A little more info on gems:

Catch up on what we know so far, after the break!

Capcom said it's Magic: The Gathering meets Street Fighter.

Gems are equipped prior to a match and add special abilities or buffs to your character. Gems only add abilities when they are activated in a match. Activation requirements vary. You may need to land a certain number of normals or specials, or you may have to take a certain amount of damage.

Certain gems can be equipped in multiples, with activation requirements increasing for each successive gem. The enhancements also stack. For example, the first two Power gems add 10% each to attack power, while the third adds another twenty. When all three are activated, that enables a 40% damage boost.

There are also support abilities such as auto-guard and auto-throw break. Auto guard guards any attack, so long as you are able (i.e. not in recovery frames) but costs 1 bar of meter per blocked attack. If you have no meter while the auto-guard gem is active, it won't do anything.

Awesome. Sooner than I thought.

Khuntry 10-15-2011 03:42 AM

this game... is awesome.

Kalyx triaD 10-15-2011 03:50 AM

Says before I says again: Fighting game of 2012.

Drakul 10-16-2011 02:43 AM

I've been wondering if gems and Pandora can be used simultaneously or if Pandora deactivates gems.

Pandora gives you a huge power boost and red gems give you power boosts as well, the more red gems you use, the bigger the boost.
So, what if I play as Zangief, use a power gem in every slot, activate them all and then activate Pandora? Zangiefs SPD does about 50% damage when he's using Pandora, even without gems activated.

Would I be in some kind of "one hit KO" mode if I had both activated?

Kalyx triaD 10-16-2011 03:39 AM

I remember seeing a Pandora mode with orbs flying around you. I suspect Pandora activated all your Gems at once. So yeah... you'd be a god. That makes Pandora a bit more dangerous, I guess. Still needs more time.

Drakul 10-16-2011 04:01 AM

The cool thing is that I could go that route or I can use his built in strength and use the gems to make him move really fast, making it easier to grab people.
Same for other characters, if Akuma is in, he's always pretty speedy, so you could just stuff him full of whatever gems will increase his health bar and be much more of a challenge for whoever you're fighting.

Kalyx triaD 10-16-2011 12:01 PM

Buffing your weakness character or skill-wise would be a good idea. I wanna know what the other Gems are. 45 seems like a lot of ideas.

Drakul 10-16-2011 12:20 PM

They are probably including multiples.

Drakul 10-18-2011 08:20 AM

30 min interview about Gems that I didn't watch:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/u65y6Grl3m4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Run down by someone that did watch it:

• There will be no option to disable gems in SFxT. Ono said they're too important to the gameplay.

• Gems are designed to be complex — for advanced players. They really want you to think about which gems will fit your play style and approach.

• Preset gem packages for new players will help them along, though.

• The DLC load times for SSF4 AE are partially a problem with the infrastructure on XBL/PSN. Capcom is aware that this is an issue, though.

• Not all gems in SFxT will be opened up from the get go, DLC and other stuff will make more of them available. There will be a starter set available right out of the gate.

• There are two kinds of gems, one is passive and another is active. One type is geared towards new players, that help with blocking and throwing, and another type of gems that are for high level players, the latter of which adding a more strategic element.

Drakul 10-21-2011 07:21 AM

A few bits of info from a 9 minute audio interview with Seth Killian.

Quote:

• Gems are specific to each character on your team in SFxT. i.e. If you have Ryu and Kazuya on your squad, each fighter can have their own set of gems, they don't have to share the same 5.

• He adds that gems can be used to help balance the game yourself, adding relatively small bonuses to your attributes.

• Seth mentions that people haven't had a chance to go hands on with the gem system, but he understands there's not that much information out there. He hopes people check it out before they jump the gun.

Drakul 10-28-2011 02:40 AM

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/20...ukasboot01.jpg

Eventhubs says it's clearly this character:

Another thing I saw on Tuesday, on Street Fighters Facebook page:

Quote:

Who's ready for Halloween? Street Fighter's Vega and Tekken's King stay ready. You have to respect the commitment.
Maybe it's nothing, maybe Vega will be reveal on Halloween.

