Quote:

Dearest Abigail,

The sunshine has finally blessed us with its life-giving warmth. Bloodroot and pansy have begun to awaken from their seasonal slumber, and the men are most joyous at the looming arrival of the spring. Esprit de corps in our winter quarters was further lifted by the announcement of reinforcements arriving soon.

Messrs. Grigson and Irsay brought us the news one afternoon past. We are told that we should soon have the chance to welcome properly our arriving comrades to our bivouac within a fortnight.

These new lads are veterans themselves. Lt. Herremans, Cpt. Johnson and Sgt. Gore rode in numerous campaigns prior to their arrival here. Why, Gore himself once saw action in the granddaddy of all skirmishes, albeit came out on the losing side to a group from the border states headed by Old One Eyebrow, a fellow I myself have tangled with on occasion.

I do believe Gore's former outfit, one from the recently established gold camps in California, fell into a bit of turmoil in the wake of that, hastening his own departure. 'Tis for our gain. I think he could teach our lads a thing or two about pushing onward after being poked up in the fields of New England.

It is Johnson that I most look forward to having under my command. Though aged, he is an able adjunct and quite something to see in his gas-pipes, oh my!

A number of these fellows are acquaintances from time spent campaigning in the swamps of Florida. I've heard tell of some that consider dragoons from an outfit called "The U" to be Sunday soldiers at best preoccupied with the fancy gals, and a few men have worried that these new adds might turn copperhead on us, but I can assure you that when the hornets are flying they earn their sawbucks with the best of them.

Welcoming such experienced fighters into the wagon should provide a nice elixir to wounds suffered at the hands of the foul brigands from Foxborough.

Some have questioned the acquisition of aging replacements. Pish posh! I'd rather have a few savvy veterans over a skirmish line full of Irishmen any day.

Our mental state was further improved following the dispatch of Trent Richardson. The men have never forgiven him for taking a French leave.

I am well all around, putting some meat back onto these bones following the long winter. I've trimmed back the bird nest on my chin in favor of nothing more than a moustache. A few of Irsay's nobs from back East and visiting from the continent assure me that this is now the preferred style for fine gentlemen. Perhaps a door knocker might adorn my visage upon our next meeting, an event I most look forward to.

The spring muster is coming soon. It shall be a camp meeting for the ages! I will take a leave prior to those days so that we might lay together under the sun somewhere. Until that day, I promise to think of you often.

Yours in flesh and spirit,

Gen. Andrew Luck

Hey may or may not have an actual case. He signed the contract, and should have known what the terms were before he did. All the other things he talks about to try and justify why he shouldn't have been suspended ignore the fact that we don't know what he was actually like in the locker room. If he and Grigson had strong disagreements about his role on the team, he could have been acting like a pariah in the locker room, constantly mouthing discontent over his position. Kind of like that guy everyone works with who always talks crap about people who get promotions over him, or who complains about the boss and then doesn't understand why his performance reviews are bad when he's constantly mouthing everyone and underperforming.

That's just kind of what I see in this situation. The players-only meeting a couple months before the end of the season was one where Reggie claimed they were calling out some people on whether or not their hearts were in it. And shortly after, Richardson lost his starting position for good.

#1-norm-fan 03-13-2015 06:07 PM

Hmm. I don't mind the McFadden signing for Dallas. I'd still like to see them see if they can get a good RB relatively early in the draft but I'm interested in seeing what McFadden can do outside of Oakland and behind an offensive line that's gonna give him every opportunity to live up to his potential. If he does, he's gonna be great and they'll have successfully replaced Murray for half the price. If he doesn't, they didn't invest too much in him anyway.

road doggy dogg 03-13-2015 06:18 PM

I think Dallas fully intends on getting a true starter still. The DMac move is good for them. Decent-ish upside with little risk involved.

Ruien 03-13-2015 07:27 PM

DMac was a good signing as a back who will get a third to half the carries for the team. Will allow for a young RB to not take every carry.

Quote:

While Officer Kindervater was helping the defendant into the rear seat of his patrol vehicle the defendant asked if this incident could be kept off the books. Officer Kindervater explained that he was under arrest for DUI and that couldn't be kept off the books. The defendant advised he would take citations if it could be kept off the books. The defendant then slurred "Never mind."

When en-route to precinct six the defendant uttered "Do you know what happened the last time a Raven player got a DUI? I'm getting cut tomorrow, not like you care."

They suck. And Sanantonio Holmes' toe never touched.

Also, the San Francisco 49ers never won a Super Bowl without Joe Montana, Steve Young, or Jerry Rice. Their last Super Bowl win was 20 fucking years ago.

#1-norm-fan 03-18-2015 06:25 PM

Greg Hardy to Dallas. 1 year, incentive laden deal for up to 13.1 mil, no guaranteed money. Dallas making a lot of relatively safe moves with a lot of upside. I'm not sure how contracts like this work against the salary cap though so a one year deal "potentially" worth that much money seems high considering how strapped for cash they are.

Difference is that you are choosing from 2 disparate eras in a team's history. The Niners went immediately from Montana to Young, and basically had Rice the entire time.

So will all diving catches result in a no catch now? Or is there a separate rule for diving catches. Say its a clear catch ,receiver dove to make the catch so he's on the ground, defensive player touches him. Incomplete pass. :|

The ability to dive and maintain control of the ball would be enough to establish himself as a "runner." You are all being to literal with the phrase runner.

#1-norm-fan 03-26-2015 12:56 AM

Yeah, I kinda hate any proposed rule change that directly changes how points are scored.

Emperor Smeat 03-26-2015 01:11 AM

Still think the CFL-style of an extra point for 50+ yd FGs would be the best. Makes longer FGs more exciting, wouldn't mess up scoring in a weird way like what the Colts suggested or by removing PATs, and just moving PATs back a few yards would still make them "boring."

Just leave it the way it is. IF YOU MUST CHANGE IT then just get rid of the PAT and make everyone go for 2.

Just make every touchdown 7 #backyard

I was always a big proponent of defending the extra point but at this point it's a total formality. You have to try really hard to screw it up.

I wouldn't mind the NFL Blitz rule: touchdown is worth 7 points by default. If you want to go for an 8th point, you put a point at risk. If you make it, 8 points. If you don't, 6 points. Pretty simple and keeps strategies basically the same with respect to the current game.

The worst thing they could possibly do would be to force everybody to go for 2 no matter what. A 2-point conversion attempt is basically a 50/50 play, it'd be terrible to dramatically swing the game on what amounts to total luck. You may as well just flip a coin at that point.

Plus a "real play" has higher injury risk, which I'd think the league would want to avoid.

Yea if they want to change it the best thing to do us move it back about 10 yards to make them less automatic. And it give the offence more room to run a pass play.

SlickyTrickyDamon 03-26-2015 02:26 PM

10 yards is still a chip shot.

Simple Fan 03-26-2015 02:32 PM

If the ball is on the 13 it makes about a 30 yard field goal.

Ruien 03-26-2015 03:41 PM

We should just give the team the ball at their 20 and tell them they get 3 plays to get into the end zone again. We can award them 1 point if it takes 3 plays, 2 points if it takes 2 plays, and a holy OMG 3 points if it takes 1 play. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Seriously, the game is just fine as it is. It is called a EXTRA POINT for a reason. It is like the reward for getting a touchdown instead of doing 2 field goals.
