Most of the time, they do. The UK got Super Paper Mario 5 or 6 months after the US and we had a game freezing glitch on level 2-2. Thats the only time I can recall a Nintendo game having a serious bug in it though.

They said they would put up an address for UK gamers to send the glitched game to and they would send a working copy back to them for free but I still can't find the address anywhere online. Nevermind, I'm trading it in for the Simpsons game anyway.

On-Screen Entrances

As the match begins, the characters enter the screen with signature moves!

These fun entrances have been revived in Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...06_071102a.jpg
Mario appears out of a pipe. It’s pretty basic.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...06_071102b.jpg
Fox dashes out of the Arwing.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...06_071102c.jpg
The condor appears! It’s the Ice Climbers.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...06_071102d.jpg
Pit comes riding in on light from the heavens.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...06_071102e.jpg
Mr. Saturn’s tea table? Lucas appears!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...06_071102f.jpg
Could that be warp magic? It’s Ike!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...06_071102g.jpg
Snake’s optical camouflage breaks up as he lands.

There’s a three-second countdown before the match begins. And these are just a few of the fighters making their entrances.

Loose Cannon 11-02-2007 11:02 AM

are those people behind Mario from Animal Crossing?

Lock Jaw 11-02-2007 11:12 AM

Its the Animal Crossing stage.

Drakul 11-05-2007 02:05 AM

Fox’s Misfortune

The Arwing makes an emergency landing on the edge of a dense jungle.
As Diddy Kong discovers it, an evil hand reaches for him from the lake...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2nd update today is music from Fire Emblem but I can't post it here. It has lyrics in latin which translate to:

Fire Emblem, companions walk
The endless path together.

In the wavering shadow of spite,
Our home is faced by the oncoming spear,
Engulfed in flames.

I keep that unforgettable day in my heart
And now rise up together with my companions.

Fire Emblem, our bond shall be never broken.

We hold fast to protect tomorrow
And the one who awaits our return.

Fire Emblem, light gathers on the flag we unfurl.

Fire Emblem, we gaze upon the multitude of stars,
Gripping our blades.

If we do not bring light to the darkness in these lands,
The shooting stars will soar over a wasteland.

Fire Emblem, on whom does the morning sun shine
As she climbs over the edge of battle?

FourFifty 11-05-2007 12:19 PM

I just read this entire thread and even though the game isn't out quite yet I'm going to pick up a Wii next week JUST FOR THIS FUCKING GAME!!!!!

And paper mario....

Drakul 11-05-2007 01:26 PM

Paper mario is pretty good. Mario Galaxy is out soon so you could pick that up to.

Vietnamese Crippler 11-05-2007 03:52 PM

I say you just get Galaxy, it'll probably keep you busy for awhile :o

Items from Previous Installments

A number of items from past Smash games appear in this one as well. But, of course, there are naturally many people who have never played any of those games. And even if you have, I still think I ought to explain these.

It’s not all of them, but I would like to introduce a few.

Beam Sword

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106a.jpg
It’s a blade of light – the Beam Sword.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106b.jpg
This time it gets REALLY long!

Fire Flower

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106c.jpg
Hold down the button to release a fire burst!

Freezie

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106d.jpg
Throw it at someone to freeze them.

Home-Run Bat

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106e.jpg
Do a side-smash to hit a home run!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106f.jpg
This time, everyone has a different stance.

Party Ball

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106g.jpg
Items pour out from inside.

Super Mushroom

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106h.jpg
When you get the mushroom...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071106i.jpg
...you become gigantic!

These are just some of the items that intensify the slapstick nature of this game. You must master them all!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wonder what the clock thing in the 7th screenshot is.

Drakul 11-07-2007 02:05 AM

Gray Fox

If Snake is going to be joining the brawl, then it should be OK to have someone else from the Metal Gear world join as an Assist Trophy, right?

Frank Jaeger, the Gray Fox, appears!

He approaches stealthily with lithe jumps, coming right in then slicing repeatedly. Awww! It makes you want to use him as a playable character.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...11_071107c.jpg
He slices over and over with his back-handed grip.

By the way, he reflects projectiles.

Gray Fox, who fought in a grand battle to the death with Metal Gear REX... To think that he would reappear on Wii, and alongside Mario and Sonic at that!

You never know what might happen in this world.

Drakul 11-07-2007 02:09 AM

Grab and Throw

Surely you’ve learned how to shield to protect yourself. Have you learned that yet? Good. You’ve learned.

