Kevin Steen is the shit. Anytime him and super dragon wrestle it's usually an insane match. Right Destor?

Mr. Monday Morning 03-02-2007 02:26 PM

They really need to do Generico/Steen vs Briscoes as a feud

What Would Kevin Do? 03-03-2007 08:22 PM

Doi and Shingo just beat the Briscoes for the belts.
Mark Vs Jay Briscoe tomorrow.
Doi and Shingo vs Strong and Richards.
Briscoes get there tag rematch at the champs in Detroit, where I will be :)

Mr. Monday Morning 03-05-2007 03:27 PM

Hey

Guess who was at both shows

Yeah that's right.

First things first, both shows are better than last year's UK shows, by a mile. They might not have the 1 or 2 outstanding matches of Unified, but they were better all-around shows by FAR.

I shall now attempt a briefish recap.

Night 1

Homicide vs Davey Richards
Decent, but not great. They had some miscommunication early on, but got it together as they went on. Homicide was waaaaaaaaaay over, and Davey got some good heat. Homicide via cop killer for the win.

Allison Danger vs Sara Del Ray
Ok, but nothing special. Unfortunately as always there are a few assholes when it comes to women's wrestling. Sara is great, and ridiculously hot in person, Allison is kinda hesitant a lot of times and very skinny. Seriously, if you've ever seen Del Ray on a SHIMMER DVD or whatever, she looks like a giant, but in reality she is perfectly proportioned. Sara wins via butterfly suplex.

Colt Cabana & BJ Whitmer vs Jimmy Rave & Jimmy Jacobs
Decent. Cabana is always way over in the UK, BJ was prett popular, Jacobs had his fair share of fans, and I don't know of anyone who doesn't hate Jimmy Rave. Couple nice spots, Jacobs wins (somewhat surprisingly) by pinning Whitmer after a Contra Code.

Matt Sydal vs Delirious - 2/3 Falls
Very good. Sydal's gradual heel turn is in full effect now, as he cheated for both his falls. He can be a great smug cocky heel if he keeps progressing. Delirious got a pop of Homicide-like proportions and was over for pretty much anything he did/said. Some nice one-liners as you'd expect. Sydal wins the first fall after distracting Sinclair and hitting a low blow before small packaging Delirious. 2nd fall has Sydal tap out to the Cobra Stretch. Final fall, Delirious was going for a move off the top, however Sydal bumped Sinclair into the ropes causing Delirious to slip, before Sydal hit the moonsault belly-to-belly (Flux Capacitor?) for the win.

Roderick Strong vs Pac - FIP title
Pac can fly really, really well. Unfortunately he might as well be a robot, as he has next to no personality. Strong had his fair share of fans but got some boos as well, so I think the turn is taking. Strong wins after Pac missed what looked like a reverse Phoenix Splash, big boot -> Gibson driver.

Briscoes vs Doi & Shingo - ROH Tag Team titles
You know how the Briscoes have been really awesome the last year? Yeah. The DG guys brought it all the way too, and this was easily match of the weekend for me. Shingo in particular was great, and by the end the crowd was coming somewhere close to a 50/50 split between who to support. I don't remember the finish, I *think* Shingo pinned Mark.

Samoa Joe vs Nigel McGuinness
Good, good stuff. Unfortunately there were a bunch of drunken pricks around where I was sitting who decided to just chant the most random bullshit and almost ruined the match, ended up having to move away but it worked out as got a better seat for the end. Joe hit Nigel with a muscle buster onto the apron, and they did an injury angle as Nigel was being helped out. Joe repeatedly asked for a handshake before calling Nigel a pussy, which prompted him to return to the ring and slap Joe square in the face, after which he *almost* pulled off the Superman comeback, before passing out in the choke.

Night 2

Colt Cabana vs Delirious
Fantastic comedy match. Far too many things to list here, but if you can find a clip of Big Daddy on youtube or something you will have a vague idea of what Cabana's schtick was here. Delirious wins with a rollup.

Sara Del Ray & Allison Danger vs Jetta & 'Jezebel' Eden Black
Challenge match after Jetta and Black called out the SHIMMER girls the night before. Kinda ties in as Black will be wrestling on the next SHIMMER taping, so it works. Better heat than the singles match the night before, Jetta and Black wrestled as total heels. At one point Black had Danger in a triangle choke (her finish) but Del Ray made the save. Sara picks up the win with the butterfly choke into suplex on Jetta (I think)

BJ Whitmer vs Jimmy Jacobs - Falls Count Anywhere
Match started before the women had even left the ring, as they brawled through the back of the crowd. Solid pro-BJ support with a smattering of Jacobs fans. At one point Jimmy hit a sweet balcony dive. Whitmer got spiked 3 or 4 times and had a total crimson mask, bled all over the ring. Jimmy started rolling around in the blood, maniac that he now is. Whitmer hit a brainbuster on the ramp for the win.