Captain of Fun 10-28-2011 02:53 AM

She's a good fit for this game.

Funky Fly 10-28-2011 01:52 PM

Win. Some of my Tekken favourites are in. Still waiting on Bruce, Bryan and Eddy.

Captain of Fun 10-28-2011 05:32 PM

I'd say Bruce is unlikely, but Bryan and Eddy are two of the most populare characters in the series. No way do they get left out.

Kalyx triaD 10-28-2011 09:48 PM

I wouldn't say they're that popular over Jin and Nina.

Captain of Fun 10-29-2011 02:06 AM

I said two of the most popular. Not THE most popular.

Drakul 10-29-2011 03:20 AM

Is the LE up for pre order on any US sites? I can't see it on any UK sites yet.

Also, he adds that it's possible not to select any gems before a match, but there isn't a no gems option which locks them out of play.

This is a really good write up if you're interested in more details about the gem system. Here's a snip.

The Money Specter

How players will be able to get gems has also been a major topic of player discussion, with rumors suggesting microtransactions or grinding will be necessary.

"At this point we're still sort of figuring that stuff out," says Killian. "The game comes with some gems, some of them will be available as preorder bonuses and things like that." Some may be available packaged with DLC, as well.

"There's also worry about this guy [that] has more money and buys the special edition -- will he have an advantage over me?" The answer, says Killian, is no. "The gems, in the way we've approached them, are balanced against each other."

"If one gem has a bigger damage bonus, it has harder activation conditions."

Drakul 11-01-2011 04:21 AM

Pandora could be cut.

Pandora [mode] right now I would say is pretty weak-sauce. I would not activate it. We're still playing with it and trying to figure [it] out... This is not the final form.

We're going to try to make Pandora more interesting or just cut it, I'm not above cutting it even though we just announced it.

So they might cut Pandora and it turns out you can start a match without selecting any gems. I get the feeling the community bitching about every little thing that isn't "tourney worthy" is a big factor in those design choices. Which is stupid.

It's good when a company listens to the fanbase but do they have to listen to the wrong things? Gems were supposed to be a big deal in the game but now it seems they aren't. They can't be, if you can play without them. Pandora was supposed to be a big "unholy gamble" mechanic but they might just get rid of it, though I hope they don't. I'd rather then just fixed it up a bit.

Maybe, instead of designing the game to what a small section of the people that play it want, Capcom could tell those people to adapt.

If they want to play as Ryu with in a generic, vanilla match. Go play SFII or SFIV.

Kalyx triaD 11-01-2011 11:42 AM

I'd just make the timer longer, perhaps relative to how much life your possessed partner had at the time. It's a cool idea, but the timer is short and more property adjustments should happen to allow more chances to open somebody up (like unblockable status on certain attacks).

Boomer 11-01-2011 12:07 PM

All this online hate about the gem system is stupid. The game is like five months out, and no one has even played a demo with the gem system implemented. I will definitely be upset if the gem system is ignored by the tournament scene.

Kalyx triaD 11-01-2011 12:39 PM

The DLC/preorder thing is what really set people off (and I sympathize a bit), Capcom got carried away there. If the Gems were all stock and unlocked as you go, like getting better versions of a certain Gem after a while, people would be more accepting I think. Why would you say you need something and then charge premium for some? Of course that would draw lines in the sand (not only in the tourny scene).

And yeah some people don't like the Gems in general. Fuck em. Not every game has to be 'tourny viable'.

Drakul 11-01-2011 01:01 PM

FPS games can do it with guns and racers can do it with cars. RDR did it with one of its DLC packs. If you bought a certain pack (I forget which) you got access to guns in Free Roam that those without the pack couldn't use. The loading screen even tells you that hitting someone who hasn't bought the tomahawk with the tomahawk would kill them in one hit.

I don't think anyone kicked up a fuss about that (even when one of them was an explosive rifle. One bullet from that and you are blown to mush.) or when someone used their preorder bonus super car in a Forza game in an online race.

