I think the plan is to have Robben and Duff as the wide men, Lampard and Makelele in the centre, Cole and Oarker as back up. Veron, Petit, Mutu and maybe Hasselbaink are all on their way out.

Wengerland 05-16-2004 02:15 PM

Yeah, also looks as if Gronkjaer is going to Birmingham for just over £1 million.

Dazz 05-16-2004 02:32 PM

Yes indeedy, Stanic is also out of contract, Desially is a goner, Melchiot is too, wouldn't suprised if Sullivan is, Macho is. Stil hoping Carlo stays.

The Mask 05-16-2004 04:38 PM

i thought robben was a left winger? that's why duff got so pissed off at his arrival.

The Mackem 05-16-2004 05:29 PM

Just been watching a bit of that Football diary on BBC2. It was interesting to see Kieron Dyer being interested in WWE so much

Wengerland 05-16-2004 05:34 PM

LOL yeah

I found that pretty funny. He's got connections with John Cena

Cactus Sid 05-16-2004 06:19 PM

Pretty good program, gotta love the Weymouth chairman, he hasn't got a clue

My sources tell me that he is a left/right winger and can play upfront or attacking midfield, but is left footed.

Anyway, IF Ranieri stays, he will play them both, he has had Duff on the right before.

El Capitano Gatisto 05-16-2004 11:00 PM

Robben is a left winger. Duff is shite on the right hand side. Every time Kerr tries to play him there for Ireland, as a way to let one of our other left footers play on the wing, Duff becomes ineffective. Switch him to the left or the centre, and straight away he starts causing problems.

The Mackem 05-17-2004 07:16 AM

Big match tonight.

Cactus Sid 05-17-2004 08:13 AM

Heskey expected to sign for Birmingham in the next 48 hours

The Mackem 05-17-2004 08:16 AM

Really?

Cactus Sid 05-17-2004 08:18 AM

Yeah, according to Sky Sports News, Steve Bruce, Sky Text etc...

Cactus Sid 05-17-2004 08:18 AM

AND the BBC

Unrelated to the Premiership, but Jaap Stam signed for Milan today

Wengerland 05-17-2004 12:03 PM

Hopefully Dickov chooses West Brom then, cause he wouldn't be a Birmingham regular by the looks of it.

Assuming he goes that is.Bent has also pretty much said he won't stick around but thats understandable as he definetly has premiership talent.

Stam is a good signing for Milan but it looks like he'll be at right back again. Also concerning Italian football,Roberto Baggio has retired, though may play in Euro 2004 if selected.

Staying abroad (:$),Real Madrid lost their 4th game in a row,the first time in their history that haas happened.Beckham was sent off yesterday and so,if he leaves, would have played his last game for them.Barcelona are now 2nd.

Wengerland 05-17-2004 01:17 PM

Ok,just heard we're releasing 13 players(if you include Izzet,though he will go on a bosman).That includes Freund,Callum Davidson,Impey,Rogers(gone to Forest now),McKinlay,Guppy,Tom Williamson(youngster),Nicolas Priet(another youngster),Paul Murphy(reserve keeper)Sinclair,Junior Lewis and Craig Hignett.

Can't say i'm surprisde about most and if i'm honest i'm not too bothered about losing any of them.Hopefully Gillespie will be added to that list.

Dabizas has been asked to stay but has hinted he'll leave if he gets an offer from a premiership club.

Mr. Monday Morning 05-17-2004 01:56 PM

Gillespie is available on a free

Wengerland 05-17-2004 02:25 PM

I can't see any premiership side buying him.Unless we release him i think he could be here for another year.:(

Premiership Team of the Year?

Just an interesting take on the BBC for its Premiership team of the Year.

I agree with every single player there :$ unless someone can mention someone not in the BBC alternatives.

Shearer

Wengerland 05-17-2004 04:17 PM

I don't think Johnson should be an alternative.Probably have Given or someone ahead of Kiely as an alternative also.

The team itself is about right,i would maybe disagree about Lauren but he's had a steady season and i can't think of a right back who's been great this season.

Interesting also that Tim Howard was in the PFA team but didn't make any of the BBC alternatives, let alone the starting position.

