Great. Grisham took over.

NeanderCarl 05-01-2006 10:53 PM

If WWE is smart in pushing a WWE vs ECW feud, it could be the massive angle that WWF vs WCW was SUPPOSED to be.

Despite the company being a huge money-hole with only moderate success at best, WWE has done a great job of sugar-coating the memory of ECW to the point where there is more fan interest in it now than there EVER was when it was in operation.

This could be the BIG angle that revives wrestling... it echoes of Austin vs McMahon. The anti-establishment, rebel takes on the big corporate success. Austin/McMahon.... ECW/WWE.... same thing. Same box, new tricks.

Jaton 05-01-2006 10:53 PM

With Styles shooting hardcore, and Kenny getting a WWE title shot, someone please tell me why Alienoid has been hired as a WWE writer?

Xero 05-01-2006 10:54 PM

Have Van Dam attack Cena here for Styles, that would be the perfect set up.

Azriel 05-01-2006 10:54 PM

That promo was just awesomeness, but why the turn on the fans at the end?

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 10:55 PM

I guess using Kenny is a way for Cena to get cheered.

SuperSlim 05-01-2006 10:55 PM

Styles was unbelievable tonight... and now that it's main event time I'm here to watch Triple H do somethin

Astley316 05-01-2006 10:55 PM

this will end ina no contest, triple h will get bored and take everyone out with a sledgehammer

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 10:56 PM

This could be that jolt for WWE right now. Last year's feud with WWE and ECW was good. But this could be the extra to make it that much better.

Makes sense. Joey hates sports entertainment. The crowd are sports entertainment fans (guilty by association by purchasing tickets to WWE Raw).

SuperSlim 05-01-2006 10:57 PM

so far so good, Trips = best ref ever

ClockShot 05-01-2006 10:57 PM

Ha. Trips is just chillin' in the corner.

NeanderCarl 05-01-2006 10:58 PM

Re: this match.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict a schmozz/no contest.

Could see HBK/Edge/Foley all getting involved in this.

Holy shit, LOL!

RawRocks 05-01-2006 10:58 PM

Triple H couldnt give two shits about this match no matter who is the champ.

Blitz 05-01-2006 10:58 PM

LOL at Trips.

Hanso Amore 05-01-2006 10:59 PM

I agree with the smarks vs marks comment.

The WWE has ackowledged the IWC/Smark community in regards to Cena.

Maybe they plan on running a ECW vs WWE angle, trying to split the fans.

I hope they have more buildup next week. Alot of time before ONS, But I hope they do a little every week, and just dont cram it all in at the PPV

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 10:59 PM

Styles just made this board skyrocket!

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 10:59 PM

LOL @ HHH taking his time.

AJHayes 05-01-2006 11:00 PM

You know, Kenny is good enough as a stand alone wrestler. We don't need the spirit squad there... The only reason they're there is to make Cena look unstoppable...

And then Kenny pushed Trips

ClockShot 05-01-2006 11:00 PM

Here we go.

Corndad 05-01-2006 11:00 PM

I'm liking this new HHH Seriously.

SuperSlim 05-01-2006 11:01 PM

yayyyy a new referee

Corndad 05-01-2006 11:01 PM

DX?????

ClockShot 05-01-2006 11:01 PM

And the plot thickens.....

Xero 05-01-2006 11:01 PM

They are seriously teasing DX here...

AJHayes 05-01-2006 11:01 PM

IN THE NAME OF CHUCK NORRIS!!!

Corndad 05-01-2006 11:01 PM

For the first hour and 1/2 sucking the last 1/2 hour has been amazing.

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

LOL!

Xero 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

Holy shit my heart almost stopped...

Skippord 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

KENNY SHOULD'VE WON IT

zdmay 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

Great moment between HHH and Shawn

SuperSlim 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

the only thing that would cap this off is HBK nailing Cena

Astley316 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

the second hour of raw has been sheer greatness, the cutting edge, styles and a pretty decent main event

Boondock Saint 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

ROFL @ HBK

Corndad 05-01-2006 11:02 PM

LOL at HBK

Blitz 05-01-2006 11:03 PM

Hot fucking crowd.

Xero 05-01-2006 11:03 PM

Michaels should have refused to count Cena and Sweet Chined him.