If it worries them so much, tourney players can just not use the preorder gems in tournies and make a list of which gems they can use. Maybe whichever gems give the smallest boost in speed/strength/vitality etc.

As for Pandora, my only problem with it was that you just had to block or run away for 7 seconds and the Pandora user would die. I just read today that another way around it would be to activate your Pandora a second or two after your opponent activates theirs so they die first.
So if they could sort that out, we'd be good to go.

Maybe have Pandora only usable by whoever activates it first in a match. Maybe have guarding a bad choice with a high enough chip damage from Pandora attacks to give the opponent reason to try and fight instead.

Kalyx triaD 11-01-2011 03:45 PM

Fuck it, all Pandora attacks should be unblockable. Then I wouldn't care about the time limit and shit gets hype/terrifying real quick.

Drakul 11-01-2011 03:51 PM

Unblockable Pandora Hadoukens. Chilling.

Captain of Fun 11-01-2011 03:53 PM

Gems offer so much strategy and depth. Pussy ass tourney players can go fuck themselves. TPWW crowd is where it's at.

Hell, the Dramatic Battle thing with two characters on your ass (especially both human controlled) will lead to way worse unblockable set-ups. Pandora might as well be crazy.

Drakul 11-01-2011 04:25 PM

I've already seen what my future holds when my opponent has both his guys on screen at once. Ryu on one side, Ken on the other. Hadoukenfest.
It's actually in one of the trailers that shows off having both characters on screen.

Kalyx triaD 11-01-2011 04:30 PM

More likely your big guys are gonna deal with tandem jump attack + low attack strings. Fireballs from both sides will be a cake walk.

Drakul 11-01-2011 04:34 PM

I'm hoping it will be. I guess a spinning clothesline should deal with something like that. I wonder if they'll have a "range" gem. So your attacks have a bigger range. Or would that be a bit too much?

Kalyx triaD 11-01-2011 04:36 PM

That may be possible, since they said they have other Gems of different types. Probably have throw range extenders as well.

Drakul 11-02-2011 02:21 AM

I guess it depends how far they want to go with gems. The "safe" option would be to have gems only effect attributes like speed and stamina.
If they wanted to go all out, they could add in things like increasing your range, maybe an armour gem that decreases the damage you take when you get under 30% or something and walk through projectiles after you get hit by 3 or 4 in a certain time limit.

I'm not bumping the SSFIV thread so I'll put this here:

Emperor Smeat 11-08-2011 06:32 PM

Capcom assures potential consumers that they have zero plans for a Super or yearly edition for SFxT and instead the game will be supported just with DLC like they had promised but failed with MvC 3.

Also confined is these DLC updates will mostly be patches and maybe colors/outfits instead of just new characters and/or modes.

http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...e-dlc-updates/

Drakul 11-09-2011 02:06 AM

Seth has said there are a lot of characters still to come, including old characters that have yet to come back. SF1 characters, maybe?

I'm thinking the next two SF guys will be Vega and M.Bison, though my reason is a little weak.

The Street Fighter Facebook page made mention of SFxT on Halloween saying King of Tekken and Vega of Street fighter are ready for Halloween all year round.

Then, yesterday, they made a SFxT post asking who was the better villan, Heihachi or Bison.

Ok, it's a little weak, like I said, but it is odd that the last two times they made a SFxT post it contained two SF guys that haven't shown up and would go togethor as a team (Team Shadowloo).

Drakul 11-11-2011 02:40 AM

Drakul 11-11-2011 02:42 AM

Okay, everyone I want is in the game except Sodom. If he gets in, I'll be completely happy with the entire game.

I need Vega too so my brother and I can team up online.

Kalyx triaD 11-11-2011 04:57 AM

R.Mika. I recall her being closer to Fuerte than a grappler (Alpha 3 was a long time ago, need to reference vids).

Maki from Final Fight would be fun.

Drakul 11-11-2011 05:05 AM

I remember her bouncing off stuff and doing running butt bounces. So I think she was El Fuerte like but I think she had some standing grapples do. Didn't she have a northern lights suplex or something?

If Zangief isn't her partner, it might be El Furte.

