Ubisoft announces several dates in regards to Rayman Legends.
US/Canada release date is now February 26, 2013. UK/Europe gets the game on March 1st. Demo set to arrive on December 13 although that might be just for Europe/UK only. http://www.destructoid.com/rayman-le...--240089.phtml |
Turns out Germany is the reason why the European eShop has the restricted hours for buying certain games. It was done for two reasons with the first being so Nintendo didn't have to create different eShops for the European region and because their HQ is located in Germany itself.
http://www.screwattack.com/news/upda...-4-hour-window |
Yep.
Germany, UK and Australia are the leading advocates against "mature content" in video games. I was living in Germany when Call of Duty 4 came out and had to have a friend order it from The Netherlands just to have it. |
No, we're fine in the UK. You just need an ID to buy games that are over 18, which is perfectly fine.
|
The Wii mode is pretty much cracked wide open. Not only that, but it still boots Gamecube games. The makers of Devolution, a USB Gamecube game booter for the Wii, thinks they can hack in Classic Controller support, meaning that the Wii U would be able to play pretty much any home console Nintendo game. The only gaps being patchy N64. Can't remember if something on Wii supports SuperFX.
|
I had trouble emulating most N64 games on Wii. The only one I remember working nearly perfectly was Super Mario 64.
|
Pretty much. Ended up having to stick with the Virtual Console WADs that at least has a lot of the best ones.
|
Rayman Legends demo was released today on the eShop although it is limited to just 30 play sessions. Demo is around 500 MB in size.
http://www.screwattack.com/video/The...-Wii-U-5447661 According to Nintendo, publishers/developers have complete control over the demo system on the Network to the point they can determine how long it stays on eShop, time limits, and play sessions limit. Its the same system used for 3DS demos. http://www.screwattack.com/news/wii-...ated-publisher According to the ZombiU development team, they were disappointed with the early reviews mostly because of how harsh they were compared to later reviews and for those same reviewers being upset that a game about survival horror actually ended up being a game involving survival horror. Quote:
Since the Nintendo Network has to work around the older Wii and DS networks, transferring stuff and IDs from one console to another still require Nintendo to do it themselves. Once both WiiWare and DSiware are phased out, it would work just like how eShop stuff can be transferred between handhelds. |
No Wii U version of Metal Gear Rising is being considered by Kojima with the official reason of him not considering the tablet as an actual controller.
Won't even consider just using the Pro Controller instead or if they have to do more work than just as a straight port from the PS3/Xbox 360 version. http://www.destructoid.com/metal-gea...u-240831.phtml |
http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/188v...jpg/xlarge.jpg
Who has this? Is it as awesome as I want it to be? I need to play fighting games with it. |
I haven't, but I did get the SNES classic controller from Club Nintendo which is an exact replica of the SNES pad.
|
How do I get the benifits of having a deluxe Wii U as far as eShop goes? There's some thing where I'll get money back towards a future download once I spend X amount. No idea if I have to do anything specific to get it set up or if it's already set up.
Also not exactly pleased with the way money can be added to your eShop balance in chucks of £10, £20, £50 and something insane like £110. Yet there are games going for £10.99. So, if I want that game, I've to spend £20. |
Go here for the premium thingy: https://p.nintendo.net/premium/login.do You get eight points per £1 spent, meaning you'll be eligible for your £5 voucher after spending £62.50 because you can only cash in after 500 points.
You can just spend the exact amount for the games. Instead of topping up, just click "pay remaining balance by card" and it will just charge you the exact price of the game. |
The above is the info I've found on it, but I've just logged in and only bought NSMBU, Nano Assault Neo and Trine 2 and I have 2 activation codes.
Must have counted Nintendo Land from Amazon as a purchase too since I got the code, which is a nice touch. EDIT: Found a statement and it did count it. Sexxxxyyyy. |