Matt Sydal vs Pac
Nice little high flying match. Pac blew a spot or two but nothing horrible. Sydal's subtle heel schtick is coming along nicely, before long I think he will be something pretty special. Sydal wins with the SSP

Jay Briscoe vs Mark Briscoe
If you've seen a Briscoes match in the last year, you can guess what this was like. If you don't like their stuff, you'll hate this. If you like it, this will be right up your street. Head drops, high flying, spots galore. Match ended in a draw after neither man could answer the referee's 10 count.

Roderick Strong & Davey Richards vs Shingo & Doi - ROH Tag Team titles
The DG guys were *over*. Strong and Richards had some nice heat but to be honest it was almost all for Davey - he's doing really well in playing off the crowd. Strong is basically the same guy he was before he turned and he needs to do something to change up a little, IMO. In both his matches he did tease the chops a few times before doing an eyepoke or little stuff like that, but whereas Sydal is gradually turning and that sort of thing works for him, Strong is already meant to be full-blown heel.

Anyway, rant aside this was very good again, not as good as the Briscoes - DG match but still very good. Again Shingo stole the show for me, the crowd were waaaaaaaaay behind him in particular. Doi pins Davey after a top rope fireman's carry into faceplant (yes I know there's a name for it :p )

Nigel McGuinness vs Jimmy Rave - Fight Without Honor
I dunno if Jimmy is quite a main eventer yet, but he can take an asskicking. My God, did he take an asskicking. All I'm gonna say is, Tower of London onto a guardrail.

Nigel wins with the rebound lariat.

Samoa Joe vs Homicide
Julius Smokes is great. At one point Homicide wiped out 4-5 people in the front row with his tope con hilo because they weren't looking. Other than that, I'm not really gonna write much about this cause chances are if you're reading this, you'll want to see it for yourself. Good match, better than I expected (and I feared the worst)

So yeah, there you go. Great, great shows both. Liverpool (or at least, the area around the Olympia) is not the greatest, but it was worth the 5 hour coach ride and all the other crap, easily. Definite DVD purchases - seriously, I am the most jaded, cynical, thinks-he-knows-it-all bastards there is, and at LEAST 4 times over the weekend I was shocked/stunned/gobsmacked by what I saw.

What Would Kevin Do? 03-05-2007 05:23 PM

ROH is the best wrestling promotion in the world today, no doubt about it.

Naruki Doi and SHINGO winning the ROH World Tag Team Championship surprised the fuck out of me. If they have the potential to be good Champions, I think I'll live.

Fignuts 03-09-2007 01:29 AM

You know, some people shit on Shingo Takagi, but when I saw him at ROH against curry man, he was pretty darn good. And I'm sure he has progressed quite a bit since then.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-09-2007 02:38 AM

Shingo was the man at the weekend. Seriously, he was totally on point in everything he did.

I was sold on Shingo after I saw him put Roddy through a table. I really do like the guy a lot. Kinda surprised by him and Doi picking up the tag titles, but I like it.

Tickets are now on sale at ROHwrestling.com or by calling 215-781-2500. Lets get right to the huge news!!!

The "All Star" theme will give the show one of the most unique interpromotional matches in ROH history. A team of ROH all stars will face a team of Dragon Gate all stars in an eight man Dragon Gate Rules match. The ROH side will have Austin Aries, Delirious, Rocky Romero and oddly enough Claudio Castagnoli has been selected. The Dragon Gate side will consist of CIMA, Susumu Yokosuka, Dragon Kid and Ryo Saito. Do we really need to hype this one?

Also signed is a bout pitting two of the hardest kickers from Dragon Gate and ROH. It will be Davey Richards vs. Masaaki Mochizuki.

The final ROH vs. Dragon Gate match had already been announced as new ROH World Tag Team Champions Naruki Doi & Shingo will defend the belts against Jay & Mark Briscoe. These two teams stole the show in England and now they will try to do the same in Deroit.

As if all this isn't enough for you, one of the biggest singles matches in ROH has been signed for this event. Former partners will collide when Roderick Strong faces Jack Evans. ROH is pulling out all the stops for this all star worthy card!!!

We'll have more news in the upcoming weeks on all these matches.