Khuntry 11-11-2011 03:22 PM

Needs moar grapplers.

Funky Fly 11-11-2011 06:26 PM

Needs moar T. HAWK

I'm guessing, by the use of "moar", you think we have too many of them?

About half the cast (18/39) of SSFIVAE had projectiles and the game only had 4 or so characters you could consider grapplers. No one batted an eyelid.

Of the confimed characters for SFxT, only 5 of the 28 revealed are grapplers while 9 of the 14 SF characters revealed have projectiles. Over half the SF cast have projectiles in this game but people still want Sakura, Juri, Akuma and Rose. I can't talk for Tekken because I don't know it well enough to know who does and doesn't have projectiles.

Every time someone with a grapple move is revealed or teased someone (usually on Eventhubs) always says the game has too many grapplers.

By the time everyone is revealed, I think grapplers will still be a very small number and projectiles will make up most of the cast or, at least, most of the SF cast.

The game doesn't have too many grapplers. They are just finally giving people who prefer playing that way a choice for once.

Kalyx triaD 11-12-2011 03:48 AM

There's a good chance you should have verified his meaning before posting that.

Drakul 11-12-2011 03:51 AM

It wasn't really directed right at Khuntry. Just at the whole idea in general that the game has too many grapplers. Something that seems to be a popular opinion, like I said.

Kalyx triaD 11-12-2011 03:56 AM

Fuck critics. Grab away.

Khuntry 11-12-2011 10:59 AM

Calm down. Could care less if they added ten moar grapplers. Actually pulling for Alex in this game ( very unlikely tho).

Drakul 11-12-2011 12:25 PM

As I said, I wasn't aiming anything at you.

You gave me an excuse to talk about a subject and I took it. No ill feeling towards you.

I can see Alex being one of the last revealed and being paired with Someone like Necro or some other random SFIII guy.

Funky Fly 11-12-2011 02:40 PM

Necro is a waste with Dhalsim there. There are differences and what not, but it's no different to me than throwing Remy in there with Guile already on the roster. Don't want to many Ken/Ryu type situations going now. Def want T. Hawk in there. Imagine him combined with someone quick and agile.

Khuntry 11-13-2011 02:43 AM

Necro's far more interesting than Dhalsim. Elena would be amazing in this game.

Drakul 11-13-2011 05:22 AM

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/20...pictwitter.jpg

Looks like it's just an alt for Kuma or something, meaning no Mika. They wouldn't give Kuma her outfit if she made it into the game.
That seems a bit harsh as far as "trolling" goes from a guy like Ono.

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0_5LnKVfS5M?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0_5LnKVfS5M?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>

Khuntry 11-13-2011 09:21 AM

Well thats Capcom for ya. They're real good at that shit. She's probably still in tho.

Drakul 11-16-2011 01:32 AM

Anyone expecting an announcement about characters anytime soon, you'll be waiting a while yet.
Ono said on his Twitter that we'll have to wait until the Asia Games Show. I looked it up and it runs from the 23rd to the 26th of December.

Also, someone asked about making Juli and Juni DLC for SFxT and Ono said it's a good idea and did that ;D smilie. I've noticed he usually does that when someone is onto something. Otherwise he usually says something like "I can't find their phone number" or "Battle Director would say no" and do a ;( smilie.

Kalyx triaD 11-16-2011 11:32 AM

The Killer Doll girls? You'd think people would object to 'Cammy shotos', then again guess not. I'm cool with it.

Ryu - Ogre (Tekken 3 boss)
Ken - Lars (Tekken 6 hero, Kazuya's brother)
Guile - Jack 6
Abel - Armor King (former King 'shoto')
Chun Li - Panda (Kuma model swap)
Cammy - King
Rufus - Angel (Tekken 2 Kazuya/Devil model swap)
Rolento - Raven
Ibuki - Yoshi- or Kunimitsu?
Hugo/Poison - Nothing from Tekken...
Sagat - Sergei Dragonuv
Dhalsim - Jinpachi (Heihachi's father)

Drakul 11-17-2011 01:54 AM

Cool.