Then next up is grabbing. And throwing!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...08_071107a.jpg
Press the attack button while shielding...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...08_071107b.jpg
And grab at your opponent!

If you press the attack button while shielding, you’ll grab. Give it a try next time you’re shielding.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...08_071107c.jpg
Block your enemy’s attack with your shield!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...08_071107d.jpg
Then just press the attack button to grab your enemy!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...08_071107e.jpg
Tilt the Control Stick in any direction you like to throw!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...08_071107f.jpg
Then pursue with combo attacks!

And so on.

Grabs are also effective against enemies that are protecting themselves with their own shields. Shield against attacks, then grab. Or dodge. If you can understand this flow, you’ll find they add a dimension that changes the simple charging attack.

At any rate, get in the habit of shielding when you’re in trouble. Then you can think about what comes next.

Lucas: Special Moves

There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users.

But Lucas’s physical combat style is quite different. By which I mean he doesn’t have the same standard moves.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108a.jpg
His strong up attack is a mentally-powered flip kick.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108b.jpg
The finish of his back air attack is a meteor smash.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108d.jpg
Oh! Is he grabbing the edge with his rope snake?!

Side Special Move: PK Fire

This is also quite different from Ness’s.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108e.jpg
It flies perfectly sideways, even in the air.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108f.jpg
The flame pillar explodes!

Standard Special Move: PK Freeze

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108g.jpg
If you charge it up and control it...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108h.jpg
...you can freeze your opponents!

And even more threatening is his PK Thunder. For those of you unfamiliar with the last game, or the one before that, remember this well.

Up Special Move: PK Thunder

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108i.jpg
You guide the PK Thunder with the Control Stick...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108j.jpg
...and hit yourself with it to launch!

Doing this helps you recover.

The angle you launch at depends upon the position at which the PK Thunder hits you. This launch also makes for a rather powerful attack, so I think it’s fine to even try it unexpectedly.

Down Special Move: PSI Magnet

This move absorbs the energy of projectile and other attacks and uses it to recover Lucas’s damage. It has a wide range of effectiveness, so give it a try when you get the chance.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...as_071108k.jpg
If an enemy uses a projectile, that’s your chance.

Kalyx triaD 11-08-2007 02:12 AM

I suppose Sonic will bring some guys with him, too?

Savio 11-08-2007 11:02 AM

yeah I susspose Ness is out

Loose Cannon 11-08-2007 11:05 AM

NOOOOO Ness. are you kidding? fuck

Drakul 11-08-2007 12:13 PM

Maybe it's been taken out of context. Maybe "Until now" includes Brawl.

I'm not fussed if Ness is cut but what would be worse? Ness being out completely or Ness being downgraded to an Assist Trophy?

Shadow 11-09-2007 12:00 AM

Or Ness and this guy playing like Mario and Luigi. Luigi basically has all of Mario's moves just his own twist on 'em.

So I'm not too worried.

Drakul 11-09-2007 02:09 AM

Norfair

Norfair is the location in Metroid where the enemy boss Ridley was. There was a lot of lava, and it seemed like a rather hot area.

As you can imagine, the lava level will indeed rise and cover the platforms. It’s dangerous to touch it.

That dangerous-to-the-touch lava comes flowing from a number of places, so be careful.

The tension rises. Yes.

When the lava wave appears, a single safe area will also appear. If you can get in, you’ll be OK...but surely there will be quite a battle for that spot. Yet another bit of back and forth.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/stage...17_071109d.jpg
"Let me in!" "I’m not letting YOU in!"

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/stage...17_071109e.jpg
It even has hatches that close in emergencies. Ahh.

You can just about dodge the massive lava wave with a great jump, but it’s a little difficult. Besides, you KNOW you want to win the battle for that safe area.

Lux 11-09-2007 08:08 AM

Ike: Final Smash

Great Aether

It’s Ike’s Final Smash, Great Aether. As the name suggests, it’s a more powerful version of Aether.

That feels gooood... It’s exciting and exhilarating.

But, you do have to make sure you hit with the Final Smash. Its range of impact is pretty large, so you just have to get the right timing.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ke_071112h.jpg
Maybe you could add to their woes. Could this be a plan?

