There also seems to be a special edition in Europe as well as the poster/rupee case on the previous page. The special addition is said to come with this ocarina and woodlike pen:

The game is less than a month away. I'd thought they'd have these officially announced or up for preorder by now. |
Nintendo Greece is giving away these for preordering:

Nintendo released a list of about 20ish DSiWare games that won't be transferable to the 3DS although Nintendo didn't rule out making them possible in the future with a few already confirmed to be having their own 3DS version (ex. Flipnote).
Earthworm Jim not being transferable might be more related to Interplay potentially closing as a company than other issues. Quote:

Yoshii confirmed to be an Easter egg for the Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater game. It would make it the 2nd MGS game in a row on a Nintendo platform the dinosaur has appeared in with Twin Snakes being the first.
Most likely he is just going to replace the hidden toy frogs in the game but Konami as a joke didn't deny it wasn't possible to eat him. Also not answered is what happens to the 3D effect later in the game due to something happening to Snake in the original version SPOILER: show http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/as...shi_mgs_01.jpg http://kotaku.com/5810150/can-snake-...wouldnt-answer |
Losing the 3D would be retarded. May as well get the HD collection if that happened.
|
It's probably a production gag as the MGS series tends to do. They like to poke fun at the fact that MGS is really just a game.

Hey, tech support question for you owners out there.
I got my mom a 3DS for her birthday a few weeks back, got mine at launch. I updated my system to get the internet browser and shop without a problem a couple nights ago. Tried to do my mom's just now and I can't get no connection. The catch is, all the bars are blue on the home screen. But when i go into the settings menu, they all go grey. When I try to update, it starts and the bars are back to blue, but 5 seconds later the bars go back to grey. I'm thinking hardware issue, but I'm just curious if anybody else is having a problem before I go to Nintendo on this. Any help is of course appreciated. |
Are you doing it on the same router as you did your update? If not, I'm betting it's a port issue.
You'll need to find out how to open ports for the router if that is the case. |

I ended up using the DNS number nintendo gives you on their support website. It works, but I get cut off around 75% completion. Gonna try again in a little while. |