I was thinking maybe these outfits were ways to give a nod to characters that wont make it in but I just looked at Eventhubs and they say Capcom is calling these "Swap Costumes" rather than "Alts".
We have Bob as Ryu and Julia as Chun-Li and a few others dressed as characters in the already in game.

Any chance that these could be hinting at unrevealed characters rather than characters that aren't in?

Edit: Panda wouldn't be a seperate character but I bet you could change the colour around Kumas eyes independantly of the rest of his face to make your own Panda skin.

Kalyx triaD 11-17-2011 11:35 AM

Yeah betting Kuma can be made into Panda with the edit.

I did think the alts heavily hinted at unrevealed characters but Angel and Panda threw me off - no way they'd include model swap characters (unless they are in via edit). Lars would be so fucking hype, though.

Gems are definitely something I want everyone to get a good understanding of.

This has already been shown off on the official site, but I’d like to write about the “Onslaught Gem”.

The Onslaught Gem allows you to absorb 50% more meter for your Cross Gauge.

http://fast1.onesite.com/capcom-unit...72b8cfe2cc.jpg
↑Normally, Ryu’s close standing Heavy Punch gives you this much meter.

http://fast1.onesite.com/capcom-unit...84ddc3578e.jpg
↑One Onslaught Gem activated! You acquire more gauge than normal.

http://fast1.onesite.com/capcom-unit...72fa340de1.jpg
↑Gems can be set as long as you have the slots, so if you equip three Onslaught Gems, one close standing Heavy Punch gives you this much gauge! Just imagine all the awesome things you can do!

That’s about all for the Onslaught Gem.

Oh, and to activate the effects of the Boost Gem? Yup, they require that you meet certain conditions first. Check out this example!

Quote:

Onslaught Gem type example

Activation: Land 3 Special Moves
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%
Duration: 15 seconds

Activation: Land 1 Launcher
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%
Duration: 15 seconds

Activation: Your partner lands a Launcher
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%

Hm, all Boost Gems have various effects and duration times. I’m sure there are some people there are thinking “I’ll equip three of the Gems with the ‘Get blocked 4 times’ condition! If my opponent turtles then I’ll get a ton of meter!”, and that’s great. There’s a lot of great ideas you can come up with! But wait!

With the current Gem system, you cannot equip two of the exact same Gem at the same time!

In other words, if you want to equip 3 Onslaught Gems, then you’ll have to equip 3 of them that have different activation conditions!

Yeah, that’s rough, huh? This Gem system is basically set up so if you want to get a great benefit, the conditions become harsher and harsher.

While you’re not used to the system, maybe it’s better to just equip a bunch of Gems that activate one by one.

Shopping carts on the colours. In game shop to buy colours and other things?
Edit: Just notice the word "STORE" in the first screenshot of the main menu. So, think we'll have to buy characters, stages etc? Will costumes be ingame or DLC?

#BROKEN Hasney 12-01-2011 06:21 AM

It's Capcom, probably costumes and maybe characters.

Would laugh and not be shocked if colours are microtransaction funded rather than in game money.

#BROKEN Hasney 12-01-2011 06:35 AM

Probably gonna get this on PC now that's been officially confirmed. I'll get it stupidly cheap that way. "Future disc-based expansion ruled out." by Ono sold it.

Still kinda wish it was just SF tag battle rather than having those dull fucks from Tekken in it though.

Kalyx triaD 12-01-2011 06:48 AM

Perhaps pick Capcom roster only? Not as good as a full Capcom roster but pretending is fun.

Drakul 12-01-2011 09:20 AM

I've always thought it would be kind of cool if you could deactivate certain characters so you never fought them in Arcade Mode.

So you could deactivate the Tekken guys and only fight the SF guys or, if you wanted to implement it for online, perhaps have the game rule out matches with people who have, for example, Ryu as their most used character.
It would cut down on fighting the same characters over and over again.

Kalyx triaD 12-01-2011 02:36 PM

That's life, dude. Better to deal with it, repetitive as it is.

Kalyx triaD 12-09-2011 04:46 PM

This was really a perfectly fine game before the Gem business but I would still like to try it.