Loose Cannon 11-12-2007 09:33 AM

who is Ike? I have not seen him in this thread yet.

btw, thanks to Drakul for doing all these updates. :y:

Drakul 11-12-2007 09:38 AM

Ike is from Fire Emblem and his introduction update is on page 4 of the thread.

It's no problem with the updates, like I said, I'm reading them anyway and not much happens at 7am (thats when I get the update), so I may as well put them up here.

Funky Fly 11-13-2007 01:06 AM

He's from Fire Emblem: Path Of Radiance on the Gamecube, to be specific.

Three Different Taunts

If you want to show your opponent a little flair, you can do moves unrelated to battle – it’s called taunting. You do it with the +Control Pad, except when using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

This time, you can do one of three different taunts, depending on the direction you press the +Control Pad!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113a.jpg
Up taunt: He twirls his sword twice and sheaths it.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113b.jpg
Side taunt: Oh. A fairy.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113c.jpg
Down taunt: Is this his mysterious pose from the Nintendo 64 version?!

There are a variety of patterns for you to enjoy.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113d.jpg
He takes off his hat and spins around whimsically.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113e.jpg
She curls herself in some sort of new stretch.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113f.jpg
He gives a shout on the spot.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113g.jpg
He gives a three-fingered "W" salute.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113h.jpg
He thrusts his sword in the ground and crosses his arms.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113i.jpg
He spins his feet and says "Too slow..."

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113j.jpg
...

With Wii Remote + Nunchuk control, taunts are handled with the 1 Button (up taunt), the 2 Button (down taunt) and the 1 and 2 Buttons simultaneously (side taunt).

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...07_071113k.jpg
Oh, and a short message can be assigned to each taunt direction.

Handicap

Be kind to beginners! If all you do in brawls is beat up people who don’t know left from right, they’ll never understand the rules of the game, right?

So until now, I’ve always made sure to include handicaps in each game in the series.

But, I began to think that there isn’t much thrill in just making yourself weaker, so I changed the system.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...12_071114a.jpg
First, find the Handicap option on the Rules screen.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...12_071114b.jpg
Then you’ll see something new.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...12_071114c.jpg
Click-click-click! Ratchet up the handicap.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...12_071114d.jpg
You start with your initial damage meter boosted!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...12_071114e.jpg
Even when you reappear.

The strength of each character doesn’t change, so then you can show your skills to your opponent!

Also, you can use this not only for handicapping, but also for starting all players at the same damage – it’ll give you matches with a slightly different feel.

Now, I’ve also kept the auto-handicap feature. This gradually increases the starting damage for the winner of the match.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...12_071114f.jpg
Choose the Auto setting from the same option.

Meta Knight: Special Moves

I introduced some of Meta Knight’s special moves in a previous post entitled "Four Special Move Types".

But, since he has so many peculiar moves, I wanted to explain them again.

Standard Special Move: Mach Tornado
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115a.jpg
Suck them up!

Your inertia carries you left and right. Tap the button to rise up off the ground a bit.

Side Special Move: Drill Rush
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115b.jpg
Rush!!!

You spin like a drill, ploughing into people. You can also change your direction slightly.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115c.jpg
Push your enemies up into the air!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115d.jpg
Of course, you can push them down, too.

Up Special Move: Shuttle Loop
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115e.jpg
Rise up while launching your sword up...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115f.jpg
You can also flutter through the air and glide.

This is a move you use to glide. It’s kind of like Kirby’s wing ability.

Down Special Move: Dimensional Cape
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115g.jpg
That familiar move from the trailer.

He wraps himself in his cape, disappears, and reappears with this move.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115h.jpg
Tilt the stick to move the position where he’ll reappear!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...ht_071115i.jpg
If you’re pressing the attack button, you’ll unleash a surprise attack as you reappear!

Use the Dimensional Cape as a precursor to an attack. If you just can’t get the opportunity, then forget about attacking.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2nd update today is the music "Kirby: Meta Knight’s Revenge". It's for the Halberd stage. The update explains it:

I was just thinking how it’s been more than ten years since I made this game...

It was in Kirby Super Star that Meta Knight rode out on the Battleship Halberd to try and conquer Dream Land. This is a jazz arrangement of the music from back then.
WELL? How do you like it?!

After going with the "serious touch" of the Halberd for the Kirby stage, I’m now thinking that maybe this overly peppy song is a little incongruous...

Shadow 11-16-2007 12:32 AM

I am so gonna be playing Meta Knight. Soooooo playing Meta Knight.