Don't forget the legendary Bruno Sammartino will be at this event and he will be available for autographs and to meet the fans.

Keep checking the ROHwrestling.com Newswire as much more will be announced in the upcoming weeks for March 30th in Detroit with Colt Cabana, Christopher Daniels, Homicide, Nigel McGuinness, BJ Whitmer, Jimmy Jacobs with Lacey, Daizee Haze, Adam Pearce with Shane Hagadorn, Brent Albright, Chris Hero with Larry Sweeney, Matt Sydal and more!!! Does Strong still have that FIP title? I imagine he would be defending it against evans if he did.

Also, with all the heaping amounts of interpromotional work thats going on between ROH, Noah, and Dragongate, I have five words for you:

Spike has already confirmed that R was not a final send off, but an actual return, as the name implies, and they do plan on releasing more in the future.

Although I would expect KOC 3 first. Which I have no problem with tbh. If the next KOC has 6 and 8 man tags, a deathmatch, and more indy wrestlers, I don't know if I would ever go back to Fire Pro.

Fignuts 03-12-2007 01:00 AM

Also, is the PS3 region coded? There were rumors before it came out that it wasn't, and no modding would be nessecary to play imports.

Mr. Monday Morning 03-12-2007 08:32 AM

I have to admit for a while I was a little worried ROH had peaked at Glory by Honor V, but the whole 5th Year Festival really seems to have kicked everything into high gear again.

What Would Kevin Do? 03-13-2007 11:41 AM

The PS3 is NOT region coded for PS3 games. So you can play imported PS3 games... It just doesn't play import ps/ps2 games.

Jacobs Answers Whitmer's Steel Cage Challenge
Wednesday, March 14, 2007

Jimmy Jacobs has accepted BJ Whitmer's challenge for a Steel Cage Match in Detroit. The match will be at "Supercard Of Honor II" and the escape rule has been waived. These two hated enemies will be locked in the Steel Cage and weapons will be allowed. The match goes on until one man is pinned or submits. This one will be brutal and violent. Here is Jacobs' response to Whitmer's challenge and thoughts on this huge match:

"March 31, 2007 is my prom night. It's where everything comes to a head. In a moment of poetic justice, almost exactly one year to the date, in the same city, in the same building, in the same ring where you almost killed me, we'll be locked together inside a steel cage until one of us can't get out on their own volition. If for one moment you believe that challenging me to a steel cage match or the idea of such a violent match scares me, then you clearly underestimate me. For the past year, I've stood toe to toe with you, never backed down in the face of violence, blood and danger; and to your credit, you've never backed down either. You're fueled by a powerful emotion. You're fueled by hate. I see it in your words to me, the way you glare at me, the way you strike me, the very manner in which you perceive me. I'm fueled by that same hate for you. In a steel cage, without regard for dignity, reputation, self respect or safety, we will battle, we will bleed, we will fight in the name of that hate. But the difference between you and me is that I fight for something more. I fight for love. When the sun rises on the morning of April 1, it will be a new day. And in marring you, I unionize an unbreakable bond between Lacey and me. This is act 3, my friend. It always ends the same. The villain gets what's coming to him, and the hero gets the girl." - Jimmy Jacobs

Tickets are now on sale at www.ROHwrestling.com or by calling for this huge event. Here is how "Supercard Of Honor II" is shaping up on March 31st in Detroit:

Dragon Gate Rules Six Man Match Of The Year Rematch
CIMA, Shingo & Susumu Yokosuka vs. Dragon Kid, Ryo Saito & Masaaki Mochizuki

FIP World Heavyweight Title Match

Fifth Year Festival Rematch

Whats happened now?

ron the dial 03-31-2007 12:43 PM

The Briscoes won the tag titles (and apparently Mark botched an SSP to the outside and hurt himself), and the team of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley (MCMG) have challenged them for the titles on 4/28 in Chicago.

Impact! 03-31-2007 12:48 PM

Awesome :D

What Would Kevin Do? 03-31-2007 12:52 PM

That entire show was fucking intense.

I was in the second row right in front of Mark when he screwed up the SSP. It was fucking scary. The match basically stopped. Apparently he has a severe concussion. Amazingly enough though, he was arguing saying he could finish the match.

The Jack Vs Roderick match was insane. Some brutal stuff going on in that match. One of the most brutal things was Roderick, on the outside, doing a fall away slam to JAck into the ring post.

The 8 man tag was awesome and hella fun.

Seriously, every match was good, and the double main events were great. I can't wait for tonight.

