So? Some of the interview questions are just naturally harder than others, despite however much evidence you can pile up to use to accuse someone of lying about something. I almost always (not all the time) have a hard time deciding between Truth/Doubt/Lie.

mhirn3 05-28-2011 03:49 PM

Like it so far, only played for an hour or so.....but seems pretty good overall. Visually stunning

I just want to point out, that here we are 1 week later and I have completed the game. Owning the game and spending a whopping $2.09 compared to your >$45. Now, I will be sending it to RoXer1, where he will also have the game for a whopping $2.09, compared to your >$45. Also got MK for a whopping $2.09 compared to your >$45.

Ending spoiler I GUESS

SPOILER: show
I also want to say that the ending is total bullshit. Towards the end I felt the same way I did at the end of Red Dead Redemption. Did not want to play as someone else, but at least he wasn't as annoying as Jack Marston. Hate so much that we won't be playing as Cole in LA2. Maybe there will be a zombie expansion coming out with more Phelps cases :-\

Ending stats:
14 hours
4XP away from level 15
All cases 5 stars except for 4 cases
All 13 newspapers found

Evil Vito 05-29-2011 11:20 AM

I'm not sure I got any 5 star cases so far. I'm usually in the 3-4 range since I suck at questioning.

Just wrapped up Vice.
SPOILER: show
Knew Earle would fuck you over the second I met him. Just seemed like way too big of a cocksucker not too

Disturbed316 05-29-2011 02:19 PM

Working though Arson at the moment, pretty horrific stuff.

G 05-29-2011 03:40 PM

Went through and 5 starred those few cases I missed. Can't believe it didn't count towards my rank. How am I suppose to hit 20 if you only get one run through story.

I've never been grossed out by a game until the second arson case I believe it was.

Disturbed316 05-29-2011 05:22 PM

Yeah, that one was just horrible to see.

Backtrack in free roam. Find all the cars, complete all street crime cases, get all the landmarks, etc.

Cuzziebro 05-30-2011 08:35 AM

Anyone else notice a guy that looked and sounded a lot like John Cena? It was in one of the war visions where they were marching down the road complaining about something.....

ClockShot 05-30-2011 03:19 PM

Just wrapped this up.

SPOILER: show
I'm with G. Didn't like the ending. I was expecting everybody to get rounded up and sent to the slammer. Cole goes back to homicide or whatever and Kelso really starts his new gig as the D.A's right hand man. Instead Cole gets washed away and Earle is giving the eulogy. I liked the final flashback at the end of the credits.

Now if Sony gets the Store up tomorrow, I'll be happy.

They announced a few days ago that May 31st isn't happening. ETA is now in June :foc:

Just counted and I now have 6 DLC codes sitting on my desk. Most of which are for games I have already traded out. Double :foc:

Well whoopdie fucking do I'm happy for you.

Drakul 05-31-2011 11:19 AM

DLC for the game is out. You can buy them all seperately or as an 800MSP package.
There is also a free DLC gun called the Chicago Piano. It's a tommy gun and you get it by going to the trunk of your police car during a fire fight and pressing A.
It seems really powerful. Kills enemies instantly, regardless of where you hit them, it seems.

#BROKEN Hasney 05-31-2011 12:11 PM

The 800MSP pack also includes all future DLC.

Buzzkill 05-31-2011 02:26 PM

Yeah wasn't huge on the ending either really.

SPOILER: show
I felt it was just way too overdramatic. They didn't do a good enough job of fleshing out Phelps' character to make it that impactful. I appreciate what they tried to do but he literally had no character development until about half way through the game, and even then it wasn't much to go on.

Absolutely loved the rest of the game though. Way more satisfying than GTAIV imo and more engaging than RDR.

100% this last night. Car hunting is a bitch.

Drakul 06-01-2011 03:18 PM

Yahtzee just ruined the final sequence of the game for me in this weeks Zero Punctuation and on his Twitter page.
It wasn't even for any real reason. He just ends the episode by basically saying "Btw, the game ends with X happening".

Anyone that wants to play the game unspoiled should avoid both those things until they're done.

Drakul 06-03-2011 03:25 AM

Finished the game late last night. Yahtzee didn't spoil it as much as I had thought.

As for the ending:
SPOILER: show
The ending was weakened by the fact we didn't get to play as Phelps for the last couple of cases. Because of that, we had a little distance from him and, when he was killed, it didn't hit as much as it could have had I been playing as him the whole time.

It also doesn't help that we didn't get to see his body so I couldn't be sure he was dead. I was half expecting it to turn out that he wasn't dead at all and the funeral was just a formal thing like when someone is lost at sea and presumed dead.