Drakul 11-16-2007 02:02 AM

Spectator

Even among Smash players, there are some people who just aren’t that good at action games. With that in mind, I’ve been thinking about how I can convey the fun of Smash to newcomers. I’ve been thinking about this type of thing since long before I joined this industry.

So, for this game, I’ve prepared a new kind of mode. It’s called Spectator, and you’ll find it in the With Anyone menu. If I had to describe it in a word, it would be "watching"!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...02_071116a.jpg
You can enjoy watching matches between other people!

This mode is a service where Nintendo uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to send the data for games played between other people to every Smash household.

Match selection is handled automatically, and absolutely no names of any players can be seen. It feels like there’s a continuous broadcast of matches on your television! Even if you don’t play, you can enjoy the battles of other characters!

And at the beginning of each match, you can even bet coins on the character you think will win.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...02_071116b.jpg
I’ll bet some coins. I’ve got a winner!

Glean what hints you can from the stages and combatants and try to deduce the winner.

Of course, if your pick wins, your coin count will increase! And the more players there are in a match, the higher the payout. There may even be extra prizes.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...02_071116c.jpg
Even if you lose, you can get some stickers.

Just to make sure there’s no mistaking that just watching a match can be fun, we’ll be passing out stickers left and right.

For those of you who want to co-operate with our data collection for Spectator mode, set Allow Spectators to Yes in your Wi-Fi Options. This will result in your play data occasionally being sent to Nintendo.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...02_071116d.jpg
This setting is in your Wi-Fi Options.

The content that is broadcast is the same for everyone in the same country (if your connection timing is the same), so it should be fun to have people in different environments watch and cheer the same match.

To be shocked by impressive play, or to bust a gut laughing at some accident will be quite fun! Perhaps you can use it as reference for your own matches.

Hopefully this mode is something that even people who aren’t good at games can enjoy.

Vietnamese Crippler 11-16-2007 03:17 AM

Well, interesting function that I definitely did not see coming

Loose Cannon 11-16-2007 08:02 AM

lol, this game even has gambling now. haha, i love it

Shadow 11-16-2007 02:08 PM

Well this game has everything now.

Kalyx triaD 11-16-2007 05:55 PM

I thought the mode was 'meh' until the betting portion. That should be in more spectator modes in other games.

Lock Jaw 11-16-2007 10:29 PM

Yeah, but how does betting work when the names of the players are hidden from you? Its pretty much just blind guessing then. Unless you can place bets mid-match or something.

Vietnamese Crippler 11-16-2007 11:48 PM

You're just betting on who you think will win. What does it matter if you see the name or not :-\

Lock Jaw 11-17-2007 12:01 AM

Because then people could develop "reps" and you'd kinda know who is the best bet. Otherwise they're all just blank random faces and you're just betting on "Link" or "Mario" hoping that the player is good.

Loose Cannon 11-17-2007 10:44 PM

that's the whole point of it. you don't know. it's blind betting.

Lock Jaw 11-18-2007 01:36 AM

Yeah. My point was that I think it would be better if it wasn't blind betting.

Drakul 11-19-2007 02:12 AM

Ice Climbers: Final Smash

Iceberg

The Ice Climbers’ Final Smash is Iceberg!

Calling it Iceberg is a bit problematic. I mean, it’s not like...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...rs_071119a.jpg
...Ahh! I guess Iceberg IS rather appropriate!

When you get the Smash Ball and do your move...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...rs_071119b.jpg
...the duo do a high-five, and...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...rs_071119c.jpg
CRRRRRSSSSSSHHHHH!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...rs_071119d.jpg
It even happens in the big city, just like this...

Ice doesn’t just make the available ledges smaller and more slippery, but it also damages your opponents!

But, of course, the Ice Climbers can handle it no problem. They look as cool and refreshed as ever.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/chara...rs_071119e.jpg
Sometimes, you can even freeze opponents.
Now that’s just cold!

Savio 11-20-2007 01:02 PM

If you brawl for a long time, there is one thing you will definitely start to think: "What can I do that will help me be able to win?"
For that, I’ve implemented a training mode to help you get to know the characters.
At first glance, nothing about this screen seems unusual.
Bothersome displays are hidden at first. The settings screen appears when you pause the game.
Oh! There it is!
You can produce lots of items.
You can put in three computer opponents, and jack their damage meters way up.
And you can see how much damage different combos do.
You can even put it in slow motion.
(But...you can’t tell that from a screen shot.)
You need to know the moves, whether you’re trying to hit with them or avoid them—this is especially true of Final Smashes.
This mode is particularly helpful with that.

