Joey Slugs 05-05-2006 11:47 AM

fuck the AL East. sick of hearing about this shit.

easily the most overrated division in baseball. "oh, our 5th pitcher is better than your 5th pitcher". is that all you guys can think of? serious. Blanton and Chacin BOTH suck. last time i checked.... the reigning AL champs were still in the central.

and as for the "better" pitcher arguement...

Jose Contreras
5-0, 1.41 ERA, 21 K, 0.87 WHIP

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-05-2006 12:00 PM

White Sox are the best team in baseball right now but why am I gonna talk about them? I don't live in Chicago

People talk about the teams they care about, so if more people care about teams in the AL East then so be it. I don't see how it is the most overrated divison in baseball though, it is a pretty tough division even though the best team resides in the central.

FakeLaser 05-05-2006 12:16 PM

I bet if you put the Baltimore Orioles in the NL they'd have a shot at the playoffs. They'll probably finish last in the AL East.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-05-2006 01:13 PM

Not to mention the number of wildcard births coming out of the AL East recently

Debatable which is the best, but I dunno how a division with the Yankees, Red Sox and the BlueJays can be seen as overrated.

lol when will the sox stop trotting out Rudy Seanez? I think he's allowed a homerun every game he's pitched.

I highly doubt their starting pitching would hold up as well in the AL East.

Not saying the Mets aren't a good team or anything. The Mets and the Cards are the only teams that would be strong enough to compete for a playoff spot in the American League.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-05-2006 06:36 PM

While I understand that the same teams getting continued coverage gets a little old, its kinda funny to complain about it. They are putting out what people watch. If they got good ratings for Indians or A's games I am sure those would be on TV a lot more.

True.

You only have to look back to 99-00 and the Indians were on ESPN all the time. As soon as Manny, Robbie and Omar left, so did casual viewers and so, ESPN!

BCWWF 05-06-2006 02:03 PM

See I don't mind the Yankees/Red Sox getting coverage. I mean people want to see the Yankees because most fans know every player on their team. The thing that pisses me off is when they sensationalize little things that happen with either the Yankees or the Red Sox. Like last year, there was a random series in the middle of the season, but the Sports Center before the game had like five stories about it, including one all about the bloody sock. It wasn't the first time they played, it wasn't a particularly big series, but they just blew it way out of proportion. AWFUL.

ct2k 05-06-2006 02:18 PM

I find over here the coverage over-does it on things that are relatively unimportant, Ie whenever there's a Cubs/WSox or Yankees/Mets interleague game.

The Miz 05-06-2006 05:30 PM

The one I hate is Cubs/Cardinals. Nothing exciting ever happens in that series and ESPN always hypes it up as ANOTHER CUBS/CARDINALS SHOWDOWN

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-07-2006 01:27 AM

the Red Sox Yankees rivaliary never gets old to me (obviously) Maybe I am little biased here but they always seem to put on the best games. Atleast "rivarly" wise. I laughed though when I heard there was going to be a one hour pregame thing on ESPN before last Monday's game though, first thing I thought about was being complaining about the over-coverage.

You know what I am sick of though? That sports gambling shit, If I hear that Charles Barkley has lost 10 million dollars betting I think I am going to punch a baby.

ct2k 05-07-2006 08:39 AM

I never get bored of Yankees/Red Sox either, again probably i'm biased, but the tension always produces fireworks even when the game itself is crappy, and usually its not.

And yeah, Cubs/Cards was only a rivalry when McGwire and Sammy were both roiding and hitting 65 dingers a year. I guess because they're both midwest cities and national league they're automatically rivals :-\ Saying that you don't get two dozen Brewers/Cubs games a year with claims of it being the greatest rivalry ever.

BCWWF 05-07-2006 01:16 PM

If I was living in Boston or New York, and the two teams were both always playoff caliber, there is no reason no to be excited about it. Then you put the No. 1 and No. 4 (i think) media market into the mix and its on all the time and the rest of the world can sometimes get bored of it.

Gertner 05-07-2006 06:37 PM

King Gustav 5-1 baby!

Evil Vito 05-07-2006 08:54 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Angel Hernandez should be kicked out of baseball.

---

With runners on first and third and one out, Smoltz hit a tapper in front of the plate against Jose Lima (0-1). Lo Duca fielded the ball with his right hand and lunged back in an attempt to tag Atlanta's Brian McCann. Plate umpire Angel Hernandez called McCann safe, and Lo Duca slammed the ball to the infield grass while arguing.

"I spiked it pretty good, probably better than Ickey Woods, but I didn't do the Ickey Shuffle," Lo Duca said.

Hernandez immediately ejected Lo Duca. Cox got tossed for arguing after Smoltz wasn't allowed to take second.

After the game, both Lima and Lo Duca said that Hernandez told them that he was calling pitches farther off the plate strikes for Smoltz, but not for Lima.

"When the umpire said 'I'm going to give you a couple of inches off the plate, but I'm not going to give you 4-5 inches because you're not John Smoltz,' I'm trying to protect my pitcher," Lo Duca said.

---

Blatant favoritism. Don't get me wrong, I think the Mets would have lost with Lima starting anyway...but that's bullshit</font>

The Outlaw 05-07-2006 10:43 PM

LOL he didn't tag him first off, unless he got him on the heel. Lo Duca sure was pissed but from all the angles I saw he didn't tag him. Second off, is Lo Duca a moron? Just wondering because spiking a ball during a live play is pretty smart. Yeah it's blatant favoritism IF that happened, but that happens everywhere. Is Pedro Martinez going to get the same calls as John Lackey? No. It happens for and against every team. Deal with it. Thrown out of baseball? Come on.