|
I'm in the UK and I have a Premium Pack. Do I have to buy a game from the eShop first?
|
Can you buy old snes or n64 games yet on eshop?
|
Think its only available through the Wii section of the eShop until Nintendo finishes up unifying all the shops they currently have into a single eShop.
I'd guess by March since they already said that is when everything they didn't finish and early patching of the Network would be all done. |
Got this from Santa, been downloading the update for about 2 hours already :'(
|
Cheers meat ball, anyone got black ops 2 and is it worth buying?
|
According to Miyamoto , Pikmin 3 will be closer in gameplay style to Pikmin 1 than Pikmin 2. Also want a heavier emphasis on strategy decisions which is something Pikmin 2 either dropped or streamlined to be a quicker game.
Quote:
|
Got NSMBU. Not sure what pink baby Yoshi is for. I know he inflates but I've lugged him around for 4 or 5 levels and he's not leaving or anything. He does kill any challenge because you can just charge through enemies and he'll eat them.
|
Probably going to get patched as soon as possible but apparently buying a used Wii U can unlock whatever was purchased by the previous owner even if the Network ID is removed or transferred.
Either Nintendo hasn't finished up reworking the transferring setup or something went wrong since purchases ended up being tied to the console ID and not a Network ID or a combo of both. Think Microsoft uses a combo system when it comes to transferring content rights. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...ast-purchases/ |
Was in my local HMV section yesterday, and the Wii U section was pitiful. Absolutely pitiful. Like it was a SNES section in 1997.
|
Nintendo might be considering dropping the non-deluxe bundle mostly because everyone wants the Deluxe version and they somewhat overestimated the demand for the cheaper model.
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...s-a-challenge/ According to Crytek, Crysis 3 will not be arriving for the Wii U nor is there any plans to work on a version after the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions get released next month. Nintendo did ask if they could work on a version but EA ended up declining the offer. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...for-you-wii-u/ Nintendo stated they will be making Free-To-Play games for the Wii U in the future but none of their "established" franchises will be included. Instead Nintendo is planning on using the model to develop new series and IPs. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...o-be-involved/ |
Nintendo announces they are currently working on a dedicated version of the Virtual Console for the Wii U with all games to be playable on the Gamepad itself.
http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...pad-only-play/ |
Nintendo currently working on improving the speed and stability of the Wii U OS. They've managed to improve on some of the OS issues since launch and probably are targeting March to have the situation resolved.
http://wiiudaily.com/2013/01/nintend...slow-wii-u-os/ The Wii U version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted is arriving on March 19 while Monster Hunter Ultimate also arrives on the same day (along with the 3DS version of the game). http://www.destructoid.com/need-for-...9-242584.phtml http://www.destructoid.com/monster-h...e-242568.phtml Nintendo also released all the game currently planned to be released for the Wii U during this Spring (along with 3DS and Wii games). http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-...e-242578.phtml According to the UK watchdog group ASA, the debut tv ad for the Wii U has been banned due to being misleading in regards to implying every game has the ability to put gameplay from the tv to the GamePad when in fact it is only an option and only used for a few games. http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...ng-misleading/ |
Wii U Nintendo Direct tomorrow, 2pm UK time.
Japanese tweet clarifies it'll be talking about first party games/services for Wii U. |
Quote:
I'm finally getting around to transferring my Wii stuff to my Wii U. I have VC games on my SD card already, will they be transfered to or what? Hugely worried about doing something wrong and only transferring 1/3 of my stuff, losing another 1/3 and somehow being unable to ever transfer 1/3 because it's a one time online thing. So, VC and WiiWare games on SD card. How does this work? |
Saves on the SD card won't be transferred, but all content bought through the store, no matter if it's installed or not, will be. It works by using the Wii Shop Purchase History and then downloads it all on the Wii U rather than actually move things to the SD card.
|
Ok, cool.