Savio 11-20-2007 01:03 PM

It does seem that they occasionally fail to explode. You might throw it, only to watch it not detonate. In those cases, you’ll want to be careful, because you never know when it might go off.
Speaking of duds, certain Pokémon that explode also sometimes fail to detonate.
Pssssssst.

Take the following moves, for example.
Link’s Standard Special Move: The Hero’s Bow
Pikachu’s Side Special Move: Skull Bash
These moves can be charged up by holding down the special-move button, increasing both speed and power. If you press the button down firmly and then release, you’ll unleash the move at full strength! When you first try out a character you aren’t familiar with, this should be the first thing you try.
But, there are also some moves that continue charging even after you release the button... Huh???
DK’s Standard Special Move: Giant Punch
Samus’s Standard Special Move: Charge Shot
...among others.
For these moves, when you press the special-move button again, it unleashes the move at the power level you charged it to.
Also, with these moves, you can move around while charged by charging the move to the maximum limit or by pressing the shield button to cancel the charge.
Look! Smoke shoots out from his head when he’s reached maximum charge!
Do your best to build up the maximum charge, then unleash it at just the right moment! These are superimportant techniques for characters like DK and Samus. Don’t forget them.

My brother killed the PC with some virus or other so I couldn't post the updates. The PC still isn't working right so I don't know when I'll be posting them again. It doesn't seem like I missed much anyway.

I was surprised about the Sin & Punishment guy being in at all even if it is an AT.

Events

It’s the return of Events! This is a single-player mode in which you battle through predetermined situations.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...16_071129a.jpg
This is the Events selection screen.

Oh! The pictures make it easy to understand.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...16_071129b.jpg
And it has different difficulty settings!

For these, a harder setting is probably more exciting, but you can go ahead and set it however you like.

For example, you’ll find these kinds of situations:

Two Trouble Kings
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...16_071129c.jpg
Character: Mario
Bowser and King Dedede battle as a team!
And Mario stands alone against them.

Pink Ball Repulsion
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...16_071129d.jpg
Character: Meta Knight
Kirby must not be allowed on the Battleship Halberd!
Blast Kirby off before the platform lands on the Halberd!

Cleaning House in Skyworld
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...16_071129e.jpg
Character: Pit
Destroy all the terrain in Skyworld!
Wario both gets in the way and helps out?

Sleeping in the Eggs
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...16_071129f.jpg
Character: Yoshi
Using Yoshi’s Egg Lay standard special move,
put both enemies inside eggs simultaneously!

Dark Link Duel
http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...16_071129g.jpg
Character: Link
It’s a fated battle with your own shadow.
This is a stamina-based match.

High scores are recorded for each challenge at each difficulty level. You don’t just clear these challenges – competing for time will magnify the fun.

Enjoy Smash’s chance meetings between a variety of characters!

Savio 11-29-2007 01:27 PM

only ten events?

Drakul 11-29-2007 01:56 PM

Probably at first until you do a few and unlock more, like in Melee.

I just got the new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine and had a quick flick through. In their preview of Brawl, they said it'll be out in the UK in Spring 2008. I think they could be right considering they said it was going to be on-line a month before the Dojo updates confirmed it.

DAMN iNATOR 11-29-2007 02:18 PM

Last I heard it was supposed to be out Feb. '08 in the U.S., But IGN just has “TBA 2008” under the Europe release date, so take that for what you will.

Drakul 11-30-2007 07:27 AM

Melee Stages

First, take a look...

This is the Temple stage from the last instalment, Super Smash Bros. Melee.

I think that based on my updates so far, you probably understand that we’ve created plenty of stages.

But we wanted to do more, so we’ve brought back a number of stages that appeared in the last game.

We’ve tried to create an exact replica, but there may be a few areas that differ from the last game. I hope you understand.

In general, the Melee stages have the same background music as in the last game, but we’ve also prepared some tracks like this.

"Zelda II: Adventure of Link: Great Temple/Temple" (0:54)
(its at the bottom of the page - Drakul)

Well, ONM is UK based and "official" so I'll go with them. It's the closest we have to a date right now anyway.