Also, watching Jimmy Jacobs spear Daizee Haze, and Daizee's shoes flying off into the crowd was a fucking awesome sight.

ron the dial 03-31-2007 12:54 PM

Sounds like a good night. Wish I could have made it out like I had originally intended to.

And seeing Daizee's shoe fly off in Chicago was fucking crazy. Can't imagine both of them popping off. She's a hard ass, for sure.

RGWhat316 03-31-2007 02:36 PM

I admit that I haven't followed ROH too much, but I dedided to go to last nights show for the hell of it. And it was on hell of a show. I haven't officially decided, but I may go to the second show tonight as well.

I saw a bunch of crazy spots, and still continue to be impressed with Jack Evans. The guy can twist and turn in the air better than anyone else I've seen. And the Briscoe's incident was pretty scary looking. I was by the entrance, but he did it off the other side of the ring, so what I saw him do was run, jump straight to the top rope, and immediately attempt the SSP. I didnt the hit actually go down, but at the speed he was going, and with his head not all the way around, I could tell the way he was gonna land.

I may go tonight just to see the cage match, and the spots they would do with that.

Blitz 03-31-2007 03:23 PM

Wish I could've gone :(

WHY AM I JUST LEARNING OF THIS

RGWhat316 04-01-2007 01:42 AM

I did decide to go to the second show, and it was just as good as the first. We were right by the entrance again, and my one friend was saying shit to Daniels, and Daniels was giving it right back.

Match of the night to me was the Jacobs/Whitmer cage match. It was just nasty looking, they really tried to tear each other apart. Even at one point, they both had spikes and were nailing each other at the same time 10-15 times! Jacobs got the win which was kind of surprising, but he got no celebration with Lacey as BJ piledrove her.

Chris Hero brought out his special celebrity friend, Johnny Fairplay. And me and my buddy got one chant started, a "f him up Nigel" chant going to Fairplay.

One last interesting note, I saw Little Bastard or Hornswoggle talking to one of the workers near the entrance, but not in plain view.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-01-2007 01:53 AM

Great fucking card again. Apparently Jimmy lost two teeth :(

Second row again. The cage match was intense, the 6 man was insane, Aries Vs Strong was good too. Overall, the card was damn good.

Evans and Doi also did a bad ass spot where Doi had Richards in a fireman's carry, and Evans hit a double stomp off the top rope and moonsaulted over the ropes to Romero on the outside. Pretty slick really.

Since there is so much speculation about Mark Briscoe's injury I figured I'd post this before I get to writing a newswire later. Here is everything from my perspective for what were some very scary moments.

Before I get to my story the update now is that Mark suffered a concussion and he will be ok. Right now he is questionable for 4/13 & 14, but he will definitely be good to go for the end of the month in St. Paul and Chicago.

First a little background. Mark has been sick basically since the UK trip. He was even in the hospital for a few days due to strep throat. So he was entering the match a little weaker than usual. He went for the SSP and didn't rotate all the way around. I was watching the match on the moniter in the back, which gets the hard cam feed. I jumped up as soon as I saw it and headed straight for ringside. I can't tell you what an awful feeling it is making that run to ringside not knowing what you are going to find.

I get there and Mark is laying on his back with a small puddle of blood around his head. His eyes are glazed over. Mark said his tongue and fingers were tingling. We had some medics there so Cary and I immediately ran to them in the back of the building.

When I got back to ringside Mark was able to move everything. I asked him where he was and he said "Chicago." He asked me what he did and I told him a SSP. He then said he could get back in the match. BJ Whitmer was down at ringside at this point and told him to stay there due to the head injury. Mark then asked me again what happened and what's going on. I told him again he did a SSP and the match is going on. He told me again he was ready to get back in the ring. I asked him if he remembered anything for the rest of the match and he said no. The medics got to him and while they were putting a neck brack on and getting him on a stretcher Mark kept insisting he could get back in the ring. While they were getting ready to take Mark out, Jay won the tag titles so I told him. He was in good spirits and relaxed.

Mark was given a catscan and tests and everything came up as good as possible. They kept him in the hospital just to be safe and for observation. I didn't get an update today, but he is with family now and they will drive him home when he's ready to go.

So basically the end result of this really scary accident is that Mark has a concussion and has to take it easy for a couple of weeks. We'll have updates in the newswire on if he can do 4/13 & 4/14 and his current status. Don't worry, he won't rush back and he will return only if he's 100% cleared and ready.

Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin is official for 4/28 in Chicago.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-02-2007 01:17 AM

FUCK!!!