We had that rumour about SSB4 getting revealed in January 2013. I am 90% sure we'll see something about SSB4 during this ND. It may even just be a 30 second teaser that doesn't explicitly say it's SSB but I still think we'll get something. |
I think it's going to be that leaked Yoshi Land or whatever. If it's anything SSB, it's going to be in pre-rendered form showing off some characters.
Also digging through the webpage source for the UK Nintendo Direct, it does mention Wii U Virtual Console too so we might hear about that along with Wii Fit U. Still, JUST OVER 5 HOURS TO GO http://i.imgur.com/1VWTK12.gif |
I'd be totally happy with a pre-rendered Smash trailer. That's all I want.
Wasn't the leaked Yoshi Land game proven to be a hoax? |
Any link to the official stream yet? Just so I don't have to scramble for it 3 minutes from the start.
|
|
Danke.
I had to wait until 11pm to download the Zombiu demo and I've still not tried it. Going to go try it now and either find it too creepy for me and stop playing or be disappointed if it's not creepy at all. Then stop playing. |
There's going to be a 30p VC game per month for Wii U until July for the 30th Famicom Anniversary.
Was quite happy with Balloon Fight for that price.... Then I read Japan are getting fucking Mother 2 for that price. |
The gist of the Nintendo Direct was "Hey, guys, we're making this game...but we can't show you it for another six months."
I thought they said a few years back that they'd only announce games when they were very near completion. Now they seem to be announcing a game the minute they decide to make it. |
Erm, let me just get my shit together and recap a little.
|
Where can I DL Balloon Fight? It's not on the WiiU eShop yet.
|
Also we will soon be able to make our own Miiverse community. So, TPWW private community?

Oh, for people who didn't see it as well, the Wind Waker remake is an actual remake. They're not just shoving it in 1080p, they're redoing it and changing some of the game too. LOOK HOW DELIGHTFUL IT LOOKS:

Downloaded Balloon Fight. Playable on the pad but looks a little dark.
|
Honest to god, cannot believe some of the shit they announced still.
Panic mode Nintendo is the best Nintendo. |
That's probably why they padded out the first ten minutes with Miiverse and 98% of the game info was basically "It exists but we can't show it yet.".

Oh yeah, pretty much. I much prefer to know that this shit is happening rather than the original plan of only announcing things when they were close. The things that talked about in that respect though were things we all assumed were being worked on. Then Yarn Yoshi was nice, Wind Waker remake was amazing and I'm thinking YOU KNOW, HOT LINE-UP, WILL KISS MY WII U WHEN I GET HOME.
Then Iwata said "Oh yeah, one more thing. Here's a couple of other games". SMT X FE & MONILOTHSOFT BOOM MEGATON DROPPED Iwata then said "I hope you enjoyed that" like he had just given me the best sex I could ever have. You know what? I think he did. |
I didn't really care about the whole FE thing or that X game, whatever it's called.
I was happy to hear about WW HD and to get confirmation that new Mario, Mario Kart & Zelda games are being made. I'm sure Yoshi Yarn will be fun but I think they should have avoided the yarn look. That's like having the new Mario done in Wind Waker style. |
Quote:
At least the Feb-May titles are pretty sexy. |
I'm buying them all. 7 games for £2.10 isn't bad at all.
|
Oh yeah, for 30p, I'll take what I'm given.
Here's some GIFs from that MonolithSoft game: http://www.abload.de/img/amekbv.gif http://www.abload.de/img/aturjs.gif http://www.abload.de/img/awajv0.gif |
The Monolith game looked like an MMORPG to me. No clue what it actually is.