Corndad 05-01-2006 11:03 PM

wow... if u would have told me an hour ago how great this show would be... I would have laughed in your face.

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 11:04 PM

Damn, I actually don't want RAW to end.

SuperSlim 05-01-2006 11:04 PM

maybe the kick didn't happen but the last half hour = best time of raw that has been seen in the past couple of years

Boondock Saint 05-01-2006 11:04 PM

Damn, that DX "tease" got my heart racing.

ClockShot 05-01-2006 11:04 PM

Great half hour of Raw. Have a good night gentlemen. (And lady.)

Alienoid isn't writing for WWE, if he was, he'd be pushing Doug Basham and have him win.

NeanderCarl 05-01-2006 11:05 PM

Grisham didn't do that bad a job.

I take it Edge is now totally out of the WWE title scene again. Going backwards with another Foley match.

SuperSlim 05-01-2006 11:05 PM

hotness, that Raw was the crapper at the beginning but man alive the ending was too good for it to end

rob11 05-01-2006 11:06 PM

Well, I assume this sets up next week as HHH/Cena/HBK vs the Spirit Squad. Lets see if something happens next week.

Azriel 05-01-2006 11:06 PM

It was like watching two different shows tonight, but the real genius of it, most of the first half was really just a slow set up for the second half. Tonight was awesome, like the way RAW was in its prime. WWE better keep the momentum

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 11:07 PM

Pistons go up 3-1, so this is turning out to be a good night.

Blitz 05-01-2006 11:07 PM

Fuck yeah, the DX tease was a thing of beauty.

McLegend 05-01-2006 11:07 PM

That Joey Styles promo was Awe Inspiring

Blitz 05-01-2006 11:08 PM

OIL ELIMINATES THE WINGS, WHAT!!!!

RawRocks 05-01-2006 11:08 PM

wow.. the shittiest start to Raw finished with perhaps the greatest finish to Raw ever

AJHayes 05-01-2006 11:09 PM

I can't believe how excited I was during this show. It felt like attitude era excitement! Wow!

Xero 05-01-2006 11:09 PM

The beginning tonight was really jobber centeral. Snitsky, Eugene, and Goldust vs. SS? A women's tag match? A Kane squash (although entertaining)? That sounded like it was going to be a shit RAW.

Then Joey turned it around and the main event, even though it was more likely to bomb, was actually fair.

rob11 05-01-2006 11:09 PM

If there is something that is beyond marking out, I did it for Styles tonight.

SuperSlim 05-01-2006 11:10 PM

I kinda liked the beginning of Raw.. then again I just like seeing Victoria :D

A little late but.

WOW!

I LOVE YOU JOEY!!! One of the better promos I've seen in a long time. Haven't seen that great of a worked shoot since Heyman's old promos during the invasion.

RGWhat316 05-01-2006 11:13 PM

Damn, did Styles break the users record on here or not?

Joey Slugs 05-01-2006 11:13 PM

I am going to start going to church again.... and pray to Joey Styles.

Last time I marked out that much during a promo was for Paul E. during ONS.

I will join this Church.

All I can say..........DX DX DX! Michaels and HHH tonight were the most exciting part of the show. And Styles just capped it off. Id have to agree with SuperSlim I really though Shawn was gonna superkick Cena. Great Raw!!!

Jaded-Dragon 05-01-2006 11:22 PM

Styles made that RAW. Period.

I tried to rep you but it said I had to spread some rep around before giving it to you again. But I haven't given it to you yet, I am trying to.

Joey Slugs 05-01-2006 11:26 PM

i can't even think about the DX tease of late. after tonight...

it's E C FUCKING W

mrslackalack 05-01-2006 11:27 PM

You know on RAW Lawlers been a Cena fan so it'd be great if Cena did turn heel and have a heel Lawler talk about how great he is while Styles and the crowd is for RVD.

Blitz 05-01-2006 11:57 PM

For real tho, the DX tease was done perfectly. That stare at the top of the ramp, you're on the edge of your seat wondering if Trips is gonna turn around and go back to the ring with Michaels...