Jimmy Jacobs completely tore his ACL, needs surgery, and will be out 6-9 months :(

blake639raw 04-02-2007 01:51 AM

Man, tough break for Jacobs. Right after the biggest win of his career. Well, hopefully he keeps a chance to keep developing his character on the shows at least, and get over that way. Also, Mark Briscoe is a badass son of a bitch, and will eat your children if he wants to.

Mr. Nerfect 04-02-2007 02:13 AM

Some rich tycoon who enjoys Ring of Honor needs to get them a PPV deal. I would order this shit in a second.

The Briscoe Brothers have been winning me over like shit. I can't see them as a WWE tag team without some kind of shitty make-over, but in the independant scene, they are Tag Team Gods. With Motor City Machine Guns stepping up to face them, I expect some goodness.

Brent Albright is a fucking beast. A feud with Homicide will kick ass, for sure.

I love the deal with Dragon Gate. Some of the shit they put on is fucking outstanding. I know Destor hates him, but Jack Evans can do some amazing shit. A double stomp to a guy in a fireman's carry straight into a moonsault to the floor? That shit is fucking crazy.

I really wish Ring of Honor reached a wider audience.

Mr. Monday Morning 04-02-2007 06:39 AM

Thing is though if they went to PPV they'd first have to go to TV. And I'm pretty sure as things stand, they feel they're making enough money (actually turning a profit, which is rare) that the hassle of having to put together a TV show (and the cost) would outweigh the benefits.

I can see how it would be very difficult for someone new to get into it though, as most things happen through a run of shows. Unless you're just willing to wait for a sale every few months and play catchup it can get expensive.

Jack has improved a lot since he went over to DG. He'd still cause some people to have movez~ or spotz~ heart attacks but he's a better spot monkey than most.

I've already bought my tickets.

It's my belief now, that anyone who goes to an ROH show will be a fan. People say ROH is overhyped, but they honestly do put on the consistantly best shows of any wrestling company in the world right now.

Nah, the other shirt was white and black, with a bit of a different design.

The Fugitive 04-07-2007 03:35 AM

Right, so I'm looking at the ROH store and I've got a quick question.

There's a 15-20% off sale right now. Does ROH have an once a year sale where they have a higher discount rate or is that the best they offer?

Mr. Monday Morning 04-07-2007 05:31 AM

They have a sale pretty much every other week, it depends what you are looking for. Sometimes they'll have bigger sales on specific stuff, like shoot interviews. Sometimes they have sales specifically on older stuff.

But more to the point, about 2-3 times a year they have a 25% off everything sale. If you really want to hold on for that then do so, but they do 20% off, or buy 3 get 1 free, fairly often.

Mr. Nerfect 04-07-2007 06:24 AM

That was cool of the guys to take photos with you. CIMA and Naruki Doi are just visiting, but they still take time to chill with the fans.

And ROH is not overhyper. Some of the matches aren't my cup of tea (they aren't bad, but I do think that sometimes guys go for about an hour or so, when they really don't need to), but they have more sports than either WWE or TNA, and they arguably have more entertainment, too.

Mr. JL 04-07-2007 06:38 AM

CIMA and Naruki Doi are awesome. I just recieved the 'Better Than Our Best' DVD and their match with Aries and Strong was off the charts. Just phenomenal. Also, the Storm-Danielson match from this show was brilliant too.

I haven't been following RoH for a while now, but I'm going to try to pick up some more DVD's and catch up on things.

Thanks for that. I was looking at getting a shirt for a show that's happening here in June, but then one shirt turned into 5 shirts, which then turned into that plus a cap, a hoodie and about 10 DVDs. :$

Knowing about that, I'll try and cut down my order to a reasonable amount and get some of the other stuff another time. Thanks again.

Honestly, up until they crippled themselves at the Detroit shows, Jimmy Loves Lacey and everyone involved in that angle was the best thing going I can think of in wrestling. Seriously. The whole thing has built over a freakin' YEAR and hasn't felt forced at all. Fantastic job by Gabe.

I'd recommend these 5 shows.

Main Event Spectacles
Manhattan Mayhem (at the time, considered by most fans to be their best show)
Death Before Dishonor 3 (Punk's title win; awesome prematch angle)
Glory By Honor V, Night 2 (Danielson/KENTA, Nigel/Marufuji, Briscoes/Joe & Homicide, Aries & Strong/Kings of Wrestling)
Final Battle 2006

Having never seen an ROH show in my life, I decided to check out this 30% off deal. I just ordered Round Robin Challenge III, Second Anniversary Show, and The Last Stand on VHS for $13.25, shipping included. I figure, get the stuff that's on sale, that way if I don't like it, I'm not out much. But three shows for less than the price of one WWE DVD is awesome.

