I doubt that, Boras will be fronting him money until he signs for millions more than he's worth, whether that's this year or next year or the year after I dunno. Dude will be getting paid

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-18-2009 01:28 AM

15 million dollar signing bonus, so much for those burgers...

YOUR Hero 08-18-2009 01:33 AM

There was a dude that didn't sign two drafts/years in a row and ended up in a WalMart. Anyone remember who that dude was?

That's dumb. Because if it's about the cash, the real cash is at free agencies. The longer you keep yourself off the clock, thelonger before the 'reamoney' kicks in.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-18-2009 01:39 AM

Not if you are getting a huge bonus up front because what if he doesn't pan out? Another Boras guy Craig Hansen got 1 million a year deal right off the bat and I don't think he'll be a very big player once he can hit free agency. I bet his initial deal will total more than he will ever for the rest of his career.

Matt Harrington

Supreme Olajuwon 08-18-2009 02:51 AM

rejected $4.9 million, then hired Boras as his agent and rejected $1.2 million the next year, then got offered less than $20,000 the next year

Supreme Olajuwon 08-18-2009 02:53 AM

And now according to SI, he's making $11.50 an hour at Costco.

Gertner 08-18-2009 03:06 AM

Jays sign 1 of their top 4 picks. That's just wonderful.

RP 08-18-2009 04:07 AM

I'm fucking besides myself right now. i cant believe that walk off just fucking happend. Fuck me being a cubs fan.

Loose Cannon 08-18-2009 02:02 PM

they showed the top four prospect signings on ESPN of like the last 10 years and one was Mark Prior. The other two I had no clue who they were. and then Stratsburg.

ClockShot 08-18-2009 03:48 PM

Rangers re-aquire Ivan Rodriguez from the Astros for 2 minor leaguers.

Savio 08-19-2009 01:06 AM

point taken.

However I don't think these guys are protecting themselves against failure. I'm sure they are all coming into this with the thoughts that they are going to be a star.

ClockShot 08-19-2009 03:46 PM

Smoltz to the Cardinals.

Droford 08-20-2009 12:23 AM

Mets fans might find some humor in this.

or not.

I'm sure every top pick envisions themselves as a star so I don't really get your point?

YOUR Hero 08-20-2009 10:30 AM

If they envision themselves as a star, why hold up the free agency years where the big money is.

Evil Vito 08-20-2009 05:22 PM

Mets activate Billy Wagner from the 60-day disabled list and release Livan Hernandez. Livan's overall numbers are misleading.

Hernandez was 7-8 with a 5.47 ERA for the Mets in 2009, but posted a 7.33 ERA in July and an 11.30 ERA in August.

He had a really good first half, but as I expected, he trailed off...didn't think he'd trail off THAT much though, damn. But it was time for him to go. They need to start auditioning guys who could potentially be on the 2010 staff, which they've already done with Bobby Parnell.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-21-2009 01:05 AM

Gary Sheffield is throwing a fit because the Mets aren't going to give him a contract extension.

Cock. Sucker.

Oh.

I'm sure they all envision themselves as stars but why be stupid? You never know what could happen, it takes a lonnng time to become a free agent. Even if you are a "super free agent" (that's a legitimate term in the world of the MLB) The MLB free agent rules are so complicated it's crazy, as are the anti-trust laws that are associated with them.

Yeah, I guess it was only a matter of time before he acted up...he's been a model citizen the rest of the year, probably just to angle for a new contract.

As good as he's been this year, I figured that if Gary Sheffield was on the Mets in 2010, something went horribly wrong during the offseason.

Billy Wagner gets claimed off waivers. Team is unknown at the time.

Let's see how Omar handles this one along with the Sheffield situation going on now.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 08-21-2009 07:47 PM

Jerry Remy back in the booth tonight. Red Sox sweeping this series :shifty:

Red Sox claim him.

More panicing by Theo.

McLegend 08-21-2009 10:23 PM

Cole Hamels isn't going to be right for this entire year. He's like Josh Beckett last year.

Mets will probably deal him, which I agree with.

I even read that if the Mets agree to pay the majority of the $3.5 million left on his deal, they might be able to net a decent prospect from Boston. Not a huge prospect or anything obviously...but someone who at least projects into a Major Leaguer.

How is it in panicking? If the season ended right now the Red Sox are in the playoffs, well unless the Rangers come back to win cuz Red Sox aren't coming back tonight. The AL East is pretty much out of reach, especially with the loss tonight. They are right there for the Wild Card, will be real surprised if they lose their spot to the fucking Texas Rangers. Only thing I could see happening is the Rays making a run and jumping both of them.

Wow

Brad Penny can only throw a fast ball apparently, with it going right down the middle.

Another example of a decent NL guy moving over to the AL and getting shelled, his last 5 starts have been a disaster.

DAMN iNATOR 08-22-2009 04:40 AM

Tiges (yes, I left out the 'r', I'm not the only Detroit fan who has ever done that...) win and the White Sox lose, pushing the lead out to 3.5 in the AL Central...at least that's a little more like it...like to see my boys get ahead by at least another 2 or 3 games though, just for insurance going into the final 40 (41, if tomorrow is counted though.)

SammyG 08-22-2009 05:30 AM

Fuck you Cubs, again.

I agree 1,000% with this statement, 24/7/365. No team that has gone as long as they have without a World Championship is worthy of a single ounce of my respect.

What? did you say the same thing for the Red Sox and the White Sox prior to 2004/2005? why would a team "not be worthy of a single ounce of respect" just because they haven't won a championship. the Cubs have had good teams, been to like 7 WS since they last won.