Skippord 05-02-2006 12:11 AM

Holy crap Maria's music sucks ass *Watching on tape*

Lara Emily 05-02-2006 12:18 AM

Gonna catch some of this on the TSN replay

Outsider 05-02-2006 12:29 AM

I want to watch it so bad. But there is no possible way :(

neuicon 05-02-2006 02:23 AM

Styles was great, and said what Vince is so afraid to tell the fans. I mean, they cheer, then boo. I was a TRUE ECW FAN when it was around, and now I hafta settle for a bit of WWE every now and then, and tonight, when fans booed him, I was like, "But it's so true!! We do buy into that crap!! I have been for the past few months now!!"

Thanks God for Joey Styles...

St. Jimmy 05-02-2006 04:59 AM

I left around right after Kane Vs. Conway and just watched the rest now on tape. OMFG. Styles was unbelieveable. Heyman had to have written that shoot promo. I marked out like a little bitch. The DX tease near the end was fucking brilliant. I'm rather glad they didn't have HBK lay out cena... this sets up to make Cena a great Face against a Heel DX, should they decide to do it.

Best Raw in AGES.

Brian Bee 05-02-2006 06:02 AM

Main-eventing Raw and marrying Mickie James, and Kenny can't even legally drink in the U.S.

Exactly. I wasn't even on here during RAW, so it's kinda funny to come on the next day and find everyone talking about how awful this RAW is and how they're going to change the channel, then all of a sudden at 10:00 it becomes the OMFG BEST RAW EVER!

The first hour was hit-or-miss, but it built beautifully to the amazing finish. Spirit Squad as GMs led to the Joey "shoot." HBK/Kane/Conway led to Cena/Kenny/HHH/HBK. They laid the groundwork for the first sixty minutes, and it's only once we can step back and see the show as a whole that we can really appreciate how good RAW was this week.

I hope they can keep up this ECW momentum until June, and then on into the fall. I definitely can't wait to see what happens next week.

I stopped watching partway through. About the time of the Cutting Edge. I had it on my HTS speakers, so I heard the brilliant promo. It just wasn't enough t oget me to tune back in, no matter how brilliant it was.

If this is what the Attitude Era was about, it's a wonder it made it to 4.0 ratings, let alone the records it set, because the idea is to hype people up for the second hour, not to make them turn away.

Transcript

Since WWE will inevitably take that down from YouTube, here's a transcript:

You want to apologize. Like nothing happened. Like you didn't knock me on my ass in front of millions of people worldwide. And I'm going to come down there and work with you. I'm not coming back. And now - thanks to the magic of live television - I'm going to show the whole world why, for seven years in ECW, I was the unscripted, uncensored loose cannon of commentary!

Six months ago WWE called ME! I didn't call this company because I was looking for a job. I didn't need a job. WWE called me because they had humiliated and fired (AGAIN) Jim Ross! So I get JR's spot. And from week one, week after week, I got an ongoing lecture on the differences in professional wrestling...and sports-entertainment.

I'm not allowed to say "pro wrestling." I'm not allowed to say "wrestler." I have to say "sports-entertainment." And refer to the wrestlers as..."superstars." I'm told to deliberately ignore the moves and the holds during the matches so I can tell stories. Well, ignoring the moves and the holds is DAMN INSULTING to the athletes - the WRESTLERS, not the "entertainers" - who leave their families three hundred days a year to ply their craft in that ring.

There's the best part. Because I'm not a "sports-entertainment storyteller, I get pulled from WrestleMania. And the reason I'm given is is because I don't sound like Jim Ross...who's the guy they fired in the first place! That makes sense, right? So I swallowed the bitter pill. I'm a company guy. I get bumped from WrestleMania. Then I get bumped...from BACKLASH? I'm not good enough to call BACKLASH?!?

In ECW, I called live pay-per-views on my own. Solo. No color commentators dragging me down. Wasn't done before me, hasn't been done since! But I'm not good enough to call Backlash because I'm not a "sports-entertainment storyteller."

Well, you know what? I am sick of sports-entertainment. I am sick of male cheerleaders. I am sick of boogers and bathroom humor and semen and I am sick of our Chairman. Who likes to talk about his own semen. He mocks God. He mocks GOD! And makes out with the Divas. All to feed his own insatiable ego. I am sick of sports-entertainment.

And most of all, I'm sick of you fans who actually buy into that crap! This sports-entertainment circus! I never needed this job. And I don't want this job anymore.

[He pulls the WWE logo cube off the microphone he's holding and tosses it disdainfully to the ground.]

I QUIT!

James Steele 05-03-2006 12:26 AM