Innovator 04-21-2007 01:27 PM

1) What are your feelings going into your final ROH weekend?

Colt Cabana: I've got all kinds of crazy feelings and emotions. I know I'm very excited. I'm excited to wrestle in front of the best and most appreciate wrestling crowd for one last time. I'm also a combination of nervous, scared, happy, constipated and sweaty all in that order. I'm really not sure if I'm looking forward or dreading this upcoming ROH Midwest weekend. I guess I'll just have to take it all in when we get there.

2) Lets look back at your career in ROH, what are some of your favorite matches that you've been involved in?

Cabana: I've had so many great and fond ROH memories. I'll be happy to list off some personal fave's. Maybe these are some of yours too. Of course, my first matches with CM Punk at the Murphy Rec Center and then top that off with when Punk and I became Tag Team Champions in front of our hometown against the Briscoe Brothers. I also have a soft spot in my heart for the time when Bobby Heenan managed me against Jim Cornette for everyone's first time. Wrestling Austin Aries in a cage, my catch-wrestling series with Nigel McGuiness, and standing victorious over Homicide after a brutal fight without honor. Other personal favorites include wrestling the greatest wrestler of our generation, Bryan Danielson, and having fun with my wrestling in singles matches with guys like Kikutaro, Spanky and Jack Evans.

3) What are some of your favorite moments that you were involved with in ROH?

Cabana: I know I wasn't involved in it, but I was in a way. That was being able to watch Samoa Joe wrestle Kenta Kobashi live from the top of the New Yorker. I don't think I'll ever forget watching that match sitting next to James Gibson and being so emotionally invested in it. Having fun with my talk show, "Good Times, Great Memories" was also just a pure blast. When Dusty Rhodes came on "my show", it was pretty surreal to sit there and have Ace goof on Dusty only for him to walk in and cut a promo on my hairline.

4) What do you want your legacy to be in ROH?

Cabana: I just want everyone to remember me as the meanest, toughest, hard-hittingest, stiffest prick in the business. People will tell their kids that they once ran into Colt Cabana at a bar and he beat up their son. "Colt once bent a keg in half", they'll say to their friends. That's how I'd like my legacy to be in ROH....PLEEEEEEASE.

5) What would you like to say to the fans that have watched you in ROH since 2002?

Thanks. Thanks for supporting me. Thanks for supporting ROH. Continue to support me. Continue to support ROH. Have fun enjoying pro wrestling and please don't take what you have in a company like this for granted because just imagine what you'd do if ROH wasn't around...think about it. How much would that suck?

Mr. Nerfect 04-22-2007 02:09 AM

I'm actually hoping they give Takeshi Morishima quite a long run with the ROH World Title. The guy seems like a pretty credible Champion, if you ask me.

His next scheduled title defense is against Austin Aries. Morishima should go over there, and following that could be a rematch with Homicide. Doug Williams defeated Morishima in a tag team match recently, so they could give him a title shot based on that. Just keep Morishima rolling.

Mr. Monday Morning 04-22-2007 04:54 AM

Shingo is up next after Aries. I know a lot of people don't like him but for me Shingo has been great the last 2 months.

The intial list of NOAH names for the first show in Japan has been released - Morishima, KENTA, Marafuji, Shiosaki and RICKY MARVIN will all be there. Which is awesome.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-22-2007 12:44 PM

Ah, yes, I forgot about Shingo. He is indeed awesome.

I'd love to see The Briscoe Brothers defend the ROH World Tag Team Championship against KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji. That would be a sweet ass tag team match. For some reason, I also get excited at the prospect of a Ricky Marvin vs. Matt Sydal match.

Anyway, here are my predictions for what is confirmed for ROH this Friday in St. Paul:

The Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew will take on the team of The Dangerous Angels. The Wrecking Crew (Rain & Lacey) are the hometown girls, and SHIMMER and ROH appear to be increasing their association with SHIMMER. What better way to solidify that relationship than to have Allison Danger and Sara Del Ray lose their first match as a tag team in ROH? I think Rain & Lacey should get the win here.

BJ Whitmer will face Shingo in a "Special Challenge" on Friday. As he is heading into a ROH World Title match the next night, I think Shingo should get a little bit of momentum. This will be a hard-hitting affair, but Shingo should ultimately go over.