Drakul 12-10-2011 02:40 AM

It would have been fun without the gems but everyone would complain it's just SF4 with Tekken characters. Even with the inclusion of gems, pandora and tag teams, some people still complain that its just SF4 with Tekken characters.

I'm confident Capcom know what they are doing and it'll still be fun with gems and Pandora. They wont screw up a game people have wanted since the 90's.

When I say "they wont screw up", I mean to a normal players standards, like you and I, not the standards of the uppity fanbase that have done nothing but bitch about every new thing and say they wont buy the game when they obviously will.
If it was up to them, we'd see the exact same game brought out each time with no new mechanics or modes.

As for playing without gems, couldn't you select gems that have conditions you know you wouldn't meet? Like playing as Chun-Li and picking a gem that requires you to perform 5 grapples.
I'm sure Ono or someone said there was ways to not play with gems. I can't quite remember.

Calling it now, every match I am winning online will end in a rage quit when my Zangief speeds up or gains more strength. If the match ends, I'm betting I get negative feedback for cheating or being too aggressive. It still amuses me that people accused me of over aggressiveness in a fighting game in which I play as a wrestler.

Gems will be awesome for the people online that beat me with their gems and they'll be "for skill-less scrubs like you!" when I beat them using my gems.

I am looking forward to seeing the effect each gem has on each character and what other gems the game will have, if any.
I'm hoping it adds a bit of variety online. Fighting a Ryu with added strength, then a Ryu with added speed. It may not be a different character but it'll add some variation.
Unless someone figures out the "best" combo of gems to use and then everyone uses them. I'm trying to end this post on a positive note but I can't.

Kalyx triaD 12-10-2011 04:31 AM

I know you're happy with so many grapplers in the game. I don't have as many legacy characters but I so want this game. So much fun looking at it.

Blitz 12-10-2011 05:49 AM

I really hope they take the Pandora system out. The Gem system and tag system are more than enough.

Kalyx triaD 12-10-2011 05:59 AM

It's optional, easy enough not to do it. I just wish it was more bang for my buck. Maybe changes will come.

Guess they delayed the news. And yeah, Boxing Day may allude to Balrog or even Dudley.

Boost Gems are the backbone of the game, enabling you to customize a character with all kinds of additional powers and effects in five classes - Attack, Defense, Speed, Vitality and Cross Gauge acquisition. However, Boost Gems must be activated in each round by meeting certain criteria, and said criteria generally increase based upon the power level of the gem. There could also be drawbacks to compensate for the boost. For example:

Immense Power Lvl 1 || Effect: +10% damage || Duration: 20 seconds || Activation: Land 5 normal moves
Immense Power Lvl 2 || Effect: +20% damage || Duration: 15 seconds || Activation: Land 10 normal moves || Drawback: -10% speed

So, while the Level 2 gem (in this example) offers a bigger power boost, it requires a bit more work to activate, and also slows your character slightly. No gem is intended to be overpowered, and these are balanced through a combination of the benefit, activation condition, time the gem remains active, drawback and how many gem slots are required to equip.

Unlike Boost Gems, Assists are always active and benefit you as a player, not necessarily the characters you choose. They affect the difficulty of your inputs, or enable you to auto block or escape from throws easier. Now, while these sound like game-breaking boons, they actually come with a hefty price, be it a 10% drop in attack power or chunks of the Cross Gauge. Examples:

Easy Input || Effect: Special moves become easier to do || Drawback: Attack decreases 10% in battle
Auto Block || Effect: Block attacks automatically || Drawback: Cross Gauge decreases by 1 block when activated

In short, Auto Block is not a magic win button. Each time you fail to block an attack, you burn off a section of your meter. No meter? No Auto Block. While this could help a new player survive a few clumsy block gaffs, a high-level player may opt to choose a gem that provides a specific boost instead of the meter-leeching Auto Block. As for Easy Input, it's akin to Simple mode in Marvel vs Capcom 3 - fireballs and other special moves are easier to do, but you sacrifice other areas as a trade.

