Apparently the Browns were also interested in Bradford... who knew there'd be a market coming off two ACL injuries

Evil Vito 03-11-2015 10:04 AM

Of the 5 players the Giants signed yesterday, all of them project to be backups. All received multi-year deals for a fair bit of guaranteed money.

Vereen will play a big role in the offense, but everyone else? I don't know. Dwayne Harris is a good special teams but the other three just seem to be depth and nothing else...the lineman they got (Marshall Newhouse) got benched by Green Bay for sucking a couple years ago and the consensus in Cincy is that he wasn't very good either.

Not sure what Reese is doing. He needed to have a good draft anyway because it's been proven throughout history that free agent spending sprees rarely amount to much in the NFL, but in this case it seems like he's spending good money on guys who won't have much of an impact on the field just for the sake of spending money. Clearly he sees something in them but it's still a head scratcher.

Innovator 03-11-2015 10:09 AM

In Reese We Trust....?

Clerk 03-11-2015 10:34 AM

Buster Skrine to sign with Jets? Why not stay with the Browns. Going from playing with the best CB in the league (Joe haiden) To going to play with the second (Darrelle Revis) Why?

I guess. On one hand it's tough to question a guy with 2 rings who had the team consistently in playoff contention until 2013.

Still, I think he's easily the biggest culprit for last year being as bad as it was. The OBJ pick will probably wind up getting him several years of job security though. Plus there's the whole team policy on not firing General Managers ever.

Innovator 03-11-2015 11:37 AM

I just want him to get some competent guys for the o-line. That's all I want in the offseason.

Evil Vito 03-11-2015 11:45 AM

Yeah, I'm still really hoping they go with O-line at #9 overall. The only downside I've heard is that scouts are torn on a lot of the top tackles in the draft, saying many of them project more as guards. Frankly though I always found the reasoning for not drafting interior linemen early to be a bit daft if it really is your most clear weakness.

I can't lie though, the thought of teaming up Amari Cooper with Cruz, OBJ, and Randle definitely had me intrigued. Randle is in his walk year and you don't know how Cruz will be coming back from injury, so it could be jstified. Gotta imagine the Harris signing takes that out of contention.

Innovator 03-11-2015 12:15 PM

Ryan Fitzpatrick to the Jets

YES

poopfromweiner dude 03-11-2015 12:36 PM

Wasn't there a Grantland article "proving" that he is the worst QB of all time who has ever started 50+ games or something

I don't care, I LOVE Ryan Fitzpatrick

Ruien 03-11-2015 01:01 PM

COLTS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going to STOMP the Pats this year. Still worried about Seattle but maybe Green Bay or Arizona will knock them out of the playoffs.

Nark Order 03-11-2015 04:30 PM

No. Kaepernick, Anquan Bolden, Chris Borland, and Torrey Smith are just going to play every position and hope for the best.

road doggy dogg 03-11-2015 04:47 PM

Colts offense looks real scary/good right now

Andre and T.Y. on the outside, Moncrief as #3. Gore starting and "Boom" playing change-of-pace... Luck orchestrating the whole thing.

Ruien 03-11-2015 05:06 PM

So hope Murray goes to the Eagles and clobbers Dallas constantly. Stupid Chip Kelly taking on Matthews. Going to have 3 RBs if Murray goes there.

He's still trying to get Mariota.

Eagles aren't off the Demarco Murray train yet.

Droford 03-11-2015 07:56 PM

I'm afraid some team that doesn't get Murray is going to panic and go after Forsett leaving the Ravens with old man Steve Smith at WR, injury plagued Bernard Pierce and Dennis Pitta at RB & TE. Beyond them they have nothing on offense.

Was hoping Forsett would make his way to Indy but Gore is a nice piece instead. Love Forsett's running game.

Nark Order 03-12-2015 12:34 AM

The 9ers are pretty much in shambles. We got Darnell Docket and Torrey Smith but lost Frank Gore, Patrick Willis, Perrish Cox, Mike Iupati, Michael Crabtree, and probably Justin Smith and Bruce Miller. No word on Chris Culliver yet but it isn't looking good.

I have no idea what 9ers fans are supposed to be thinking right now.

Nark Order 03-12-2015 12:39 AM

Have a feeling they wouldn't even be negotiating with Ahmad Brooks if all of this chaos wasn't going on.

Jed York pretty much forced himself into a corner as far as the Bruce Miller situation goes. He got on his soapbox during the Harbaugh departure with the "we need to win with class" speech. To ignore a domestic violence situation would basically be admitting that winning with class doesn't really matter, they just didn't like Jim Harbaugh,

Truth be told, I don't even care about losing Crabtree. He is kind of a baby and doesn't produce nearly enough to justify his ego. Not a bad player by any means, but nobody should ever build a franchise around him.

Ravens fans aren't doing any better. The offense looks awful and then you realize they also lost 3 starters on defense in Canty McPhee and Ngata. All of the names rumored as potential replacement don't exactly stir up much excitement. Ozzie Newsome usually is really awesome at this but it's going to take something short of a miracle to keep the team competitive even in a division where the other teams are not making big moves to improve at the moment.

Chris Canty is not a big loss. Very little production last year.

McPhee I loved, but he was gonna get paid somewhere else no matter what.

Ngata loss stings, but at least draft picks are coming. Also Timmy Jernigan should be back healthy and I think he can fill that spot nicely.