Evil Vito 05-07-2006 11:23 PM

<font color=goldenrod>Lo Duca clearly got the tag on the heel. Don't really see why he'd get so pissed if he didn't.

And I'm aware that umps are biased all the time, but to flat out say it to the people participating in the game itself is beyond retarded. OK, banning is strict...but he definately deserves investigation and needs to be reprimanded.</font>

The Outlaw 05-07-2006 11:50 PM

Clearly? I saw three or four different angles and it wasn't clear. The announcers said they thought he tagged him, this was after the slow motion replays though. Obviously, that's why I said "Lo Duca sure was pissed", don't see why he'd throw such a little bitch fit if he didn't tag him. Then again, he threw a ball during a live play and let runners advance (should have been runners instead of the one runner to third), so he must not be too bright.

BCWWF 05-08-2006 01:10 AM

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-08-2006 11:50 AM

Yea that Lo Duca call was a pretty tough call, I am sure he tagged him otherwise he wouldn't have flipped out like that but cmon. It's not like it was obvious and the ump missed it, I saw the replay a few times and I couldn't tell whether he got tagged or not.

The Miz 05-08-2006 10:23 PM

lol I love it when the little leaguers on the Angels fail to have their bloop hits drop in all the time. That is the only way they win any game, ever

YOUR Hero 05-08-2006 10:31 PM

Adam Kennedy was trying to bunt all game long. Fucking guy's at the plate whilst Halladay is still working on a no hitter and he's trying to bunt. Some people say that's bad baseball.

YOUR Hero 05-08-2006 10:32 PM

Weaver was pitching a good game himself, until the 5th inning. He had a 4 inning no hitter going, and then the JAys lit him up for 5 runs. 2, 2 run HRs in the mix.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 05-09-2006 08:24 PM

Yankees didn't have the shift on for Ortiz because there was men on 2nd and 3rd so it figures Ortiz actaully hits to where the 3rd basemen normally plays but then A-Rod fucks it up and it leads to a 3 run inning for the Sox. Now Johnson keeps over throwing and is having all types of trouble. Fuck 'em up

Loose Cannon 05-09-2006 08:34 PM

my dad knows how to hook it up. Just a bunch of cabling you need I think.

Jodi Olson, who was to marry Puckett next month, told the Star Tribune of his wishes in a phone interview Monday.
Attorneys representing Puckett's children have filed a petition in Maricopa County, Ariz., where he lived at the time of his death, asking that his ashes be given to his children, Catherine and Kirby Jr. Puckett's former wife, Tonya, is listed as the petitioner in the court papers.

The petition was filed Monday after an agreement couldn't be reached over who should get the ashes, which have been kept by a Twin Cities funeral home.
Puckett, 45, died at an Arizona hospital March 6 after suffering a stroke a day earlier at his home in Scottsdale. His body was cremated after March 12 services in Wayzata and at the Metrodome.
In his 2003 will, Puckett named his children, who live in the Twin Cities with their mother, as his primary beneficiaries. But he didn't leave written instructions on what should be done with his ashes.
Puckett's children have said that they want the ashes. Five of his siblings have signed court papers saying they want the children to have them.
Olson said she has talked with the executor of Puckett's estate about dividing the ashes with Puckett's children.
"The children and his siblings do not want the ashes divided," said Bridget Logstrom, the attorney representing the children.
Olson said she is "devastated" that the issue has become so public.
She said that she "just assumed the ashes would be left with me as Kirby was going to be my husband in just 90 days." The couple, who had lived together in Arizona since November 2004, planned to marry June 24. They became engaged in October 2005. She said that in addition to spreading some of his ashes over an inner-city baseball field, she also wanted "a small bit" to wear in a locket "so I could feel Kirby close to my heart."

well he should come around. I still have faith in him too. but's it's getting painful.

MVP 05-10-2006 12:03 AM

Pretty good outing by Beckett tonight even though I was scared he was gonna have another shitty game after giving up the HR to Giambi in the first. Usually when Beckett has a bad game he gives up runs real early.

Gertner 05-10-2006 12:06 AM

towers is really strugling with his location and when it's off he's brutal

FakeLaser 05-10-2006 12:45 AM

God damn it RJ.

The Icon of Elisim 05-10-2006 01:30 AM

I dunno, Towers location looked pretty good for the first three innings. I dunno why Gibbons pulled him after 4, he had a rough spot and didn't get a chance to go past it.

I wouldn't be shocked if Towers gets 1 or 2 more starts before they send him to the pen (maybe it would help if they make Zaun his perminent catcher so that he gets someone to work with all week). If thats the case hopefully they give his spot to Pete Walker and not Scott Downs

The Miz 05-10-2006 09:20 AM

They shoud just stick with him until Burnett gets back and then give his spot to Janssen. His location wasn't bad, he's just occasionally throwing meatballs and theyre getting hammered. The pitches to Crosby and Melhuse were right down the middle. To be fair, he's had to face the Red Sox 3 times and the Yankees twice I think. If his ERA was over 10 and he'd been facing the DRays and Mariners that'd be a bigger problem.

Gertner 05-10-2006 10:22 AM

yeah but the jays are supposed to contend this year and we can't have our pitchers suck ass against the top teams

The Miz 05-10-2006 03:02 PM

Well they'll go with a 4 man in the playoffs anyway so that doesn't really matter. As long as he beats the teams he should he'll be fine.