Just bought OoT. Was food shopping after 6 pints and was a bit of an impulse buy, but the smirk on my face during just the intro is 3D is ridiculous. All I see on videogame sites right now is that the 3DS only has ports that are good and I would totally agree.
I was tempted to sell it after E3. But I've now realised after starting this, if it makes me smile while I play, why would I complain? |
Square-Enix is holding a contest for a rare collectors edition 3DS that will have their upcoming Heroes of Ruin logo on it to go along with an Onyx Black color scheme.
The contest lasts until July 31 and is being held on their Heroes of Ruin game website with only 1 winner receiving the 3DS as a prize. The only catch is the contest is available only for the US and Canada. http://cdn2.netops.eidosinteractive....n_3ds_comp.jpg http://www.computerandvideogames.com...-nintendo-3ds/ |
I played a 3DS for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was Pilot Wings Resort and my eyes just couldn't adjust to the 3D at full blast. Turned it down to a lower level but ended up leaving the shop (ASDA) a bit disapointed in the 3DS.
Tried it again at GAME yesterday with SSFIV3D with the 3D set to full and it worked like a charm. I was quite impressed. I thought the 3D would have made everything pop out but it makes the game look "deeper", like it has multiple layers. I couldn't adjust to Pilot Wings in 3D but SSFIV's 3D was natural. So, is it as case of ASDA having a crappy 3DS or does the ease of adjusting to the 3D vary from game to game? |
Not played Pilotwings, but I had SSF4 and Zelda maxed 3D at all times and was fine with it.
|
It probably is just ASDAs 3DS being wrecked by someone at some point.
|
Quote:
Before you said that Street Fighter was so much better i'd lost all faith in the 3DS... I'll have to give it a shot somewhere. |
Yeah, Street Fighter is much better than Pilot Wings.
With PW on maximum 3D, it was just a blur I couldn't focus on and my eyes would keep freaking out. With SFIV on the same 3D setting, it was easy, instant and comfortable. |
Quote:
At least I would imagine so. |
I'm not sure the ingame view point would make a difference. It's still two 2D images being fired from different directions into my eyes.
|
Fairly large price cut coming, at least in the US. 30% off down to $169.99 from August 12th.
They're doing something for early adopters too, whatever that might be. |
Early adopters get 10 free NES games and 10 free GBA games. The GBA games including Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. NES games include Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda.
|
Nice price drop. Might get one of these eventually.
|
Needs a redesign, tbh. Too compact, even for Nintendo.
|
Quote:
If anything it now provides a bigger gap away from the Vita which could kill off some of its steam after Sony announced the lower model was the same price as the 3DS. It could also have a side effect of making the Wii U cheaper than what Nintendo originally wanted so that the Wii U doesn't have the slow sales like the 3DS initially had. |
Quote:
Sales were already short of projections by a significant number. They're already kind of failing without direct competition, and the price point on the PSP Aqua Velva was just insult to injury. They already had to do something, regardless of the PSP Vittles. This may have upped the price cut, but even that's questionable. I get the spin, but Sony's the lagging brand up against the reigning champ, and I have trouble imagining this has a serious impact on Sony's momentum at this point. Though this does kinda make me regret buying a DSiXL so recently. Paying 250 for a technology I have no interest in using to play ports of old titles I didn't buy on the last ten platforms they were released for isn't my idea of a good buy. But at a more reasonable price, the backwards compatability alone would have been ice to replace my former unit. |
HEY DRAKUL
Flame Red Nintendo 3DS drops on September 9th in the US, so Europe will probably be shortly after that.
|
Cool. I'll probably get it if money permits. Hopefully it'll be part of the price cut.
I don't want the black and blue 3DS at, say, £130 and the red one is £170. |
The new UK price of the 3DS is £139.99.
|
Nintendo needed a better gimmick this time.
|
Not entirely. The DS started just as slow, both in sales and a dearth of games and it wasn't until the second holiday when it started picking up. However, the initial price was a huge barrier to entry for families that have Wii's and DS's in this economy.
There's new Mario and Mario Kart along with a new, lower price coming out before Christmas. If they're still failing into the new year, serious questions will need to be asked internally. |

Suffice to say the DS didn't quite sell as bad, that's an excuse. Making excuses about launch titles is a dumb idea, since it really hasn't been a factor before. The difference? Counting on the same old in a recession. Further, if this were really the case, if things were business as usual, none of what's happened would be happening. A price cut, a profit forecast of doom for the company, and Iwata's paycut demonstrate just how marked a difference there is. And yes, price was a good chunk of that, but that came from hubris based on a response of interest from the consumer. They actually thought 3D would carry that price tag, and that's a pretty big issue that's hard to excuse. Has, I didn't peg you for an apologist. If (not when, before some whiny faggot dregs up this post in a year) the PSP Vita does well at launch, what will be the excuse? They had to play damage control on launch week sales, even. It's a GOOD thing that we're not sold out, they said. That was Sony's excuse for the PS3. Well, one of them. They also trumped up sales and such, which is Nintendo's current shtick. So...Apologise away, I guess. It might make you feel better, but the 3DS is in trouble. I know you were fellating the thing for months before release, but apologetics is another thing entirely. Justifying your buy? |
Not really, it's just how I see it all. I've already sold mine. It can burn in hell for all I care, then I can re-pick one up cheap and have new Mario and Mario Kart and I'll be a happy bunny.
They've said it's below expectations, but it just needs a strong holiday to pick it back up. unfortunately for them, they've taken the loss leader business practice so it's going to need to be a strong holiday with a high attach rate. Vita though, if that thing launches in March like is rumoured, I would put money on it having a strong opening month and then dropping off the map until Christmas. |
So far I enjoy the 3ds. Faster web browser than the DSI, Netflix, and Zelda is pretty cool. Not too stoked with most of the titles, but I'm looking forward to Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and the new Mario game.
|
Have spare cash right now to buy a 3DS..but I looked at the calendar of releases and there isn't much coming out much. I love the Nintendo games coming but some stronger third party support would be nice :-\
|
How is this thing on the eyes? Does it give you headaches or anything after a while?
|
I got my 3ds the day the price cut was annoucned...M'em, at least I'll get the free downloads.