I go to a news site and basically Nintendo just shat on everybody with E3 megaton-level shit. What a random day for Nintendo to fang up.
|
E3 is too mainstream.
http://www.ragehats.com/images/stories/nerd_glasses.jpg |
I miss Nintendo revealing games with exciting trailers like the original Twilight Princess or Brawl trailers.
Now they just mention it as if it's no big deal. |
Well for people like Nintendo it may actually not be a big deal. Who knows what type of shit they have playtesting in R&D since WiiU came out. They don't have a pulse on industry standards but hell if they're not the finest, purist game makers in the world.
|
No doubt they make great games. I'd just enjoy the revealing of Yarn Yoshi more if it was done with a coulourful, cute trailer with bouncy Disney-esque orchestral music.
Reavealing it with a short clip of Yoshi running across the screen and jumping on an enemy while we get spoken to like we're at a board meeting isn't as fun. I don't care if I'm almost 25, I still love Nintendos trailers and I'm sure I'll continue to even when I'm turning 65. |

Nintendo doing some "emergency maintenance" and fixes for the Wii U today with most ending by 5pm PST.
Quote:
According to Crystal Dynamic the reason for no Wii U version of the upcoming Tomb Raider game is because they didn't want to "half-ass" the port and couldn't think of anything unique to use the Gamepad for. PC version won't have anything special either and might be a straight console port. http://www.screwattack.com/news/tomb...i-u-appearance |
How is the Wii U? Contemplating buying my gf one. She loves her Wii, really into Mario and Zelda. Not into first person shooters or sports games. Is it worth investing in?
|
It's a good system, but you've only really got New Super Mario and Nintendo Land so far. Pikmin, Wario and The Wonderful 101 are out by summer and all look brilliant. Then we've got a gap and the only game I know of that is out this year that I'm looking forward to is Zelda: Wind Waker HD. The controller is also the best TV remote ever now TVii is out.
I wouldn't expect a price drop until the end of the year, but if you pick one up, get a deluxe one. The extra cost is worth it for Nintendo Land alone. |
Yeah, might wait until more games come out. She played Super Mario at a game store and loved it, so I might pick it up eventually.
|
Konami revises their "no chance" stance for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance having a Wii U port. The new official stance is they won't consider working on one until there is enough demand for one to be made.
Its also rumored Platinum Games wants to work on a Wii U version since they've gotten a bit cozy with Nintendo recently but Konami doesn't (or won't fund it). http://www.destructoid.com/no-metal-...d-243941.phtml |
According to Nintendo, the scanning or NFC feature that would let you scan items and have them show up in games is going to take a lot longer to finish than Nintendo expected. Its also a big reason why Rayman Legends won't have the feature possible since not even Ubisoft could get a working version done for Nintendo in time.
http://www.screwattack.com/news/iwat...-not-ready-yet Miyamoto states Pikmin 3 will only support the GamePad for control options. Quote:
|
Betting they abandon the scanning thing, in the end.

Rayman Legends no longer a Wii U exclusive and even though the game was supposed to be released this month, Ubisoft is delaying the game till September 2013 in order for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions to be released at the same time.
http://www.giantbomb.com/news/ubisof...versions/4548/ |
A lot of 360/PS3 games are getting delayed to September and the announcements seem to be coming around the same time.
An idiotic conspiracy nut might say this hints at the new Xbox and PS4 coming out in September and the big games being held back to become launch games. :shifty: |
That Monolith game looks amazing.