Colt Cabana will team with Homicide to take on Brent Albright and Adam Pearce. I love Albright, but I just don't see his team taking it. Cabana has lost every match on his farewell tour, he should get at least one win. Pearce will get to go over Cabana the next night in Chicago. I expect to see Homicide get the pin on Adam Pearce.

In the Four Corner Survival, Rocky Romero and Erick Stevens should cancel each other out. That leaves either Jack Evans or Delirious for the win. Evans seems to be picking up lots of little victories here and there, but I think Delirious will take it. Evans already has the push to create his own faction to war with the No Remorse Corps and The Resilience. Let's get Delirious in there. You also can't go wrong with putting your Survival Of The Fittest Tournament Winner over.

The Ultimate Endurance Match will be a proving ground for all the challengers. The Briscoes retain, but hopefully it won't be the end of Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw.

Roderick Strong will hopefully retain the FIP World Heavyweight Championship against Christopher Daniels. They've only ever had Homicide and Bryan Danielson as former Champs, I don't see why FIP would want to pollute that by adding a TNA guy to the list. Hopefully Strong defends the belt on the Japan tour, and gets it a little more notoriety. I want to see Erick Stevens bring in the FIP Florida Heritage Championship, as well. At least momentarily. The Briscoe Brothers could also at least wear their FIP Tag Team Championships. With some defences of the FIP Tag Titles in Japan, they could become seen as belts worth holding.

There is a little part of me that would mark out for sticking it to the man, and putting Austin Aries over Takeshi Morishima, showing Aries where his home is. The SuperStarr has always been better in ROH than in TNA, in my opinion. Putting the ROH World Title on the leader of The Resilience will also make them credible. Then they just bring in the FIP Florita Heritage Championship for some defences, and The Resilience is actually looking pretty good. Not bad for a stable lacking credibility. There is a lot of attention in Japan because of Morishima's possession of the belt, so that is probably a good thing for ROH. Morishima will in all likelihood retain here, and that's the way it should be.

Now for my Chicago thoughts:

Man, The Resilience have been taking a fucking beating. Austin Aries should beat Rocky Romero, as he is the leader of the group. Plus he will need to save face after losing to Morshima the night before.

It's kind of cool that Christopher Daniels is facing the FIP World Heavyweight Champion one night, and then the FIP Florida Heritage Champion the next. They should have Stevens put his belt on the line here, and successfully defend it.

Roderick Strong doesn't seem to be defending his FIP World Heavyweight Title against Jack Evans. Boo! Make the match for the Title, and have Davey Richards and Rocky Romero help Strong retain, which is eventually what pushes Evans over the edge into creating his own faction to battle in this developing war.

Mike Quackenbush, Gran Akuma, Jigsaw and Hallowicked will get another chance to prove themselves in a Six Man Mayhem Match. I doubt either will get the win, nor do I think Pelle Primeau will get it, so that leaves Delirious. Once again, you can't go wrong with putting over your Survival Of The Fittest Tournament Winner. Mike Quackenbush winning to establish notice isn't beyond the realm of possibility, though.

Homicide, BJ Whitmer and Brent Albright will clash in a three-way match. I'm going to rule out Homicide as a winner, as he goes over the previous night. It's either going to be Whitmer or Albright, methinks. Seeing as Whitmer loses more often than Albright, and because Albright only loses in a tag team match the previous night, Whitmer should take it here.

The Briscoe Brothers vs. The Motor City Machine Guns will be awesome. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley won't likely win the belts, but they apparently work splendidly as a team. After this defence, and Ultimate Endurance, I honestly believe that The Briscoes will have qualified for a successful World Tag Title reign. I think they could lose the Championship the next night, and it wouldn't be a big issue. It's good to see ROH giving the tag team division some love.

Adam Pearce is getting quite the rub going over Colt Cabana. Good on him. :y:

Shingo will make a fun challenger to Takeshi Morishima. I don't think Shingo is yet established to take the ROH World Championship. This will be a good showcase for him, though.

Innovator 04-24-2007 11:43 AM

Cabana will go on last in Chicago

I don't know why but I didn't really enjoy their match in September all that much. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but I've seen so many really good Briscoes matches in the last year or so it doesn't really stack up. For whatever reason when they're in there with KENTA it just doesn't seem to click.

I am right there on Marvin vs Sydal though. Off the top of my head I can't think of anyone who's come along more than Sydal in the last 6 months, and Marvin is 31 flavors of awesome. Sign me up for that one.