It was interesting and believable that the "bad guys" seem to have gotten away with it and that the good guy died.

I'm thinking the last DLC will be Kelso hunting down the "bad guys" and ending with him arresting/killing the crooked vice cop, though.

Kalyx triaD 06-03-2011 03:30 AM

Watched my bro play this for a while. Impressive game.

I was curious to see what was so gross about that case after reading these posts. Was a little let down when I saw what was supposed to be gross and didn't find it at all horrific or gross.

Maybe there is something wrong with me...

D Mac 06-03-2011 05:05 AM

Don't really care about the DLC suits. I'll probably just download the cases I don't have right now, and will probably be done with this completely and trade it in before the July 17th DLC case comes out.

Evil Vito 06-04-2011 01:53 PM

Finished the game.

SPOILER: show
Gotta echo the statements of everyone else. Wasn't too fond of the ending. If we could have at least killed Earle I could have lived with it.

Still have a ton of cars and landmarks to find, but I don't care so much about that. I DO want to replay though to see if I can collect all of the papers. I only found like 10 or 11 of them and I have no idea where I missed.

Drakul 06-04-2011 05:00 PM

No need to play through the whole game again. Go to the case selection from the main menu. Each case with a paper to find has a paper symbol next to it. Just play those cases and keep and eye out for each paper.

Verbose Minch 06-04-2011 09:26 PM

The only part I agree with you guys on in regards to the ending is that:

SPOILER: show
You should have played as Phelps more towards the end, albeit it does make sense that you don't given he was taken off the case. If anything they should have at least let you play as him for the tunnel segment at the end.

I actually felt pretty sad when Phelps died, even more so after seeing Roy giving his eulogy or whatever. idk, video game protagonist deaths shake me up, Marston and Phelps both.

Anyways, who was your guys favorite partner? I loved Rusty, and hated Biggs until he
SPOILER: show
ran out of the house, disgusted, when they were treating the burned people as evidence in case 2 of Arson. I felt it gave him a lot more character to have him react like that, on top of never firing his weapon and formerly being in a war. Definitely was expecting him to give the eulogy.

No need for me to finish Red Dead Redemption now, I guess.

RoXer 06-05-2011 03:29 AM

I liked the ending

Evil Vito 06-05-2011 01:21 PM

Rusty was easily the best partner. The fact that you're with him the longest doesn't hurt either.

Biggs' character development was nice but it's still only a short while that you're with him. Earle was a huge douche so it was hard to like him. And Bekowski you barely spend any time with.

Verbose Minch 06-05-2011 06:01 PM

Also was anyone else disappointed with

SPOILER: show
the ending of the homicide case. ''Haha, it was the temp bartender all along!'' just seemed really lame and anti climactic. Especially given that you don't get a commendation for it or anything.

RoXer 06-05-2011 08:36 PM

Visually, this game is amazing. I don't think anyone would say otherwise. There are a few pop-in moments and the draw distance isn't as big as I thought it would be but whatever, it's still "visually stunning".

Nothing innovative though as far as gameplay was concerned. It felt like I could be playing the same game on an old apple computer with 8-bit graphics and just have two frames of someone with shifty eyes if they're lying or something. And a giant 8-bit "thing" to walk over as a clue. And hell, selectable text where the choices pop up in 8-bit windows would have been an improvement over the shoot-in-the-dark truth/doubt/lie system where you never know what you're going to get or even how you're going to respond.

I dunno. It felt like a pig in make-up. Beautifully done, technology advancing, historically accurate, make-up though.

SPOILER: show
FUCKING KNEW IT WAS HIM when the other bartender just casually goes "Oh yeah, and that temp bartender was there too."

Actually, I thought I threw him in jail already because I thought he was the guy working at the produce stand. :o

D Mac 06-05-2011 10:34 PM

Beat it. Found all the papers. Guess if there's a sequel it will revolve either around Kelso or a different story alltogether.

D Mac 06-05-2011 10:35 PM

You have to sit through all the credits at the end and can't skip them that's pretty annoying.

Honestly, I didn't even remember him like five minutes after meeting him. I had no idea who it was, so I was expecting somebody a little more prominent. I don't know who it would have been, but it just seemed like such a random thing.

An honest mistake, don't worry about it. Sort of predicted that would be the outcome of RDR before it even launched. Actually, thought that would be the outcome of GTAIV when I first played it.

If it's any condolence, it's definitely still worth it to finish it.

Drakul 06-06-2011 04:40 AM

Yeah, I'll still want to get through it. I already had some other details given away for me before this so I'm wondering how much I dopn't already know.

I'll need to finish it to move on to Undead Nightmare anyway.