The 3d does nothing for gameplay, just how it looks. It's a gimmick. |
K, first did I just see a Jonster post on the last page?
Welcome back, lad. Yeah, I recently received an extra $160 outside of my budget. Since I hadn't picked up anything gaming related in a while other than MK I treated myself. Preordered Skyrim in full, picked up Record of Agarest War Zero (wanted the 1st title, but it's a smaller gamestop and they kinda suck) and a 2800 point xbla card. They had the 3DS for $139.99 and I didn't even consider getting it. I could have picked it up with OoT but I was like fuck that... and I want one of these things. Needs moar games. |
Holy crap, it WAS Jonster. Wow, blast from the past in here.
|
The thing with me is, I still want one but only for Mario Kart and Mario which seems silly to pay what they want for it even after reduction. I had the DS since Christmas 2004 and I barely used that for anything bar GBA games I missed until about 18 months had passed and this is feeling the same way, just I had a better use for my money this time.
|
I love my DS. Gonna hang on to it till it dies and will never trade any of my legal games for it in. But I also never used it till the games really started rolling in.
I have no doubt I'll get a 3DS at some point, but it's in the same territory as the PS3 on my buying schedule filed under "some day". |
The PS3 prove drop not tempting you there either then?
|
I was out of the country over the last week. What price drop is this?
|
Sony announced all current PS3 bundles would have an immediate price drop from $299 to $249 but at the same time announced another new bundle or model set for $299.

http://www.destructoid.com/2nd-analo...s-210760.phtml Second nub for Monster Hunter and probably one hell of a lot of other games soon too. Yeah, that's awful and unweildly. If I ever get one again, I'll be waiting on a re-design for sure now. |
You sold your 3DS?
|
Yeah, had some money nicked and had to sell it for food and junk. Would have worked out great, actually sold it for more than the price drop amount so fine when I would have re-bought one. Now I don't see a reason to until the dual-stick version comes out.
|
Quote:
I saw a concept one that placed the right stick on the bottom although the thingy itself was just a stick and not a cradle like the picture above. I'd also assume besides the possibility of Nintendo becoming worried from the Vita or people complaining about the lack of a 2nd stick, the extra stick was done to help with the idea of using it as a controller for the Wii U since the Wii U controller has 2 sticks to go along with a screen. |
According to Nintendo, Capcom pushed for the new 2nd stick add-on as one of the requirements to getting Monster Hunter on the handheld during negotiations between both companies.
They also said Capcom was the main reason why the Classic Controller for the Wii had the Pro model with the extra shoulder buttons because Capcom wanted the extra buttons for Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii. According to a few rumors, Nintendo was against the idea of separating the 3DS user base this early but they also knew it would be unwise to let Sony keep the series exclusive to their handhelds in Japan because that ended up being the main reason why the PSP never collapsed completely. |
Basically Nintendo should let Capcom design their hardware.
|
No, we'd be on the 8th revision already if it was Capcom. But really guys, that will be the last, ultimate version of it until we get bored and make another.
|
Oh I see: Capcom makes retail updates to their games so they'd naturally do it for hardware as well. Very good, Hasney.
|
Rumored small list of games Nintendo will show off or announce in their 3DS event before the Tokyo Game Show with at least Monster Hunter, a new Warioware game, and new colors confirmed to be occurring in past reports.
Quote:
Another list also has Baten Kaitos: Silence of the Mechanised Son and Mach Rider Unchained as titles to be shown off. |
Looks like Konami is joining Capcom in being very happy about the 2nd stick attachment because now they found an easy way to fix the horrible controls for Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D.
http://kotaku.com/5838643/metal-gear...pheral-now-too |
Capcom are being right bastards over Phoenix Wright at the moment. Not optimistic for a localisation.
|
Perhaps his inclusion in UMvC3 will sway them.

