mets. Who hosted back in 1964.

Looking back this sounds a bit ridiculous. Kauffman Stadium is a very nice stadium and I'm happy for the fans in Kansas City. Hopefully they get to see an AL victory since their team has been so terrible for so many seasons (except '03 :$ ).

RP 06-17-2010 09:44 AM

As crazy as it seems, I dont think the Cubs are out of the division yet. 6.5 back dont sound so bad considering Lee and Ramirez havent been hitting. Fukudome and Soto have cooled off. Dempster cant go past the 7th without imploding and Zambrano...fuck i dont even know what the fuck is wrong with Zambrano.

They're still in it though. The N.L is completely up for grabs.

Evil Vito 06-17-2010 09:45 AM

So what do we have now?

2011: Arizona
2012: Kansas City

And that's it? Hope Citi Field gets 2013.

Jeritron 06-17-2010 05:09 PM

It probably will Vito. Although the NL has a few great new parks

Jeritron 06-17-2010 05:16 PM

I was just reading that Citi Field is favored to get it in 2013 by far, and Minnesota's new Target field in 2014.

I guess The Cubs are also making a push to get it in 2014, to commemorate Wrigley's 100th anniversary? That's an AL year though. I doubt they'd spring for that if they didn't choose Fenway for 2012.

The Marlins and Nationals are both requesting the 2015 game. Marlins have a new park opening in a couple years.

OssMan 06-17-2010 05:26 PM

If they didn't have the allstar game at gay ass old Yankee Stadium in 2008, then it would make more sense for New York to get one in 2013, but if they do that in it's in New York twice in five years. They have to give one to Citi Field and of course the new Yankee Stadium, so that's gonna be 3 times in no more than 10 years that it's in New York.

Supreme Olajuwon 06-17-2010 05:41 PM

fuck New York, they still need to have one at Great American

Skippord 06-17-2010 05:44 PM

that would be an awesome Home Run Derby

Supreme Olajuwon 06-17-2010 05:45 PM

you know what would be the worst homerun derby ever

Citi Field

Boomer 06-17-2010 05:47 PM

Chipper Jones is holding a presser in 15 minutes. Enjoy your Larry chants while you have them.

Jeritron 06-17-2010 05:50 PM

I'd like to see a Fenway Park Home Run Derby outside of the steroid era

Jeritron 06-17-2010 05:52 PM

Now I really wish the AllStar Game was coming here again soon. I didn't get to go to the game or derby last time around, but I did attend FanFest and it was fantastic.

Petco

Evil Vito 06-17-2010 07:36 PM

Yeah, Petco would be worse than Citi for a Derby.

Citi really hasn't been all that bad power-wise. The Mets just haven't hit for much power in general.

Though I will say, I love it when the Phillies come in and they hit like 2,732,093 balls to left field that would have been 10 rows deep in Philly but are innocent fly-outs at Citi.

You're right- I know we probably sound like the stereotypical never die Cubs fan, but in a division that the Cards could be running away with, with our win today, we're 6 back of the Cards, and 6.5 from the Reds, who I don't take as a real threat. We just got to expand on this amazing 2 game winning streak. Keep pitching well- if we could somehow win yet another series from an AL West team, things could be looking up.

Droford 06-18-2010 12:04 AM

Rumor is that the Os might get Jason Nix and potentially Carlos Quentin from the White Sox for a AA Pitcher.

hmm

Also, Buck Showalter is the leading candidate for the Manager spot.

McLegend 06-18-2010 12:09 AM

Hey how bout the Phils taking 2 out of 3 from the Yanks. Pretty good yo

Evil Vito 06-18-2010 12:44 AM

Mets 10 games over .500

Nice.

Well so much for that, apparently he pitches tonight and J.D. Martin pitches tomorrow against Peavy.:(

Skippord 06-18-2010 07:03 PM

Troy Tulowitzki is out for 4-8 weeks

I have to go contemplate suicide for awhile

Nervous Ferret 06-18-2010 07:56 PM

Nats/White Sox on MLB Network. Good god Stephen Strasburg, good god. 7Ks in 4 innings with a good pitchcount. He appears to be "toying" with a semi-legitimate Major League lineup. Natinals are still losing 1-0 though

Innovator 06-18-2010 09:54 PM

Can we DOA Park?

Innovator 06-18-2010 10:15 PM

WHAT THE FUCK, WILL SOMEONE WAKE THE FUCK UP AND HIT THE BALL

ClockShot 06-18-2010 10:20 PM

Dammit. Andy and Javy gotta take baseball bats to everybody in that bullpen not named Mo or Dave. No way in hell do they deserve this.

Ace gotta get back pronto.

Emperor Smeat 06-18-2010 10:42 PM

Nice pitchers duel between Nats and White Sox sort of ruined by the last Nats bullpen pitcher who ended up throwing as many balls/hit balls as he did with strikes. Obama was at the game since even he wanted to see Strasburg pitch.

Red Sox win today in Manny's return to Fenway. Not liking how Bard still having issues with the random HR he likes to give up but at the same time he's getting much better in the closer role when they need him.

Evil Vito 06-18-2010 11:03 PM

8 in a row. Fuck yeah.

Great game for Tak.

Droford 06-18-2010 11:04 PM

LOL

Apparently people (READ FOX) want Strasburg in the All Star Game.

Despite the fact that Capps is shoe in to be the Nats rep and thats all they'll probably get.

Not to mention the fact he's only played in 3 games...hardly worthy of ALL STAR label.