Nintendo announces a ZombiU deluxe bundle is arriving on Februrary 17 for North America. The bundle costs $390 and comes with the Deluxe version of the Wii U, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, a Pro Controller, an art book for ZombiU, and a commentary disc from the ZombiU developers.
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.c.../02/zombiu.jpg http://www.screwattack.com/news/zomb...-deluxe-bundle Platinum Games states The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2 will not join other recent Wii U exclusive games going multi-platform. They went as far as saying only Nintendo can make the decision regardless of what Sega wants. http://www.destructoid.com/platinum-...u-244389.phtml Ubisoft currently facing an internal rift due to the announcement of delaying Rayman Legends. Ubisoft also confirmed the delay is solely for multi-platform reasons and not anything to do with the game's actual development. http://www.destructoid.com/anonymous...--244359.phtml http://www.joystiq.com/2013/02/08/ub...legends-delay/ Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to have region-locked servers. http://www.destructoid.com/monster-h...s-244362.phtml |
Tank! Tank! Tank! is going free to play in Europe.
http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/tank-...-wii-u/0110760 Not bad, for nothing, you get 3 goes of any of the 3 basic modes each day and the option to pay £1.49 to download a mode permanently or get more levels and there's 10 of these packs. The £1.49 is a limited time offer though. They will go up to a stupid £7.99 at some point. Should be up on Thursday. |
Internal rift involving Ubisoft got a bit more interesting as the developers of Rayman Legends, Ubisoft Montpellier have joined a small protest against Ubisoft themselves. Besides members of the studio, several fans of the Rayman series, and even the creator of Rayman joined the protest.
Ubisoft Montpellier wants Ubisoft to drop the delay order for the Wii U version http://d1vr6n66ssr06c.cloudfront.net...lay_header.jpg Sign reads as "“Release Rayman, Support Ubisoft Montpellier." http://www.egmnow.com/articles/news/...delay-protest/ |
Sega denies recent rumors of Aliens Colonial Marines being cancelled for the Wii U although the game appears to have been delayed "indefinitely" with the small possibility of the Wii U version fixing most of the issues plagued with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
http://www.destructoid.com/aliens-co...u-245065.phtml According to the NPD, the Wii U managed to sell just 55,000 units in January which would make it one of the lowest ever compared to the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 lowest months. http://www.destructoid.com/npd-wii-u...y-245028.phtml Nintendo of Europe announces Tank! Tank! Tank! has become a free-to-play game. http://www.destructoid.com/tank-tank...e-245010.phtml |
According to Ubisoft Montpelier, Rayman Legends for the Wii U is getting an extra goodie to help make up for the delay announcement. Online Challenge mode will now become a free downloadable standalone mode to help pass the time because of the delay.

While EA in general might be loosing interest in the Wii U, at least their sub-studios are still interested in making games for it. Criterion Games said the reason Need for Speed: Most Wanted will be arriving on the Wii U is because of the Gamepad giving them some fresh ideas to do for that port.
Also ends up being the first Criterion to appear on a Nintendo console since Burnout 2 in 2002. http://www.destructoid.com/most-want...o-245792.phtml Nintendo states starting with F-Zero, every game for the 30 cents promotion will run in 60Hz for all regions after listening to complaints from Europe when they got the worse version of Balloon Fight (50Hz). http://www.destructoid.com/f-zero-on...z-246084.phtml Ubisoft currently having a sale on several digital Wii U games on the eShop and lasts until February 26. Watch, they'll play F-Zero and the community page will be full of "Why is it 60Hz? The music is too fast!! I want the music I remember from the PAL SNES version!" If it had been a remake of Balloon Fight then, yeah, crank it up to 60Hz but, as it's supposed to be an emulation of the PAL version, I think it should play like the PAL version did. |
No, fuck the PAL versions. There's a huge reason I imported consoles and it's because we were shafted. I knew that at 13, I know that now.
So happy that common sense prevailed on this one. |
It'll just lead to more crying for more stuff now they know it works.
First it was 60Hz, then it'll be demanding leaderboards and so on. Then you'll get crying for non-VC games. Crying that Waluigi isn't in Smash or because they reveal Zelda U will be cel shaded etc. |
That ship has sailed a long time ago, man.
|
Nope, it was a VC game. Just give us the best version possible and move on.
...Although I would love Waluigi in Smash. |
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Er67im9RlHI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I mean look at that horror show. For a game like F-Zero, it's required to be in 60Hz. If it was some turn-based RPG, whatever, just get rid of the borders if they can. But racing, it's gots to be all about that speed. |
Best reasoning against the 60Hz I've seen.

Doshin and his wobbly arms. He should probably be in SSB in some way. Character, assist or an entire level.

They've got Sonic Racing Transformed at that price too. I'd go with that.