I just beat Starfox 64 3D. It's the definitive best use of the 3D, the depth of perception helps immensely.
It's the best game on the 3DS right now. If you have one, go pick it up. |

Quick Recap of Nintendo's pre-Tokyo Game Show 3DS Event:
* Monster Hunter 4 confirmed to be exclusive to the 3DS. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=134055 * Monster Hunter Tri from the Wii is being ported to the 3DS and will be called Monster Hunter 3G * Pink version of the 3DS will be out in Japan in October and late 2011/early 2012 for other regions. * New footage for Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land, and Mario And Sonic at the London Olympic Games shown. * New game in the Mario Tennis series going to the 3DS with a TBA 2012 release date. * Official debut of the Fire Emblem series for the 3DS with the newest game set to arrive next year. * No mention or debut of the 2nd stick attachment which could be a sign of it being a bundled item or not Nintendo-produced item. * Miyamoto brought out his old Master Sword and Shield props to debut Zelda Four Swords for the 3DS and more info on Skyward Sword for the Wii. While this list is mostly about games Japan is getting in 2011 and 2012, most of them will also be coming to US/Canada and UK/Europe: Quote:

I would mock Capcom for announcing a remake and a sequel to the same game in the same month, but it actually makes sense for the Japanese market. Monster Hunter is their crack.
|
I'll be holding off on getting a 3DS for a while now.
With multiple games using the secondery thumbstick attachement, which needs a battery of its own, it's clear as day that a remodeled 3DS isn't far away. I've waited this long, A few more months wouldn't matter. |

That said, I'm with you all the way. |

A bunch of 3DS news from today's press conference held by Nintendo.
NES Classic Kid Icarus will become the next game to have the 3D Classic treatment while Japan's Club Nintendo is holding a contest and giving away 3,000 limited edition Mario-related 3DS with each model only having 1,000 copies made. http://www.screwattack.com/news/kid-...ome-3d-classic Mario Kart 7 will not drop its 60 fps framerate for online multiplayer matches and allows for customized racing leagues/groups. The StreetPass mode allows for races to be scheduled and the exchanging of racing groups between 3DS owners. SpotPass allows "ghost racers" to be uploaded from other people's races. http://www.screwattack.com/news/mari...and-streetpass Recap of the news regarding the 3DS system itself from Nintento include (no guarantee all will be available outside of Japan): Quote:
First potential Pokemon RPG for the 3DS might be named "Pokemon Gray" based on a recent domain name purchased by Nintendo. Hulu Plus will be arriving to the 3DS (and Wii) in the near future with membership costing $7.99 per month. |