No argument here, although tbh Sara is the only one who has consistently impressed me. Lacey can be a bit hit or miss, Allison is all over the shop and IMO overrated, and I've never really seen anything from Rain (though I have heard good things)

I don't really like Whitmer, to be honest. BUT, I do appreciate the fact that he seems to have realised what he can do well (take ridiculous beatings) and is working at just being the best he can be at doing that. I don't like the idea of these two matching up, truthfully, but yeah I can see Shingo getting the duke to get the 'rub' from the ROH resident tough guy.

Quote:

Colt Cabana will team with Homicide to take on Brent Albright and Adam Pearce. I love Albright, but I just don't see his team taking it. Dunno, I can't see Pearce needing to go over Colt to be honest, he's fine in the little niche he's carved for himself. But, I can't see Cabana winning here either. Who knows, maybe more Cornette shenanigans?

Quote:

Sound reasoning. I could maybe see Stevens getting the win as he needs something to establish himself (Aries is basically leading a couple of ROH n00bs right now) but Delirious shows his usefulness here, as he can realistically win or lose a bunch of different matches and not be hurt at all.

Quote:

The Ultimate Endurance Match will be a proving ground for all the challengers. The Briscoes retain, but hopefully it won't be the end of Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw.

Not sure of the logic here and I don't really like Daniels all that much. I think he's playing heel now too, so this could be a real mess.

Now that he's been suspended AGAIN, I can't see him going back to TNA to be honest. He'll put up a cagey fight but there's no way he beats Mori.

Quote:

Now for my Chicago thoughts:

Man, The Resilience have been taking a fucking beating. Austin Aries should beat Rocky Romero, as he is the leader of the group. Plus he will need to save face after losing to Morshima the night before.
I can see this being some sort of schmozz. Not sure if Davey and Matt Cross are booked but it could easily turn into a tag, which I'd then assume means Aries over Davey.

Quote:

It's kind of cool that Christopher Daniels is facing the FIP World Heavyweight Champion one night, and then the FIP Florida Heritage Champion the next. They should have Stevens put his belt on the line here, and successfully defend it.
Don't really know enough about Stevens at this point, but again I don't really have high hopes.

I need to see the FIP Evans vs Strong match Gabe always raves about. It's probably not half as good as he makes it sound, but I can see how it might work. Roddy apparently brutalised Jack last time around, and it could easily happen again.

6 Mans are never easy to call. Jigsaw will probably win just for the hell of it.

Whitmer's kinda stuck with nothing to do now Jimmy's gone and torn his ACL (for love) so I'm not sure exactly what they're planning with him, but 'cide and Albright definitely have a thing going, so I can see 'cide picking up the win but paying for it afterwards.

Quote:

I honestly don't see the big deal about Sabin, but I love me some Alex Shelley. And from the little I've seen of them they work extremely well together, so hopefully this will come together and be a beauty.

It would be the perfect opportunity to bring in Icarus so they can add Team fist to their tag team roster. What they could do is have Fist join either Hero's stable or the no remorse corp as their tag team. Then I could see this also as incoherence joining Jack Evans stable. The Fugitive 08-04-2007 09:55 AM

As much as I hate bumping old threads, I didn't really want to create a new thread for the couple of things I had on my mind.

1) Looking at the ROH website, I noticed that the ROH Wrestling School is back in action. What shocked me is the new head trainer - Delirious. Now, if you don't know already, I LOVE the lizard-man, but considering the roster has Danielson, McGuinness and Aries, is he really the best choice for a head trainer?

2) I didn't see a thread on it, so I was just wondering what people's thoughts were on Rave's departure from ROH.

What Would Kevin Do? 08-04-2007 01:40 PM

Rave leaving came as a surprise, but I can't say I'm REALLY upset. THere are people I like far more on the roster ( Jimmy jacobs for one) who have better characters and come across better.

I just wonder if he got pissed with his injuries. Say what you will, but when you get your jaw broken by a lariet, and the other guy gets pushed to the moon while you sit out injured, it could cause some sore feelings. Your opponent IS suppose to protect you, not hit you so hard he breaks your jaw.

Mr. Monday Morning 08-04-2007 02:04 PM

I think he ruptured his eardrum very recently also. Just not been having a good time of it.

Shame, really. When he and Shelley were together in the Embassy I really, really feel they should've won the tag titles from Aries & Strong. They could've been monstrously over as heel champs for a LONG time. They did kinda try to reboot him slightly after the split what with feuding with Nigel but honestly I don't think there's very much left for him to do. I guess they could've tried a face turn but there's a high chance it could've bombed.

BTW Murder City Machine Guns vs Briscoes at Good Times Great Memories is fucking fantastic,
