Just want to point out that the greatest Coach and QB ever have lost their last 3 playoff games.

Kris P Lettus 01-16-2011 07:47 PM

Yeah been pretty bad since they lost the SB after going undefeated that season..

McLegend 01-16-2011 07:50 PM

What was that fake punt to?

Jeritron 01-16-2011 07:51 PM

Haters

McLegend 01-16-2011 07:52 PM

Also Patriots looked the Eagles in the Super Bowl with the lack of hurry up when they down by 10.

Emperor Smeat 01-16-2011 07:52 PM

Chung and he would have made the first down if he didn't fumble the snap since he had all the space needed on the right. He fumbled on 4th and then went left since the opening had closed.

It ended up giving the Jets a good 30-40+ "free" yards compared to if it was punted.

There was still plenty of time but the problem was once the O-line began collapsing, it killed the drive for the last 2-3 plays.

McLegend 01-16-2011 07:53 PM

But you get the ball first in the 2nd half. It was a dumb move.

Agree but BB wanted to take a lead into half time or didn't trust his young defense to prevent a score (TD or FG). It wasn't as bad as the Jets responding after Patriots made it 14-11 but it did give the Jets more momentum and cushion for their lead.

Big Fat Mike 01-16-2011 07:57 PM

Even if the Jets lose to the Steelers, has there ever been any other head coaches to take their respective team to the conference championship each of the first two years they have coached there?

Sadly, I am now rooting for the Jets as there is not a team in the AFC that I hate more than Pittsburgh. Hopefully, a plane or three will crash into Heinz Field.

Gonna be an interesting game next week. Steelers O-line is banged up bad, but Jets haven't faced the Polamolecules this year.

It amazes me how many people bash the Steelers and their fans, but when we try to defend ourselves using their own language, it's "See, typical Steeler fans."

Hypocritical much?

James Steele 01-16-2011 08:10 PM

Yes, I know the same could be said about the several Hall of Fame cocaine dealers that played for the Dallas Cowboys.

I could give a fuck about fans. Fans are supposed to be crazy. I can't stand players who act like they have never been there before or players who think they should get a free pass from the law because they play in the NFL. Several players and teams are guilty, but it is more prevalent on some teams than others.

James Steele 01-16-2011 08:15 PM

OK, I know Ben's had his problems in the past couple years, and Jeff Reed (now a former Steeler) had a thing for beating up towel dispensers, but what other guys are you talking about with the Steelers? Because the Rooneys make a big deal about trying to not draft "problem children".

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-16-2011 08:25 PM

Hines Ward (who is a fucking beast) is a dirty player and shit-talking son of a bitch.

James Harrison has had his fair share of legal issues and his handling of the new fines and stuff (which are complete bullshit, but he handled it like a violent retard).

I do know that a lot of the shit-talk probably results from having to deal with the Baltimore Ravens who have OJ Simpson II and other shitheads on their team. I just can't stand stupid shit talk for the sake of having a public dick measuring contest.

SlickyTrickyDamon 01-16-2011 08:43 PM

I don't like the turrrible towels. It's rather make a lot of noise when I go to a game. The towel is just a weak way to try to distract people. It's like waving during the free throws. It's classless, annoying and totally overrated.

I don't like Big Ben for obvious reasons other than him being a great Quarterback, it's cause his hamburger has scrambled eggs in it. That's just dumb and doesn't taste good at all. Eggs are for breakfast and burgers are for dinner/lunch.

I like James Harrison cause he's a dirty hitter. NFL isn't for pussies and I like how he complained about it. It seems like they were only concerned with WR and QBs. Where is the safety rules for the Defenders? Or people risking injuring themselves like doing dives into the endzone.

Ward has always been a great part of my fantasy teams until like this year and last year. So, I don't like him right now.

While I have heard a couple players say this, I have never heard a "talking head" say that this is true. Is he a VERY intense player? Absolutely. But I honestly don't believe he is dirty. And he shit-talks his own QB as much if not more than his opponents.

Quote:

Off the field, yes, I forgot about his couple issues. On the field, I do believe he is being singled out. In several games, the referees were taking flags out of their pockets any time he got within 5 yards of the QB. Also, when the NFL reduces a fine that they handed out 6-8 weeks prior, it makes me think they were attempting to make it look like they weren't giving disperate treatment to him.

Yes, sometimes the Steelers get into these, but far and away more often, they aren't the ones starting it. Does that make it right? No. Do I wish they'd just let their gameplay do the talking? Absolutely.

James Steele 01-16-2011 09:10 PM

Steelers/Jets outta be a fucking classic game. I hope Bears/Packers delivers too, but with Rodgers on a hot streak and Cutler's random stinkers it isn't a gimme.

Can't agree with you more. Probably one of the reasons there are bad feelings from people who actually are fans from other teams. I mean where were these fans all year ya know?