Anyway, I was just here to post this (pretty sweet): http://www.escapistmagazine.com/foru...-Demos-and-DLC After a losing financial year, Nintendo wants to eliminate every excuse you have for not buying new content on its 3DS. In response to the company's recent financial woes, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has announced that the 3DS eShop will be expanded in a firmware update later this year. The update, expected November 4th, will focus on downloadable content, allowing game demos, DLC, and the ability to perform downloads while in sleep mode. Iwata's plans were laid out in the company's Semi-Annual Financial Results Briefing, a long explanation of what caused Nintendo's recent numbers and what it intends on doing to help reverse the trend. Also outlined in the report were plans for a second firmware update that will release sometime "in the future" after the one already planned for November. This future update will hypothetically allow the 3DS eShop's content to be viewable, and eventually, downloadable from smart phones and computers. Nintendo believes that one of the problems with the 3DS is that it doesn't have "a great affinity with the social media, which are currently being used as a means to spread information. "In other words," the report states, "even if a software title receives an incredible review, majority of people will not know about it unless they access the Nintendo eShop with their Nintendo 3DS system." That's exactly why Iwata wants players to have more access to content. At first, players using other devices will only be able to view the eShop, but soon (for those of you counting, we're now talking about three updates out), Nintendo plans on giving them the ability to make purchases as well. Until that time, you'll need to photograph a QR code with your 3DS in order to access the purchase screen on your handheld. This whole 3DS mess may be a thorn in Nintendo's side, but there's not much to complain about for the consumer. There's now been a price cut, a second thumbstick added, Netflix, the aforementioned DLC and demo update, and, of course, the stuff Nintendo was already planning on giving players in November anyway, namely 3D video recording and a new messaging service. I'll admit that I haven't been thrilled with Nintendo's hardware choices of late, but I have to applaud Iwata for the way he's handled its failings. Instead of sending out hordes of apology letters without changing, or simply pointing fingers and mud slinging, Nintendo has genuinely tried to make itself better for the player. Whether or not that's enough to put the company back on an upward swing is a different story. Source: Eurogamer |
Right, good read. Let's not turn this into another little escuffle, but this is what I want to see out of the big three when they fuck up. Not lies, not bells and whistles that drive up hardware costs without actually adding to the player experience and definitely not blaming or punishing the gamer.
"We fucked up. The economy is bad, but we fucked up. And we're sorry. Here's what went wrong. Here's what we're doing to fix it. Here's what we're doing to once again pique gamers' interest in our product. Oh, plus we're still doing all the stuff we were already rolling out for this year. Our bad. Enjoy." It's really not that hard, Sony, Microsoft, EA, Activision and every company that's ever fucked the gamer over. Apologize, fix your shit then watch the money roll in. My only gripe with this is that I still have to wait probably a year and a half for v2.0 of the 3DS. |
Quote:
I completely agree. However, because you said you wanted an escuffle, I'ma fuck yo shit up, biznatch. |
It's especially refreshing after the chorus of "USED GAME SALES! PIRACY! WE'RE INCREASING PRICES WITH HIDDEN OR BACKDOOR FEES!"
And it has a positive effect. The more they do in this vein, the more I actually want a 3DS. |
What if they're improving the store to allow online passes?! :'(

I'm not that paranoid, honest.

You're probably not the only person who thought of it.
But portable games are already pretty expensive used, so I think online passes will crash and burn here. |
Only confirmed so far for Europe but a limited edition Zelda 25th anniversary 3DS bundle will be arriving on November 25 and come with Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D as the free game.

Awesome. If only I have a shit about Zelda, I'd be all over that like Sascha on being a bitch.

Ok, I think I might get that 3DS rather than waiting God knows how much longer for the redesigned version. Now I just have to find a shop that's selling it. GAMEs site has nothing about it but, then again, they still haven't updated the release info for MGS HD collection.
Also, 5 minutes of Mario talking about the 3DS: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KYa7G467_Yo?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

Someone managed to figure out how long the battery lasts for the Circle Pad attachment and it comes to be about 480 hours.
Also did the comparison with the average hours for the 3DS and it would take 96 recharges to match the hours of the Circle Pad. http://www.screwattack.com/news/3ds-...n-go-long-time |
Wow. On the other hand, I'm just gonna wait for the upgraded version that comes with it built-in.
|
Gamestop won exclusive rights to sell the Circle Pad for the 3DS (store and online) so it won't be available anywhere else for the near future.
The good news is they won't be able to add their $5 "Gamestop" tax like they do with a lot of accessories and games (ex. Wii Zapper was $25 at Gamestop while $20 everywhere else). http://www.screwattack.com/news/circ...op-exclusive-0 Nintendo also revealed the entire list for GBA games in the Ambassador program with Europe and Japan getting them on December 16 while US doesn't have a date yet but still expected before the end of the month. Some 3DS news:
Fire Emblem on the 3DS will be the first Nintendo-made game to have DLC content. Although they've stated multiple times they won't suddenly be adding DLC for every single Nintendo-made game nor will content be taken out just to resell it like a lot of publishers do. http://www.screwattack.com/news/comm...ds-fire-emblem Kid Icarus Uprising will have both local and online multiplayer with 3v3 team matches and "battle royales" announced so far for modes. Demos will be arriving soon on the eShop for 3DS games with 5 games announced as the 1st batch although only in Japan with no news on when the demo service will be added to other regions. The demos are limited in a sense that they only allow 30 play sessions or boot-ups before becoming inactive. Quote:
