I've been watching WWE Raw lately because of The Rock vs. John Cena hype. The skit the Rock did last week was by far the most entertaining thing I've seen on WWE TV in ten years. It reminded me of the old-school days. One of the reasons why I stopped watching WWE on a regular basis was largely because the product became very stale. If Raw could be like that all the time, I'd still be a fan, but The Rock is apart of a dying breed it seems. He's totally carrying this feud, and making it entertaining. I'm watching Raw just for the war of words between those two. Both men have totally met their match, and the Rock is owning Cena weekly, and I'm loving every second of it. :y:

I recall ten years ago all the hype the Hollywood Hogan/Rock Wrestlemania 18 match was getting, and I was on Team Hollywood. But I recall having a thought back then - I am an old-school guy by nature. I'm loyal, nostalgic, and sentimental. And The Rock was a guy I hated, and he was young, and represented new-school WWE whereas Hulk Hogan represented old-school WWE, so I supported Hogan, and I thought back in 2002 that in ten years, The Rock will be the veteran of the WWE and probably be wrestling some new-school guy in a big, hyped up match at Wrestlemania, and I'd probably be cheering for The Rock. Well, that prediction has come true. Who knows. Maybe in another ten years when John Cena is 46-years old, and a WWE vet, he'll most likely be facing some new-school guy at Wrestlemania, and I may be cheering for Cena.

Most likely John Cena is going to win since The Rock is only coming back for this match, (so he can bring in a huge buy rate since Cena does not have the talent to do that on his name alone), and The Rock isn't going to stick around long after Wrestlemania, and since WWE and their current regular wrestlers, (especially their top star) have to look good, The Rock will very likely do the job to Cena, but we all know who the real champ is........It's so odd because I pretty much typed the same thing ten years ago on this very board, word-for-word when talking about the Hogan/Rock match. Times goes by way too fast.
In 2002, I would have consider 1992 to be caveman days. But as I sit here in 2012, 2002 doesn't feel like it was that long ago. I guess this is all apart of aging. |
The Rock is very likely not going to bring a huge buyrate.
He's not even bringing in ratings, which bodes poorly for Mania's buyrate. I mean, I can't guarantee you anything, but it seems like he's not packing in the fans. Several weeks of Rock's appearances actually lost viewers. While there is no direct correlation between buys and ratings, it's pretty good indicator. Now, cue someone who tells me I use buyrates to determine what I like or dislike, or someone who insists that since I just said that, I hate the Rock. or something similar. It's hard to track the shit people throw at me from out of left field. |

I'm not so much predicting as speculating based on past occurrences. It has little to do with weakening the position, because anyone convinced of these things will not easily be persuaded otherwise regardless. A recent example is Fangerl's whole assertion I didn't like Red Dead Redemption solely because I thought he, the poster was a complete moron.
People frequently attribute whatever belief is convenient at the moment to me, despite lack of evidence or even evidence to the contrary. I make these "predictions" largely because when it does come, it amuses me to see it happen despite such "predictions." It's as inevitable as the tides, it seems, as are explanations like this. I love The Rock, His work back in the day was some of the best of all time. For whatever reason though i'm just not feeling rocky lately. I guess i'm just bored with the rock routine: Show up, kiss up to whatever city he's in, trash whoever he's beefing with catchphrases and profanity, then leave. I guess it was cooler when I was younger. I Like Cena when they let him loose a bit. The rapper gimmick was funny as fuck. Honestly to me Im kinda whatever about the match. There's no way it'll live up to the hype. Punk Jericho and Hell in a Cell is goona be WAAAAAY better matches IMO.

The fact that the Rock really didnt touch on having much of a personal vendetta against Cena has watered down the fuedfor me. Heres Cena spitting fire about being the guy everynight, wanting to be nothing but what he is, etc. Rock has run out there with the usual schtick, which Ive found entertaining, but its really watered down the fued quite a bit, imo. I get the idea was to try and encourage a 50/50 crowd, but, to me, its only taken steam away from what could have been some read hot promos. Instead, Cena has undoubtedly steamrolled through the Rock, while the Rock has been his usual self. Still looking forward to the match based purely off what Im hoping will be a lively crowd.

I think Rock getting more into how he needs to beat Cena to have the Cena, Austin, Hogan victories to be the one man to beat three different era's top guys at WM was the best thing he's done as far as hyping the match. Made it seem like he genuinely NEEDS this win. Cena let that come across for weeks but Rock never really tried to make it seem like more than a paycheck until last night.

The Rock has hinted a few times before about why he needs the win but yeah yesterday was the first time he spent any real amount of time explaining it.
Outside of the initial weeks of the promo war, the whole set up has been to let Cena lash out with the promos and the Rock to entertain more which has helped Cena a lot and let the crowd get enjoyed with the Rock being back. Only downside is their feud never had them attacking or really physically confronting each other besides the occasional Rock Bottom or AA. I thought maybe at least the final RAW would have made it to the point of them teasing a brawl but didn't happen. |

Having Rock dominate the feud like that and then ending it with him winning is BAD BOOKING. If Cena had dominated the feud or at least made it a little even, I can see it. You don't have a guy just randomly attack and be a dick to the top babyface and then when the match comes along, have him win again and go on to celebrate in the ring again like he's the hero. |