Shearer

I'd have maybe put ronaldo in instead of viera, and put gerrard where viera is :$ 2 defensive midfielders and all.

can't really argue otherwise though.

Wengerland 05-17-2004 04:28 PM

Ronaldo should probably be in the alternatives at least, maybe not the starting side.:$

Cactus Sid 05-17-2004 06:00 PM

Mackem :( ({)

Was a foul on the keeper, but I'm glad they scored, for 2 reasons

1) Extra time will be good to watch

2) Jason McAteer is, and always has been, a twat

Yeah the fact that a midfielder starts at right back shows the lack of right back talent in this country. Cos I would probably take him over any right back.

packt up 05-17-2004 06:26 PM

And yeah Ronaldo and Tim Howard should probs be amongst the replacements but not in the starting line up.

Cactus Sid 05-17-2004 06:58 PM

Mackem :(

Mind you, McAteer deserved to miss, and Whitley.... LOL what a cock. In that circumstance, the fact Vaesen was a mile off his line is irrelevant.

Feel sorry for Mart Poom though.

The Mackem 05-17-2004 07:11 PM

Just a bit y'know at the moment.

Cactus Sid 05-17-2004 07:18 PM

The bad thing is next season's gonna be even tougher

The Mackem 05-17-2004 07:32 PM

It's never an easy league to get out of.

Dazz 05-17-2004 07:43 PM

yeah that BBC team is probably the best one, much better then the joke of a team which was on the Sports Personality thing.

Nevermind 05-17-2004 07:49 PM

I hope Kevin Kyle is pleased with himself, though. Letting defenders and kids go up to take the penalties when they shouldn't have been. It shows how much bottle he has. Whitley should've known better than that, though.

McCarthy's reactions says it all really...

The Mackem 05-17-2004 07:55 PM

Kyle was the youngest (Sunderland) player on the pitch at that point I think.

He's given 100% all season and it wouldn't have gotten down to penalties if it wasn't for his goals so I don't hold anything against him. Plus those defenders took suprisingly good penalties.

Dazz 05-17-2004 08:03 PM

 looks like Wengerland, Hardkore, MMM and the Mackem will be setting up a 'Division one talk' thread next season.

also MMM, I always said that you would finish bottom,.

Nevermind 05-17-2004 08:06 PM

To be honest, I'm not too clued up on Sunderland, but I just feel that if you're a forward, you should put yourself forward to take a penalty before a defender. You're a forward, that's what you do. Your job is to score goals, and as a forward, you're meant to practice penalties. In front of that goal, a forward would have a much better mindset than a defender. I agree with you that those defenders took surprisingly good penalties, and I know you can't fault Kyle if he's been outstanding all season, but Whitley's inexperience infront of goal (I think he's a defender, right?) has played a big part in costing you a trip to Cardiff.

You're right not to hold anything against him, as it's all very unfortunate, but you have to question Kyle in not taking a penalty. Even if he'd missed, I doubt he would've wasted it like Whitley did. I think that's why McCarthy was so angry, due to the way the penalty was missed.

Penalties are an awful thing, though. You're always going to have your heroes and villians, but at the end of the day, it's all very unfortunate. I'm sure you don't need me adding to the disappointment of tonight, though, so I'll shush. :D

The Mackem 05-17-2004 08:08 PM

Well, it could be worse.

Nevermind 05-17-2004 08:11 PM

True, you could be Leeds, millions of pounds in debt, all of your best players leaving, etc., etc. Sunderland are a very good side, and they'll be back next year, no doubt about that. You've still had a good year, though, in terms of the FA Cup especially.

The Mackem 05-17-2004 08:14 PM

Maybe the FA Cup run took it out of usbut I could list 100 ifs and buts right about now. It will feel better in the morning.

Dazz 05-17-2004 08:23 PM

IF they didn't score in extra time is the main one I suppose. and If Norwich and WBA weren't in the league this season...

;).

The Mackem 05-17-2004 08:28 PM

I guess they would be 65 and 79

Dazz 05-17-2004 08:29 PM

Whats number one?