I'm more worried about the offense (and the secondary, but I'm assuming the draft helps that).

Ruien 03-12-2015 07:30 AM

Eagles will probably cut Sproles if they can sign Murray. Or trade him. Would be hilarious if they traded Matthews after signing him.

Ruien 03-12-2015 11:31 AM

How can you be a Dallas fan and be happy about the possibility of losing Murray? Especially when Murray said he wants to play in Dallas and would take less money for it. So hoping he goes to the Eagles to crush Dallas.

Nark Order 03-12-2015 12:26 PM

I can honestly say I have no clue what Chip Kelly is doing. I thought about it a lot.

I am inclined to agree with those that hypothesize he moght be stocking up to get Mariota but he is flat out denying it. I am lost.

Ruien 03-12-2015 12:48 PM

Why is it so baffling? He got rid of his RB because he thought he had Gore locked up. He got rid of a WR that was getting a lot of money to spend on his defense. He took Sam Bradford, injury risk but better than Foles, because he knows Mark Sanchez has the ability to win in his system if Bradford goes down.

He believes in his sports science crap to keep the injury prone players healthy and that will be put to the test with his recent pick ups.

James Steele 03-12-2015 01:13 PM

As much of a boner the idea of Adrian Peterson being a Cowboy has given me over the years, I don't want to lose Murray. He'd be cheaper and have more years left. God, please find a way to make this work. As a Sooner and Cowboy fan, this hurts.

Simple Fan 03-12-2015 01:16 PM

Screw Murray if he wants to be an Eagle let him. Cowboys O-line will open hole for someone else.

Simple Fan 03-12-2015 01:18 PM

Don't want Peterson or any FA running back to replace him, hope they draft one.

James Steele 03-12-2015 01:36 PM

They wouldn't let Murray walk if they didn't think they had Peterson on lock. It is foolish to think Murray's skills didn't contribute greatly to their success. The OL was a huge part of it, but he still had to tote the Rock and earn those yards.

Simple Fan 03-12-2015 01:43 PM

Yea but he don't want to be a Cowboy so scew him. See if he gets half of the yards he got last year, I bet he won't.

James Steele 03-12-2015 01:46 PM

This isn't a pickup game where you get mad you weren't picked. This is the NFL where you had the season of your life and helped a team turn the corner and they don't want to reward you for it.

James Steele 03-12-2015 01:48 PM

The fact Murray is going to a hated division rival is more concerning than anything because he could become a ghost that haunts us for years to come. Chip Kelly's plans are either going to send him running back to college football crying or make him look like an evil fucking genius.

Ruien 03-12-2015 02:30 PM

MURRAY TO THE MOTHER FUCKING EAGLES! So happy. Eat horse shit for being a crappy people Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett. Really enjoyed the Cowboys the past few years but you should not cold shoulder the person who dominated the NFL for you.

Eagles have had the most bizarre offseason ever.

After just losing out on Gore, they pulled the carpet from under Mathews and signed Murray. Craziness.

road doggy dogg 03-12-2015 02:45 PM

While I of course would have much preferred Murray out of the division altogether, I do prefer him in Philly to Dallas. Feel like Murray could have the come-down year that a lot of RBs have after a year where they carry a huge workload. Thing is Dallas' O-line is so ridiculous he would have still thrived. Not bitter just think Murray committed career suicide. Leave the best O line in the league to play in a spread offence that will see him get the ball 15 to 20 times a game. Dallas will be fine without him.

road doggy dogg 03-12-2015 06:17 PM

That makes... even less sense

A season after coming off 497 touches, getting 15-20 carries a game is absolutely perfect. Eagles' O-line graded out better than Dallas' for run blocking too

I don't even

Sure if you don't want the ball in you hands about 6 times a drive and would rather play for a team that has 2 other good backs to take your touches away, it makes since. I would want to be the main guy getting the ball every drive racking up yards but that just me.

#1-norm-fan 03-12-2015 06:32 PM

My hatred of Murray leaving is mostly just sentimental. Dallas does have the best o-line in football but he wasn't JUST a product of it. He's a great running back. I can't fault Dallas for not wanting to overpay for him though. He's a guy who has been injury prone and is just coming off a season where he touched the ball a record amount of times which doesn't bode well for him. Not to mention the constant fumbles.

They can find someone who can be productive behind that line for much less money. He might not be Murray great but if they can find a guy who produces anywhere near what Murray did and can pay him far less money, it'll be better for them in the long run than crippling the team financially for years to come on a handful of players.

Hate the whole argument if someone does not win the Super Bowl it was a failing season. If they make the playoffs and get out of the wildcard round I would call it a success. Don't feel like no matter who they kept or got they would lose to Seattle in the playoffs.

Colts got some good pickups this year, and they still have approximately ~9mil in cap space to play with. Didn't get a boost at safety that they needed, but goddamn if that offense doesn't look terrifying now. Plus the 2 major DE signings. With Mathis back, they might actually have a run defense this year. Gonna be fucking tits. I'm hella excited for Gore and AJ to be joining the team. Never really followed Gore, but AJ is a hell of a player and his veteran presence could be vital in the next few years without Reggie. I foresee at least one ring, maybe a couple SB appearances that maybe end with another ring. They've got the pieces there. They've cut the dead weight and "problem" players (*cough* Richardson *cough* Landry *cough*), and picked up some really impact players. Can't wait to see what they do in the draft now.