That's why the Patriots weren't in a hurry up. They thought 4th quarter was 45 minutes long because of the scoreboard.

The Packers and Steelers are really popular. So I think the NFL gets a good outcome no matter what.

Emperor Smeat 01-18-2011 12:20 AM

If its Jets vs Packers, ESPN guaranteed to get Farve as an analyst for his take since he played majority of his career at Green Bay and his one year with the Jets (and the mess afterwards) is enough for them to believe he's an expert of the team.

Bears would match better with Steelers in terms of "toughness" perception with defense since both have pretty hard hitting defenses.

I'm clearly biased, I am a Bears fan. I clearly think the Bears will win and its because you mentioned Soldier Field. No one wants to play on our home field. Everyone complains about the ground there, even the Bears players. So hopefully now by playing a few games in crummy conditions, this will work to the Bears advantage, and sacking Aaron Rodgers on the cold ground concussing him wouldn't hurt either. The Bears were only 5-3 at home, BUT they did edge the Pack at Soldier in September.

Of the final 4 teams, 3 of them have been featured predominately in the NFL as "big" teams/public teams, and the Jets have come on in the last couple years. NFL will win with the ratings no matter the combination.

If the Bears don't like it either, I don't see why that particular factor gives them an advantage. And don't forget, Cutler was prone to get taken down pretty hard last time they matched up- he could just as easily get taken out. I expect Capers to blitz aggressively, early, and often, so this has to be something the Bears are mindful of.

NFL players' union files collusion claim
(AP) – 1 hour ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — The NFL players' union confirms it has filed a collusion claim against the league's owners.
The case has been filed with the same special master who is considering the union's complaint about the league's TV contracts.
In December, the league and the players' union agreed to extend the deadline to file a collusion claim.
Union spokesman George Atallah says Tuesday he can't comment on details of the collusion claim.
NFL owners and players are trying to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement to replace the one that expires in March.
Two weeks ago, special master Stephen Burbank began hearing complaints from the players' union that the NFL improperly re-negotiated network TV contracts. A ruling is expected this month.

you cant look at just the fanbase... The markets are gigantic. Casual fans who dont really care will tune in to watch the the game because everyone they know will be watching it because its in their city and your talking about the two biggest citys with teams in the country.

The national image of a team is more important than the size of the home market when it comes to ratings. Steelers - Packers is definitely the money maker.

NFL and ESPN did hype the game a lot about being a huge rebound for New Orleans from Katrina and the Mannings somehow having a huge influence in the area even though only the father played for the Saints. It became one of those games where the outside events contributed as much as the game itself although the game did involve 2 high scoring offenses as well.

Meanwhile, Dallas open to any offers for Dez Bryant. Nobody actually thinks Cowboys will do a trade but more of a "feeler" to see what they could get from a potential Bryant offer.

MTH15 01-18-2011 04:14 PM

Well look at it like this. They say the playoffs brings the best outta players. The packers have been playing "playoff" games since at least week 17. I think they beat the bears by 3, but they really didnt have anything to lose even though there starters were playing. But the way rodgers raped us im never doubting him again. And The jets barely escaped pittsburgh with polamalu sidelined.....previous meetings dont mean shit i know this but i exect both these games to be hella good.....and i hope its snowing in both places

IC Champion 01-18-2011 04:55 PM

And we're saying you're wrong. The networks aren't going to make any significant amount more money either way, anyway.

Like Instant Classic said, ratings in the NFL have little to do with the home markets. Green Bay-Philadelphia broke the wildcard round rating record this year, and that wasn't because of the market size- it was because of the national reputation of the teams and the fanbase.

Green Bay and Pittsburgh are among the largest fanbases nationally, and have a solid reputation of great football. There's no way for us to really know, but I guarantee that that matchup would put up the best numbers.

Here's some numbers.

2. Pittsburgh
T4. Chicago
T4. Green Bay
18. New York Jets

So, you could reasonable argue that Steelers-Bears or Steelers-Packers would be the media's "dream match", but certainly nothing involving the Jets.

Emperor Smeat 01-18-2011 09:01 PM

To be fair, the Jets do share a city/states with the older Giants so it makes sense the gap in support. Its the same with every league having a multi-team city (ex. LA in NBA, NY and Chicago in MLB, etc).

Giants fanbase is stronger than Jets fanbase in New England due to it being a hotbed for Giants until Pats arrived in 1960s.

NFL could get away with having New York being heavy for the Jets this playoffs since you'd get New York/New Jersey and a good percentage of Giants fans rooting for the Jets to benefit NY but their real interest after the playoffs would be with the Giants for long term.

ESPN's Mel Kippler predicts that if Cam Newton was to be picked in the 1st Round or upper 1st Round, then Washington will be the team to take him at #10. The amount of money for a #10 pick means they can't train him the 2-3 years expected for Cam to adjust to the NFL style.