Loose Cannon 11-30-2007 09:05 AM

sweet I must of played Temple about 80% more then the other stages

Funky Fly 11-30-2007 04:20 PM

Sexy. The Temple stage is a flavourite at my house. Good to see it return.

Drakul 11-30-2007 10:04 PM

With Friodays update being "Melee Stages" and not "Past Stages" I'm guessing we'll get N64 stages again. Hopefully Hyrule Castle from the origonal.

Funky Fly 12-01-2007 01:17 AM

Yeah, I'd like to see the return of Hyrule and the Pokemon stage from the original Smash Bros.

Shadow 12-01-2007 01:34 AM

Indeed Funky. I enjoyed the Pokemon stage from original Smash Bros just because it was fun pinning someone against the door and having Venisaur pop out and send that guy flying

I like that idea. It wouldn't be hard to have "reps" and maybe the better rep the player has, the less you win for betting on them winning.

Another thing came to me a minute ago. I think King K.Rool might be in Brawl. In one of the Sub Space videos, Mario gets hit by a huge cannon ball, just like the ones K. Rool used. I know thats not evidence in itself but remember Bowsers Koopa Troopas stole DKs Bananas in another video.
So DK has to deal with Marios nemesis (Bowser) and Mario has to deal with DKs nemesis (K. Rool).

So I think he'll be in, maybe as just a boss, but he'll be in. What do you think?

Friend List

The Wii console includes a function called Wii Friends, but you will register a separate list of Smash friends.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...03_071203a.jpg
That’s your Friend Code in the top-right.

Please exchange these numbers with your friends. Write a note, do it over the phone, or send it by e-mail – just share your numbers with each other.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...03_071203b.jpg
Then input your friend’s Friend Code.

Once you’ve both input your codes, it’ll look something like this.

You can enter your own icon and comments.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...03_071203d.jpg
This is where you enter your short taunt messages.

The preparation ends there. After this, you won’t have to do it every time.

So, let’s play a game! In that case, someone has to enter someone else’s game.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...03_071203e.jpg
You can see if they’re online or hosting a match.

If you want to play together, just select that person’s name and choose OK!

Yep. Simple.

Simple is best.

By the way, the circle at the top-right of your Friend Roster approximates the connection quality of your last connection. The closer it is to blue, the smoother you’ll be able to play.

It's a safe bet he's in though. He's been in since the original and the Samurai Goroh AT has the Falcon logo next to it.

Don't know why he hasn't been announced though. Unless he's unlockable again and they wont mention who the unlockables are on the site but that only works if everyone announced so far is the starting roster and I doubt you would start with all of them.

Returning Pokémon

If you haven’t played the last game or the one before that, you may be left wondering something like, "Why isn’t this Pokémon or that Pokémon in the game?" All I’ve been introducing are the ones new to this game.

So now I’d like to introduce several of the Pokémon that appeared in past instalments that will be appearing again in Brawl.

The likelihood of mysterious Pokémon appearing is quite low. Mew and Celebi are especially rare, but they may leave you some kind of present.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/items...07_071204k.jpg
Mew dropped a CD. Accept it with gratitude!

Vietnamese Crippler 12-04-2007 02:40 AM

Holy crap, I have never, EVER seen Celebi...

Extreme Angle 12-04-2007 02:56 AM

I saw all of them excep mew, whats that cd do?

Vietnamese Crippler 12-04-2007 02:59 AM

I've seen Mew twice I think.

And the CD unlocks new music for stages.

Drakul 12-04-2007 03:00 AM

Mew was pretty common for me in Melee. Can't recall the Celebi thing though.

Funky Fly 12-04-2007 03:15 AM

I have seen Mew 4567548765 times. Only seen Celebi like 5 times maybe.

But then Smash Bros Melee is by far the most played game when my brothers and I are together. No other game has ever taken as many hours of my life as this one.

MTH15 12-04-2007 07:32 AM

Lol. I havn't seen Celebi a lot, Ho oH as well

Loose Cannon 12-04-2007 08:06 AM

yea, you must of been blind or played the game three times if you've never seen Mew

MTH15 12-04-2007 11:59 PM

Lol. Im wasting my money on a Wii just so that I can buy this game....Im using the original Gamecube controller though.

The Battle for the Smash Ball

A Smash Ball appears! The tension rises. Since it gives you an attack as powerful as the name Final Smash implies, everyone will battle frantically to get it.

You can’t get the Smash Ball by simply touching it. You have to bash it and smash it many times until the player who breaks the Smash Ball gets it.