A total of 57 GEMs (5 Assist and 52 Boost) come standard in Street Fighter X Tekken. Players have the ability to equip three different GEMs that improve upon weaknesses or capitalize on strengths to enhance their inherent play style. The two types of GEMs, Assist and Boost, each have specific advantages and disadvantages.

Players can select any combination of the Assist GEMs, which provide helpful bonuses that are always activated but balanced by handicaps in other areas. Conversely, Boost GEMs provide a stat increase in one of five areas (attack, defence, speed, cross gauge, vitality) but require a specific condition to be met in order to be activated.

As an example, a particular speed Boost GEM will be activated automatically after a player blocks 2-3 stringed attacks from their opponent. As GEMs are assigned prior to a match, the activation conditions for the Boost GEMs are hidden from opponents, promoting an element of surprise that requires players to think and act quickly.

For anyone that didn't watch the video, they confirm that you can play without using gems but they don't set you up with other gemless players online, so theres a big chance you'll be at a disadvantage when you turn up gemless to an online match.

Still, if you play offline or with other TPWWers, you could have gemless fights. I'm happy with gems, though.

Japan is getting a different LE from the US. The Japanese LE comes with an artbook and a 2 disc soundtrack containing 46 tracks.

No idea what Europe will get.

Kalyx triaD 12-16-2011 08:58 AM

Okay, I have thoroughly read the gem blog until I got it. I am officially perfectly okay with the Gem system and excited about it. I am already running theories in my head on what I'd use with who.

Cammy:
Slot 1: Divine Speed Lv.1 - Speed +10, 20s - Connect with a launcher
Slot 2: Immense Power Lv.2 - Attack +20/Speed -10, 15s - Connect with a launcher
Slot 3: Divine Speed Lv.1 - Speed +10, 20s - Connect five normal moves

The point here is Immense Power with the drawback neutralized. I trust myself to land five normals with Cammy so I will have the speed I want.

Ken:
Slot 1: Divine Speed Lv.2 - Speed +15/Defense -8, 15s - Connect four special moves
Slot 2: Iron Wall Lv.1 - Defense +10, 20s - Get hit by two special moves
Slot 3: Immense Power Lv.1 - Attack +10, 20s - Land three special moves

Speed and power based on how well I'm doing. Iron Wall has a fail safe. I'm balls to the wall with Ken.

Drakul 12-16-2011 04:44 PM

I'm thinking of using Immense Power Level 3, Fortitude Level 3 and Devine Speed Level 3. All three are activated by using Pandora which is also a huge boost in itself.

I like to hit hard and the harder, the better. The 20% speed increase on top should stop people from getting away.

Kalyx triaD 12-16-2011 04:53 PM

Pandora's a gamble even with those buffs. Unless you come up with some mean throw traps.

Drakul 12-17-2011 02:16 AM

Maybe I wont go for those gems right away but I think they'll be my target gems. The ones I want to eventually be able to use well.

Speaking of Pandora, I was watching an old trailer just now and I noticed, at 0:23, that Pandora gets deactivated after Rolento is finished using it. It's an old video so I'll just link to it here.

I'm sure it's most probably just them deactivating it to continue recording more footage for videos but you'd think they'd cut the deactivation footage out before showing the trailer. Also, it fades away. I'd have thought something that was just in for the developers convenience would just snap away, like flicking a switch off.

If Pandora could be deactivated, they'd have told us by now, right?

Kalyx triaD 12-17-2011 11:28 AM

They made a big deal about it being a one time gamble in the match. I doubt you can just turn it off.

Drakul 12-17-2011 01:28 PM

Pandora Deactivation Gem DLC: 800 MSP :shifty:

Kalyx triaD 12-17-2011 01:40 PM

Activation Conditions: Activate Pandora

Drakul 12-17-2011 01:58 PM

They could really cash in with some ridiculous Gem DLC.

Extend Pandora time
Homing projectiles (for 10 seconds after missing 5 times with projectiles)
No flinching (you still take damage but don't fall down or slide back after being hit)
No stun
Double jump
Super jump
Air dash
