This isn't the first time that's been true though.

Within the last couple years or so, the booking swerves you're supposed to find awesome you see coming a mile away, and the guys you want to have the belt jerk the curtain.

Jeritron 12-14-2008 11:59 PM

Lets be fair here. Just because some of us think Cena sucks doesn't mean him winning the rumble was shitting on the rumble. In fact, it was far more shocking and fresh (exciting) than previous years where the winner was labeled from a mile away and followed a clear path to the win. At best, it was between two guys (one from each brand).
Even though Cena sucks, at least it was a swerve. Taker winning again would have been pointless.

Yeah, this doesn't pay up for Punk's reign, McMahon Death Angle 2, Cena's assed up surprise Rumble win, or the continuing employment of Mark Henry.

You call yourself a wrestling fan, remembering things that happened more then 6 months ago.

I just hated there was two back to back #30 winners.

Lux 12-15-2008 12:05 AM

McMahon death angle 2 was hilarious espeically after the failed limo one but that was beniot's fault.

Jeritron 12-15-2008 12:06 AM

I may be in the minority, but I thought the limo angle could have been cool. It certainly started off good.

Lux 12-15-2008 12:08 AM

It was gonna go far but sadly had to be cut short.

Somebody just turning up out of the blue and winning it though, dispassionate of it being Cena, doesn't do it justice for me. There have been a few in recent years that weren't terribly obvious. Taker's definitely wasn't, He Who Must Not Be Named was one of several possibilities but definitely not a foregone conclusion, and Batista wasn't really the only choice that year either. It would have been less obnoxious to me if he had come out in the 10-15 range instead of dead last. When he showed up last his win was a foregone conclusion. Showing up earlier wouldn't have been much less of a giveaway, mind, but it would have helped.

Incidentally, it isnt just Cena's win that constitutes defication here, it's also pissing away the title shot a month later at a lower-tier PPV that was the BIG insult.

You're right, they'll probably just put the Hardy Boy symbol in there.

Gotta agree with you there, that was crap. Cena showing up out of nowhere to win it, then using his WM title shot at No Way Out??? Even though the triple threat at Mania was good, logically Cena shouldn't have even been in it. He used is shot at NWO and didn't win the title. His own stupidity should have kept him out of the WM title match.

Lux 12-15-2008 12:34 AM

And we see why you are all employed by World Wrestling Entertainment.

RGWhat316 12-15-2008 02:15 AM

Hey man, we all were. And fired 30 seconds later, lol.

Lux 12-15-2008 02:18 AM

With the direction of WWE I'm sure in two years the creative staff will all post on tpww.net :shifty:

DaVe 12-15-2008 04:17 AM

Wow.

I completely forgot the PPV was today... and now I'm pretty angry about it. So I checked the 'highlights' package of the main event on WWE.com and JR's commentary was outstanding.

Londoner 12-15-2008 06:21 AM

I'm glad i stopped watching after the HBK segment.

Disturbed316 12-15-2008 11:48 AM

anyone got a video of the hardy win?

ClockShot 12-15-2008 12:19 PM

I don't know which was worse. Hardy winning, or Orton losing.

Gonna be interesting to see what goes down on RAW tonight.

I get the part about Orton losing...

Not a fan of Hardy?

RGWhat316 12-15-2008 01:54 PM

Yeah I hate that Orton and Jericho both jobbed cleanly.

RGWhat316 12-15-2008 02:03 PM

BTW, has anyone heard from Shadow yet? Is he even alive right now?

Lux 12-15-2008 02:29 PM

Shadow was in Casual early this morning around 2am, he seems to be breathing, I can't tell though.

I don't mind Hardy. I just don't get throwing the belt on Edge and having him drop it to Jeff a few weeks after. :?:

Jeritron 12-15-2008 06:20 PM

Probably has to do with HHH. Either they didn't want to job him, HHH didn't want to job (which I actually see as the least likely believe it or not), or they're saving the Hardy over HHH job for a later date i.e Mania. I see the latter as the most likely, but who knows.

It's called a transitional champion.

Jeritron 12-15-2008 07:38 PM

One of my biggest pet peeves of brand extension is when a new champion or big event occurs in the world of Smackdown, and it isn't the lead off of Raw.
I know this is because of the seperate brands, but Raw traditionally captializes off of buzz like this before brand extension and was always great because it adressed the topic while it was hot.
In a better time, todays buzz would be culminated with Jeff Hardy kicking off Raw, and maybe even a big answer to the hotel attack.
Thing would go places while they were still fresh in peoples minds.

Instead, we watch a show by the same promotion that has nothing to do with the PPV's defining moment, and the buzz is lost.
It's practically an afterthought by the time friday rolls around.

Blue Demon 12-15-2008 07:58 PM

Is it just me, or was the crowd dead for that?