The Smash Ball’s endurance diminishes with each hit and with time.

Once a character gets it and begins glowing on standby, he or she just does a standard special move to unleash the Final Smash. Just press the B Button without any directional input.

It depends on the particular Final Smash, but simply pressing the button at a random time or place might not work to your advantage.

So pick a position that your move will strike from. Or create conditions under which you will definitely hit your foes. Do all of this while glowing on standby.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...09_071205e.jpg
Now just jump up and fire off that Final Smash!

However, if the character on standby gets hit, he or she may fumble the Smash Ball!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...09_071205f.jpg
Even if someone gets it,
attack is often the best form of defence!

Do you use it as soon as you get it? Or save it for later? Do you run from an enemy who got it? Or do you chase him? You’ll need some instantaneous situational decision-making!

And then there’s an element known as the Pity Final Smash. Once a significant point advantage is reached, the losing player is given a bonus chance. When you get this, you will reappear after a KO in Final Smash standby mode.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/howto...09_071205g.jpg
It’s OK to give this out, isn’t it?

Now, if you don’t want to use Final Smashes whatsoever, you can restrict the appearance of this item in the Item Switch. If you just turn Smash Balls off, you’ll be set.

The game-changing Final Smash. Using it is fun. Running from it is fun, too.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The other update today was music from a game called X which only came out in Japan.

MTH15 12-05-2007 07:30 AM

Final Smash should make it interesing

King Dedede: Final Smash

Waddle Dee Army

King Dedede’s Final Smash is a mountain of Waddle Dees called the Waddle Dee Army!

Hmm. I guess it’s in his character to leave the work to someone else.

You can’t tell from a picture, but the speed of these Waddle Dees is quite a bit faster than the ones he normally calls. You’ll need to watch out to make sure you don’t suddenly get swept off the screen.

But the most dangerous thing of all is that the spike-headed Gordos are also mixed into the crowd.

Shadow 12-06-2007 11:59 PM

...daaaaamn.

Extreme Angle 12-07-2007 12:19 AM

With Anyone/Basic Brawl

Join a quick and simple brawl against someone, somewhere! If you’re not going to be playing with a friend, this is the mode you’ll tend to use.

This time, we’ll take a look at how it flows.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207a.jpg
The Wii console is trying to connect in earnest! And it succeeds!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207c.jpg
You could also choose Team Battle,
but we’ll choose Basic Brawl here.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207d.jpg
You go straight to the character selection screen.

Huh? We’re already at character selection? That’s right. You don’t make any rooms.

At this point, you’re already requesting a match. If you connect to someone, you’ll see their status at the bottom of the screen.

Character selection is limited to 45 seconds. If time runs out, your character will be chosen for you at random, so make your choices quickly so as not to make others wait.

You can cast one vote for the stage you want to play. A stage is chosen by lottery from among those voted on by the players.

Also, the items that are turned off in the item switch are also determined by lottery.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207f.jpg
Practise on Sandbag while you wait...

Then just wait until you get everyone together.

Isn’t that simple? You don’t have to bother with any settings. You just choose characters and stages.

Names won’t be shown and messages won’t be sent. Neither your identity nor your opponents’ will be known, so you can play without any worries.

By the way, have you ever had an experience where your opponent was disconnected and the match never came to fruition? Like when you started with four players, but ended up with only one?

I don’t like that feeling, so I’ve tried to counter it.

If you get cut off, your character will get taken over by the CPU without your opponents even knowing – it pinch hits for you!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_uk/gamem...04_071207h.jpg
Hold on! You can’t tell it’s a CPU!

That’s epic! Can we really do this? Wouldn’t you say it’s way better than having all your opponents drop out?

However, we won’t be swapping in CPU characters when you’re playing With Friends. Sorry about that.

And there is one more important thing...

When you have a battle mode that runs online like Basic Brawl, the problem of what to do with hidden characters arises. If one of your opponents chooses a character you haven’t unlocked yet, it will be spoiled for you immediately.

But even without this mode, given the proliferation of the Internet these days, the existence of hidden characters is going to get exposed anyway.

So, this time I’m moving in the direction of not being too hung up on hidden characters.

You can earn most characters by playing through Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. For those of you who look forward to those encounters, I recommend you clear this mode before playing Basic Brawl.

And as the case has always been, I’ve made it so you can play the characters you unlock in battles.
